Hello, my name is Joseph Fierro an educator from New York City. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Dan Sperling and his team. Unfortunately, I was first diagnosed with cancer at a relatively young age and as you can imagine I was completely devastated. Two of the largest Cancer hospitals in the world as well as many other medical facilities explained to me that I had multiple tumors or lesions and due to my age I would have no choice but to have my prostate removed and at my age there was no way that I would have my prostate removed considering the horrifying implications that this would entail upon my social life and just my life in general. It was explained to me by multiple hospitals that due to my age being so young radiation would not be a viable option since it could lead to other forms of cancer down the road. Nevertheless, after speaking to multiple doctors a prosthamectomy or radiation was completely out of the question. So needless to say there's two things you do a lot more of when you're diagnosed with cancer, the first is pray and the other is research. It was a true miracle finding Dr. Dan Sperling and I'll never forget the first time we had spoken. He always remained optimistic and confident, two characteristics that I was desperately in need of in a doctor. He also seemed to be a true leader and pioneer with regards to his protocol in ablating prostate cancer. I've been now seeing Dr Sperling for over 11 years and I'm delighted and proud to say that after his procedure I have been cancer-free for well over 11 years and my PSA has been within the vicinity of 0.27 which he explained may fluctuate but always maintained beneath a 0.5. When I had cancer my PSA was approximately 4.7 or so and within a 2-year period spiked from 1.3 to the 4.7 mark requiring a biopsy. My advice to any man out there is not to waste your time and go somewhere else for your biopsy. It is best to go straight to Dr Sperling so he can begin to create a map of hope for your recovery. Every time I go see Dr Sperling for my follow-ups just seeing his face and the great members of his staff such as Nurse Lily, John the technician, and Samuel who were the initial members of his team that cared for me during my procedure and now all his new staff members on his team which have made a great addition, I recall as if it was yesterday, even though it was over 11 years ago the most devastating time of my life being diagnosed with cancer something we always think someone else may have but not me. That said, I have always been empathetic for others but now I've been so much more regarding this devastating disease and other diseases like it. At the same time whenever seeing Dr Sperling I am reminded of one of the most happiest moments in my life where some of the top hospitals in the world gave me no hope, Dr Sperling not only gave me hope but also provided me with what I believe to be my cure. Dr Sperling, please know I will never forget you and your team, keep spreading hope for men across our great nation, we need more doctors like you who are not only masters of their craft but genuinely good people. My name is Carey Dodson. My lovely wife, Melissa, and I live in Chelsea, Alabama. We have two beautiful daughters, two wonderful sons-in-law and four of the sweetest Granddaughters with another one on the way. For the past few years, my medical labs indicated a rising PSA topping out at 10.6. On March 10, 2023, our wellness nurse practitioner cautioned us to pay attention to that and scheduled an MRI which occurred on March 21st. The results from that revealed a PIRAD5 nodule indicating a high likelihood of disease. We went to a local urologist who scheduled a biopsy on May 11th. A week later the results were confirmed that I tested positive for prostate cancer with Gleason scores of 4+3, 3+4 (2), and 3+3 (2). The following visit with our urologist we learned that because of my age of 60, state of good health and life expectancy that I am a difficult candidate to treat. Most traditional urologists either use various forms of radiation or surgical removal. The side effects and recovery from these treatments can be lengthy and debilitating. Overtreatment of the disease is a common malady. We didn't like the options presented even though we immensely respect the professional opinions as well as the medical advances that have developed over the years such as the DaVinci robotic, targeted radiation, etc. To his professional credit, our urologist confirmed that other options existed and steered us away from a non-traditional practitioner with less than a stellar reputation. Enter the Sperling Prostate Center of Delray Beach, Florida. They specialize in a process known as Focal Laser Ablation. In layman's terms, it is an out-patient procedure that targets the tumor and leaves the rest of the gland in tact while protecting the nerve bundles that affect sexual function and urinary incontinence. They say that if you're going to be diagnosed with cancer that prostate