This is where my mom used to take our family dog, and I have been taking my fur baby here since she was a fresh puppy. The staff loves animals, and they take the time to explain what's going on with your pet and the best treatment options as well. It is a family owned business and they also make you feel like family. Recently, I came home from work to see some accidents around my house. My little girl hadn't been feeling well, but it was getting worse. So I called them hoping they could give me some advice since it was after 5 PM on a Friday. They told me that based on what I explained, they would likely recommend her going to the overnight emergency hospital because it sounded like she would need surgery posthaste. She didn't want me to bring her there because she didn't want me to be charged for the visit if they were going to send her to the emergency hospital anyways. I really appreciated that. The next day, we took her in and they helped us find a vet that would do an emergency Saturday surgery without an appointment. Ms. Cynthia even called somewhere for us to hopefully get in. We went where she said and she even called me a little while later to see if we were able to get something worked out and to check on my Peyton. Even though they were not able to help me this one time, they still helped me through my tears, and helped find someone who could do a surgery on such short notice. AND they called to follow up with how she was doing. That is top notch in my book, and I love that they care about animals and what they're doing. read more

I'm disappointed with my experience at Spencer Animal Hospital. I spent almost $300 to have my dog's eye examined and was prescribed medication that did not improve the problem. When I called two weeks later because my dog's eye still wasn't better, I was told to take my dog to an eye specialist. I understand that some conditions require specialist care, but after paying for the initial visit and trying the prescribed treatment, it was frustrating to still have no resolution. I would have appreciated clearer communication about what to expect from the medication and what the next steps would be if it didn't help. I took my lab mix here for the first time yesterday knowing something was seriously wrong and trying to pretend it wasn't. Long story short we ended up having to put our sweet boy down. It's called accountability for services rendered. So a few days ago I called the groomer at Spencer Animal Hospital and the phone goes to the vets office. I spoke with Patty and she set me up an appointment for Friday (8-15-2025) at 9am. Yesterday (8-14-2025) I got a text with drop off instructions. See below.....so up and out the door early to get them to groomers this morning I showed up at 9:10 walked in and Mendy was in complete shock that I was dropping them off. I said well Patty set my appointment for 9 she pulled up the schedule on the iPad and said no your appointment is at 12. I said no it was for 9 trust me 12 would have made me happy not to have to rush. Mendy stated leave them I will fit them in. My dogs sat there from 9:10 to 2:30 and was rushed to get the female finished because husband went to pick them up. When asked about the issue the vet fired back well your wife could have taken them and returned at 12. Really!?!?! First off why did this happen? Are appointments suggestive now days? My appointment was at 9 they should have been groomed at 9. Second was that your best response as a business owner? Absolutely not! And third where's the accountability for your mistake? The comment "I will fit them in was a complete lie." They were the last two for the day and when Ray asked Mendy about her comment to fit them in she didn't have anything to say but a mumble. I'm sorry my rant is over, but let me be clear you don't play with my babies. So as an animal lover rethink your visit to Spencer Animal Hospital they lack accountability and I'm positive my dogs stayed in the cage the entire time without water and was told they had a potty break. I was told bloodwork to diagnose a sick cat would be over $1200. I feel like they hoped I had no internet access to see what others charge.

