Just left this shop for the 1st time. I had the privilege of getting tattooed by joe riley. What a laid back, stand up guy. He made me comfortable from the first interaction. He explained everything in detail. He is a master at what he does. This was the 1bst time having someone free hand a tattoo on me and I couldn't be happier. The shop is comfortable, clean, and has lots of movie/game memorabilia to keep you interested. The staff was all welcoming, professional, and polite, offering us waters while we were there and making sure we were comfortable. So shout out to joe, jesse and all the guys at speak easy. These are just small tattoos. I have also had many artists do tattoos for me because every artist except for one guy never answers texts to schedule an appointment. Terrible customer service. The owner harassed me for 8.5 hrs about me being upset that Jesse Tilson didn't finish my underboob shading as he said. I asked more than once about finishing it and he ignored me and I asked for pictures that he took right after my tattoos and again was ignored. It has been the most bizarre experience I have ever had with a business. Cody did my son's tattoos so Joe Riley said he won't tattoo my son anymore because I spoke honestly about how I felt about being dismissed by someone I gave a lot of money to!!! Oh and the best part Jesse told Joe I made advances at him and he politely let me down!! He is the complete opposite of men I date wrong race, wrong color, no eyebrows, tattoos all over his face, that's not my type!!! I just really didn't appreciate the grade school attitudes by "grown men." Joe got my number from Jesse and my son's number from Cody and messaged us for hours!! Joe Riley is an absolute treasure to have in the tattoo world. He created the most beautiful memorial tattoo for my father. The time, detail, and creativeness he put in this was above and beyond anything I could ask for. His tattoo apprentice is also absolutely amazing and friendly. His entire staff is pleasant and very welcoming. Joe's chair side manner is top notch and he was very pleasant to talk to for the few hours of being tattooed. His shop is clean, and sterile. My wife and I have a significant amount of experience with tattoos not only through friends and family, but with our own tattoos as well, and certainly will not be bringing any business here in the future. My wife had a small tattoo done on her wrist that is clearly blowing out, and you can see physical gouges in her skin where the artist was dragging the gun. I don't know if he was inexperienced, in a hurry, or just not paying attention, but it was sloppy. Paying $100 for a small tattoo that is poorly done is ridiculous, but it's the owner's reaction that is the icing on the cake. He clearly doesn't take criticism well, as exemplified by his response to the other negative reviews of his shop on Google, and quickly becomes aggressive to the people he should be trying to help have a better experience. Customer service matters, and if your first reaction to a negative review is to condescend your customer, you shouldn't be the one replying for your business. Either way, don't just take my word for it, look at the other reviews and see for yourself before deciding if it's worth it. Things can go wrong, it happens, but it's the way you handle it that either makes a customer for life, or loses them and everyone they know. read more

Last minute decided to get a tattoo, had a simple request, and it ended up being $60 with my generous tip on top. This shit lasted SIX DAYS!! Basically faded completely. I went back to ask Phil to fix it and he refused to unless I paid $20. I don't even know where to start with this review.... I called the shop to make an appointment and the phone number was invalid. So I went to their Facebook page (because they don't have a website) and messaged the owner, Joey. He responded right away and called me to book the appointment. He seemed pretty cool over the phone. He wanted to make sure I was definitely coming to the appointment because he "only works by appointment" because he's on a tattoo TV show and is always busy. Okay that's cool I guess. So I get there about 5 minutes before my appointment time and no one is there. So I'm waiting outside the door. Someone finally comes about 10 minutes later and tells me Joey is running late. So I'm talking with the other 2 artists and they're asking me what I'm getting and making conversation. They seem really cool. Joey finally shows up 30 MINUTES LATE. So you're going to make a big deal about me showing up, but you can be late? And his excuse was because he couldn't peel his daughter away from Nick Jr. on TV. The tattoo I wanted was of a quote in a font I found online. I wasn't able to print it so I emailed it to him and they printed it at the shop. He was telling me he recommended a different layout than my original idea, because it would look more appealing to the eye. Now I appreciated the feedback, but wanted to make sure I 100% understood his idea before proceeding. After all it's going to be on my body forever. He was very annoyed by my questions and gave me some lecture about how he has trust built up with his clientele, he is on the TV show where he won a contest on one of the episodes, and he never does lettering anyways blah blah blah. Such a conceited asshole. Eventually he just said he didn't want to deal with it anymore so he handed me off to the artist who supposedly specializes in lettering. So I'm confused why you didn't just refer me to him if you're too good/too busy, and don't like lettering anyways??? The other artist was very nice and said he would call and reschedule his next client. I didn't want to have him change his day around for me because his boss is a complete asshole. So anyways, the guy gave up and handed me over to his employee but kept butting into our conversation putting his 2 sense in and still being a total jerk. So at that point I just picked up my stuff and walked out... as he was yelling at me out the door. I have 3 other tattoos and have not once ever been so disrespected or baffled about an artist like this. I understand that your tattoo artist isn't your best friend, but it's not that hard to be nice and explain to your customer what you're talking about. I work in the customer service industry as a waxer, and that's like me telling a client I'm not going to wax their brows because I don't like the shape they want. No..... you tell them your recommendation based on their face shape and the existing brow they have. But you should never turn someone away like that. It's absurd. read more

