I've been coming here for the past 1-2 years and am very pleased with the quality and level of care. I know some people don't like the 'open setting', and that interns/ students do some of the rehab with you, but I don't mind any of that. I like the fact that they have many locations so you can always find a therapist if you need one on short notice... and you can even move between locations if needed. I have been working with Andrele Reyes at W57 Spear for more than a year, first on my shoulder and more recently on my tore ACL pre and post surgery. Andrele is an excellent professional and a true expert. His work on my knee has been really impressive and because of his level of care and attention I was able to quickly return to my daily activities after the ACL surgery. After knee replacement surgery, I was having such complications, that my surgeon recommended further physical therapy to assist in my recovery. I wasn't looking forward to it, as my knee was very painful and I could barely walk; plus my previous experience of therapy had not been very pleasant. I opted to go to Spear Therapy at 57 W. 57th St in Manhattan. Well what a difference from my previous experiences!!!! The facility itself is very pleasant, the employees personable, and the ambiance is upbeat making for a very welcoming atmosphere. I was extremely fortunate to be assigned to a very caring, knowledgeable and professional therapist, Elana Levine! Elana has been an absolute blessing! She immediately knew the type of exercises I would need and she continually changes up the routines to ensure my overall recovery and keep me engaged. My surgeon is very satisfied and pleased with the major improvements and progress I've made with the program Elana developed for me. Elana now has me at the point, where I am able to get back to a normal routine, to the point that I can even bicycle and take my dog for long walks, activities that I thought I would never be able to achieve after the surgery. Ordinarily going to therapy can be a grudge and boring; however, the team at Spear keep it fun and lively with Elana, Tim, Kara, Sharon and Nana and the rest of the crew going all out; making recovery a pleasant experience! I had a wonderful experience at Spear. I came in for chronic headaches with little expectations of success after much failure with medications. Much to my surprise my physical therapy with Andrele at Spear made a huge difference! I now have very few headaches and they are much less severe. Andrele knew exactly what exercises would help and was very patient and knowledgeable. I can strongly recommend Spear PT and specifically Andrele Reyes based on my recent experience. I have had chronic back issues over a period of 30+ years during which time I've been referred to a number of physical therapists. Andrele was exceptional not only in diagnosing my issue but in very skillfully bringing me back from a situation of extreme pain and limited range of motion to feeling completely pain free and far more limber. In addition Andrele inspired me to be far more diligent about stretching and exercising regularly to build up my core strength and avoid future back issues. I had a shoulder injury and I've been unable to fully use my left arm for over a year. I needed physical therapy to rebuild the tear in my arm and SPEAR was recommended by a friend. Jennifer was the therapist assigned to me and she was absolutely wonderful. Best physical therapy practice hands-down! Before coming to Spear, I had been discharged early from 2 other PT practices (both in FL where I lived at the time) that were treating my severe wrist tendonitis because the OT's couldn't figure out why I wasn't healing according to what they had been taught. When my orthopedist at Weill Cornell recommended Spear for PT, I was unsure if they would be any different from the PT groups I saw in FL. I was so wrong! I worked with Elaine Crerar, and she was able to use her vast knowledge to create a program for me specifically vs the more cookie cutter ones I had experienced previously. Her plan was like a little boot camp for my wrists, but the results I experienced and the lack of pain that came after working with her were so worth it! She essentially fixed what other OTs could not. If you care about your health and a speedy recovery, you definitely want to go to them. 10/10 read more

Nothing but a 5 stars for Spear Physical Therapy on W 57th and my PT, Mary Frances Roebuck! I was referred to Spear PT last year by my orthopedic doctor after dealing with months of terrifying, chronic pain flare ups in my back and leg. Even though Spear PT is a clinic where your PT will be seeing multiple patients at once, I never felt like I wasn't getting the attention I needed (at other clinics, I'd see the PT for only a few mins before being placed with a student to do exercises.) The space is clean, the staff is friendly, and they always have great music on :) I've seen a few different PTs since 2018 and Mary Frances was the first one that ever actually listened to me and made me feel cared for. I remember during our evaluation she was so invested in learning about my