Went in, looking for an adult cat. Had looked online at a few of the adult cats, and was debating between two. Also considering one of two kittens. I had decided i wanted to get another cat after having to put my old cat down (he had gotten cancer after an 18 year life). After being told that the adult cats were each part of a bonded pair, but not each other, and one of the kittens I had liked was also part of a bonded pair, I decided to see the fourth kitten; I was mostly interested in only one, for now, due to my roommate's cat. I was taken to see the cats in another section of the shelter by one of the volunteers. He was housed in a kennel with a second cat, who was much more friendly. The cat I had been interested in was very fearful, and kept hiding- even batted at me, without claws, but was willing to be handled. After deciding I was taking the kitten, the volunteer thought I wanted the friendlier of the two, but I knew I had the time and patience for the more fearful kitty. He is now my constant companion and I am glad I brought him home. Don't discount the fearful, they have plenty of love. He was healthy, neutered, had been in a foster temporarily, and waiting to come home. Took his records to my vet, and he needed nothing for his annul checkup. I wish that I could have given SPCA a 10 Star rating. I mean literally wow. We had an incident where our dog was viciously attacked by another dog in the neighborhood. Before we got to SPCA, I drove around to 4 different facilities, all of which denied him service. I had a huge down payment that I offered as well as a credit card to put on file.... Still they didn't help. On a last ditch effort as I was watching my dog fade away, I rushed to SPCA where they treated Chevy like a king. The surgeon Ingrid is an absolute rockstar and as good as they get. The surgical staff rushed to my car and helped get him inside their facility before they underwent a multi-hour surgery consisting of 100+ sutures and a Penrose drain. They did all of this for less than the payment of euthanizing him at a different facility (which was the first things that Veterinary Healthcare Associates, of Winter Haven started with offering.) It's been three days and my boy is starting to look like himself more and more each day. Words can't express to you the level of gratitude that I have. You saved a family member of ours when everyone else said no. I wish thank you was enough. read more

Looking for love? Then you've come to the right place! I am so excited that Doggie Dates are a thing! SPCA Florida really hooked it up with a printed list of places to go and a whole goodie bag filled with a Frisbee, towels, pick-up bags, treats, and a water bowl. All sorts of things that I would have forgotten to bring with me. I'm from an hour away so I didn't really know where to bring the pup for the date. They thought of everything! Plus, what a cheap date! For only $10, I got snuggles and a walking buddy for a few hours. I didn't have to swipe left or worry about being ghosted. The only downside was that my date drooled :) Otherwise, best date ever! At first, we drove around and she did so great in the car. She let me hook her up to my doggie seatbelt with no issue. She was really good at hanging her head out the window but also really just liked to sit and chill. Definitely could tell she was excited and eager to get to wherever we were going. We stopped off at a shopping center but she decided she didn't want to get her nails done or buy any makeup. So we got a fancy Puppichino and went to a nearby park to enjoy the summer shade. Reese's did great on the leash but was too excited to enjoy any of the treats provided. She enjoyed gulping lots of water and let herself relax in the shade. She loved cheering for the softball games and seemed thrilled with all the excitement. The problem is with them answering the phones. The phone is never answered. Then you are asked to leave a voicemail which sometimes gets returned. I went up to the facility to make an appointment as my daily errands took me close to there. I did that because my multiple phone calls and voice messages had not been returned in three days. I walked into the lobby and there was only one other client there. They were being assisted. Another receptionist was behind the counter playing with a dog. I intentionally called to see what would happen. I watched the phone line light up and heard it ring. The woman playing with the dog that should've been taking care of me, ignored my call, me, AND continued to play with the dog. My call went to voicemail, as I was standing there in the lobby watching the people there not do their job. read more

