I had a pork tamale because they were out of the three sisters (bummer!), veggie taco, and salsa and chips....everything was amazing! Wish I worked at the village because I would come here for lunch regularly! They have a customer loyalty program too if you're a local. I had Spanglish for a work luncheon and really enjoyed everything I tasted. I will definitely be in to check out the shop and taste more of their menu items. This time I had one of their tamales and a beef taco. We also had their chips/guacamole and salsa verde. Everything was very tasty. I loved all the toppings that came on top of the taco - fresh peppers, cheese, etc. It was loaded up so much that one taco was enough for a lunch portion. The spices used on the meat are unique - not your everyday taco. You could tell the tortillas are fresh as well (we were told these are made on location and packaged to buy and take home - another reason to stop in). The tamales was wonderful and only enhanced by the salsa verde, which is mild, but very flavorful with chunks of avocado in it. Yum. I've had some bland, terrible guacamole in my life, but Spanglish does it right. Like I said, I'll definitely be stopping in for more. read more

Good food! I was sad they were out of vegan tamales by the time I arrived ( near 3pm, they close at 6pm for the day). I was really looking forward to trying them based on friends' reviews. I did however; get the vegan rice and bean plate which was topped with a fantastic fresh pico and came with 3 corn tortillas. More than enough for two people, really! Four stars for only one reason...they were out of the tamale that I saw on the menu with the butternut squash. I was super pumped to try it...and then my dreams were crushed with a little sign indicating they were out. Settled on the other vegetarian tamale and was not disappointed. I also had the tostadas which were fantastic. My husband had the chicken tacos and was stuffed. Portions were "hearty" for sure. This is a cute spot for lunch! We came here for lunch during the week. FYI, get there before noon to beat the lunch crowd. You basically go to the counter to order first then pick a table. The restaurant is cozy. This is my kind of Latin restaurant since they focus on a few key dishes that are made well. My husband and I ordered the same thing: one carnitas taco, one barbacoa taco, and one carnitas tamale. We also started with chips & salsa which were light, crispy, and flavorful. I LOVED the barbacoa taco, very flavorful! The carnitas one was good too, but I preferred the barbacoa. I appreciate that they make their tacos street style: 2 corn tortillas with cabbage, salsa, and cheese. The tamale was ok. I come from a Mexican family that makes their own so I am picky. I prefer my tamales a little more spicier. You also have to pay for extra salsa or spicy salsa. I'm used to hot suace on the tables. Despite these shortcomings, I would definitely go again for barbacoa tacos and Mexican sodas or horchata. read more

For the price for lunch I was not impressed. Our lunch costed $43.99. The beef burritio had more rice and beans as filler and very little meat. I have eaten at many other Mexican restaurants for dinner and paid less than I paid for lunch. A friend recommended this place and I'm so glad he did. First of all when you walk in, it smells so so good you just want to order everything. The inside is sort of small and cramped, but we had a dog so we sat outside. The cashier was so nice and friendly. I got the Chicken Big Daddy Burrito. We came in for lunch and it was so so filling I couldn't even finish it. It even lasted me for the rest of the day! Great price and great food. Authentic Mexican food with an artisan touch. I mean really authentic. This place is a hidden gem but everyone knows about it. Nice quaint small shop. We took our orders to Earthen Ales and ate it because the place was packed. And Earthen Ales recommended doing so. They invited us to bring food in and highly recommended this place. The staff from all of the surrounding businesses all eat there. The food was large in quantity and I can't even begin to describe the quality and flavor. Thought and purpose really wen into this menu. Locals say you must visit this place and I wholeheartedly agree. If you come to TC and do not visit Spanglish you are robbing yourself of an experience. We were looking for some fresh Mexican food. We are from California and are used to very fresh Mexican food. It started out well here. Good shop. Nice atmosphere. Good selection of sodas. We had burritos and a quesadilla for my 5 year old. The chips and salsa verde were good. Liked the chunks of avocado in it. I got a pork burrito and my husband got a beef one. Sadly. It was not as good as I thought it would be. For some reason they mix the rice with the retried beans and it's a mushy mess. No spice. No flavor. Bland. The meat was good but bland. These tacos are worth the wait. This meal was easily the best I had in the week of checking out the upper-lower peninsula. There's a wine and cider tasting place next door that offered excellent adult beverages to go with my tacos. And if that's not your style, there's a nice park across the street. My boyfriend and I are visiting Traverse City for a couple of days and returned to Spanglish after a trip last winter. We did carry out this time and that went well. My boyfriend ordered tacos and chips with salsa verde which looked delicious. Unfortunately, there was no flavor or heat in either. I had a veggie burrito which was HUGE and had lots of peppers, onions and cabbage. I too would have liked more heat but the flavor was good. BTW, we aren't hot freaks!! Cutest little restaurant, LOVE the Brick & River Stone walls, bright colors and cool stringed Flags :) The music is on-theme, upbeat, fun, and not too loud! And FINALLY, Authentic chickens taco in Northern MI! Very Moist & lightly seasoned meat, not too salty, but not bland at all! The toppings are ON POINT! (Hooray for Cabbage, Cilantro, Onions, & Mexican Cheese!) Salsa Verde is very Lime-y, tangy and delicious. It only took 2 Tacos and the Chips & Salsa to full me up! This restaurant is located in the old potato peeling building of the asylum. Church pews as shared seating.This restaurant is small quaint and fun! My husband loved the chicken quesadilla and I had the Big Daddy burrito of which I could only finish half of it. The chips and salsa we also good. I would recommend this restaurant. It's not fancy but prices and were good. The man walking out when we came in had the biggest smile on his face as he recommended the big daddy! He looked like he won the lotto. The place was small and hoppin', but that did not stop the people who work here from striking up a conversation and being all-around friendly 2. Not one but two different options for vegetarian tamales (who does that?) I'm sure the menu is accommodating no matter what diet you are grooving to, but the fact that they had several veg/vegan options was a definite plus. They pile on the meat and all the other taco fixin's. You must have the chips with green salsa, it's the best green salsa I've had. The atmosphere is cute and cozy.