background, asking many questions about my lifestyle and experiences that other doctors had never asked before. Through our work together, she helped me manage my pain level and avoid another bad flare up. When I learned that I needed back surgery, she was an amazing emotional support for that, too. It was a no brainer to return to her post-surgery for my recovery PT! I credit our time together with my speedy and successful healing. She helped me build confidence in my strength and an understanding of my body that I never had before. For example, she helped me correct a pattern in my walking gait, something that other doctors had pointed out, but never provided any info on how to fix. She literally taught me how to walk correctly, among many other things :) We developed a great personal relationship and I always looked forward to our sessions and conversations, which made it easy to stay consistent and committed to my appointments. Mary Frances is kind, empathetic, optimistic, and most importantly, super knowledgeable about the body. It was such a scary experience to have back surgery and she was there for me every step of the way, both before and after. Thank you Mary Frances and the rest of the Spear PT staff! I had a very positive experience with my therapist Mary Francis. My treatment was related to a cancer recovery and Mary Francis was very sensitive it my "unique" treatment and knowledgeable. I was off work and able to see her 3x per week for just over one month and had marked improvement, even my doctors were impress with my progress. Not unlike as mentioned by others, she did work on multiple clients at a time but I don't recall more than one other at a time and never felt unsupervised. They're small but it's a clean and friendly environment. I did have one co-pay overcharge that was quickly resolved. I had a wonderful experience working with Lindsay Smith over the past 5 weeks. I came in to treat tendonitis in my right elbow from bouldering, which caused so much pain every time I tried to move my arm one tiny bit. From the beginning, Linday was super kind, knowledgeable, and attentive. She went through a series of tests on the elbow and explained what we'd be working on over the following weeks to get me back to climbing safely as soon as I possibly could. After each of our sessions, I was surprised at my progress and how much better I was feeling. My appointments always started on time, and each time Lindsay would check in on the progress and answer any questions I'd have. About three sessions in, I could feel the difference in the level of pain I was experiencing, and gradually over a few more weeks, I was able to gain a full range of motion on my right arm. We added on the intensity of the workouts while being careful not to flare up the injury. Towards the end of the treatment, we worked on movements that are specific to climbing as my ultimate goal was to get back to the sport as soon as I can. I felt even stronger from all the exercises we did and gained the confidence to get back to bouldering. I'm amazed at how fast I was able to recover and highly recommend Lindsay. read more

My current injury is runner's knee - and needed to work on strengthening the muscles around my knee to resolve the issue. I worked with Radhi for approx. 8 weeks. She kept me motivated and working hard throughout the entire process. She was also incredibly knowledgeable and able to answer ALL of my questions. When I have done PT in the past, I got bored and ended early but Radhi and Team motivated me to stay the whole time and really build up strength doing a large variety of exercises in her tailor-made program specific to my injury. Facility is clean and well-maintained, and the staff are very nice. I have been to other PT facilities in NYC and this one was far superior. I had an unfortunate accident which seriously injured my left hand about a year ago. I am a dentist, so anything less than full recovery was not an option. After a successful surgery, I began to work with Elaine Crerar, MS, OTR/L at Spear Physical Therapy in their Midtown facility. I am so grateful that I was able to have her skilled oversight and care during a lengthy recovery. I had a few experiences with physical therapists in the past, which were positive, but nothing to compare to the outstanding care I received from Elaine. From my first assessment to the challenging sessions, I felt confident that I was on a path to recovery. Working with Elaine demanded my commitment to a vigorous home exercise regimen. Every session she evaluated my progress, adapted my exercises and routines as I improved, and inspired me to keep working as hard as I needed to in order to achieve my goals. The entire team at Spear is supportive and encouraging. I really felt like they cared about me every step of the way. I was encouraged to set aside the necessary time at home and in my life (in my case frequently on the subway) to realize increased strength and mobility. Elaine was with me so intimately, that I could hear her voice in my head correcting my positioning and encouraging me to work harder. She encouraged me to set small