My husband and I stayed here for four days. The staff turned themselves inside out and upside down to accommodate our party. We were there for a True North Project event. Everyone was gracious and kind and I don't have enough words to say how wonderful our day was. Thank you to the whole staff. Just a heads up the organization plans on having this event next year my husband and I are ready excited to go back. I wish I could give it 10 stars however there are only five above. read more

Not the place I would have a wedding, but it was not mine. Very good in the service except the person running the wedding lied to me. It was regarding a food that was just bad. She said it was supposed to be that way. No. The room was not worth over 200 a night and it was not clean. There was dust behind the bed an inch thick. My wife and I stayed two nights for a get away to see the sights in Havre De Grace MD. The town is beautiful and very picturesque. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Vandiver Inn. The place is very well kept and maintained. It is a charming classic Inn that takes you back in time. Our room was very clean and well furnished. The staff was very nice and helpful. We had two delicious breakfasts that you can order from a menu. The only flaw in our whole stay was a very dry cinnamon roll on our second morning at breakfast. Everything else was nearly flawless. Vandiver Inn is a beautiful B&B in Havre de Grace, MD. I drove my old Corvette from New York to Maryland to be inspected. After the inspection, I want to stay local in Maryland, have a nice dinner and find a place to relax. Vandiver Inn was my overnight choice. There's a difference between staying at a large hotel and staying at a local inn. Staying at an Inn is more personal, the owners welcome you into their home. It's something I enjoy when I travel. I find Vandiver Inn on the Main Street. I pulled around back into the parking lot. It's a large lot that can hold about 10 cars. I take my bag and walk up to the front porch and notice lots of seating outside. I know I'll be having coffee outside in the morning. Once inside the Inn, there are rooms both to the right and left. The left side has a large dining room and the right side is where I checked in. There is a sitting area along with a coffee bar. This is where breakfast was served the next day. I'm given the keys and head up to my room. My room was large and in charge! There is a nice size bathroom and walking into my room I see there is an upstairs deck with chairs? Very nice. The actual bed, I had to get up and see the mattress. The bed was so comfortable, it had a pillowtop mattress and brought me into a deep REM sleep. The next day, I took a shower, packed up my stuff and had a nice breakfast before heading back to Long Island. I'll be back in September, I'm going to stay at this hotel again. We had a very comfortable stay at the Vandiver Inn. Old world charm, our room was large and we had a king bed. Our bathroom had a large wall-in shower. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was included we had Eggs and Bacon but there were other items to choose. Parking is either in their rear lot or on the street. Since we were here before the seasonal rush we decided the street was a closer choice. read more

The "good" about staying at Vandiver inn is the proximity to good restaurants. The not so good is cleanliness. I previously let the owners know of issues, i.e., the shower, toilets were not washed and that the pillows had stains that i had to ask for brand new pillows. Not the first time. My previous stay and my last stay had the same issues. Nothing got better. It is a lovely building but staff doesn't clean the rooms adequately. I would have given 2 stars but the front desk accommodated my request to sanitize the shower/bath tub and the toilet seat. Hence 3 stars. read more

We met up with two other couples for an overnight stay at the Vandiver Inn, and we were all extremely pleased with this B&B, which consists of three lovely buildings. We all had rooms in the Historic Vandiver Mansion -- the Wolbert, the Tydings and the Rogers -- which were beautifully decorated and very comfortable. There was such attention to detail in the furnishings and decor, and everything was immaculate. The staff were so friendly and accommodating, and really made us feel at home. There were outdoor tables where we could relax and chat, and it was an easy walk to the charming historic district of Havre de Grace, where the Susquehanna River meets the Chesapeake Bay. The breakfast chef made our breakfasts to order, and they were all delicious. We all agreed it was a great choice to gather in this town and in particular to stay at the Vandiver Inn. This is a Historical gem that is maintained well as well as the grounds are very well kept, however if you are wanting polished high end, this is not for you. It is filled with beautiful antiques and charm. The location was perfect for walking to everything. The room was sizable with nice but simple bathroom attached (Layfette room). We enjoyed the hot, cook to order breakfast and the manager's reception. Good communication with calls and text reminders. We would definitely stay at the Vandiver Inn again. read more

