Sometimes the Memory Is Better Left Alone: A Disappointing Return to Sparky's Roadhouse I remembered Sparky's Roadhouse as a place of great burgers, familiar surroundings, and happy family memories. When I finally returned to the Eureka Springs restaurant after many years away, I expected to rediscover that same experience. Instead, the visit quickly showed me how far the Sparky's of today seemed to have fallen from the one I had cherished. After many years away, my wife and I recently had the opportunity to return to Sparky's. I was genuinely excited about it. I remembered the restaurant as a fun, casual Eureka Springs favorite with great burgers, a unique atmosphere, and the kind of personality that made you look forward to coming back. Unfortunately, the Sparky's I visited this time bore very little resemblance to the restaurant I remembered. The disappointment started with the menu. The selection seemed diminished from what I remembered, and what was once an easy decision because so many things sounded good became a struggle to find something that interested me. I ultimately went with a burger, thinking that at least I could revisit one of the things I remembered and loved most about Sparky's. That nostalgia disappeared when the burger arrived. The burger seemed surprisingly small compared with what I remembered from years ago. More importantly, it simply wasn't very good. I would describe it as mediocre at best. It wasn't necessarily the worst burger I've ever had, but that almost made the experience more disappointing. This was Sparky's, a place where I remembered the burgers being something worth talking about. What I received this time was forgettable and nothing like the burgers that had helped make the restaurant a favorite of mine and my family years ago. The service unfortunately did nothing to improve the experience. On this visit, I found it inattentive and frustrating to the point that I would describe it as dismissive at best. A restaurant can sometimes overcome an average meal through friendly, attentive service and genuine hospitality. That wasn't my experience here. Even more concerning to me was the condition of the restaurant itself. During our visit, the seating and countertops appeared dirty, and there were numerous flies throughout the interior dining area. The overall environment simply did not give me the impression of the cleanliness and attention to detail I expect from a restaurant. One of the food items also did not taste right to me, which, combined with what I was observing around the dining area, made it difficult to enjoy the meal. I recognize that restaurants change. Menus evolve, ownership and employees may change, costs increase, and the restaurant industry has faced challenges that didn't exist years ago. I also understand that a single visit represents a snapshot in time and may not reflect every customer's experience or every day of operation. But that doesn't change the disappointment of this particular visit. I returned to Sparky's hoping to reconnect with a place tied to some of my family's happiest memories. Instead, the meal, service, and condition of the restaurant made it clear that the Sparky's I remembered exists only in the past. Nostalgia had preserved it perfectly, but returning replaced that warm memory with disappointment. For that reason, I won't be returning... not because the past meant nothing, but because it meant too much to risk revisiting it again. Very popular place. You can sit inside or the inclosed patio area. most like the patio with music playing. Food is ok. We just ordered a specialty bbq burger for $21 and shared with fries and onion rings. Other items I think are better. It's a drinking place and gets busy. For us it's been hit or miss on food. This is a nice little diner with outside seating located just outside of downtown Eureka Springs. Waitstaff was friendly and service was great. Food was your expected diner fare with a few specials. Because of the nightmare of paid parking in downtown, this place is worth the drive. read more

Great roadhouse diner! Hostess was friendly and informative; detailing the daily specials and answering Q's about other dishes. Our waitress was also attentive and personable. The entrees are updated versions of American diner staples, very tasty, and the portions are generous. My Baxter Burger had BBQ sauce, bacon, and cheese - on a huge beef patty. I loved it! Stopped by with a group of six. The appetizers of chips and guacamole, chips and salsa, and chips and queso were all amazing. We scraped the bowls clean. Most of our table for the Roadhouse cheeseburger or the Rocking Deluxe cheeseburger. They were cooked to perfection and delicious. The fries that come with fresh cut fries. It's definitely a family friendly place, I love that they allow dogs and they do have two patios, which is awesome. We have currently been sitting here for almost an hour and a half and haven't been served any food what so ever. Our waiter seemingly didn't even know our table was his and never took our order. We had to track down a separate waitress to order all our food. There are almost 20 people in the lobby waiting while every table around us is empty. The service is completely unacceptable. I stopped in to Sparky's to meet some clients. The chips and queso was delicious! The chips were perfect! Not too thick