measurable goals so I could gauge my progress. When I finally had reached a point where I was discharged from her care I was worried that my progress would plateau. However, Elaine really motivated me to not give up and to keep working. I was able to realize success by working with Elaine because of her incredible skill, her incredibly warm and caring demeanor , her amazing ability to motivate and her skillful professionalism. I hope I don't need her again, but if I do, I will not hesitate to return to her care. She let me know that I can come back anytime I need to and that I will always be welcomed. Highly recommend this location for any physical therapy needs. I came in due to sudden neck pain two months ago and have been working with Radhi since then. This was my first time ever with physical therapy and did not know what to expect. However, I ended up thankful that I pursued treatment here and grateful for the care I received. During our initial session, I was immediately impressed with Radhi's knowledge and attentiveness. Over the course of my treatment, she has continued to focus on my overall health and answering all of my many questions. As I progressed, she modified the exercises and stretches based on which stage I was in. Thanks to the sessions and her guidance, I've seen a huge improvement and can't even notice any pain in that area anymore. She also provided recommendations for improving posture and avoiding similar issues in the future. Radhi's positive attitude and patience have also helped me be patient with my own healing. I also remain impressed with the rest of the staff. For two sessions, I additionally worked with Laura, another therapist. She was also conversant and focused on what would help me recover. It's clear that everyone, from the people at the front desk to those assisting the therapists, has worked towards creating a welcoming and relaxing environment. Logistics wise, it was generally easy to find appointments to accommodate my schedule. The clinic itself has a variety of equipment to assist exercises and is kept to a high cleanliness standard. I've visited this location several different times over the years and would highly recommend. Most recently I was treated by Kristen, and previously by Aaron and Brittany for different injuries. I was referred to Spear PT by my primary care doctor. I was pleasantly surprised at how many locations they had, how conveniently located they all were, and how easy it was to get an appointment, even on evenings and weekends. Mary Frances Roebuck is the physical therapist who I worked with and she was outstanding. I was really impressed at how knowledgeable she was about my physiology and how decisively (and accurately) she was able to pinpoint the issues and how to address them. She was so pleasant to work with and came up with a rehab plan that not only addressed my issue but also incorporated the work that I was doing with my personal trainer during my regular workouts. In addition to being great to work with in person, she was always accessible over email to answer any questions, help with coordinating appointments, and generally help with any treatment-related concerns. Over the course of working together, we made noticeable progress and improvement each week. After a number of weeks working together, Mary Frances had significantly reduced the discomfort I was feeling, and we decided that we had made enough progress that we wouldn't need any more in person sessions. She armed me with the exercises and knowledge to continue on my own, and has been available as a resource over email ever since. I also have to give a shout-out to the staff at Spear. From the front desk person to the insurance coordinator to the PT assistants who help with the exercises during each session, everyone was friendly, went out of their way to be helpful, and really made a potentially arduous experience a very personable and pleasant one. Because everyone was so welcoming and knew me by my first name, each visit felt more like a visit to my favorite gym than a laborious doctor's visit or physical therapy session. I have been struggling with a chronic low back/hip/knee issue and my only diagnostic was " this is the muscular chain". I was prescribed with 8 weeks of PT and I decided to go to Spear. Juan treated me and today, I am so happy to say I am at least 80% better! I went to SPEAR this past summer to work on two issues, a previous shoulder pain that was not quite sorted and a knee pain. I was very impressed with Brittany. She had an amazing understanding of the mechanics of the human body and was able to assign and tweak exercises to come up with a regiment that worked for me and fixed my issues. And she was able to explain it all very clearly. Brittany was also just a pleasure to work with. Other things I loved: Solid COVID protocols. They have options for virtual or in-person. For in-person, they run at half capacity and follow all protocols. Flexible scheduling. It can be hard to find a good time in my schedule. Brittany was flexible and accommodating. Easy to work with insurance. In the past I struggled to find a good PT in my plan. They will work with you even if they are not in plan. read more

