None have been as entertaining and exciting to watch as Savage Race located partially in the woods of a Skirmish course in the middle of eastern PA. There is a spectator fee ($15 online in advance, $25 day of), which I originally thought was lame the first time we were here about three years ago. That was until I saw we as non participants could actually run parallel to the actual course the entire 6 miles!! We are able to be right there in the action and watch so closely as our loved ones did their thing! It was awesome then and it just gets better after I got a feel for the land. If you're a down to get in a bit of a workout and get down and muddy, and probably a bit wet, this is a great race to attend! The kiddos who are actually free to watch love it too! Dress appropriately with hiking boots or sneaks and clothes you don't care that much about. We always bring a backpack with water or Gatorade, clean socks, a dry towel and flip flops. It takes roughly 1.5-2 hrs to finish. If you're not into experiencing Savage so closely, there are tables and chairs as well as some shaded areas near the final course, the Colosses, which is the best! The whole race is very well organized and is family friendly. They are very thorough with their waivers, so make sure everyone has their printed out and has their ID's ready. The area and crowds aren't super overwhelming as many of these races can be. I never worry about not being able to meet up with my entire party afterwards since we're all right there together pretty much the entire way. There's also a nice mix of natural elements and wooded areas too, which also sets this race apart from others. There's always an entertaining dj and a guy who gets everyone at the starting line pumped. The energy is infectious and everyone is super nice! This year they've added more food options such as 2 for $5 tacos to their usual burgers (beef and veggie), chicken fingers, fries and such, but we usually go to eat elsewhere afterward. Your bib price includes a cold beer post race. Parking is $10 for cars and $20 for trailers. Cash only. Just a heads up, you probably won't have reception. Unlike most races he's had to drag me to, this one we all enjoy as a family so much! Always an awesome, enjoyable day!!

We ran as a family, my 8 year old thought it was amazing, my 6 year old was not really into it, but is proud of her medal. The distance was perfect for the kids, obstacles were engaging, but not too difficult for the kids, and the kids were excited to be at Belleayre, in the summer time, because it is where they ski. My one real criticism is that there was no festival feel to the event. IMHO, a half an hours worth of stuff to do after the race (dancing, face painting, limbo, whatever) would have really improved the event over all. This one minor complaint aside, Your First Mud Run is definitely worth doing.

The Kenny Wallace Dirt Racing Experience has been best I've had to date. It was my first time on dirt. I chose the Sprint Car in the form of the World of Outlaws winged car. There were about 8 people in my session which I thought to be an appropriate class size. There were other car choices including Late Model, Modifieds, and something they call an L-Mod which is a smaller car with a powerful motorcycle engine. The day started out with registration and then the "chalk talk" where they went over safety, track procedures, and hints on how to get around the track. Then we put on our racing suits and helmets and had photos taken car side. A staff member buckled me in, familiarized me with the controls and switches and gave me additional instruction. We had ear phone pads stuffed in our helmets so we could take direction from the instructor/spotter. When on track, there was one other student so you didn't have to worry about traffic. Now what separates the Kenny Wallace Dirt Racing Experience from the rest, this was not the typical lead-follow racing class experience. I had total control over how fast or slow I wanted to go. I had the instructor in my ear to guide me. I went as fast as I felt comfortable. I did get sideways in the corners and it was manageable the way they had the cars set up. To me this was very exciting! When i was done, there was no wiping the smile off my face. If you have any inclination to experience what it is like to drive a race car on a real track, this is best program around that I've experienced. I highly recommend it!

They see our Groupon and we paid for 2 people but they wouldnt honor it. Noone is in the office so they couldn't confirm the reservation. Its disorganized amd just a mess. We've been here for 3 hours for a 2 minute experience for my husband. As a business owner, sometimes you just have to do the right thing. That isnt this business. I would never do this again amd sadly its taking away from my husband's Fathers Day experience and 3 hours plus the driving time to get here and back home, 5 hours in all.

Pretty well organized race. Good communication leading up to the race. Plenty of free parking by…read morethe start and end (essentially the same area). The checkin and finish area has all the porta potties. The start area for the half marathon is a few minutes walk from the check in area right next to some torpedo statue. Flat route, you get to see and envy some rich people homes as your run by their mansions, the streets are pretty well closed off by the local pd (many thanks!) Warning: no portapotties anywhere to be found on the route.. I've never encounter a race more than 10k without portapotties on the route AKA you see dudes peeing in bushes.. but us ladies don't have that luxury! But plenty of portapotties at the finish. So word to the wise if running this race... pee multiple times before you run especially if you're running the 1/2 marathon. Post race refreshments: watermelon, banana, soup, water and some weird flavored water My 2 star deductions are ... lack of potties and the sharing of one medal between 10k and half marathon. Yes 10k also has it's challenges but a half marathon is a little more than double the 10K distance. I think it only be fair to those who run it to have their own medal #justsaying