cancer is the easiest to treat. But the side effects of the treatment are a primary concern for any male patient. After weighing all the treatment options and speaking with Dr. Michael Bedecs, a prostate cancer survivor himself, we chose to explore the alternatives at Sperling Prostate Center. After viewing the MRI results, Dr. Dan Sperling told us that I was not an ideal candidate for Focal Laser Ablation due to the location of the tumor. Instead, he recommended the Transurethral Ultrasound Ablation Procedure (TULSA PRO), another non-surgical outpatient procedure. Thanks to dear friends and colleagues who raised money for our trip, a caring and thorough case worker with our health care share plan, and a wife that functions as a benevolent pit bull, we scheduled our appointment for July 12th. I can't say enough good things about Dr. Dan Sperling, his staff (Lillian, Van, Carlene, Charly & Laura). Everyone had such empathy, professionalism, patience and determination to see that the cancer was fully treated and eradicated. Dr. Sperling met with us the day before the procedure after conducting another MRI at his clinic. He took those images and showed us how the treatment would look. At 10:30 AM on July 12th, I walked into the room where the procedure was performed on an active Multiparametric MRI (mpMRI) and somewhere around 4:00 PM was rolled into recovery. 24 hours later there is no lingering pain, and no pain medication has been taken even though 60% of the gland was ablated. (Most Focal Laser Ablations take much less but mine was a higher risk and more delicate regarding the proximity of the cancer to the urinary sphincter.) Then today (July 13th), Dr. Sperling met with us again and showed us images of the procedure itself. He took the time to explain what occurred and answered all our questions. All evidence from the procedure indicates that I'm now cancer free. It still gives me pause to consider what just happened. There are no guarantees with cancer. My next scan will be in 10 months and as with all cancer patients will be on active surveillance for recurrence. This is a repeatable process should the cancer recur. The price for focal treatment is a fraction of the cost of a Radical Prostatectomy and recovery is minimal. I'm not a doctor - just a relieved and grateful patient. My husband wrote a review on google, I decided as the wife to write one on Yelp. I for one, am very grateful to Dr. Sperling. My husband has gone from having prostrate cancer to now only having a 1 to 2 percent chance of having cancer. Dr. Sperling with his accurate and clear 3D imaging was able to see the cancer at its early stages and with focal laser ablation was able to remove that cancer without doing any damage to any of the surrounding area. We have known several people in similar circumstances who opted for the traditional methods of removal from local Dr.'s with poor outcomes. The process of going in blind and taking samples is not accurate. You will be told that the biopsy does not quarente that they caught the cancer. It depends if they took a sample where the cancer grows. In addition, this procedure puts the patient at risk for further infections. There is no comparison between my husbands recovery and the recovery of people we know who opted for the traditional much more invasive treatments. My husband is now healthy and happy. After being diagnosed with prostate cancer at 54 years old, and faced with the two options of radiation and radical prostatectomy, I was at my wit's end deciding which of the two would have the least side effects. I was told it is literally a "roll of the dice" and no one could predict what the side effects would be after treatment. Then one Sunday morning I did a simple Google search for alternative prostate cancer treatments and Dr. Sperling and Focal Laser Ablation came up immediately! I could not believe what I was reading, I could not wait until the next day to call and see if I was a candidate. To say that I am disappointed in The Sperling Prostrate Center is an understatement!! My husband was diagnosed with moderate Prostrate cancer that was localized inside his Prostrate...Since he did not want to lose his Prostrate and all the other functions that go with that loss we contacted The Sperling Prostrate Center in South Florida..... My husband had his VERY Painful 1.5 hour Procedure done on October 13th... It would have been nice had they at least given him the option to be put to sleep...My husband told me that it was unbearable! Not only was he Not Told Beforehand (During the initial intake process) that he was going to have to wear a Catheter for a week, to add insult to injury the Testamonials posted to The Sperling Clinic site were like " I came home & had sex with my wife that night and ran 6 miles the next day" We feel completely Deceived!!! We should have known this was too good to be true!! Not much aftercare instructions were given other than "Take your Antibiotics for a couple of weeks and your Flomax until You