I tried for a week to get ahold of them, every time I called there was no answer. I would get a text back, then I asked if he could get us in on a certain day....took another day to answer me. So then I asked what time he would like us to come in...never got an answer. So I said we will not be coming in on that day. Immediately he texted me back "why?". I didn't answer, I don't owe an explanation. He then called me the next day, so I ignored the call. THEN he left me an unprofessional text message and voicemail. I copy and pasted his text below... "That was really immature and rude of you and if I did something wrong that upset you then the mature way to handle it is it to tell me but it is obvious you don't want me to work on you I just wanted to chance to voice my opinion" I never leave reviews or normally care if someone doesn't have the best customer service. Every artist in the shop is friendly and approachable. Phil Sachs did a sleeve for me and I receive compliments on it at least a few times per week -- and it was all done free-handed! I had my reservations about going to a tattoo shop in a mall, but Phil came highly recommended and I am so happy with what he did. read more

I am currently getting one of his tattoos covered up and plan on getting two others covered as well. One hasn't been started yet but will be a cover up of a cover up that was done by him covering up his own tattoo. I attached a photo. When I told him I didn't like the colors he used for the moon he blew up on me in his shop and became very angry. He has also done a few good tattoos on me which I won't be covering up as I like them, but is inconsistent with his work so you'll be gambling on what kind of mood he is in when you get a tattoo from him. I would definitely recommend Twisted Raven Tattoo or Anchored Art. Both are downtown! Good luck! read more

I'll give the shop 2 stars because Cody G is amazing. I have received 5 tattoos from this shop. I use to be pretty pleased when I had work done by Cody g. He messed up once with a color I choose. In an area on my tat, he did green instead of grey. Still pretty please tho. However, I went to joe twice and the first tattoo he didn't take his time and I'm not 100% pleased with the piece. The second tattoo we didn't finish because of a disagreement we had. He is very cocky, rude, and too pushy. He will try and overcharge you for his work as well. He has made me bruise and I have never experienced that before with any of the 9 tattoos I have. My friend has also had a negative experience with this shop. She use to go to Jason who also does amazing work and has great prices. But she had joe do a piece and she ended up paying in full upfront. He outlined in the first session and she paid for the second session in full (she has proof the tattoo is paid in full) Every time she goes to schedule the second session, joe puts her off. It's been 3 years and the piece is still not finished. I will never go back to this shop due to Joe and his attitude and how he handles customers as well as how shady he is. read more

I'm super confused about the bad reviews because my husband and I went in for the first time last night and Joe tattooed both of us. He was super helpful in taking what we wanted and explaining what would work and not work. He made sure everything was exactly what we wanted and couldn't have been nicer!!!! We both LOVE our tattoos and he's going to be doing all our work from now on. i called in prior to coming in to ask about walk-in availability. they said they were accepting walk-in's. i asked if they had time for one today and the gentleman on the phone said yes. i asked if there was a best time for me to come in, he said to just swing on by and it wouldn't be a problem. let him know i would be getting there soon. when i got there, no one greeted me and i stood there for nearly five minutes before anyone even looked in my direction. really awkward. the gentleman i eventually spoke to ended up being really nice, but told me everyone was really busy today and i should take a card, send in my information, and come back in at a later time after setting up an appointment. i wouldn't have minded waiting awhile in the shop for a walk-in, and wouldn't have cared if they didn't have any availability for one today, but i wish i could have saved myself the time and effort of driving all the way there and going in. the guy on the phone should have just been honest and said it would be better to make an appointment if they were busy. i would have preferred that to going in expecting that i could be seen today. this experience just rubbed me the wrong way and made me feel like my time wasn't valued. i won't be going back. read more

