Some friends have had their LASIK done at the other location but I trusted them here as well. My bf and I drove down from SF for my free consultation where they checked my vision, if they were healthy, dilated my eyes. My pupils were huge, sensitive to the sun but man were things really saturated with color. Staff was very friendly & informative. I qualified for the SMILE LASIK - All-Laser, Blade-free, All-Femtosecond Laser, Painless & fast recovery & same results as LASIK. Soon after I was like alright I'm doing this & put down a $100 non refundable deposit. Scheduled an appointment in March where the procedure was $6950, -$200 for paying in cash & I had two referrals which I'm assuming is the max because I had 3 so brought it down to $5750. My parents brought me down on a Saturday where they did another vision test to make sure nothing had changed. I had not watch videos of the procedure & afterwards I'm so glad I didn't but once I knew what they did with one eye, I did start to feel a lil anxious but thank goodness they had given me a full Valium prior. My parents also got to watch & before I knew it I was done! I couldn't see comfortably & anytime I opened my eyes it would water & it was hard to do anyways so I just slept pretty much all day. They provide you with post operative prescription eyedrops to use 4x a day. After a couple of hours I started to be able to open them comfortably & I could see so much w/o my glasses! I had a follow up appointment that Monday where my bf took me & my eyes were looking good! Finally got to do my skincare & wash my hair. I needed to keep my eyelids cleaner because it was causing cloudiness with my vision. Eyes did get dry for a bit so using Preservative-Free, Artificial Tears helped. Living in California for a long time, these were not words I expected to hear and very inappropriate for the workplace let alone a "professional" clinic. The rest of my experience here has been great; amazing doctors and aides who have persistently helped me through my slough of issues, which makes this all the more unfortunate. The team has been very supportive for the past two weeks. They were listening to a lot of my questions and my concerns for the past two weeks. I am super thankful for Patrick, Annie, and Sheen from the start of my pre-op. Thank you for giving me two cute stress balls for me to squeeze during the operation. They were super helpful! I have been wearing glasses since second grade, and I woke up from a nap after I got home from recovery, and as I'm reaching out for my glasses, I'm like, wait, I don't need this anymore! So it's definitely gonna be an adjustment where I don't have to lift my glasses every time they slide down from my nose, I don't have to have that behind-the-ear pain from the frame that hooks behind my ear anymore, no more foggy glasses when I wash the dishes or when I eat hot, soupy noodles. About two years ago (2024), I noticed my vision starting to decline and contacted the office to ask about an enhancement. I was told my vision hadn't changed enough to qualify yet and that I would need to wait. Fast forward to now, and my vision has continued to worsen - especially my distance vision - to the point where it has begun affecting my ability to drive safely. When I contacted the office again, I learned that Dr. Hyver had retired, but I was reassured that the Extended Care Program is still being honored for his former patients. The process, however, has been frustrating. I was first instructed to see my regular optometrist for an updated eye exam, and then I was scheduled for additional testing at IQ Vision, which I had to pay for out of pocket. I'm not sure why these tests aren't covered under the Extended Care Program, especially since they're required to determine eligibility for an enhancement. I also didn't feel that the subjective refraction performed during my visit today accurately reflected my true prescription. At the end of the appointment, I was told that I might not qualify for an enhancement at all, or that they might only recommend treating one eye. While my left eye is noticeably worse, both eyes have declined since my original surgery, and correcting only one eye would still leave me struggling with the other. It's disappointing to have paid for additional testing without knowing whether I'll actually receive the enhancement that was a key reason I chose this practice in the first place. I sincerely hope this isn't a process where former patients are required to pay for evaluations only to be told they don't qualify. I'll update my review once I know the surgeon's final recommendation. Overall, the customer service has been good. My only negative interaction was when I was leaving after my appointment. Although the staff had already confirmed that I had paid, the front desk employee appeared skeptical and wanted to verify it again while I waited, which felt a bit uncomfortable. Overall: I'm reserving final judgment until I hear the surgeon's recommendation, but so far the experience has been a bit disappointing and costly than I expected, especially given the promises of the Extended Care Program that influenced my decision to have LASIK at Scott Hyver's practice.

My surgery was very…read moresuccessful (LASIK- wavefront) because my surgeon's superb and I did my part of the deal (wearing the goggles as instructed and using the eye drops provided). I highly recommend getting LASIK done through Kaiser Permanente in Redwood City with Dr Doug Holsclaw. The procedure is not covered by insurance so you do not need to be a member of KP to get LASIK and also the consultation is free. (Don't be shy to ask if they are offering any specials [May/June was 20% off]) The first day I went there I got my eyes mapped and they checked my prescription (they looked at the thickness of my cornea) and 1 week later I went to get my eyes mapped again (I wore contacts on the first visit so had to stop wearing contacts for about five days to get it rechecked) and did a thorough check up to make sure I am a good candidate. What I liked about KP is I get to meet and talk to the surgeon prior to deciding whether or not I want to get my eyes corrected there. Jenna (coordinator) is really sweet and she sets up all the appointments for mapping (making sure I'm a good candidate), reviewing of the contract prior to surgery (very thorough information is provided on the consultation and appointments thereafter), and also the payment plan. Dr Holsclaw is really nice and gentle; before the procedure he explained what will be done and approximately how long it will take, then during the procedure he explained to me again (eg. I am going to put clips in your eye now, we are going to cut the cornea flap, etc) I have sensitive eyes and I felt a burning sensation and was tearing after the surgery for about 3 hours then I took a 3 hour nap (total 6 hrs) when I woke up it was AMAZING because I could see everything clearly already. Also, my eyes were not red nor was it swollen. The price of LASIK done in KP is comparable to other places and all the follow up appointments are included. I went to 3 appointments prior to surgery (consultation, thorough checkup, signing the contract), then the surgery, then post operation appointment the day after, then 1 week appointment and then 1 month appointment. Jenna will call me for my 3 month appointment and I will go again for my 1 year checkup. They want to see their patients to make sure it's healing correctly and vision is steady. My friend already went to her consultation at Kaiser after hearing about my experience and wants to do LASIK too.

The prescription was spot on. The opticians were a mixed bag. The first man I worked with had some great selections in frames for distance, and a great recommendation for my reading glasses. They let me know my sunglasses would be on backorder. Not a big deal as I bought a pair of fliptops from Amazon to get by. My reading glasses and clear distance pair were ready in about 3 weeks later. The second optician on pickup was also very courteous and accurate with the adjustments which were basically none for me. The distance frames fit like a glove. Both the reading and distance were well done. So the sunglasses went by 3 weeks without any word. No big deal as I know tarriffs are affecting everyone. A month went by, but I decided to give it some extra time. Finally I texted in after seven weeks to ask if there was an update from the lab. They texted back that the sunglasses were in. Somewhat strange as I didn't get any notification that they arrived. The third optician was courteous, but decided to adjust my nose pads. This caused the sunglasses to ride high out of my comfort zone, and I decided to readjust them at home so they matched my distance pair. Second, the tint of the sunglasses was way off in opacity and didn't match my old pair. I was disappointed in that based on the price point. So now my flip tops are on the sunglasses to help cut down on the bright sunshine. Because of this I do have to knock off a couple of points. I am going to try my prescription online to see if I have better results for sunglasses later on this year.