but not too thin. I ordered the Diablo burger. It was deliciously topped with Sparky's spicy salsa, grilled onions and Monterrey Jack cheese. It comes with a generous portion of French fries, or you may sub a salad if you like. Our server was attentive and always refilling our glasses and refreshing our chips. Sparky's has indoor seating as well as an enclosed patio area. 2.5 out of 5.. really disappointed this establishment had gone way down hill since we were last here. We had cheese fries and an appetizer and they were so soggy, mediocre at best. My husband had the chicken strips which were ok but he said the ones at the Eureka Grill downtown were way better. I had the sparkys burger and it was cooked to the right temperature.. that's all. No flavor at all. I upgraded to have onion rings as a side for 3.50 and got like 6. The soda was also way too surupy. The service was ok he didn't really pay attention to us on a basically empty patio. The hostess however was amazing we were on the patio which was a good temp for late April. Great food and big portions! Recently I have been to several restaurants that had the same prices as sparky's. But at these other places the food was crap, the menu was small and the portions were smaller than a fairy's meal. However HERE the prices were still more than I would normal spend but my whole family could've shared my one meal. I wish I had a cooler in my car so I could take my leftovers. My best friend and I stopped at Sparky's on our way out of Eureka Springs. It was a delicious pit stop and I will definitely come back here next time I'm in town. Prices are about average of what you would expect at a place like this, but the serving size way bigger than I expected, so I feel like there is a good value for what you order. I ordered a small cheese fry plate, and I still ended up taking a to go box. And let me tell you, I don't have small appetite so that's saying something. We were able to be seated right away, and our waitress was very friendly. I loved the aesthetic of the place, and it went with the spunky vibe that Eureka Springs has. My soda was cold and fizzy, and our waitress kept it filled up. The cafe had a very comfortable atmosphere, and my friend and I had a good time talking about our day as we dined on our food. Ok... photo fail but it's been 10 years since I have been here last and it hasn't change that much... like in a good way. Servers were great, beer and booze selection is great! Food... oh my first of you have to try their bbq sauce. On anything... got the bbq bacon burger and it was great! A friend nabbed the nachos and it could have fed an army. I think our friend who got the fish tacos was licking the plate. Either way worth a stop by and I do say save space for desert... or just take it to go. Thanks to Sparky's, I just had the best onion rings I've ever had! Stopped here for some to go food and was not disappointed. I had their cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese and it was so flavorful (the bun wasn't great but the burger was so good I didn't care). Subbed my fries for the onion rings and I'm SO glad I did. Flavorful, crispy perfection! Also had an order of the garlic cheese fries but those were just ok. Take my word for it - get the burger that sounds good to you and some onion rings. I had the hot turkey and swiss, subbing out a bun for rye bread. Hubs had the Wally burger. Both of these come with fries or a dinner salad; we both got salad since we had the cheese fries for an app. Salad was perfect side salad size. Wally burger on ciabatta bread as huge! We took a party of 6 to Sparky's last night. The service was excellent, BUT the food was just okay at best. My "HOT " ham and cheese sandwich was cold, and none of the rest of the party was raving about their meal. We have been going to Sparky's almost since it opened. In addition we have sent hundreds of people there when we had our Bed & Breakfast. But the meals last night were just too much. For a bill and tip of nearly $190 I expect better to come read more

This time I went in and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, and fries; it was literally the worst meal I've ever had!!! Our server was great and that's the only reason for a star. The grilled chicken was dry, firm, and rubbery! The fries were bland, soggy, and greasy! The waitress too my meal off the ticket, and apologized saying they had hired young inexperienced cooks. Sparky's has a little bit of everything on their menu. I really appreciate that they will substitute a veggie burger for any of their gourmet and specialty burgers. The food is nothing special and service is even worse. We've started going down the list of all the restaurants in the Eureka Springs area to find the best of the best. This place has made it to the "do not return to" list easily. For starters: The parking lot sucks. Being seated and greeted was a turn off. The waiter took an extended amount of time to come to the table.....and finally returned with a "room temp" draft beer... The food is overpriced for what you get.......oh, and be starving when you go there......bring snacks if so.....because the wait could leave you wondering if you should venture to another establishment down the street. After the extended stay at the table with the warm beer.....the food finally arrived....and what a disappointment.