Literally took my kitten for vet cause was told this was the cheapest option. Told us he had to stay for a few days cause of the medicine. Then calls me day after and tells me he is dead that his medical issues were to far gone. Why the fuck didn't they say that when we took him or even paid them 500$ and all I got was a phone call saying he died that Monday we have to get him or they will not care if he is cremated and tossed aside. What can we say? Let's begin at the end... My 12 yr old ShiTzu Hampshire has just undergone 2 types of surgery & a 3rd follow-up treatment at UF Small Animal Hospital in Gainesville--$7,000. Why? (1) removal of fluid filled gallbladder; (2) high liver enzyme level (3) fluid filled abdomen; (4) cystic testicles; (5) UT infection; (6) treatment for pneumonia (7) dehydration Beginning: Our vet was booked & an associate recommended we try the SPCA in Lakeland. We called around & everyone was booked. We were delighted to get an appt that week & we went there with hopeful expectations based on her recommendation. We booked an appointment & drove fm Windermere to Lakeland. Appt: I took our pet pal in because hubby noticed tile spotting blood specs in his semen. Treatment SPCA: Prior to the visit, we specifically requested to be scheduled for an x-ray, ultra sound, prostate check, urine analysis, blood panel, & sperm analysis. They said yes we do all that & we have the equipment. Follow-up Call: We rec'vd an x-ray that's it, but we rec'vd a bill for much more. Initial Tech: We arrived & waited our turn. Unfortunately, we requested another tech because the 1st tech rolled her eyes & threw her head upon seeing our pets attired in polos. It was chilly out. They are 12 & 13 yr old senior pets. She was an obnoxious mature white female tech who kept spitting orders at us as though she was paying us: Orders: Move your car up, hurry up, walk faster, don't let your dog wander, put on that leash faster, pick up that dog. What's with the wheelchair? I said, Sorry, but I just had foot surgery. She walked away & came back to scoff at us more venomously. So, we very quietly & discreetly requested a new warm & fuzzy tech. Vet: The visiting black female vet gave us very passive aggressive feedback post exam. It was clear she was displeased as she clinched her teeth the entire time. She appeared to be very young & extremely inexperienced with exceeding poor people skills. I also did not feel comfortable with her technical expertise & craft of knowledge. Her degree isn't worth the paper it's printed on! If we did our job like she did, I wd hope they'd retract our Ph.Ds. Passive aggressive envy has never been & will never be synonymous with professionalism, ability, & authentic training, & skill! Trust your instincts. I thought of voting with my feet upon encounter the poorly trained & unkind tech, but I put my assessing observations aside for the sake of our pet pal's health. You see, our reg vet was booked 3-weeks out & our instincts were that he needed to be evaluated. Our bill was approximately $600 & we rec'vd no professional medical expertise for our money. Our pet almost died because of their lax care. Cleanliness: However, we did rec'v a respiratory infection that almost killed our pet pal. He sneezed for several days after the visit. We just adopted a new kitty here who we love! The cat room is very nice and they are all very sweet! All the employees here are very nice and helpful except for one old lady who will constantly hover over you like you are there to do something bad. She is my only complaint. Both times we have visited to look she hovers over you and lectures on how to take care of a cat and almost sounded like she wasn't going to let us take our kitten home because we already have one. She told us he would pee all over our house ?? Never heard of that extreme happening but its only been a day and they are getting along so well its adorable. I took my car in for service in the morning but the vehicle was not ready in the given time. I called the SPCA to tell them I would be a little late 45 mins prior to my appt. There was no answer, so I tried another prompt, but was then told to just call again and leave a message. I did. I arrived about 15 to 20 mins late and asked if it was ok, they said sure and that they would call me in. Later, after we were in the room, I was told there would be a $16.20 fee for being late. I mentioned that I had called, and they were not aware I had called ahead and mentioned that the fee would be waived. When we left, my pet was fine and was just looked at we were just briefly there, we were charged the fee. The girl at the check-out desk asked about having the fee waived, but to no avail. I was very disappointed with this practice, as I had called ahead, and asked if ok, and was never told about the late fee until I was in the room. Had I known, I would have rescheduled. I have been waiting 8 days to make an appointment of which they sent me an email stating it was time for my dog to get his shot and yearly exam. Rented traps from them to capture feral cats to pay to get them spayed and neutered. Take day off work to capture cats and take them in to be told they only do it on Friday. The girl who rented the traps to the person who picked them up for me admitted that she didn't volunteer that information. I inform them I'm not taking another day off work when all I'm trying to do is the right thing. They inform