Service was very quick and staff were very pleasant. I ordered the vegetarian nachos. Chips were fantastic but I should have added a protein. Veggies not well seasoned at all. I haven't been back here in a few years bc I really didn't enjoy the burrito when this place first opened up. However, this time around was night and day better. The hostess/food runner was super kind and friendly and walked us through the menu without even asking, which I appreciated! I don't love the order at the counter situation but food didn't take long. The chips are SO SO good! The quesadilla with pork was also really good, just wish I got a sauce to go with it. The corn salsa on the side was good but spicy. We loved this place!! We stopped by for lunch on Friday. The atmosphere was great and the service was even better. We ordered chips and guacamole, as well as a plantain to get started. Both were fantastic! The plantain was super unique, but perfect perfectly cooked. I loved the pineapple salsa that came with the plantain. For entrées, we ordered chicken Tinga tacos, as well as the daily fish taco special. Everything was delicious but the fish tacos were the winner! Visited a "new to us" restaurant this week. Kind of a mid-western take on Mexican food. A brewery as well, of course, with two TVs... one for motocross and the other for the Red Bull channel. I hadn't realized this place is owned bu locals but a nice homage to one owner's Mexican heritage is the name and cuisine. The folks are really friendly and food/bev very good. I had a flight of beers including Mex and American style lagers, Märzen, and an amber. My favorite beer style is the Oktoberfest Märzen, but I was surprisingly impressed with the Mexican lager. It was much better than any others I have tried. This one was a bit more malty than others, not the 'let's throw lemon in it and call it Mexican' type I've had elsewhere. The food was excellent as well. We both got enchiladas, 1 pork with verde sauce and 1 chicken mole. Not many places in the midwest do mole - they even asked me if I knew what it was when I ordered - I guess they've had some people not happy with a chocolate-based sauce. That said, this mole was a bit heavy on the chocolate, and a bit sweeter than others I've had. But I really liked this creative take on the dish. The restaurant is a big room with the brew tanks about half floor below the main floor, and nice spacious bar on the right as you walk in. Near the front, there are 2 nooks with what looked like 2 x 4 people seating. I assume it was quieter in there, but we didn't have noise issues because it was late on a Tuesday. Clean and modern feel and a creative mural on the wall opposite the bar. We will definitely go again! read more

I am giving 3.5 stars. The food here is hit or miss but overall, we liked the vibe and the building/location. The burritos have fried potatoes in them and we didn't care for those at all. In another life I used to frequent alllllll the breweries. Though they're really not my jam anymore, my spouse and I wound up at Loco Boys because of the positive things we heard about their Mexican food. As we waited on the spacious patio, I saw the most beautiful raspberry sour on a neighboring table. I was intrigued yet concerned it might be too sweet for my liking. My curiosity got the best of me, and I ended up ordering a flight, which included that raspberry sour. I am so glad I tried it. It was the perfect amount of sour and not at all sweet. Actually, all the beers--lavender blonde, raspberry sour, golden stout, and hazy IPA--were all top notch. I almost converted back to full-time beer drinking ;-) The food needs a shout-out as well. Loco Boys incorporates local produce into their dishes, which is so wise given that TC is an agricultural hub. Their asparagus special and vegetarian burrito were sublime. Kick things up a notch and make sure you throw on some homemade hot sauce. A small request to Loco Boys: can you puh-lease consider a vegetarian taco for the menu? Short rib enchiladas were phenomenal! Absolutely loved them. Price was a little steep at $22 I thought, but still glad we gave them a try. The ambiance of this place was very unique. Brewery #270 We came here after getting lunch across the street at Slabtown Burgers for a flight of beers. Loco Boys has a nice outdoor patio and spacious indoor area. Their beer menu was also quite large and I wanted to get a second flight but we were in a time crunch. In my flight I got a Dirt Over the Shoulder(Golden Stout), Ay Papi Chulo (Mexican Lager), Vintage Value (American IPA) and a NIEBLA (Hazy IPA). All of them were really good but the Hazy and Golden Stout were my favorites. The people were extremely friendly like genuinely happy that you were there. My only regret is being full before coming in so I wasn't able to try out their food. read more

