If there's one company that embodies corporate greed wrapped in a cloak of incompetence and…read moreindifference, it's Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E). As California's so-called "reliable" utility provider, they've built an empire on the backs of millions of customers - and when the bill comes due (literally), they treat you like a criminal for daring to ask for basic human decency. My recent saga with them is a horror story straight out of a dystopian novel, and if you're reading this, consider it a warning: PG&E doesn't just fail its customers; it actively torments them. This isn't service; it's legalized extortion, and it's high time someone dragged them into court for the rampant violations of consumer rights they're committing daily. It started with a power shutoff that hit like a sucker punch - zero warning, no courtesy call, no email, nothing. One minute, I'm flipping lights on for my family; the next, we're plunged into darkness because PG&E decided my account was fair game for their arbitrary disconnect policies. According to their own rules (filed with the California Public Utilities Commission), they should provide advance notice for non-payment disconnections, but apparently, that's just a suggestion for a company that's too busy raking in billions from rate hikes to bother with accountability. This isn't an isolated screw-up; forums are littered with stories of families left in the dark without a heads-up, from elderly folks on life support to parents scrambling for flashlights during dinner. PG&E, you're not a utility; you're a blackout bully. Desperate to avoid another outage, I tried setting up a payment plan - a lifeline they advertise for struggling customers. Denied. Flat-out ineligible, they said, with zero explanation beyond some vague eligibility criteria that feels rigged to exclude anyone who isn't a millionaire. This isn't help; it's a gatekept farce. Meanwhile, their CARE which promises 30-35% bill discounts for low-income households, turned into a six-round joke of bureaucratic rejection. I applied six times, each submission more meticulously documented than the last - income proofs, household size, the works. Every single one kicked out like trash, no real feedback, just automated denials that loop you back into the same hellish portal. How many families are they screwing over like this? Turns out, plenty: complaints pour in about CARE applications vanishing into the void, leaving people buried under unaffordable bills while PG&E pats itself on the back for "affordability programs." If this isn't predatory - dangling aid then yanking it away - I don't know what is. The CPUC needs to audit this sham yesterday. Rock bottom came when I had no choice but to whip out my credit card to restore service. After scraping together the funds, I called to process the payment and get the reconnection code - a process PG&E requires for turn-ons. Thirty minutes on hold, listening to that godawful loop of platitudes about "valuing your call," only for the line to drop like a bad breakup. No callback, no apology, just silence. I was left sweating in the dark, phone dying, wondering if my family would have lights by morning. This isn't customer service; it's sabotage. And it's not just me - BBB logs are flooded with tales of endless holds, dropped calls, and reps who couldn't care less if you're freezing or cooking dinner on a camp stove. PG&E's call centers are a black hole of inefficiency, understaffed and outsourced to indifference. Look, PG&E isn't hurting for cash - they're a $50 billion behemoth that just jacked up rates four times in 2024 alone, with another hike in January 2025, all while wildfires rage because of their shoddy infrastructure maintenance. They pay executives multimillion-dollar bonuses and shareholders fat dividends, yet they nickel-and-dime families into poverty with double-billing, phantom charges, and shutoffs that border on cruel. This company has a rap sheet longer than a CVS receipt: bankruptcy from their own negligence, billions in wildfire settlements, and a history of ignoring safety protocols that endanger lives. And still, they operate with impunity, shielded by regulators who seem more interested in golf outings than oversight. PG&E needs to be sued - class-action style, yesterday. For violating CPUC rules on notices and disconnections, for discriminatory denial of assistance programs, for fostering a culture of harassment through their "collections" tactics. File your complaints with the CPUC and BBB, join the chorus on PissedConsumer, and demand better. Until then, arm yourself: document everything, record calls, and explore solar backups because relying on these clowns is a gamble you can't afford to lose. PG&E isn't a partner in powering California; they're the villain holding the plug. Avoid if you can, revolt if you can't. Zero stars for humanity, one for keeping the grid - barely afloat.

By the late afternoon they were able to repair the pipe and we again had running water. This coming on a holiday weekend we were not so sure they'd be able to fix it in time yet they got it done and I wanted to thank them (should have done that in person) for their hard work and efforts to get us our water back on:) I work in the film industry and not for the city thus only motivated to leave this review of sincere thanks for their efforts. Yes some could say that's their job yet it was a main water line that burst via an old tree at the end of our street and a holiday (Labor Day) weekend thus the workers did not have to push so hard as they did and of which we sincerely appreciate their diligent efforts. Thank you DWP repair team on N. Pass this last Friday pre Labor Day. Thank you for your dedicated effort to get our water back on.

Although I would have preferred it cut off in the afternoon since it was my move day and it surprised me that I couldn't put the AC on for the movers, I had no choice so that was fine, whatever. I saved $ not having to pay for more electricity. However, then they charged my account a late fee for the final bill even though I still had it set up in their system to pay my bills one day prior to their due date. I went on their website and deleted my bank account information right away. Then I contacted them via email and their employee (J.) told me he would refund my money in 6 weeks. He said I would get a check in the mail. I had a bad feeling that he was not going to follow through with it and I was right, unfortunately. The refund is $2.08. It is over 4 months later and I have contacted them half a dozen times since then. They have yet to refund my two dollars. This is extremely frustrating and disappointing. I cannot believe it is taking so long. At this point they really should provide a full refund with interest! Good news. There is a page of contact emails on their website that I found today. I had been emailing their general email but now I will email their top employees until I am given my money back that they stole!
