I've been coming here for 2 years, have had the same insurance for 2 years. I go here 4 times a year, twice covered by insurance, twice I pay out of pocket. Never had any cavities, dental surgeries or anything more than teeth cleaning. This last time the owner of the business says I owe an additional $30 from my previous insurance paid visit. I called my insurance company, he's been purposely over billing them for things I haven't done and they finally said no. He wouldn't waive the $30, eventhough it was his issue. Now I know why there are never patients there and the office is non stop calling patients to get them to come sooner, while you wait for the staff to arrive. 9am appointment time means the doctor and hygienists get there at 9, not that you have an appointment at 9. read more

I'm a complete fraidy cat when it comes to dentists. However, Dr. Wu has put me at ease. I've been coming here for a few years and have always enjoyed wonderful service. The staff is caring and Dr. Wu is kind. The equipment is state of the art. When I needed a crown (nearly needed a root canal), I got the x-rays right there, saw them displayed on a computer monitor, discussed them with Dr. Wu, and then got to watch my crown being made. I just moved to Irvine, and know I need some dental work done, including my wisdom teeth removal. I chose this dentist because it's a couple of blocks from where I live. When I got there, everything seemed ok. Everyone was nice, and when I had called they told me the whole thing would take maybe an hour and a half. I was at the dentist office from 8:15 - 11:30 in the morning! The doctor seemed nice, and did a pretty good job with my cleaning, so I was SHOCKED when the estimate for my wisdom teeth removal was over 1300$!!!! A friend of mine had her's removed a few months back, and she has the same insurance and she paid $250.00! They told me the insurance company didn't cover the medicine to put me to sleep, and I had to pay for half of the removal costs! I called to order a copy of my X-Ray's for a second opinion, and the receptionist got very rude, and just said "Well - It's 20$ for a copy and it'll take a long time to get it" and I told her "I'm getting a second opinion, and my appointment is next week. Get it done. And I want a copy of my file" - She told me it would take a few days. If you want to be ripped off, or have the $$ to blow, then go for it. Otherwise, get a second opinion read more

I'm with Titus, and the few others that started off with positive impressions of this place only to be slapped with a huge bill - far above what was quoted - months after dental work was completed. My hubby needed a couple of fillings and a cleaning - we paid around $600 out of pocket. Then, they came back to us, six months later wanting $300 more. For a few fillings and a cleaning, $900?! Really?! Plus, Dr. Wu said I needed a filling swapped out this year - another cool $700, and when I got another opinion, the second dentist advised against it. I have been coming to Spectrum Dental Group for the past two years and I am very happy with Dr. Wu, Dr. Chen, Jacky, Lizzy, and the rest of the staff here. In the past two years, I've had regular teeth cleaning, check-ups, and two gum graft procedures here. Usually, I'm not a big fan of dental procedures but I must say that the friendliness of the staff here makes me feel at ease. People are nice, I did not have a problem with the way they treated me at all, but I got a series of treatments scheduled that seemed crazy because I go religiously to the dentist every six months and now that I had to move and change dentist, they find all this work that needs to be done??? So I decided to go get a second opinion, did not say anything to the other dentist and he found zero problems, so I started asking things that I was told from the list like deep cleaning and he said "no need at all you would actually hurt your gums if you did it and you were fine". I must admit that at an early age I dreaded the dentist and even as an adult its not exactly my favorite place to be. My boyfriend has been a patient of Dr Wu for over 6 years. I had been putting off getting my wisdom teeth removed for a couple years now. It finally got to the point were the pain was no longer ignorable. I went to see Dr. Wu's team and they got me an appointment that next day. They gave me an array of options to make the procedure comfortable and to my liking. Desperately looking for a dentist that would take me in ASAP on a Saturday, I was in dire need of a root canal. I thought it would be impossible to get in, but they scheduled me right away. The staff there is really friendly, and Dr.Wu made the visit quite comfortable. Pricing was surprisingly way better than I expected. I don't have dental insurance but it was reasonable considering. I had another root canal done before coming here, (at UCLA School of Dentistry) and I ended up spending more there. Also getting scheduled there is a drag. When I came to Dr. Wu I needed a lot of work done and the staff made me feel like family. They are all so friendly and professional. After having my fillings, braces, whitening, and wisdom teeth extraction done here, I can say with confidence that this place is exceptional. The overall experience you get here is warm, caring and professional. First of all, the staff here are kind and helpful. They're easy to talk to and very polite. They also answer all my questions and reassure me with whatever concerns I may have. The actual procedures I've had (fillings, extractions, braces, etc.) all went fairly well. I've always been a bit afraid of dentists growing up, but that feeling quickly dissipated when I came here. I rarely felt much pain at all since they numb you up well. And the physical work done was fast, to the point and professional. It's as simple as that. Pricing and payment are also straight forward. Although my insurance only partially covers dental work and barely covers ortho work, I'm still able to afford all the services. They are very thorough with their breakdowns and are nice enough to work something out if you need it (poor college student here haha). Ambience and the office itself: The office is well kept and nice looking. They have your typical stack of magazines in the waiting room, toys and kid friendly rooms for children to play in, and movies to watch in select rooms (when getting dental work done). Feel free to ask for water or take home toothbrushes/floss. Final thoughts: This place is great. Don't let a bad review or comment deter you from trying this place out. People tend to be skeptical when they see/read anything remotely negative, but there's a reason why there have been so many consistent, good reviews posted here. read more

