But I was waiting for 30 mins for my burger and I asked an Employee named Brenton where it is, and he said "they are probably looking for you downstairs" but he said he could get them to bring it up top. Another 10 mins goes by and he comes past the table so I asked again and he said "you got pushed to the back of the line" so I said our burgers were supposed to be ready 30 mins ago and his exact response was "well I guess someone got here 29 mins ago". The burger tasted like it was a walmart patty but ok the cheese on it was good.the fried cheese was good but the parkway grill in Wichitafalls is a lot better! I just got back from Spank's to pick up a call-in order. None of the employees had masks above their noses, Cooks in the kitchen weren't wearing masks at all. Certainly, patrons eating at tables had theirs off, but the employees seemed to share in a lackadaisical attitude toward their health and safety practices, which have to be attributed to management or lack of it. I was willing to overlook the situation as I waited outside for my order to be completed. Unfortunately, when I went back in, the instances I saw were so egregious that I had to finally make the call to leave and call back for a refund. The management did contact me with an apology. I do acknowledge that. I wish them the best in correcting the issues I observed. Shame. read more

The atmosphere is "casual campus burger joint", with hints that this is a venerable TTU institution. The food is not incredibly memorable. Spanky's does have great burgers, sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. The shakes are great too and the frozen drinks. The fries have been bad ever since they switched them many, many years ago. Prices are a little high in my opinion. Staff tends to act a bit clueless every time I go in there but I still do because they have good food. I'm skeptical of the owner as well... But once again, delicious food. My favorites are the monte cristo, grilled turkey Swiss, grilled ham & cheese, chipotle chicken.... every entree is good. Recommended place by some of the local people here. My experience was pretty standard. The place is very clean and well kept. Bathrooms are clean and updated. The food was fresh and well cooked. I had the hotter than hell burger and it definitely lived up to it's name. I also had a half order of fried mushrooms, they were fresh appeared to be hand breaded and not frozen. Nice change from most places. The service was actually good. The only down side to my visit was no draft beer and a small selection of bottled beer. Love the food and the staff typically... this time we had a young man named Jared take our order and he was very disrespectful, used a very condescending tone with my daughter and I and then proceeded to touch my daughter's butt when he walked past. We went at lunch time on a Thursday and it was pretty busy but we were able to grab a table as it was being wiped off. The first impression of the place was that it was kind of dirty. You order at the counter and instead of giving you a number to place on your table they give you a dog name which is super cute. The food came out relatively quick and both of our burgers were huge and delicious, we could have easily shared one. The fries seemed to be handcut and fresh. This is a must stop in Lubbock. Every time I go visit my son at Tech we have to go to Spanky's. Their hamburgers are huge, hot and awesome. They have some really great choices. Lots of meat, cheese and bacon. Buns are always soft and fresh. Fries are old school cut and fried well, crispy and seasoned nicely. The chicken sandwich is one of the best anywhere. But I go for one reason only, the fried cheese. It is to die for. Huge logs of fresh mozzarella, lightly battered and deep fried to golden perfection. The are not heavy at all. It was apparent our experience at Spanky's was going to be under par when we asked the waitress if they would bring our food upstairs and she replied "No, they won't, but they should figure it out eventually." Needless to say the Green Chile Swiss Chicken Sandwich came before our fried pickles and fried cheese (which eventually came to us cold). The sandwich was prepared without the "Swiss" in its name and with condiments that were specifically to be left off. We could hear comments from other tables around us about the various food they were missing or about how the food received was prepared wrong. Everyone told us to go to Spanky's so we dropped by on the way out of town. The food was fine but the fried pickles were too salty to eat. I asked the cashier as she walked by if they're supposed to be that salty and she just agreed "yes they're salty". She looked at our full plate of fried pickles and didn't offer any type of apology, refund or anything. That wasn't my intent but it would have been a nice customer service goodwill gesture (since we had spent $60). Employees should be trained to take customer service initiative or get the manager. She's from Florida so I'm like lets go eat at Spanky's everyone always talks about it and their fried cheese, because they appeared on the Food Network . Wife ordered a well done cheese burger and it comes out solid pink in the middle. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and it tasted like they poured a whole salt shaker in it. The BLT consisted of 3 slices of bacon, 2 pieces of lettuce and a tomato slice that had drowned in the excessive mayonnaise on the toasted white bread.
