Used to go here a couple of years ago when it was Ashley Harvest Moon for breakfast, been wanting to try Spazio for ages. I knew it was a local fine dining restaurant, but just making reservations was an interesting experience. (Call and leave a message, there's no open table. There's a form to fill out. What?" As soon a we arrived we realized a reservation wasn't necessary as we were the only guests there for 30 minutes or so. My wife and I ordered: Glass of Wine, Ravioli, a Roman Pizza, a side of green beans, and a desert of tiramisu. The food was quick as we were the only ones there for a while as other guests came in. But as other recent reviews indicate, the menu options are pretty small, but the pricing and ambiance doesn't meld. I expected more redesign of the dining area that was used by the former restaurant; but that wasn't the case. It was a bit small dining room. I'll go back for an appetizer or glass of wine due a gift, but the pricing is too high for the food and the portion size that you get. read more

My wife and I have been here twice now and both times the experience was great. The food was delicious (OK, the Alici pizza with the anchovies on it was pretty salty but removing the anchovies fixed that. Guess it was to be expected since anchovies are always salty), there's always a very nice ambiance, and the service is top notch! This place is on our "must go back to" list! read more

We booked an outdoor igloo for what was supposed to be a special night out with friends, and instead got a cold, confusing, overpriced dinner that honestly felt like a parody of a "premium experience." First -- the ordering rules were never explained. Four adults sat down and each ordered an entrée, only to be told that apparently we were only supposed to share one entrée and one pasta for the entire table. How exactly are four people -- especially with dietary restrictions -- supposed to eat that? It made no sense, and the confusion led to us ordering extra just so everyone could actually eat. The igloo itself was freezing. There was one tiny heater doing its best, but only the person sitting directly in front of it was comfortable (YAY ME!). The rest of our party spent the night cold and distracted instead of enjoying dinner. It would get a little warm and then a server would unzip the dang igloo and leave the flap open and we were back to freaking COLD. Food timing was chaotic -- two meals came out, and the other two arrived about 20 minutes later. One guest who is lactose intolerant was hungry while waiting and asked for more bread, only to be told no. That's not hospitality -- that's just frustrating. Like... you can't bring the cold hungry man some bread? I'll PAY for the tiny pieces of crust but good Lord, just poor hospitality. Then the bill arrived: about $437 when we expected closer to $330, largely because of the unclear ordering situation. They SHOULD have 1. explained the "deal" better 2. automatically taken something off of the bill due to the additional meals being 20 full minutes behind the other people at the table. 3. Brought bread when asked ffs. They did take one of the "additional" meals off, so to be fair... when pushed... they did fight back, make a bit of a scene and ultimately took some off the tab. It was never about the $$ by the way... but paying over $400 for a sub par meal in Holly Springs in a cold igloo will be a good story I suppose. And the biggest disappointment of all -- the food simply wasn't good. At all. For the price and the hype, the quality just wasn't there. The lasagna was bad. Risotto pretty good honestly but not great. We are easygoing people who go out often, tip well, and genuinely want to support local restaurants. But this felt disorganized, uncomfortable, and not worth the risk -- especially when we've since heard similar feedback from friends. It's a shame, because the concept could be fun with better communication, warmer setups, and much better food. Unfortunately, we won't be back. We left colder than when we arrived and not happy with the food at all. Just no... go elsewhere. read more

We had a fantastic evening here with friends. We started out splitting a roman Pizza and a charcuterie board. I got the lamb which was excellent. My wife tried a dish that was new to her that wasn't her favorite but I think that is because she isn't a huge truffle fan and didn't realize that was the dominant flavor. Our desserts were great, there was a fantastic wine list, and the service was good. It was fun to talk with the chef's wife about his background and it was obvious she is very proud of him. (as she should be). Lighting was great, and it made for a fantastic splurge. I want to say that with a bottle of wine, shared appetizers, shared desserts and entrees that we were at about $300 for four people. So it isn't a cheap dinner, but it was pretty fantastic. read more