I wrote a review a few years ago but came from their office again today and felt another shout-out was necessary. Dr. Wu and staff have been seeing our family for 11 years. We have never needed to see anyone else. We have been seen for cleanings, check-ups, orthodontics, crowns, root canals, and some cosmetic. There is nothing they can't do. We have no problem with scheduling and even in times of emergencies we have been able to be seen rapidly by Dr. Wu. My out-of-town brother-in-law had a dental emergency while visiting us last year and we had him contact this office and he was able to get treatment. Spectrum Dental Group has always been able to take care of us. From the minute you walk through the door you will know you are at the right place. It's a warm friendly atmosphere for all ages. I'm finally finished with my braces! I'm both super happy with the results and excited to have them off but also just a little sad that I won't be seeing the super friendly and nice people at Spectrum Dental as often ;) even though I rushed Dr.Wu in terms of ending my treatment in under 18 months my teeth are perfectly curved and aligned! A little throw back, when I first stepped into Spectrum Dental Group I haven't been to a dentist in YEARS... I used to go ALOT when I was younger but just hated it so much I stopped going. But I've yet to dread an appointment with Dr.Wu. Well maybe a little before the appointment to put on my braces... Haha and for my extraction.. But that's normal right? And the nurses really really always tried their very best to make sure I'm emotionally prepared and know exactly what's going on with each procedure and possible feelings I'd have after. For my 3 wisdom teeth extraction Dr.Wu suggested that I take them all out in one "operation" because it is a surgery that requires full anesthesia and he doesn't want to dose my system multiple times with such strong anesthesia (a dentist that cares about more than just dental health!) But literally I ate the anesthetic pill and one moment I was talking with my boyfriend waiting for it to kick in and the next I was home and in bed about 6 hours later! My boyfriend said I woke up after the surgery to groggily say bye to everyone and was giving him driving directions... But I honestly don't remember anything till I woke up at home haha.. So I can only say that the surgery went amaaazingly smooth (how else can I not feel anything?) which is actually pretty amazing considering I have extremely extremely large teeth in a smallish jaw and none of my wisdom teeth were actually surfacing so I'm guessing (since I really have no recollection) they had to dig pretty deep to get to the teeth and only one was extracted intact, the other two kinda had to be made into smaller pieces or something. Anyways I didn't really feel much pain that night either and was able to actually eat a noodle dinner and some soft veggies! After I had my braces removed I had some pretty bad staining (I really couldn't stay away from curry for 2 years!!! Lol) but braces came with a complementary Zoom whitening. And let me just say that I was really scared going in because of so many accounts of how sore and painful the procedure is and how people still felt the ziiing pain days after. Well I really don't have a high tolerance for pain but the nurse was so nice and soothing and careful about protecting everything I made it through 4 treatments (3 is already considered ideal) and got close to 5 or more shades brighter! (Can't tell how much more because I went a little beyond the whitest on the natural white scale.. From really really yellow teeth) literally my teeth was so yellow before I've had people tell me it actually aged my appearance! :( well I have super bright teeth now and really I think the nurse was more worried about making me comfortable and than I was uncomfortable! They gave me this amazing cream for my teeth afterwards to help grow back enamel and I was eating with no problem at all within 30 minutes of leaving their office! While I did occasionally feel a sudden ziiing that night, I was totally fine the next morning... As if I never did the treatment at all... Except my teeth were so white! Ohh one more thing I don't know if they can always do this as I usually go in during less busy weekdays for longer appointments, but several time when I'd needed longer appointments and they let me choose a movie to watching during my procedure, they let my boyfriend inside to watch with me too and I just thought it's really nice and thoughtful of them. :) and it doesn't apply for me but they have a pretty inviting looking playroom for kids! Sooo anyways.. I'd highly recommend Dr.Wu and just the whole team at spectrum dental group because they're all so professional and knowledgable about what they're doing, but most importantly they really care about their patients, takes the time to get to know them and really adds a personalized touch to whatever procedure they're doing so that it is not just a generic "best" but the best for the patient. read more

My previous dentists always had a problem numbing my teeth before working on them. I will bring this to their attention and after trying deferent stuff they still couldn't figure it out. The last thing you want is to have your dentist work on your teeth while you're feeling everything. Unfortunately I had to experience that. After explaining this to Dr.Wu he was determined to find out why. Dr.Wu took his time and after a few minutes he was able to find the problem. Doc Wu did an amazing job with my root canal and crown. I can in with pain and left with no pain. I didn't even have to take Tylenol after he preformed my root canal. I came in a week later to get my crown down and I'm amazed. It feels like my old tooth, same shape and all. In all, I took three appointments and about 2 weeks to get my tooth back to normal. Awesome experience every single time... I have been bringing my 3 year old here for over a year. I found this place in yelp and was very happy with their welcoming staff. Dr. Dorothy is very nice and friendly. The staff really goes above and beyond to make kids feel confortable, since going to the dentist can be a scary trip sometimes. They have all kinds of kids movies, reward toys, flavorful tooth paste. Place is always super clean. Out last visit was this past weekend where we had an appointment for front fillings my son had to get ... we received an early appointment since my son had to go in on an empty stomach, the procedure lasted around 30 to 45 min ... my husband and I were both in the room the whole time, my son did awesome and was not scared at all since doctor kept him distracted asking him questions abt his favorite movies and school etc .. they also had his favorite movie playing.. This visit was kind of a big deal because my son did receive anestesia, (( again he is 3 )) however they did great at hiding the ciringe. he definitely looks forward for follow up appointments.