take your own Catheter out after a week" To make a long story short my husband ended up in the ER today with 1200 cc"s of urine in his bladder...The normal is about 3-400 before you feel the urge to pee... He has been in excruciating pain for the entire week that he has been home with Not Much if Any help from The Sperling Prostate Center... I was recently diagnosed with a potentially cancerous growth on my prostate by my urologist at Cleveland Clinic. She urged me to have a biopsy done as soon as possible and, after doing some research on the various types of prostate biopsy available, I opted to have Dr. Sperling and his team perform a real time, MRI guided biopsy at his state of the art facility in Delray Beach. While the procedure was, necessarily, somewhat uncomfortable, Dr. Sperling and his team were absolutely terrific throughout the entire process. They were patient, caring, knowledgeable, and thorough. The facility and equipment are immaculately clean. Once the procedure was done, they kept me under observation until I felt well enough to drive home. Happily, the results of the biopsy were negative so the plan for now is to have periodic PSA testing and MRI follow up over the course of the next several months in order to monitor the situation. I'm 69 yrs old as of last week. I was diagnosed Feb 2021 with an elevated PSA of 8.8 After a few months of research, conversations with the urology department at my local hospital, the Mayo Clinic, and several professionals who use light and lasers to remove cancerous lesions. I decided to travel to the Sperling Center for an MRI guided biopsy. That was in July, it was determined that I had Gleason 7 lesion but it was contained in the prostate making me eligible for ablation. The facility was immaculate, professional and the staff was friendly and helpful. I returned the end of October for the laser ablation. A very painless procedure, with the exception of the cost ha ha. But a small price to pay to not have my prostate removed or radiated and to maintain a healthy sex life and no leaking urine issues. I waited to write this review until I got a blood test with PSA results. I was glad I did not have to wait for a week or more as in other places. Dr. Sperling and his team have been nothing but awesome and professional. And I highly recommend them to you and everyone. I was treated at their facility in May of 2017 for prostate cancer and I wholeheartedly recommend this Doctor and his team. Again, nothing but professionals and I had the Focal Laser Ablation done. If you want to read on, here is some backstory: I was diagnosed with Prostate cancer in February of 2017, right before I turned 55. I wasn't given an MRI to view the possibility of cancer, but a manual prostate biopsy, which I never want to do again. It wasn't fun. I live on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. Been here thirty years. My doctor referred me to the Urologist after my PSA numbers were higher than the norm. The Urologist, who after administering the biopsy and it coming back "positive," simple stated "we should remove the prostate." Basically I was given the option of a radiation treatment, which he didn't recommend, nor did I want, or complete removal. Which I didn't want because it can come with a few complications. I was told by him that removal was standard, that is the prescribed course and that there are great doctors in Honolulu who do this and he can refer me to them to set up an appointment. He also stated that they use "robotics" today and its much more precise, thus limiting the potential nerve damage or other concerns that come along with surgical removal of the prostate. But no guarantees there would not be problems. He also told me that I would "see many different treatments on the internet" but they are not proven and I should just stick to removal and be done with it. Of course I did my research and there were other viable options out there that I began to explore, other than removal and all of the problems that can come with it. I'm not against removal if that is the only course based on your condition, but mine was contained in the prostate. While I was researching all the different treatments, I received a call from a friend who had gone to Dr. Sperling and had the Focal Laser Ablation done that lasered/burned out the cancer tissue in his prostate. He was at one year and no sign of cancer. So, I researched the procedure, Dr. Sperling as well and then I called their office. I was contacted by them, they were very personable, informative and they asked me to send my medical records pertaining to to the cancer thus far. They told me the Dr. would review them, then they would set up a phone appointment. Roughly about a week or less later, I spoke directly with Dr. Sperling. He was very thorough, friendly, knowledgeable and answered any and all questions I had. I took the next available appointment in May of 2017. Although my insurance didn't cover this procedure, I did what I had to do, to get