The employees here are very compassionate and knowledgeable. I brought my dog coco in because he was experiencing swollen lymph nodes under his jaw among other symptoms. I spoke with Rachel; one of the assistants. She was able to answer many of my questions rather being dismissive. Very soon after speaking with Rachel and addressing my concerns, Dr. Avenawe came in. She took a look at my baby and knew exactly what was wrong with him. Instead of taking advantage of being able to take from my pocket and recommend every test possible. She gave me raw honest advice as to how to proceed forward. I anticipated on spending close to $1000 on this visit; I only paid for the check up. I was recommended to a clinic in the woodlands who specializes in cancer because that is what is believed to be what is wrong with my baby coco. I saved lots of money not having to take lab tests in several different locations. If she's wrong about her presumed diagnosis it's a blessing. If she's right, I didn't spend $2000 running test in 2 different locations. As unfortunate as it is, based on coco's symptoms, he has lymphoma cancer. I am very grateful I came into this location. I will recommend all my friends and family here. Thank you so much. This will always be my go to clinic going forward. I will track down Dr. Avenawe at all costs if she gets moved. We had every intention on bringing our second dog to get spayed also, and making it our vet because the tech was very sweet and kind. We will never go back especially being treated that way by who is supposed to be responsible for greeting customers and essentially the first face you see. They mis diagnosis on my dog, They told me she only live for a few more days but here it is 2 years later. Shes still alive. Also, I went back this year (2021) for her annual shots. The doctors are always so negative. They always tell me that my dog is old and to just let her go because of a growth by her uvula. Well sunset animal hospital said my dog isn't too old to have that removed and it just depends on her current health, if she's in good enough health then they can remove the growth. On the other hand Spencer animal hospital told me that once the growth gets big enough to where she can't pee anymore then just let her die. This is the second time I've been told by Spencer animal hospital to just let my dog die. Worthless place and I'll never go back or let any of my Friends or family go there. Spencer animal hospital you should be ashamed of yourself. You supposed to help animals that are sick, not just tell us to let our animals die. She and her staff made it a little easier to bare the brunt of that heart wrenching situation. I wouldn't trust my animals (ever again!) with any other Veterinary firm and was pleased to receive a personal call from Doctor Mangum yesterday after an a.m. Drop off for a work in. He was patient and answered all of my questions, after his thorough examination, even though he was the only Doctor in the office that day and very busy. I felt like he explored every avenue to access the problems we were experiencing and trusted his diagnoses'. The technicians in the office are always attentive and, according to Dr Magnum's professional opinion,"in absolute love" w my dogs! It's a good feeling to know that they are appreciated and loved when I am not there. This is the place that takes care of animals when no one is looking! They charge what is necessary and they don't keep a 12 year old dog on dialysis!! (Yes, that's why I left my last local Vet. I wish I could give them negative stars. This was my vet for 4+ years but the last year they have turned into the worst business I've ever dealt with. I have spent thousands of dollars at this vet but they would not fill my trifexis for my dog because I went to a discount shot place (Vetco at Petco) to get his shot (which I've done for the 10 years I've had him). Instead of being a normal caring business they want to rip ppl off and make me pay again to get his test with them after I just did not even 2 weeks ago. Now my poor dog has fleas because they gave me the run around for 2 weeks. This place is run by the most horrible people just trying to get a buck from someone without any regard to the fact that I've been a client for a long time. I scheduled a vet visit for 9 am last week and arrived, filled out paperwork and waited while the vet called back several people who arrived after me. At 9:30, 30 minutes after my appointment, they informed me that they had taken in several pets that did not have appointments ahead of me. Seeing as this is not an emergency clinic, I was very disappointed. I asked if they could take a quick look at the areas I was there to treat because I could not wait 2 hours for my visit and I had taken off work for this appointment. They said no. Love this place! I've taken my pet to other places before I came here, everywhere else, it seems like the workers are just there for a paycheck, could careless for you and much less your pet. At Spencer Animal, all the ladies up front are extremely nice, they all genuinely care about your pet and give great recommendations. Our senior Cocker Spaniel age 13 yrs old previously had what we called "Cocker Crud" (chronic dermatitis/ ulceration type sores all over his body).Dr. Mangum was able to establish that our dog did not have food allergies casing this condition and then he prescribed an oral medication that has completely cured our dog's "Cocker Crud". I brought in 3 big dogs at one time which was very chaotic but they rolled with it and my animals weren't stressed at all. Be very careful when taking your beloved family pet here, I have taken our dog there before to get some teeth extracted and her teeth cleaned a couple of years ago, well a couple weeks ago i noticed what looked like an ulcer on the side of her mouth so i made an appointment right away, when i arrived it was curb side because of COVID so the assistant came out and got my dog, a few minutes later the vet came out telling me there was an " Incident ", well the 2 vet techs that were holding my dog let her fall off the table, ( supposedly she nipped at them, she weighs about 12lbs) that fall resulted in a bad eye injury , note i didn't see any bite marks on the vet techs when they let me back in the exam room, I think something else happened in there but i will never know & i will not be returning there again or referring them to anyone, Very Unprofessional of them ! I have been at the vet's more than I would like to admit recently. Dr. Norton is the vet we have seen although I have always been a huge fan of Dr. Mangum and enjoyed Dr. Lovell as well. Dr. Norton dealt with an emergent situation for Miloh, who has several medical problems that complicate his care and offered reassurance as well as honest info. She closed his wounds and sent him home with meds, Upon our arrival for staple removal, she was again consulted as a couple of the staples were in difficult positions and made removal difficult. Once again, she was reassuring and efficiently removed the wayward staples. Finally, she saw our other dog, Lady for an annual exam as her colleague was ill. She AND the vet tech were amazingly patient and did not rush Lady who is skittish. They were both excellent in taking care of her. I cannot say enough good things about Spencer Animal Hospital! Everyone is competent, respectful, concerned and efficient. I would recommend to all without hesitation. read more