I spent a weekend at the vandiver inn for a friends wedding (I was in the wedding party). Not only did we stay on the premises, but the weekends whole events happened here which made it even more of a convenient place to stay! Anyway- the venue is gorgeous and super functional. The staff is incredible and appear to go completely above and beyond to ensure the bride and groom have a wonderful day. It's also walking distance to some of the Havre de Grace nightlife and it's easy to find a fun running route from the inn. Everything was clean and the beds were super comfortable. Also, huge bonus, they seem to have great Covid policies. Nobody tested positive after the weekend! read more

My family went to the November 20th dinner - I wasn't able to make it (my COVID test didn't come in in time) but I was SO impressed at how they packaged up the food so nicely for me. That might now sound like that big of a deal but they typed up directions for how I could reheat it at home and even included an entire pint of vanilla ice cream for my dessert! The wife and I wanted to get away for her 40th birthday, and we thought we'd try Havre de Grace for the first time. The Vandiver showed up on Yelp, and based on the reviews, we made a reservation for a Friday night. One thing that was nice was Vandiver allowed for one-night reservations, whereas traditional B&B's will want a weekend reservation. The Vandiver Inn is actually three homes in a row, all owned and operated as a single entity. The main mansion was built in 1886 and is extremely well kept. Grounds are likewise well kept, although mid-March blah still made the facilities more winter than spring. Inside, the downstairs of the mansion consists of a main gathering/living room, a bar (by night)/breakfast bar (by morning), anda dining room, which was hosting a rehearsal dinner the Friday night of our arrival. They do promote their Inn as a wedding destination. Upstairs, 4 or 5 rooms were available; other rooms we looked at were equally impressive. The room was very clean, kept, and linens and towels were wonderful. Breakfast Saturday morning was great. The breakfast bar boasted toast/bagels, pastries/scones/danish/coffee cake, fruit cocktails, granola, cereals. The warm offering was a spinach and cheese quiche and home fries. Of course, coffee and three juices were offered. It was all good...the sign out front stated that it was open to the public for breakfast; if I lived closer, I might take them up on it. Gripes? None. You are whisked away to another time, treated to a luxury that normal life doesn't offer...to me, anyway. The price for the room was $129, a price I'd gripe at for a normal hotel...but for this? No way. The Vandiver is a unique place that I'm sure we will visit again. read more

My husband and I were married at The Vandiver Inn in February and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. As soon as guests walked in the door, they raved about the intimate setting and the romantic feel all throughout the Inn. Stained glass windows and fireplaces were all the decoration we needed for our intimate ceremony in the parlor. Literally. Not one addition was added to the parlor because it was perfect the way it was. I could go on about how the guests were served appetizers butler-style and about how the pot-roast we picked was melt-in-your-mouth tender, but what impressed us more than anything was how our coordinator, Jo, made my husband and I feel like we were the only ones in the room. During photos, she brought us scallops and mini beef wellingtons while keeping the champagne flowing. I never felt a moment of anxiety during the whole wedding planning process, even on that perfect day because the staff at Vandiver made it seamless. I serve on a review panel that stays here whenever we meet. It's so adorable,and the staff is wonderful and helpful. They even accommodate my weird requests for hot milk in the morning (because there's not a Starbucks for miles). We also have a group dinner one night and the food is the best in town! (See my other reviews for the very disappointing restaurants in town.) Great wedding destination! It was a party from beginning to end with booking all 17 rooms of the Inn's three homes. Lots of fun as we visited with all the guests. Theresa, the wedding coordinator, made the entire event seemless. The food was terrific. What a special day! One thing, because the venue is in a neighborhood, the event had to end by 9pm. No problem, everyone changed into casual clothes and walked a half mile to MacGregor's in downtown Havre de Grace where the party continued! read more