Fabulous! I had the risotto, my husband had the lasagna, we shared the fungi (phenomenal!) and tiramisu (homemade every am) and it was the best meal we have had all year! The place is quiet and very nice. The staff is the best part. They are all Italian and the chef will speak to everyone. The main waiter is extremely informative, energetic and the happiest gentleman! The restaurant itself is very cozy and the service was excellent. I asked for Tito's, club and cranberry, was told they do not have club soda or cranberry! For an upscale restaurant I found that ridiculous! The menu was very limited. I had pork which was good, I asked the waitress if it was a big entree , she said it could be shareable so I did not get a side dish. I am a small woman and I left hungry , the prices are very high considering they do not give you sides Very disappointed with this restaurant. The most amazing food yet Iv been to Roma . And since the owner /chef is from Rome it is authentic Italian. Hand made pasta fresh and dough for pizza with 00 flour . Everything tasted exactly like Rome and my favorite treat is the Affrogato. And it's presented just like in Rome . I'm in love with this spot . read more

Had my first Valentine's Day date here, and the experience was spectacular. Candles and beautiful lighting surrounded the restaurant, and flowers acted as a wonderful garnish too!! The food itself was also incredible. I ordered the Roman pizza which had amazing crust, the perfect mix of crunchy and fluffy. The Meatballs were also a must orders. My server, Barrett, was incredibly friendly and hospitable. This place is a hidden gem in the Triangle. The food is out of this world. The atmosphere is intimate and lovely and the service is top notch. The chef is a long time resident of Holly Springs, having moved here from Rome. His dishes are traditional Roman and all pastas are handmade. The menu is simple and the food is elegant. This is not Americanized Italian food so if you are looking for that, this is not your place. If you want a really special dining experience, you should check out this treasure. read more

The food here is absolutely spectacular!! You will not find anything better unless you go to Europe. Absolutely amazing! The owner's wife is so sweet and hospitable! The atmosphere is romantic and very inviting. A perfect date night spot. Relaxing and welcoming. My only complaint was our server. She never came to check on us. Never asked if I wanted another glass of wine... we had to flag down the owner's wife (who is an absolute sweetheart) to get us something. Heard great things about this place and unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype. We had the Pane (bread for $9 - not worth it), Cacio e Pepe and Carbonara. I tried my friend's Carbonara and it was fine but I thought it had a little too much pepper. Then, I took a bite of mine, and I know it literally is Cheese and Pepper, but the pepper was the most overwhelming amount I've ever had in any dish. If you love pepper, this is the dish for you. SPAZIO is now open in the space previously occupied by Ashley's Harvest Moon Bakery. My husband and I dined in for dinner and had a great experience. We started off with wine and an order of the pane e olio (homemade focaccia bread). For our entrees it was the lasagna for me and the agnello for my husband then it was the tiramisu for dessert. It was all amazing but if I had to pick a favorite it would be the agnello. The lamb was so tender. This spot is definitely worth checking out. read more

I wanted to like this place so much. Beautiful atmosphere. Quiet, intimate... This place was a ripe for a great evening. Some of the staff was great, others were a little awkward, but who isn't right? The drinks were so so. I wish I had ordered wine. My cocktail was super bitter, even though there were no bitter ingredients in it. Then I ordered the risotto with shrimp. What I got was what looked like a mushy bowl of grits with maybe 10 tiny little shrimp in it. The shrimp tasted like they could have been frozen and bought at a Walmart. It was actually one of the worst meals I've ever had, and it was $49! I wouldn't have paid five dollars for it. My husband got lasagna. Simple, he's not really a huge pasta person, but there weren't a lot of menu options. It was terrible. It was barely edible and none of the ingredients, except for the pasta, tasted seasoned or authentic in any way. We had Burrata and bread for the appetizer... I wouldn't go back for any of these items. I'm frustrated at this place had 4 1/2 stars considering the quality of the food we had. Maybe they started out great, but they sure aren't great now. Bummer. I just spent a mint on a rare dinner date with my husband, and the only thing we got out of it was mutual agreement that this place was a non-starter and a couple of laughs about how bad the food was. read more

