I recently had an amazing first time visit to Harve de Grace staying at the incredible Spencer Silver Mansion. My room (Garden Room) was spacious & super comfortable & the property itself has such a strong historic charm about it. Carol made my stay there feel like a home away from home. My wife and I visited for one night at this amazing B&B. The Spencer-Silver Mansion is like a live-in time capsule from the 1890's. The house is grand and decorated with opulent splendor. The rooms were comfortable and even affordable. Carol, our host provided us all the facts on the history of this amazing piece of Havre De Grace history. The mansion is also located walking distance from everywhere. Carol recommended an excellent restaurant for our valentine's Day dinner. We enjoyed our room and the many finely decorated sitting rooms and parlors in our wing of the mansion. And in the morning we were greeted by Lucy, the friendly feline of the manor! Carol prepared a remarkable gourmet breakfast and gave us the complete history of this anchor of Havre de Grace history! Carol personally bought, restored and furnished this property. Amazing. Never stayed at a bed and breakfast before and based my wife and I experience we new this was some place special. Home was absolutely timeless and pristine. The owner treated us more like we where family than a guest. The stay offered the customary items you would expect, with many personal touches that where delightfully unexpected. On a road trip and decided to stay there for the night. The place looks cool but my friend swore it was haunted. I didn't feel anyway about it but the owner was a bit weird. We loved how secluded and quite the town was. The local food is amazing! We were pretty excited about the breakfast; she asked what we would like to eat and what time to bring it to the door but that morning didn't. When we were checking out she didn't mention breakfast to us at all only asked if we wanted muffins to go which was strange. read more

I spent two days at the Spencer Silver Mansion last week and I can't wait to go back! My trip was partly for business but my main goal was to relax. Carol could not have been more helpful and accommodating. I have multiple sclerosis and she was so kind that she carried my bags in and out. By the time I left I felt that I had made a friend. We have lived in Havre de Grace for 22 years. One of our favorite activities is to explore our city by the bay by foot. We have always wished to stay in one of the grand bed and breakfasts on Union Avenue, so last weekend, we splurged and booked a night at the Spencer Silver Mansion. I say a room, we actually stayed in a carriage house in back of the main mansion. Secluded, yet we were able to walk to local restaurants for dinner and I was able to enjoy my morning walk downtown rather than in my neighborhood. Comfortable furnishings, jacuzzi for two, kitchenette for making morning coffee or evening cocktails--it was perfect. Carol, our hostess, provided plenty of chocolate (it was Valentine's Day weekend), cider, coffee and fixings, on top of a delicious breakfast of apple french toast, sausage, banana chocolate chip muffins, scrambled eggs with Boursin cheese, and a fresh fruit cup that was so flavorful, it defied belief. I am only sorry that it took us 22 years to discover this hidden gem. We'll be sure to come back! read more

The owner of the Spencer Silver Mansion, Carol Nemeth, has always been gracious and kind during each of my visits, which have been many over the years. The breakfasts that she serves are also very delicious. Both the rooms and Carriage House in the back of the main home are beautifully decorated with gorgeous antiques and are extremely comfortable. Spencer Silver Mansion is one of my favorite places to visit when I'm in the Havre de Grace / Baltimore area. The town is beautiful and interesting to walk through because it has been a part of our nation's history since the early 1800's. The actual mansion is beautiful as well, and my stays there are always relaxing. The owner, Carol, is so accommodating and makes a delicious breakfast, too. Stayed here after getting married. It was a gift to us from friends. Obviously we arrived late after our wedding night. There was zero hot water to take a shower. It was freezing in the room and a thin quilt on the bed was the only blanket. This place is definitely haunted or pipes are breaking because all night I heard pipes banging. Also, our friends who gifted us the room left chocolate covered strawberries and champagne in the mini fridge as a gift that was never put in our room and no note letting us know about it. We left before breakfast to catch an early flight, never saw the owner or anything. Wouldn't recommend. read more

We have stayed 2 times now. The first tome upstairs in room with a Jet Tub. Loved the place. We went back this past weekend, this time we stayed in the Carriage House. The King size bed is Great, The Tub is the Best. You have to try this place. read more