What a beautiful hotel! It was just a day trip and an overnight stay. The town of Havre de Grace itself is very quaint with tons of history. Every one we met was very nice and hospitable. Especially at the hotel. A front porch welcomes you and all the original charm is still intact. Our room was beautiful. A king-size bed, a walk-in shower and a separate claw-foot soaking tub.. which was definitely a treat. We even had a porch. Take advantage of the supper club! We met the owner personally and he and his staff we're never far away to answer questions about the town or to get something that you needed for your stay. You can relax on the porch, or in the beautiful landscaped patio area and our room actually had a porch. The lobby area has plenty of coffee, tea, and lemon water.. wifi.. And we had breakfast included in our stay which was very enjoyable. it's a beautiful place for any event especially weddings! Honestly, my stay at the Vandiver Inn was sub-par. I'll say right now that the gold standard for B&Bs is the Cider Mill House B&B in Hedgesville, WV. I will use it as a base for comparison for all B&B reviews. I stayed at the Vandiver this past weekend with my girlfriend who has stayed in the main house and had her sisters wedding there and she loved it. We were in the Donohoo room which is not in the main house (Murphy House) and the accommodations were not that impressive. The room was tastefully decorated and was nice enough but after that initial once over that is where things came apart. The carpet was a bit dingy and needed to be replaced. You could see where someone squirted some cleaning solution on the far side of the bed which discolored the carpet. The bed had one of the most uncomfortable mattresses I have ever slept on, EVER. I could feel the springs poking into my side as I slept and no matter how I tried to position myself it didn't help. The bed was also a double so that didn't help things out seeing as how there is limited space with two people in it anyway. The bathroom had toilet paper which was industrial grade sandpaper and the toilet itself was not level so you sat at an angle if you had to go, not nice. I think a plumber could fix that last issue for very cheap. Breakfast the next morning was also disappointing. After we were seated by who I think was the owner (a very nice guy I'll add) we went to the buffet which had assorted pastries, bagels and toast, fruit, coffee and juice. The pastries were standard fare, something that you would see at a Holiday Inn Express but the coffee was delicious. The main course was a French toast casserole which was decent, but not out of this world. The highlights of the Vandiver Inn are the gorgeous main house, which they call the mansion. Also, it is located in Havre De Grace which is a beautiful small town down on the water. There is a lot of stuff to do and see in the town. Maybe if we stayed in the main house it would have been different, but all I can say is my girlfriend and I were very disappointed. A Bed & Breakfast that does not have a good bed OR breakfast is not a good value or idea at $119 a night. read more

My wife and I stayed here, recently, and found the main house starting to fall into decay. It is really expensive and time consuming to keep up with all of the details of such an operation. I don't think I would be able to! It looks like it belongs in a Tennessee Williams play. You are reminded of the former glory days, but often notice the peeling paint. We had the large room with the "eco-friendly" fireplace. Fortunately, our bedding was new and superb (4 stars for the mattress) and the room was clean and had no odors. I suppose it is "shabby-chic" to compliment the peeling paint in the bathroom with an antique tub that was set up with a poorly rigged curtain, making a shower an interesting event. You don't need the fireplace, since our room was in the high 80's. I had to open a door to the exterior to let out the heat, several times that night, otherwise we would have suffocated! I finally found the hot air duct, under a table, and covered it with towels. That, and the cold air from the open door finally got the temp down so that we could sleep by about 2-3 AM. (Of course there was no thermostat in the room, since it is a very quaint old home). Despite all of this, the staff was quite friendly and helpful and all of our food was more than acceptable. We would probably go back, if we were able to get a climate controlled room. I have always loved this area, at the confluence of the Susquehanna River and the Bay, so I really enjoy when I can get down there. read more

Our friends hosted their wedding at the vandiver inn over this weekend. We were able to stay in the "mansion". It was awesome. Each room had its own unique flair and style. It is nice that each room has its own bathroom. The staff was awesome. And extremely friendly and professional. Jo was their wedding planner and was absolutely the best thing that could have happened the entire weekend. She made sure everything went smoothly. Her extreme eye for detail and her upbeat personality and professionalism out everyone's nerves at ease. I would recommend having your wedding at the vandiver for her alone. But when you add the accommodations, the rest of the staff and the grounds into it, I don't think there could have been a more perfect place for my friends wedding. We will be back! read more

