The rooms are so clean, the bed so comfortable, the linens so clean, soft, and fresh. The breakfast is always an adventure in fine food and made to each guests own tastes, preferences, special dietary needs. But what I really want to write about are the holiday decorations. The house is decked out for the season with colorful lights, tastefully decorated Christmas Trees, and so many other special holiday touches through the comfortable living areas. Escape for your holiday shopping or Erie area sightseeing by staying at the Victoria Inn Bed and Breakfast. And new this year, less that a block away, is the just opened Flagship City Food Court. Featuring nine specialty food and drink vendors to please your palate with a wide variety of local and international foods this is the new "foodie" hot spot in Erie.

This hotel makes you feel like you've stepped back in time, truly amazing how much history there is in here. However it definitely needs more love and upgrades, including some critical ADA-compliant updates for their bathrooms. Additionally, I'm unsure how this venue can hold large events without any sort of dedicated parking area, I had to park about a half mile away. This would be a great place to stop if you're already walking around the area, as the bar has a good selection of drinks to choose from, and is open to the public.

Joseph and Craig are wonderful accommodating hosts and their home is beautiful. I felt welcomed, cared for, and even included (which was an unexpected surprise). Some of the best moments from my trip were simply chatting with the hosts around the home or on the screened porch. As far as amenities, I do not know of another Lily Dale guest house that offers nearly as many. Beyond the air conditioning, my room had a mini-fridge with bottled water and coffee creamer, a Keurig coffee maker with mugs and fixings, and a flat-screen TV complete with Netflix access! The beds are the most comfortable in the Dale! If that's not amazing enough, Craig put fresh flowers on my nightstand when I arrived. I was also pleased to learn that some of the guest rooms will be upgraded with private bathrooms. If it's not obvious already, I know EXACTLY where I'll be staying during my visit next season. My sister and I stayed in a room with our grandfather last night and this place, in appropriate…read moregrandpa lingo, SUCKS. If there's a red roof inn that's worse than this location, we are yet to find it. We started off the night with issues calling the desk from the highway, attempting and failing to confirm our booking through booking.com, a website that works with other locations just fine. The phone call ended up with three people on the phone trying to figure out what name our room was booked under and asking if we wanted to just make another reservation, which would put us in a position of being charged twice. When we arrived, we sat in the lobby and waited for the trying man at the front desk to help three people at once with equally as uncomplicated matters that he complicated. when we were finally helped we were informed that another $100 deposit was required for our overnight stay, which was not previously mentioned. When we finally freed the room key from the lobby's "top notch security protocols", we headed to our room, which was equally if not more disappointing. The smell of the room created a general feeling of discomfort before we could even sit down on the beds that feel like springs under a sheet. The discomfort expanded then to the bathroom where we received a warm welcome from the trash on the floor. The phone, which we tried to call the lobby with would not connect to anyone, let alone the place's own lobby. we would have opened the window to help clear our troubled mind, but the window is just a pane of glass, allowing for no airflow or relief of the stench and the headache that this place has ensued unto us. Consider this a PSA to the people of PA, or at least the city of Erie, the Red Roof Inn makes the whole state look incompetent. I genuinely felt safer and more comfortable sitting outside my room on the tailgate of my truck. Whole vibe was bad. Save yourself the disappointment.

We stayed in the downstairs/main floor bedroom, which had a bathroom, queen bed, TV, and window A/C unit. We didn't hear chickens in the morning, but we did hear the train. Norma was really nice; she shared some wine, and we brought home some fresh cut flowers, Amish sourdough starter/instructions, and Amish friendship bread. There were cats, but they didn't go into our room, and they seemed to stay outdoors a lot.

There are only two rooms that are in the house with your hosts. But there was plenty of space and privacy. For my husband and I. Norma is attentive and fun! Her communication is stellar!! You are surrounded by grape vineyards and elderberry complete with ducks, roosters and a pond on 86 acres. We walked the grounds, Norma gave us a little tour of the elderberries and they were currently harvesting them for an Apple festival. The grapes were in full blown this time of year so the delicious smell of grapes was in the air. You are close to great restaurants near by we went to a local favorite Freeport restaurant. This is close to Freeport beach which history was made by the first woman who swam from Canada to Pennsylvania. Halli Reid (ps she sat in front of me in homeroom growing up in school)Great food, casual dress. After we came back Norma gave us a piece of her homemade cake that mimics her mother's recipe.it was my birthday weekend. It was so good I asked for the recipe!! In the morning we were blown away by our fresh country breakfast of eggs (freshly gathered that morning) homemade muffins, fresh fruit (not canned) grape juice again homemade (you are on a grape vineyard farm, of course!). Pancakes, bacon, coffee, hot chocolate. The sweet conversation they sat with us and made us feel like we were family. I was moved to tears when I first walked in feeling overwhelmed by the coziness and feeling of family missed greatly. Before we left she gave me two bouquets of flowers from her garden as a birthday gift. If you need peace, family and country living for a minute this will make you feel well rested and a touch of home. You heart will be glad you stayed.

Exploring the home from the top to the bottom is a treat. Great bar area in the basement! A community with great dining, night life, museum and public library nearby. Beautiful out area with a enclosed Hot tub, and a lot of covered picnic areas. Just a neat place. Been there several times, even took over the entire land and home for a family reunion. Both the common areas and our room were beautifully appointed. The star of the show here was the great conversation, we could have talked for hours, and excellent breakfast, duck egg omelette with Béarnaise sauce and fresh baked bread. The only thing I regret is not grabbing one of their homemade chocolate chip cookies for the road. Thank you!

Sheila has her famous chocolate chip cookies out in the dining area every day. Mark is an amazing chef; yes I mean amazing! His creations look like they should be in a magazine, and the bonus is they are DELICIOUS. We actually got married here and have stayed a few times other than that. It is a working farm; there are horses, ducks, chickens, goats, pigs, etc., and everything that comes with them... Mark uses fresh duck & chicken eggs in the dishes, and the pork products are from their own pigs. We had some delicious ham and sausages, and homemade sausage gravy with yorkshire pudding. MArk made fresh waffles with pecans ground up fine added to the flour. He made an apple syrup with fall spices that I could not get enough of. Whenever we go it feels like meeting old friends, including Herman the cat! Zonk the goat is cute but ornery... Mark & Sheila are the consummate hosts. This is the place to be if you are looking for a slice of small town Americana. The Belgian Mare, Eve, had a baby too! The 7 rooms are very nicely appointed. The Hersir room overlooks the pasture to watch the horses in the morning. Breakfast is wonderful too. Margo is very accommodating for special dietary needs. The furniture in the living/common room is so soft and just sink into for a relaxing evening. The home has a beautiful front porch to enjoy the fresh air and to watch the horses as well. She also has two cats that just hang out to make it feel more like home. Marcos personal touches within the home are just so inviting. I love all the quilts she has made over the years. She also has amazing treasures from Africa and Europe to look at. I can't wait to stay again. This is the best bed and breakfast I've ever stayed at. Truly one of a kind!!!