The good - nice cozy atmosphere and food was tasty overall. The chefs wife circled tables to check in on people more than our waitress. Our waitress went mia - someone else served our food and after waiting for about 15min we hailed down another young lady to get our check. The gnocchi and lasagna were tasty and hot. However, for a small piece of lasagna $29 and small amount of gnocchi at $39 wasn't worth it. The bread was horrible - thin little pieces of focaccia that you pay an extra $9.00 for along with some little crackers in the basket. Overall food was very good, but likely won't be back. When I saw another Italian restaurant pop up in Holly Springs, I was in no rush to try it out. Most (all?) of the Italian spots in the area are of the "Americanized" cuisine variety - so it's easy to find and enjoy that, if that's what you're looking for. I missed out. This place has been open about 6 months, and I only just made my first visit. Ladies and gentlemen: if you've been to Rome, and you miss it, and you want to smell it, taste it, and hear it again - without traveling 5000 miles, this is it. Here's my experience: The two of us were greeted at the door by Vincenzo, a man of depth, stature, and rich with backstory - the gondoliere of our transition from a parking lot in Holly Springs directly into the heart of Roma. "Buon appetito!" he probably said, after we sat down at the finely adorned white-clothed table. The ambience is nice, but not pretentious. Not rustic, and yet - I did feel a connection to the old world. The music was perfect as well. It was not the cliché "italian restaurant" playlist on Spotify. Honestly, I couldn't tell you what it was - but I would bet it's exactly what you'd actually hear in a traditional Roman Hostaria. Pleasant, relaxing, easy. I couldn't think more highly about the staff. Everyone was lovely, but our waiter, Pietro, was our primary representative for the entire experience. Pietro, like the chef, is from Italy. What a gift it was, to hear Pietro describe the items on the menu, answer our questions, and offer insight to how Chef Paulo works, and why - on this particular day - the Spezzatino de Manzo (Roman style beef stew) was made with NY Strip Steak instead of the customary chuck roast, because his butcher had a particularly well marbled selection that Chef Paulo saw as an opportunity to take advantage of. And take advantage he did. And it was marvelous. Pietro led us through Pinsa Funghi as our appetizer, the Spezzatino de Manzo, the Risotto with black truffles on top, and finally two small desserts: an affogato, and a creme and berries dessert that was not on the menu, but again - something the Chef had prepared based on opportunity. A special note about the Pinsa: it is not pizza. The dough is not made of the same stuff pizza dough is made of. It's made of a specific blend of various flours, and the result is a light, airy, crispy here, chewy there, just-right crust that - once you've had it... look, just go look at my yelp review from 2014 for a place in Rome called Pinsere. I've been chasing that damn flavor ever since then, and only ever had it that good in Rome. UNTIL NOW, MY FRIENDS. Chef Paulo has done the seemingly impossible: real actual genuine delicious Pinsa outside of Rome. I could sit here and write a manifesto about each dish, but this review is already long enough. I've been to Rome a few times, and I've always wished I could get some part of the experience I loved having there back at home. For me, SPAZIO is the first place to achieve that, and I still can't believe it's RIGHT HERE, in Holly Springs. In my opinion, the best restaurants are owned and run by the chefs that infuse them with a lifetime of passion, practice, and love for - not just the food - but everything that happens around the food. SPAZIO is Chef Paulo's love story, authored with a romantic heart, cast with charming characters, it's a story that invites you to Rome for an evening, and surrounds you with the same food, wine, warmth and joy that you wish for when actually traveling to Rome. read more

Entrees pricing is similar to most nice Italian restaurant, but no free focaccia bread or other bread with olive oil one would expect for a similar priced Italien restaurant. What a nice surprise we had tonight. Everything was fabulous, we had the chefs meatballs (special of the night) , they were tender and flavorful with an amazing marinara. I was fighting between using the focaccia bread in that sauce or the olive oil. I had the gnocchi with Italian truffles (Chefs special) my son had the lasagna. Both were amazing, I wanted to lick my plate but being a big party had come in couldn't. For dessert I had the special a marmalade in a shortbread crust which was buttery and decadent. We have eaten at Spazio twice now and it is our new favorite Italian restaurant in the triangle. It is just like the wonderful food in Rome. This visit we started with olives and a Roman style pizza with mushrooms - fantastic! My husband had the Carbonara and I had the ravioli in a sage butter sauce - outstanding. My husband had the tiramisu and I had the panna cotta for dessert. The service was excellent as well as the wine and cocktails. The restaurant is lovely, the tall ceilings give it an airy feeling and the lighting is soothing and relaxing. This is not the Olive Garden this is they way they do it in Italy. Went for dinner on Saturday. Paid $20 for the meatballs and they tasted like they were frozen from a grocery store. The ravioli was ok. Cacio e Pepe was good. The prices were ridiculous. $29 for ravioli? $35 for mushroom risotto? Service was friendly but they cart around the dish tub to clear tables instead of carrying them to the kitchen. It's not fine dining and not worth the money. Definitely need to tweak some things and adjust their prices before I would go back. read more
