My favorite resale shop. I always find something I can use at a great price. The Volunteers are awesome. And goes to a cause I admire.

On April 11, I adopted a very sweet brown tabby cat through the organization, PetsAlive. I named…read moremy new cat Theodore and was told that Theo had been found on the streets and had recently had scabies, eye surgery and skin issues - all of which seemed to be healing nicely. I was never told of his extensive dental disease or that he had feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV). I noticed that Theo's energy level seemed a little low, but he was eating very well and didn't display any signs of digestive issues. I DID notice that his breath was very smelly, so I took him to my veterinarian. The long story made short is that Theo will have to have several teeth extracted and his length and quality of life could be affected because bloodwork showed that he is positive for FIV. I have requested that PetsAlive take care of the dental issues Theo has since I can't afford thousands of dollars for teeth to be extracted. My concern of permanently returning Theo to PetsAlive is that his cycle of being an unwanted rescue cat will continue. His life could be one of going from adoption site to adoption site and never being adopted because of his bad teeth and FIV diagnosis. Please be aware that, according to my veterinarian, there are several no kill shelters that DON'T test animals for FIV or leukemia. Before you adopt an animal, please ask if the animal has been thoroughly tested for diseases that could affect the animal's health and wellbeing.

I really appreciate rescues like this that really care! I just recently went to Barktoberfest. I brought my dogs and we dressed up! Was such a fun time! The best event yet! Great vendors and a doggie costume contest. Hope they do this every year. Special thanks to Kathryn Riccio for all her help when we were at the event!

Where do I begin? I guess from the start . . …read more First, let it be known that I am a long-time volunteer with a national breed rescue group that handles a different kind of spaniel. While I had never had a Cocker before, I was very familiar with how rescue groups work. Years ago, when my youngest son was in college, he wanted to adopt a dog, but not a large one. He was enamored with Cockers, so I helped him by putting in an app to adopt. At the time, CSRET was overloaded with available dogs. I visited their booths at various pet stores, and when my son came back from school for Thanksgiving break, we went to see a dog that was being boarded locally. He just didn't connect with that particular dog (as matching a dog to the right owner is truly key), and we were about to leave. Just then, one of the techs brought out another dog that had just finished heartworm treatment. And that's all she wrote . . . This lovely 2-year-old girl came home with us that day. She went back to college with my son, but things got to be a bit hectic for him, what with work and classes. So she came back to live with our crew. And I personally fell in love with her. I realized what a great breed this is, and this girl became best (and I mean BEST) buds with one of our other dogs. About the same age, they went everywhere together. Her previous heartworm condition finally caught up with her, as the infection (although gone now) must have damaged her heart. She had congestive heart failure and went to the Rainbow Bridge in October, 2023. We were all heartbroken, but I had a really tough time accepting her loss. I knew that I wanted another Cocker in my life. Contacted CSRET and put in an application in November, 2023. While a bit slow to respond (yes, they are all volunteers), I finally did connect with them in January, 2024. There was this wonderful boy that they wanted me to meet -- Met his foster mom and the CSRET director at a half-way point in Friendswood. I knew this was the guy for us, and we took him home that day. He is everything I yearned for after the loss of our first Cocker. He is an absolute joy. Cocker Spaniel Rescue of East Texas, as stated, is an all-volunteer organization. They receive no funding other than donations. All of their dogs are fully vetted, tested and treated for heartworms, current on all vaccines and groomed. They are also temperament tested to determine the best kind of Forever Home for them to go to. I cannot say enough good things about this wonderful organization. Since, as I said I work with another rescue group, I can attest to the professional way that they take in, handle, rehabilitate and get these dogs into great homes. With an excellent reputation, CSRET is an absolute pleasure to work with. Rescue and save a life!

The dogs are vaccinated and cared for prior to adoption. Leo turned out to have some undiagnosed health problems due to the abuse he suffered by his prior owner and required medical treatment. I reached out to the rescue group and without hesitation they assisted with his medical bills. Without them Leo would not be the happy, loving creature and constant companion he is today. I would not hesitate to adopt from them again.

We have tried on several occasions to visit in person over a 2-year time period to view animals and no one is around during posted hours. Today, a miracle! We talked to a lady exiting the gate who rudely said you must set an appointment. She did not know I was calling the number while my husband was talking to her. He noticed she looked at the phone ringing. She ignored the calls. It is our belief this "adoption center" is not amiable to adopting out the captured pets. We hope they are not unnecessarily euthanizing animals.

Upon her death in late 2015, she wanted me to donate money to a Galveston County no-kill shelter and I picked Bay Area Pet Adoptions. They were so kind. I explained her last wishes, and how she wanted the money donation spent; money to assist senior adopters adopt preferably senior companion pets. (senior for seniors) They published a picture of my mom and her dog online with a very sweet article of things I had shared, which I really appreciated! And then, as each elderly person came and adopted a pet, they were kind enough to send me a picture of the adopter and the dog they adopted. I don't remember now how many they sent, but to this day, 10 years later, I still remember the kindness and how they respected my mom's wishes! I will say, she also left money to one of the largest no-kill shelters in the USA in another state. They were not as appreciative and were not as eager to use the funds the way she wanted. This taught me a lot. Small shelters run by tireless dog lovers is a passion they have in their blood. Mom's donation made a true impact on Bay Area that year, which I know made my mom and me very happy!