the funds and I don't regret it. We can pay off loans, but we cannot pay off cancer. The Mayo clinic who I contacted as well, charged basically the same fee as the Sperling Center, so I set the date and went. Honestly, Dr. Sperling's reputation in the field was enough to choose him over some other clinics who are doing the procedure. Delray Beach, Florida is just an added extra. Nice location if you have to go through something like this. I stayed down the block at the Fairfield inn. Not far up the block is the prostate center, not far down the block are shops and great restaurants. (not that you are there for that, but all that you need is close by). Delray is a nice place, I flew into Ft. Lauderdale, rented a car, drove down by myself and drove back one day after the procedure by myself, with a catheter and it wasn't a big problem. Just a little uncomfortable. I was offered a wheelchair, but I walked. Take the damn wheel chair. Dr. Sperling was great, detailed, informative and took his time to make sure I understood all things and answered all my questions. He is a good Doc. I have to say one more time, that the Staff there was awesome and professional, as were the other patients I ran into while there. So many of them were coming back for follow ups and were encouraging me and had great reports. I have no regrets and many of the guys I spoke to felt the same way: thankful! Sadly, not too many people are aware of this procedure, my doctor and other doctors included. But it is time tested and I believe Dr. Sperling has done over one thousand procedures thus far. I went back for my six month follow up and all clear. Another PSA in six months and one more follow up in a year. The procedure was not bad at all, not painful and other than the catheter, which is what it is and takes a little bit getting use to. You are able to function normally otherwise, but just a little tough walking around with the catheter. Dr. Sperling and his center is something to seriously consider. February 18, 2019, two days after my 58 birthday, I received the results of my prostate biopsy, prostate cancer with Gleason 6 and 7. I went to my Urologist as well as the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale AZ and MD Anderson in Gilbert AZ and the advice from all three was total prostatectomy. A little history on myself, I am an active, fit (11% body fat), and sexually active man. I was shocked when I was told because of my health that a total prostatectomy was advisable, when to me, because of my health, and that of my wife of 32 years who is also fit and beautiful, I did not want the potential side effects of a total prostatectomy. We were extremely fortunate that a friend of a friend had seen Dr. Sperling for laser ablation of prostate cancer with great success. Upon contacting the office of the Sperling Prostate Institute, I was greeted by a friendly, encouraging voice who gave me the information to email my MRI and biopsy result to. I was please to hear that after reviewing my test results that Dr. Sperling felt he could successfully ablate the cancer. This was particularly encouraging since I had also contacted a center in Chicago that also does MRI guided laser ablation and they said they would not perform the procedure on my cancer. I spoke to Dr. Sperling twice on the phone prior to making arrangements, he answered all of my questions, some of them more than once. I never felt rushed or that my questions were irrelevant. Booking appointments was easy with the staff at the Sperling Prostate Center, they also gave advice on where to stay and traveling to and from the airport. On the day we were to arrive and have the MRI at the Sperling Prostate Center, we had the day of flying from hell with American Airlines (I hate AA). We landed at the Fort Lauderdale airport 30 minutes after my 5:00 pm appointment. The staff waited for us and did the MRI, we did not get out of there until 11:00 pm, the staff never seemed irritated with having to stay late for us. The next day we met with Dr. Sperling who thoroughly described the MRI films on a large screen tv so we could clearly see what he was showing us. We were given the option to proceed which I did. I was in and out of it during the procedure, they kept me comfortable, but I was able to walk to and from the MRI machine. Once the procedure was done I went back to the hotel and rested. We stayed in town for four more days where we walked around, went to the beach (not in the water of course). I flew home with the catheter which wasn't bad, I was used to it by then. After a week I removed the catheter by myself in the shower, following the directions the nurses provided before I left. I took about a month off from exercise as was recommended. I am three months out, my fitness is back to where it was before, I am back riding off road motorcycles, urination is back to normal and sexual function is about 90% and getting better. I am so grateful that I found out about the Sperling Prostate Center and I am extremely grateful for Dr. Sperling and the incredible staff at the Sperling Prostate Center. read more