This was our last stop on our most recent visit to Traverse City. We ran into it quite by accident. And a pity too because had we known about it sooner we probably would've visited more often. The menu looked really delicious and I love the open kitchen concept so you can see everything as it's being made. We weren't terribly hungry so we just got a basket of chips and salsa and it was wonderful chips were crunchy and perfectly salted and you have several choices of salsa in varying degrees of heat. No one greeted us on a Friday night when we passed the outdoor sitting area to take a seat inside for drinks. Several signs indicated that you could order drinks or food via QR code or at the bar. You can also pay via the Toast app. The only table service was a server bringing your flight. They were out of their flagship beer, so I had a 4 sample flight of average craft beers. Lot parking. Me and my family went back to Loco Boys recently after first coming a few years ago and let me tell you, it was better the second time. We were really lucky to go on a beautiful day right before sunset so the outdoor seating was lovely. They have a nice array of beer which are necessary to pair with the flavorful burritos and tacos. I got the veggie burrito which was very good but could've used a wider variety of vegetables in its filling but that's really splitting hairs because it was great and I'd definitely order again. The only major critique I have for Loco Boys was that the side of "Beans and Rice" was lackluster. This may have been a misinterpretation on my part but when we got the beans and rice we were expecting a pile of beans and a pile of rice. In reality, the side is a bowl of beans with a few grains of rice sprinkled in it. It was very tasty but not what we were expecting. Overall, a great summer spot! read more

The food is greasy. It's unsettling because every item is overly greased; the chicken, the chips, the pork. All of it is greasy and it leaves you with this weird pit in your gut. Great queso, like great soup, is a sign of a great restaurant. Loco Boys queso is probably the worst I've ever had! When they first opened, it was a white queso and so tasty, but that's been replaced by the globby throw up colored 'queso' they're now serving. At no point should queso look like throw up. Loco Boys queso looks like straight up throw up, which makes me wonder?? Is anyone actually checking the food they're putting out? Probably not; this place is totally self serve. There's really no contact with a human unless you sit at the bar. QR code ordering, a random kid delivers your food and no one really checks in to see if things are going as planned. And when someone does ask, they're not really interested in the answer, ahem bartender gal. The chocolate cream puff was delightful. The bartender wasn't familiar with the cream puff, which also cracks me up because seriously, know your products. Come here for the kombucha, red wine from bobobo, maybe a cider or beer, but truly the food is not really Mexican and it's greasy enough to clog your arteries in one sitting. But know that while you're spending your hard earned cash on sub par food, no one actually cares. read more

I wouldn't expect awesome Mexican food in northern Michigan after traveling up north for four decades, but am so happy we found Loco Boys. Both of the appetizers were good with homemade fried chips. The main course I thought was just okay. The mole sauce was a little too sweet for my taste and the chicken inside the enchiladas without it was a little dry. The barbacoa burrito was good however and so were the barbacoa tacos. The food was fabulous. It is all made in the kitchen from scratch. We began with the fried ripe plantains, pineapple salsa, spiced pepitas and citrus chimichurri. Absolutely delicious. Chicken Ting with pineapple salsa and Enchiladas de mole poblano was served with a side of stewed beans and rice. Plates were cleaned. I'm not the beer drinker; however, the men gave two thumbs up on those they had. The servers and bar staff were a lot of fun. We laughed and shared stories. The shells for the tacos were not fried, there was no salsa with the tacos so we asked for some and they charge $2.75 for a teeny bowl. Really? After, we checked the menu online and it stated that choice of salsa came with tacos. ??? No taco salad. The margarita was good. Toooooo loud as they have high ceiling with no noise buffers.
