They are obviously well loved and cared for. They also take the hard luck cases that other shelters won't. They work hard with the feral cats to get them socialized and ready to go to a good home. The new regulations the state has come up with are going to be financially challenging to any shelter, and especially so for the smaller ones. Any donations to them would help, they are not as well known as the bigger shelters and get overlooked at funding time. Volunteers are always needed, and it's a great way to interact with and socialize with the cats.

There are many cat rooms here with cats that have been neglected or left behind. There are also many dog kennels in areas that patrons do not see. You can look at dog photos on the wall to pick a dog to play with. There is an outdoor area for you to play with the dogs. My favorite cat is princess lord. She is adorable. This animal shelter accepts food, monetary, time, and toy donations. The ladies that work here are really nice. There is a thrift store across the animal shelter which donates all the money to the animal shelter. Support it! The Susquehanna Animal Shelter also brings the animals to the local colleges to help students and faculty to destress during finals week. Adopt , don't shop!

Financially we were able to give a donation during the holiday season in addition to buying all the essentials to bring our girl home. But it is nice that they have events such as this where families who might not be able to part with all that money up front can take home a new family member, spoil them a little, and hopefully give back throughout the year rather than just paying the adoption fee. I was impressed by how clean the cat room was and how happy the cats seemed. The volunteers didn't seem to know much about the individuals and the lady working at the front desk was a bit brash. I also do love that it is a non kill shelter. The only thing that brought it down to a 4 was just the harsh attitude behind the desk.

They get them fixed, if needed, shots , etc and screen adopters to be sure the kitties are going to safe and loving furever homes! The staff is wonderful and so caring of the cats and kittens that are there! They do rely on donations of money, food, litter, etc. to be able to take in more cats. They find foster families to care for mamas and their babies and post pictures of the available cats. I do donate as much as I am able. They truly do an amazing job!! They also have a gift shop to purchase items and that money goes directly to the caring of all the cats. Stop in if you're looking for a kitty to join your family- you will find the perfect one for you!!

They take such good care of their animal populations and they're great about educating new adopters! For anyone who might question their adoption costs, remember that theyre adopting out animals that have had full veterinary care (vaccines, medications, surgery, etc) and even low-cost veterinary isn't free!

That was the main event advertised and was enough to get me so excited for a trip, but it was actually SO much more! Before we actually even met the pigs, we got a chance to meet and pet puppies, the barn kitten, horses, goats and a mule and I have to say, Robin the goat stole my heart... While we pet and played and fed, Maggie taught us about the work that they do at the sanctuary. They rescue all different kinds of animals from different situations. Sometimes owners can no longer take care of their animal, sometimes they rescue them from livestock auctions (like Tanto the mule), but all of the time this amazing place is just trying to make sure these animals have happy lives. She explained some sad truths behind how teacup pigs are bred (they are basically just fed so little that their growth is stunted) but she just made us fall more and more in love with all of the animals we were meeting. So many animals at the sanctuary were up for adoption so if your house has a spare room, I can totally vouch for Robin the goat. They also have dogs that are looking for homes if that is more your speed. If you are just visiting the area like us, I highly recommend going for a tour. The last time I adopted from there was years back, a cat, no offense to the previous administration but the improvements are amazing. They respond very quickly to any questions or request to see a pet after application is done. The kennels are all clean, animals well cared for. The don't leave you hanging for days when you call, ask questions or do application. The front desk ladies are extremely professional and well organized, as good, much better actually than other rescues I have seen. They have you bring in current dog to meet potential adoptee which to me is a GREAT idea, the young man that handled that was extremely knowledgeable and kind. In todays world of so many needy pets, they are the light at the end of the tunnel, wonderful people and amazingly professionally run. The adoption fee is also very fair considering how much it includes, getting a pet already spayed or neutered is a huge plus. I would recommend adopting from them to all who are looking for a furbaby to add to their family, Bravo SPCA!