I went in today with a friend to get a tattoo. We spoke with the staff and they were very friendly. Jason, I think his name was, warned us that our rib cages most likely will hurt especially because we've never had a tattoo before. When I was getting mine done, he took his time and made sure he got me used to the process before he did bigger sections. Getting it done was hardly painful--I thought it was going to be a lot worse. I went in with a friend of mine to get my first tatoo and was treated very badly. The person that did mine was very unprofessional and rude. When I talked to the owner about my experience he was arrogant and even more unprofessional. I told him I had 3 witnesses as to how I was treated and he said he wasn't talking to them just me. . Not only that but now I have to go somewhere else to have it fixed. I showed him a picture of what I wanted and it looks totally different and not what I wanted at all. My fiancee went to this so called place of business to get a tattoo in memory of her father that passed away recently we went in there with the intentions that she would come out with a great tattoo well everything went horrible the guy that did her tattoo, Juan messed up on the initials of her father first he showed us and everything looked fine then he said he had to change something on the drawing of the tattoo and came back put the tattoo on her and he changed up the letters then when she looked at it she looked like she wanted to cry I asked her what was wrong she said he messed up on my dad's initials so I told Juan and he made it even worse he tried to write over them and now it looks like a big blob just horrible. So I told my fiancee to ask Joe if he can fix it so she messaged him and he apologized and said he would fix it, she was excited and relieved when he told her little did we know he's a liar he kept bailing on her appointment saying he's a busy guy and has kids and that supposedly she was bailing out on her appointments when that was a big lie then she asked him for her money back if he couldn't do it so she could get it fixed elsewhere and he told her she wasn't going to be bullying him whatever that means then for some reason he started bringing up the fact that he had kids and try to give us this sob story about how he needs money and doesn't give handouts at that he said he was on a show and that everyone knows him and no one will believe what we say about him because he's famous and to put the cherry on top he threatened to report her harassing him at her place of work and that he was going to talk to management about her harassing him when he was sending her text after text telling her he was going to get her fired if she reported to the BBB this guy is so unprofessional now she has to have Lazer tattoo removel surgery I'm in shock how he was talking to her it was so bad that I was nervous for her to work in the same area that he works because he was sending her harassing text that she no longer works by his job which is unfortunate now im filing for a restraining order because he is a creep and I'm nervous for her all this could have been prevented if he would keep it professional and I do plan on taking this to court if needed! read more

My new artist had said him and his coworkers have done multiple fixes of Joes mistakes! I had made an appointment a month in advance to get a tattoo by Joe Riley, the owner, on my 18th birthday. The day before my birthday he had asked if I could come in that day. I had an idea why he was rescheduling and that is because the playoffs were on my birthday. So while I'm still a minor he tells me to come in the day before. I had replied in telling him that that is illegal and since he is clearly busy that I will go elsewhere. He then said "ok gotcha". The following day, which I am now 18 on... I go and get my tattoo from somewhere else. He messaged me and facebook called me asking where I was... When just yesterday I said I was going somewhere else. He then continued To harass me by posting on my wall on Facebook, messaging me, and calling me. He was supposed to finish my sleeve with in 12 months it's been 3 years! He owed me the work from a deal we made he never fulfilled his end. I have a half done sleeve. For the last year I have tried to get in. Instead we got in a huge fight over Facebook messanger. He called me a b*tch and spoiled brat. Said my family is peices of sh*t. Said that I have a horrible reputation in town and talked a bunch of sh*t. Threatened to punch me if he saw me. Then asks to see me and talk face to face and let him tattoo me so he can be done with me forever. I refused after that to get tattooed by him cause I knew he would do a sh*tty job. My sister's husband got a tattoo of his daughter's footprint on his chest. Apparently they couldnt get ahold of the guy and for some reason spoke to the guy over facebook on messaging. They gave him an outline of what they wanted, he gave them a certain price and when they got to the appointment the guy had someone else do it. Then tried to charge more. Apparently the guy did extra on the lettering and did a different font than was originally agreed. Tried to harass my 18 year old sister on it with the same excuses about his kids that everyone lese has had. "That they have to make a profit". My sister ended up leaving in tears after the guy went off on her. She has the facebook messages still. The thing is they did all this extra stuff without even talking to either my sister or her husband about it then has the audacity to try to charge more. Like alot more. I believe the original amount was like 80 dollars by the end of it it turned into around 140. My sister can be pretty passive sometimes. She is pretty easy going. But when i heard what happened and saw the messages, my immediate thought even before they even went in was just be careful. The guy seemed sketchy. Apparently he bragged about being in and out of jail as if he was trying to intimidate them when they actually got the tattoo done. It was a pretty simple tattoo from what I saw. As a sister I think that they tried to rip her off in that they agreed on an original amount and then they tried to get more without even telling them. As a person who works in customer service myself it really pisses me off when I see this kind of thing happening. If i can manage to be professional and honest, it shouldn't be to hard for them. I have been thinking about getting a tattoo myself. Of a rose with the colors of my kid's birthstone. Honestly as far as the kid's excuse this guy seems to always have, my sister has a baby she had just had who was there during the whole thing. He screamed at her so loud it took awhile for my sister to calm my niece down. Didnt even stop when she started crying. He scared her. Everyone else has kids to support to. So trying to swindle a young couple is pretty swell. I will absolutely not be going here for my tattoo. After what I have heard from my sister plus the other reviews I don't even want these people to know I exist or what I look like. I won't be suprised when they shut down.
