Horrendous packaging of artwork by Sparrow Print-N-Ship, Summerville, SC, a n agent packing and shipping on behalf of UPS and FedEx

RUN AWAY!!! Horrific packaging, customer service and lying. If I could leave MINUS 5 stars I would. See included photos. If you value any article you are having Jennifer Spangler, the owner of Sparrow Print-N-Ship pack and ship, go elsewhere. We purchased a painting from a Summerville seller. Based on the website, the seller took the painting to Sparrow-Print-N-Ship for packing and shipping quotes to Canada and 2 US locations. The seller requested the art to be packaged well. Since we were not present during the discussions between the parties, we can only provide the facts known to us. Jennifer says she was given approximate dimensions and quoted Fedex Ground shipping rates for 3 locations. The seller provided exact dimensions and requested packaging and shipping quotations. Based on the quotes, we opted to ship to Canada for $369.34 including packaging. If Jennifer is knowledgeable in packing art as described, she would have provided a quote taking into account added dimensions for packaging. Jennifer and the seller called to inform that the painting after packaging was too large to ship Ground. That was odd since we have previously used Fedex and UPS to ship similar sized paintings. Jennifer requested $190.00 for the packaging alone. We found that exorbitant, but paid. We requested the package dimensions and found them in excess of permitted Ground shipping dimensions. We explained this to Jennifer and the seller. Jennifer should have known that since that is her business. We requested Jennifer to repackage the painting to fit within the guidelines for Ground shipping. Jennifer called us and stated in writing that she repackaged to 48"x48"x8". We thought this was still larger than required, but since it was within guidelines, requested her to ship. Next we received the excuse that her system "would not allow her" to create the shipping label and requested we create the shipping label ourselves. Hmmm. Strange. We could not create the Fedex label from Canada, which we explained to Jennifer but she was still unwilling to assist. We were able to create the shipping label via UPS for an amount of $717.68, double her original quote not including the $190.00 already paid for packaging. For Fedex and UPS even if dimensions are slightly larger, for example 48.2", the dimension is rounded to the nearest higher inch, so 49" in this case. We used the dimensions provided in writing by Jennifer, trusting her honesty. We asked Jennifer why she could not create the shipping label as we both used the same UPS system. She lied and said it was "internal company policy". At the time we did not realize that Jennifer is the CFO/manager/owner of Sparrow. We were shocked to receive a UPS adjustment bill for $1,768.67. A UPS audit measured 52"x51"x10". Not just a rounding difference, but a massive difference, implying Jennifer had not repackaged as promised. We emailed her asking about the adjusted bill. She again confirmed the dimensions as 48"x48"x8" and told us to contact UPS. We requested that she contact UPS to explain the discrepancy in her measurements to support having the adjustment reversed. She shirked responsibility, explaining we created the shipping label and it was not her responsibility. She under quoted packing and shipping and made excuses to avoid creating the shipping label, knowing the package was oversized and would incur penalties she would be. responsible for. After receiving the painting, we measured the package. UPS were correct and Jennifer lied. The packing looked like Jennifer had been taking lessons from a kindergarten class on how to pack art. UPS and Fedex sell art boxes. She should have purchased appropriate packing material as recommended by UPS and Fedex. It is possible to purchase a mirror box for shipping. The packaging received was a plethora of patched together pieces of cardboard taped together and wrapped in a large loose sheet of brown paper. She used bubble and foam wrap with a 6" gap between the painting and top of the box with no filler. No professional packing. No response yet from Jennifer.

The UPS store located on Old Trolley is staffed by a wonderful and fast group of employees, focused…read moreon the customer and their needs. Moreover, it's extremely easy to get in and out of in terms of the store and when parking with main street access. Sometimes parking can be a chore but that's an oddity during peak hours like lunch. As far as offerings, s they have a lot of products and services to fulfill your needs as well as emergency items like birthday cards or box tape. They have shipping boxes however I would suggest unless that's a one off, purchasing those types of items at other places to save in costs. Also, they cater to the online shipping community such as Amazon, Etsy or Ebay for example, giving you a separate line from others. Another fun aspect they utilize is bulk printing. An interesting note is that I have my own cookbook which is over 175 pages and I can email them the file (PDF) and they'll print (either one side or front & back) in either color or black and white along with other options like lamination and how to bind it. Forewarning though for my cookbook it averages about $40 per book which is a bit steep imo. I do utilize the UPS store over the post office as it's a huge time saver with a small but easily digestible price increase. When I lived in Texas, I did this exclusively however there's something wrong at this store which I'm going to follow up on. I had a letter sized envelope, the one with the metal tab on it, which I taped over to not be damaged in the machine. In Texas it cost roughly $5 with insurance. However, this store said it would be $42... for a legal sized paper envelope! I ended up going to the post office and it cost, with insurance $6. I'm of the belief that while I was extremely clear and what I needed was obvious the lady had no idea what she was doing. Overall, UPS is a good way to ship things quickly and without headache. However, some of their services might be a little bit of a markup and I think they made a mistake with me once as I stated. That said I've been to this store 5 times or so and had a small mix-up once which I declined to use their service. I'm confident in the future I'll have no such issues. Therefore, I highly suggest stopping by for any of your shipping needs as it's always a fast and friendly experience.

Avoid this branch at all costs. No joke. The last 3 times I have made the drive out there to return…read moresome Amazon packages their "system" has been down and could not do returns. And the staff is rude about it and shows no empathy. I don't think they are technically competent to fix it anyway. Basically each time they act like snotty teenagers. I could even hear them in the back laughing. I have given multiple chances and sorry to say this is the last chance for this UPS retailer.

She explains that with digital printers, signs are produced faster and with more consistent quality, decreasing the chance of a rerun. The new technology is more reliable and easy to use while cutting cost and expediting the turn around periods. I ordered warehouse signs from "Signs ASAP" to label designated areas. The signs were official ANSI / OSHA Signs which promote safety and identify hazards. The signs are BOLD and COLORFUL, Exactly what I needed. Ms. Meehan can design and install vinyl graphics for your auto, truck, trailer, boat, walls, floors, and storefront. Attached is a photo of a super cool truck wrap she created for a business called Canine Clips. I don't have any dogs but looking at her work makes me want to take my dogs to this truck for a quick snip. LOL! I have attached a few pictures of her signs & Banners so you can see the quality of her work for yourself. I highly recommend "Signs ASAP' for all of your sign needs.
