When I originally called the "scheduler" on the phone insisted he couldn't give me an estimate - Chris called me back IMMEDIATELY (didn't even finish a text to my husband about it) and gave me a very reasonable estimate. Scheduled online after getting a couple other (higher!) estimates, and didn't realize the time I picked was the beginning of a 2-hour window - so be sure to keep that in mind. First: I typically don't give bad reviews. If I'm unhappy with something, I chalk it up to experience and move on. But this was a costly mistake and I want to warn other potential customers. I completed Spartan's online form, including a description of my items: decking and a cut up tree stump. The max price for a 20 cubic yard pick up on their web site is $679. (I originally wanted to rent a 10 cubic yard dumpster from another company but there was a concern that it wouldn't fit in my driveway. Cost to deliver and haul away: $299). The site does say that for labor intensive items there is an extra charge. When they arrived and gave me a quote, I was told that because it was construction material, they could only fill their dump truck to the 4 cubic yard line and would charge the full $679. (4 cubic yard price on their site is about $260). I was also told that I was probably 1.25 loads - so they wouldn't be able to take 20% of it. I agreed thinking that I could find a way to remove the remainder. I didn't totally understand why they couldn't fill the truck but when it was time to pay, they had barely removed 30% of the materials. Ridiculous- so what was I supposed to do? Have them make 2 more trips @ $679 each? No! It was a really disappointing experience and I felt robbed. Update after reading the response: Wow. I did email Chris immediately after seeing his first response (not the one below). Although he didn't respond, he must have seen my email - because his original response said he didn't know which customer I was and now he knows that he sent his 'most experienced crew'. The girl that did the price quote and most of the loading was really young. Also, I really can't buy into the weight issue - they took maybe 1/3 of my pile in a dump truck and my nephew took 2 loads of similar size in his pick up truck. I'm pretty sure a dump truck has a much higher weight capacity than a pickup truck. read more

Excellent work. I selected Spartan based on yelp reviews and decided after a phone call to the company, to go with them for a pretty extensive job. I liked that my call was answered by Chris , the owner, and the prices were good compared to others. He also is the one, along with his able helper, who did the actual work. They did arrive within the planned window, calling about 30 minutes in advance, as promised. Mine was a tough job which required bringing heavy items down from an attic and clearing a long ignored porch. It was hot work, no a/c but they worked efficiently and even cheerfully. These guys truly deserve a 5 star rating. I had a 50 year old cast iron safe to get rid of. It was so heavy. Tyler and Brian did their best to get it on the truck by themselves. But they needed a 3rd man to help so they called Don. Don was on the scene within minutes. With one try between the 3 of them, the safe was on the truck. All 3 guys were very friendly and professional. I had to pay a tad extra than the minimum because of the sheer heaviness of the safe and the extra help needed. Do not use Spartan. They are deceptive in providing quotes for junk removal. I called to get a quote for removing a king size mattress,box spring and basic metal frame. I was quoted $99. When their employees arrived they gave me a estimate of $159, based on actually seeing the items to be removed. I fail to see how a king size mattress, box spring and basic metal frame can be differ. This company is fine for junk removal. Chris and his helper were polite and respectful. However WARNING - Do not use them to load a moving truck. I used them for both junk removal and the loading of a moving truck. They were unable to lift the dressers and had to take out the drawers. They put the drawers in without aligning them on their tracks so I had to fiddle around with the drawers for a while. They loaded the truck very poorly resulting in shifting when I drove the truck. I had items set aside that were not for moving and the owner did not communicate with his employee or he just forgot because he picked up one of these items which contained crystal goblets and threw it on the ground outside thinking it was junk. Needless to say all 5 goblets broke. I also just found out they lost the power cord to my TV. I now have to spend $15 to get another power cord. Lastly, they showed up 3 hours late because they needed to repair a tire on their truck. I understand in their line of business they are likely to mess up their tires but they said it would delay them 1 hour and it wound up being 3 hours. They did not call to let me know it was going to be later than 1 hour. I had to keep calling them. Needless to say this was very stressful. read more
