I have to say that Dr. Oberman's practice where he currently works is the worst operation I have…read moreever experienced. Accompanying my wife for her follow up visit after her procedure which took place last year, our appointment time was completely ignored by his office. After waiting an hour without anyone contacting us, we asked the receptionist for information as to why there was such a delay. No information was provided. Returning to the waiting area wondering what to do, the doctor was leaving one of his patients on the way to his next one and I learned from him that he scheduled his patient office visits in groups for a given time and then asks them to wait for him to find the time to actually see them. Basically overbooking a time slot to conform to his treatment methods. This is totally disrespectful to his patients who expect his individual attention and treatment and ignores the specific circumstances of each patient's requirements. For anyone who reads this, please consider other optometrists if you can. Since this guy joined the ReFocus group a few years ago , his patient performance rating has plummeted and my wife and I are so disappointed, wishing that we had other options following her procedure performed by him a year ago.

I give receptionist my new insurance card but she says she is not familiar with the company so she will charge me a self-pay rate. Fine. While I wait for the doctor in the patient room, her boss, the Office Manager, comes to follow up. She tells me, 'You're not a new patient (true) and this is a routine exam. You pay for the eye test at self-pay rate but IF the doctor finds something wrong and you need further testing or treatment, we'll go through insurance." Again, fine. Doctor checks my eyes and his diagnosis is "nothing new, eyes look healthy". Everything runs smoothly and 10 minutes later nurse escorts me back to the receptionist to checkout. There, I am told I owe co-pay and that they will send to insurance which will then send me a bill. Wait, doesn't this contradict what the OM just told me a few minutes earlier? So, I turn to the OM looking puzzled and reiterate that it was a routine eye test and doctor found nothing wrong. OM's reaction was startling, as if a switch had been flipped. She starts accusing me of trying to commit a fraud. A FRAUD??? And because she was wearing a mask, she raised her voice high enough to make sure everyone at the clinic heard her. The OM then, angrily shuffles through my chart and says, "You have a pre-existing condition (same for the last 7 years) and that diagnosis goes under a different insurance code. Now, how would I have known that? But as for my pre-existing condition, YOU would have known so you clearly failed to acknowledge it earlier. And to suddenly go ballistic, accusing me of fraud? Do you even know what the word means? AWFUL.

GREAT DOCTOR & NURSE!…read more I've been going to Dr. Bookus of Soundview Medical for many years now. He's a straight shooter and very good at keeping his patients in check. His nurse, Rosa is a doll and a pleasure to be around as well as Alex, who is new to the team but equally good. If you want an honest and very thorough clinician, Dr. Bookus is your guy! I know he will figure out what is wrong and give me solutions to solve them. He's not a "hand holder" by any means but I like that method so it works for me perfectly. He expects his patients to be accountable and I like that too! A great doctor and know your in great hands with him! On one specific occasion when my Mom was in for heart surgery, I ran out of RX's and needed a refill. He refused to call it in without seeing me. That was inconvenient because I was in the hospital with Mom all day and night and couldn't really make the time but he insisted. It was a good thing because my blood pressure was so bad, I could have had a heart attack or worst...a stroke. He got me on meds immediately and if he hadn't insisted on bring me in...he would have not caught it so I get why doctors do that. But... that policy can bit a patient in the backside too and on this other occasion where I moved,I think he made a bad call. Here's why... I recently moved from CT to FL and I was due for my annual which is the time I get all my scripts for refills. I thought I had done my annual but actually it was a sick visit...my bad. When I got to FL the pharmacy said no more refills so I asked if Dr. Bookus could please extend, once we realized I didn't do the annual like previously thought. He did allow for 1 month's worth while I reestablished with another doctor. One month wasn't enough time to get a 1st time visit with a new doctor down here. I had to wait 1 1/2 months for an appoint and called everywhere. I called back and explained it to the nurses but he wasn't willing to go beyond the 1 month extension. Long story short, I went without my meds for a time which to me is unacceptable under any circumstance...even if the error was mine initially. I was on daily meds that should not have been missed and was really surprised that was his solution for me and he wasn't willing to make an exception. I didn't agree with that solution so I gave 4 instead of 5 stars. It was my fault that I didn't remember but the move was very quick and stressful and these things can happen. I just wish he would have taken our years of history into consideration and know it wasn't intentional. I think he should have allowed for two months of RX's to give me the time to set up a new patient visit. It takes 3 months to get into see Dr. Bookus as a new patient so I'm not sure why he thought I could do it in less down here. That one incident aside, he is a fantastic doctor and I miss him and his staff a lot!

So hard to talk to anyone at this office. I feel more like a number and a bank then I do a patient.read more