Once upon a time, there was this amazing place called The Vandiver Inn where they make all your dreams come true. Finding a wedding venue wasn't easy for us. Stuart and I had two different visions of our wedding day. I grew up in NYC and Stu grew up in New Hampshire. After visiting countless of venues, we came across The Vandiver Inn. As soon as we walked into the venue, we fell in love!!! It captured the elegance we were looking for. John, Susan and Chasi made the entire wedding planning process so easy for us. They guided us through the process step by step where we never had to stress.... They made us feel like we were part of their family from the beginning. One stop shop! Besides the AMAZINGLY easy to work with staff....the one stop shop concept is BRILLIANT!! The Vandiver provided everything, tables, chairs, linens, silverware, wedding cake, etc. Along with a great preferred vendor list....we were all set! My guest had an amazing time at our wedding. They all were blown away by the staffs hospitality. Stuart and I get a kick out of all the great complements we received about the venue and the food!!! EVERYONE couldn't get enough of the food!. I have to get Susan into my kitchen and show me her moves : ) She is so talented! There is not a day that goes by where I don't think about our wedding. If you are looking for a relaxed weekend get-away, I would highly recommend Vandiver Inn in Havre de Grace. The owners, John and Susan, work really hard to provide the best accommodations and service without the high prices of other bed & breakfasts. Susan is a wonderful cook, so you are sure to enjoy breakfast. Or better yet, try one of their monthly special dinners. Our introduction to Vandiver Inn was at their Valentines Dinner in February 2006 and it was wonderful. We loved the place so much we chose it for our wedding location in 2007. We've also joined Vandiver Inn for one of their New Years celebrations and had a lot of fun. Havre de Grace is a wonderful little town to visit. There's a main street with shops and the town is right on the water so there are plenty of boating, fishing, etc. opportunities. It's only 1-1.5 hours from DC so it's a great weekend get-away. From Vandiver Inn you can walk anywhere in town. After a day of exploring HdG's shops and museums, you can come back and relax on the porch. read more

It looked like a pretty nice b&b but unfortunately they put us in the overflow house across the street. While the room was huge, it felt like we were staying at someone's apartment. It was clean and had a full kitchen, but the window ACs looked poorly maintained and it was just a weird vibe. All that aside, the woman who greeted us was really nice and the breakfast was excellent. The main house was very charming. I would just avoid the overflow house if I was trying to have a nice weekend away. Parking seemed easy on the street. read more

We stayed for one night (a Saturday) as part of a wedding party at the Vandiver. Aside from a small snafu when making our reservation a few months ago, everything about the Vandiver above-and-beyond delighted us. I'm more of a hotel kind of gal, and B&Bs sometimes freak me out a little (they can feel a little TOO personal) but all of the staff at Vandiver, from the folks who answer the phone, to the ones who checked us in, to the wedding event staff we worked with were incredible professional, helpful, and SO NICE. Our room (the Tidings Room) was bright, airy, comfortable, and well-maintained for such a historic structure. The bed was SUPER-comfortable, and we were even helped to light a fire in our room's fireplace. The staff was super-accommodating the next morning and let us keep our room for a few extra hours before checking out, since they didn't have anyone else checking in to it. The included breakfast was lovely, and coffee was available all day. I feel like the wedding could be a whole separate review, but sufficed to say that I'm a wedding photographer, so I've seen the good, the bad, the ugly. Let's just say that from start to finish, Vandiver was the best of the best. I'd be delighted if every wedding I attended, ever, were at the Vandiver. A delight from start to finish! And my boyfriend and I enjoyed Havre de Grace, where the inn is located, so much that we're hoping to make it back for a personal trip sometime next year! My wedding was here, and my husband and I have stayed here several times. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and very ready to attend to any and all our needs. The food, wedding dinner and breakfast, was unique, creative, and delicious. They also do very inexpensive, gourmet "Monday Night Suppers" that we tried while checking them out for our wedding. The rooms are beautiful, classic, and well-maintained. It's like a little mini vacation to stay at the Vandiver. I would recommend the Vandiver to anyone who would like a quaint and relaxing B&B experience. I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Vandiver for weddings- it was a unique, cool reception, with amazing staff (Chasi, the wedding planner is the wedding savior), that was not nearly as expensive as many other reception halls we looked at. read more

A really nice spot for my organizations holiday parties. The entire Inn was rented with dining under the tent outside. The first time we had our event here the tent was nice and warm. The second time we had it outside it was pretty drafty and a bit chilly. Maybe because our table was by the edge of the tent but we were rather uncomfortable. The wait staff were all polite and attentive and the bathrooms smelled fresh and were very clean. read more
