Intro: If you're looking for a speakeasy, Speakeasy Kava is not that. The name is deceiving. It's a kava and kratom spot. I stopped by on a weekday in the afternoon by Uber after exploring the Dali museum. Ambiance (2.5/5): Speakeasy Kava is a hipster/alternative type of spot. No frills. While it was chill during the afternoon, I noticed that they have a stage so it looks like they have live music or performances sometimes. They have some seating at the bar and some tabletop seating. I sat at the bar. You'll see people hanging out and other people on their computers. They have free WiFi. Service (3/5): You order at the counter and then they bring your drink to you. I kept my tab open. It took a little while for me to close my tab because the "baristas" weren't super attentive when I was there. Drinks (3/5): If you've never had kava or kratom, it's an experience. These spots are popular in Florida. They have a variety of flavors. Do some research on kava and kratom if you'd like to learn more about it. I'm not a big fan of the taste but I'm happy I tried it. Good bucket list item. Overall: If you've never tried kava or kratom, Speakeasy Kava is in a prime location in downtown St. Pete. If it's your vibe, stick around and hang out for a while. Down to earth minimalistic spot with a selection of teas kratum and Kava- definitely not your typical cafe- more in line with a dive bar vibe, complete with a stage for shows. Service was fine I got one of their loose leaf teas pumpkin mate tea. I couldn't taste the pumpkin but it wasn't bad. A few tables and 6 lazy boys along the wall for seating. Nothing wrong with this establishment just nothing special either just less cozy than I'd like in a cafe. Strongest kratom around, a little gritty, but the effects are worth it. Nice kavatenders and outdoor seating. I recommend the house-made hibiscus delta-8 drink. Open till 3-4 which is the later than Mad Hatters on week days. read more

Great spot!! I celebrated Pride this year during an alcohol-free diet. We were bar hopping on Central and I saw there was a local kava place! My friend and I walked over and Speakeasy Central Kava Bar had my name written all over it!!! They had so many great canned and bottled options- from Perrier and Vita Coco to Liquid Death and Coconut water and a variety of kombuchas. They also had a snack display with Clif bars, nuts, and other assorted vegan and allergy friendly treats. I ordered a kava 70-30 to-go (that the other bars were friendly enough to let me bring in) and a Living Vitalitea Paradise Passion kombucha for later- my friend got a Liquid Death water. I don't drink alcohol. I don't drink kava. I don't drink kratom. Yes, the 100 percent sober life may sound lame, but I love the challenge of finding creative new drinks or discovering new teas. Great staff! The kava tender at Speakeasy went over the different tea options with me and took the time to brew and ice an herbal tea for me - it was sooo good! The owner, Allen is sweet, warm and welcoming. He patiently provided details and info on all of the different drinks with my friends, and fixed me the most delicious homemade soda by combining seltzer with all-natural blueberry syrup "flavoring." Vibe I'm a sucker for cool lighting and loved the lighting fixtures and overall ambiance. The customers seemed chill while enjoying a spirited game of '90s trivia. Popped in here for a coffee. Felt a little industrial, and not like a spot I'd want to sit and sip on my coffee - although their appeared to be a few locals who met up to hang out there. I tried the mushroom coffee which was interesting, but did not taste as much like coffee as I was told. My boyfriend had a regular coffee and he said it was good. read more

The bartender was really nice, place was clean and they seem to be very popular with the laptop gamer crowd. They are open 7am-3am. I can't drink what they sell but they do have a good size menu. It is VERY small with some high top tables and bar seating. It is hidden away in the back left corner of a small shopping plaza. They do allow smoking so it was smokey inside. There is a very small seating area out front. They have trivia nights, Karaoke nights and drink specials. They use Clover so you can earn points! Wasn't crazy loud and has a super laid back feel. Very relaxing evening spent here with a friend, just chatting for a couple of hours. Sat on the couch and sipped our kratom drinks enjoying the singer/guitar player who wasn't so loud we couldn't hear each other. My first time trying kratom and it was a lot stronger than I expected. Primarily a kava and kratom bar, this place knows how to brew a perfect, strong tea and sling great kava shells. It's tough to go anywhere else! Call me spoiled by their strong double kratom teas, but I love that I can pick whichever type (color) I like with a wide variety of flavored syrups that are also made from real seasonal fruits. They've got something for everyone. You can tell they really care about the quality of their products, and what people want while they drink and hang out. They are always playing great music, but low enough to hear good conversation or if you need to do work/study. There is always something on their TV that'll cheer you up, too! They always have a deal going on for their shots, shells, coffee, or teas! Not to mention cool events in the evenings like trivia (which is fantastic), painting with a tea, open mic, ping pong, super smash tournaments, pajama and movie nights, and the list goes on. Did I mention they're 24 hours if you need a late night escape? They've got the time and the tea to chill you out or wake you up! These employees are so friendly and welcoming that they can quickly become like family. Or they're also just as chill they will leave you be to get work done.