My teenage son was a patient after breaking his thumb. Everyone at Spear was fantastic! His OT was Elaine who was kind, patient, thorough and informative. Elaine worked closely with the surgeon who set the thumb, and she followed up with emails to check on my son's progress. The front desk and billing people were great, too. All the receptionists with whom I spoke with were always friendly and helpful, and the billing folks were very patient and kind as I dealt with my crappy insurance company. The waiting area is modern (with accommodations made for social distancing in this COVID era), and the area where the therapy takes place is a decent size with good lighting. Most of the therapist if not all are licensed with great degrees, however the system here is poor. They have multiple clients per therapist and we know multi tasking never hits the right mark. This system is bad. I was injured and was being cared for a few weeks and then my insurance transfer over the therapist started rushing my care. She become more abrupt and rushed. It's also very weird when she asked me to evaluate her based on my first session which was just a chat and overall assessment of my injury. Clearly, this place wanted to get the best rating early on without the session. Lastly, they charged me for a session that THEY canceled. And did I mention they never refunded me that fee? This place is all about the cash. I would like to announce I found a place that does one to one therapy and they are more qualified to diagnose in just after a good concise assessment. I am hoping to stay with Orthology union square since they have trainers, massage therapist part from my PT! And yes I used all three in my first session last week! read more

I've been going to Spear for the past year or so for chronic neck stiffness/pain; years of sloppy posture at my computer finally caught up to me. Facilities at Spear are clean and the staff are extremely courteous. I've especially enjoyed working with Kristen, my PT. She is patient and attentive to my needs, as well as flexible enough to either turn my treatment up a notch when appropriate or scale it back if something in real life set me back temporarily. On the administrative side of things, Spear likes to stack appointments so that one PT is working with 2-3 patients at any given point in time. While this personally did not affect me, I can see some patients experiencing some difficulty with this--particularly at the beginning of their treatment, when exercises are at their most unfamiliar. Overall, I've had a great experience with Spear, and look forward to continuing to work with them. read more

I came to Spear 57th after hurting my shoulder 8-9 months prior and never getting it looked into- out of complete fear-- that I would need surgery or something was permanently destroyed because I am complete chickensh*t of all things medical(!!). I had seen Dr Klion (Manhattan Orthopedics-- also on the same floor) who was absolutely lovely (and wasn't scary at all!) and he was able to quickly diagnose what was wrong (I came in with my MRI scan). Was told I have frozen shoulder and needed PT. I was in my fearless.. "let's get this all taken care of" mode.. so made an appointment next door (so convenient) at Spear and was assigned to Vinod. PT sessions were no fun and very painful, but I knew not to expect rainbows and unicorns. Pain aside.. I absolutely loved Vinod and the ENTIRE team at Spear. Everyone was very friendly, and personable and I loved the team aspect of the sessions. I honestly dreaded each and every session but it was definitely the faces and people there that got me to continue coming back for treatment. The lively team aspect could be daunting at your first session- walking into a room where it seems like everyone (besides you) knows each other. But that quickly fades and it's such a welcoming atmosphere. I miss going actually. Sort of. hah! Scheduling appointments is very convenient and easy. I considered physical therapy an unpleasant necessity before I experienced Kristen Markoe and her team at SPEAR. They have made PT both productive and VERY enjoyable. Kristen is a rare combination of enthusiasm, discipline, good humor, and intelligence. My balance and strength have improved so much that they are probably better now than they were before the problem began (vertigo, probably due to vestibular neuritis). She's now working similar wonders on a sore foot. (It will be tempting to keep on finding new problems, just to see what she can do!) My experience earlier this year on-site at Spear on West 57th was outstanding. Every aspect of the operation, and the staff, was excellent. From reception, to assistants, to the physical therapist, the quality of service was 100%. Yes, it is true that each physical therapist is working with more than one patient at a time, but all physical therapy centers work that way. I got full attention and individualized exercises for my specific needs. My physical therapist was Brittany Feld and she was 100 % responsible and reliable and responsive.