me that I'm not doing the right thing by abandoning feral stay cats to them in their traps. I've donated generously in the past, but will find a deserving pet organization to fund in the future. Update on review. After the initial negative experience, SPCA reached out to me like nothing ever happened and offered the strays for pick up after their surgery's. The cats have recovered nicely, as have I. I waited for more than an hour before my appointment, even had to wait after the time of my appointment regardless if being early. I do not know what happened to this place. There used to be real professionals and caring people running this place now the doctors and people are pushy and making my dog sick. They wanted us to have blood work done for our dog, we do not have the money they want to do this. We explained this to them but they kept at us, insisting he needed blood work done. Then, they prescribed him a medication that he doesn't need and it's making him sicker. I am VERY unsatisfied and upset. I hate to do it but I am going to find a REAL vet. The volunteers need to learn how to have more patience with these dogs. They are scared and locked up in cages most of the time, they never get any love or attention, yet SPCA still wants to hire people who are easily frustrated by untrained animals. There is never a reason for a volunteer, employee, or anyone for that matter, to be forcefully yanking a dog up off the ground by their leash because of the dog's barking. Especially when it's a crowded and populated area with other dogs. Most reasonable people would know and understand that almost any dog will be barking in that scenario. The staff at the SPCA was amazing. They told us a heartbreaking story of our little boy, who we have adopted. Since we already had a service dog at home, we needed to schedule time to come back so she and he could meet. When we went today the staff were overjoyed with the fact that both our dog and Tobias were amazing together. They don't even pick up the phone when you call. I tried calling on a Tuesday at 10 am and it constantly would just go to voicemail. I even tried emailing them to make an appointment and the email was wrong. How are people suppose to make vet appointments if the clinic doesn't even answer the phone. Will someone please explain to me why this woman named Mary is still working there after I have already read a negative review about her? As a result of you all not taking action, my wife drove an hour out only to be treated horrendously by this individual. I assume that the name is Mary due to a very similar review I read. My wife was about to adopt from your facility. Instead, this woman lectured, rushed, had a temper tantrum, raised her voice to her and brought her anxiety level extremely high. My wife is one of the kindest individuals you will ever meet, and this person did this to her. We will not be rushed into getting an animal unless we are comfortable with the decision. Furthermore, from what I was told, this woman has this reputation around that clinic. By definition, that is a hostile work environment and an uncomfortable place for an individual to walk into. I can guarantee that if I was there and witnessed that then I would have verbally stopped her immediately. No one will talk to my wife like that when I am around. Circling back to my question: why has this woman not been held accountable yet for what she has done in the past? As a result of this, my wife has been traumatized by this experience. How many more complaints do you all really need to take action? Any response not directly answering these questions are insufficient. We will not be returning. But your response to these questions on how you plan to deal with this woman will be read by those who look at reviews and are researching your place. I had a 5 star experience with vet Dr. Sullivan and assistant Amanda, who were fabulous with explaining everything to this new abandoned kitten owner and laid out a plan for vaccinations, spaying and gave lessons on nail clipping and med administration. They have 7 vets who are cheaper than animal clinics. They separate cat & dog waiting rooms. It's very clean in the vet clinic. $38 base price visit compared to $55 at All Creatures Vet. Then ala carte services for shots, etc. Where adoption cats are kept includes cages and a decent play area. I got a haughty woman on the phone that almost turned me off to using them (sarcastic know-it-all). Also have a hard time getting ahold of the "surrender" contact who then says they don't have any room. (So the place does have some faults.) Years ago when I wanted to volunteer or foster, I was turned away but it seems they have come a long way over the years and may be worth your try. read more

Called to inquire about required documents for adoption. I wasn't sure if I needed to bring a lease agreement, my current dog for a meet and greet, etc. The lady that answered was extremely condescending. Told me it was my responsibility to know whether or not my apartment accepts animals, not hers.