Sperling Prostate Center is a first class facility with top staff and procedures. My prostate was laser ablated six days ago with minimal side effects, ie. I walked out 5 hours later feeling the same as when I walked in, though a little woozy for the next few hours. Suggestions: 1. Call the Sperling Prostate Center directly. I posted a message on their site on a Saturday, thinking to save time, and got lost in the system for a week of emails and calls with the wrong people. 2. Ask for ALL the paperwork and instructions when you book the procedure (a) so that you know exactly what's going to happen and (b) can prepare for the days before and after procedure. 3. The 500ml urinary catheter bag was too small (up four times the first night to empty); they did not have the larger 1000ml bag, or extension to wear on my calf, but did find a local medical supply house where I could buy the bag and extension; then back to the clinic to change to new bag and location. Since it's important to stay hydrated, which creates more urine, I would go for a 1250ml bag next time (if it's made) to last more comfortably through the night -- you can always empty (lighten) before it's full! And not having to change from day bag to larger night bag, and then back again in the morning (ie. twice a day) is a great relief. read more

After my wife and I carefully researched all possibilities in the USA ... that would provide the best course of action for me regarding my prostate health ... we both agreed that connecting with Dr Dan Sperling, M.D., D.A.B.R. and going to his facility in Delray Beach, FL ... was the only way to go. His methodology is a very unique, and "fresh" approach ... very different than most Urologists. He and his staff are very professional and supportive. We made our trip from MD to FL so we could be in his main office on June 25th and 26th (2018). Everything went smoothly. I cannot imagine doing this any other way or with any other Doctor. What a horrible experience I went through. I called these people about 3 weeks ago and got a hold of the nurse. She said that she was busy and she would call me back in an hour. She never did. I called back later that day and said I would be home all day waiting for a call. They never called back. A few days later I went on to their website and filled out the online form so that someone would get back to me. A week went by and I heard nothing. So I decided to show up at their door. I was able to speak to the Patient Educator. She said Dr. Sperling was out of town and would be back the following Monday.She said we will call you at the beginning of next week when he returns and he will see you by the end of this week. AGAIN...NO CALL. If I have to keep pursuing them and they don't return calls why would I have them treat me? read more

My annual physical showed a high PSA level. After reviewing a MRI report, my local doctor told me it was very likely that I had prostate cancer. I decided to do some research before having a biopsy. I was surprised to learn that doctors often miss cancer with the old way of doing biopsies. Without the benefit of live MRI images during the biopsy procedure, it is very easy to biopsy the wrong location. I am certain that Dr. Sperling offers the most sophisticated and technologically advanced prostate diagnosis and treatment program in the country. In addition, he and his staff spent a lot of time with me before the biopsy and answered all my questions. Fortunately, the results were favorable. All the lesions were benign. Since the biopsy was done with the benefit of BlueLaser 3T MRI, I can say with confidence that I do not have cancer. Dr. Sperling will be monitoring my prostate going forward with annual MRI's. The fear of learning I may have prostate cancer caused me to begin researching the internet feverishly for getting up to date information on the newest, latest technology on the subject. Dr. Dan Sperling offered up what seemed to be the most logical, common sense solution to verifying with a high resolution 3T guided MRI biopsy. I live 6 hours from his clinic by plane so my decision to travel that distance was a big commitment of time and money. I wasn't an easy sell. However, I was so impressed with the Patient Educator RN Jackie that my skepticism diminished quickly. She was so skilled in her knowledge of the biopsy process and Focal Laser Ablation treatment if needed, that she immediately made me feel taken care of. The facility was first class, clean and comfortable. The staff was wonderful, especially the nursing staff of whom I spent most of my time. Dr Sperling answered my questions and personally did the procedure along with the assistance of his MRI technician. The procedure took about 45 minutes. There was no down time or surprises. I couldn't be more pleased and I would say to anyone who really wants to get accurate results that Sperling Prostate Center is the best. read more