Let's start with the place is haunted. Me and my wife had identical dreams with the same images. Freaked us out. We left before breakfast we were so rattled. I have been thru spot of my life with 12 years in the military and never will I go back there. The paintings on the wall creep you out. From the beginning the back yard was covered in bird poop don't get in the hammock. House itself looked cool from the outside. I have never believed in crap like that but when you have a horrible nights sleep due to stuff like that then you talk to your wife next to you that experienced the same thing at that point it's time to go. Carol was the most amazing hostess! She made sure we had everything we needed and even built a fire for us! The breakfast was beyond yummy and was a full Course meal! My girlfriend and I stayed at the Spencer-Silver Mansion for my birthday weekend. This was the first time either of us had stayed at a B&B so we weren't really sure what to expect. From the moment we arrived, however, the owner Carol made us feel welcome and comfortable. We stayed in the IRIS room which was absolutely gorgeous. The queen sized bed was probably the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The delicious breakfast was attentively prepared and served at the time we requested. We didn't want to leave, but we will definitely return. read more

I really wanted to love this place from the Yelp reviews and website. Official web-site pictures are not what you get. The pictures add lighting and a sense that this is a well-taken-care-of mansion. Upon our arrival, the mansion appeared cold and dark, unwelcoming. There were cuts along the staircase wallpaper on our way to the bedroom. The artwork seemed very Disney's Haunted Mansionesque. We stayed in The Swan Room. The mattress was very old, stiff, and sunk in the middle. But what was worse were the great big windows were locked, so we couldn't get fresh airflow, which made the room very stuffy. Where were the people? The town seemed vacant altogether. Although we had high hopes for Spencer Silver and Havre De Grace, we ended up leaving a day early out of necessity. The gem of our stay was the neighborhood little corner French macaroon parlor. My cousin got married recently and we used the Spencer Silver Mansion to get dressed and ready. The woman, who I believe is the owner, is quite strange. I don't think she is aware of her social presence. She greeted us and told us not to move a thing. If we needed to move something, she needs to move it and we need to ask permission. Now I understand there are a lot of expensive antiques, but it felt like she was scolding us. She also hushed the hair stylist and made the bride feel as if she had been rushing her around. I can't remember her comment, but the bride was in shock with her sassy remark. Nonetheless, the mansion is historic. It's in ok condition and is said to be haunted. I didn't stay here overnight but the bride and groom did. They had no complaints with their room. Overall, my review is really just based on the owner who was a bit awkward. read more

We had a fantastic time at this gorgeous, Victorian Bed & Breakfast. Carol was an amazing host & a wonderful cook. Each morning we were treated to a wholesome, homemade breakfast (Eggs Benedict, maple sausage, home baked muffins & French toast to name a few). The whole house has been renovated with the utmost care and attention to detail (gorgeous plants, paintings, Victorian couches & chairs, bay windows, floors). The Spencer Silver Mansion is our favorite bed and breakfast anywhere. We're lucky in that we have numerous family living in assorted places between Baltimore and DC, so we've gotten to know Havre de Grace well as a great stopover on the way down or back, and if we can possibly do a night or two or three at the SSM we always do. It's SO relaxing to unwind in one of the sitting rooms or sit by the fireplace. Carol is the most awesome hostess imaginable. She is a wonderful cook and serves exactly the kind of breakfast we love to eat, keeps the cookie and chocolate plates in the hall filled and coffee and tea is always available by going down to the lovely table downstairs and making yourself one. And I always sleep like a rock when I'm there. If there ever was a 5 star B & B the Spencer Silver is it! read more

Very cute house in a great central location. Carol and Lisa took care of all of my needs, and went out of her way to make my stay enjoyable. Can not say enough great things about this beautiful Victorian B&B and it's amazing host/owner and the best eggs benedict cook ever. Carol could not have been more gracious and the home more beautiful. The grounds are lovely and so nice to sit in and watch the birds and squirrels play. My room was awesome and had all the amenities I could possibly need. The breakfast every morning was just amazing. The home is located within easy walking distance of everything from restaurants, the Chesapeake Bay and great antique shopping.
