We have had multiple challenges with scheduling, you have to give a credit card to even make an appointment, and there is little concern for customer experience. It's frustrating to have to plan weeks ahead of time and then have schedules change last minute, she will charge you anyway if you are even 10 minutes late. Now the scheduling tool is not working and there has been no effort to help us make an appointment. My teen daughter keeps wanting to go to this place, I guess they have the jewelry she likes, and I really wish she would find a more user friendly business. read more

But after 3 weeks nothing healed, after 3 months nothing healed and I got a piercing bump! I had called them, no one picked up so I left a message. There was so reply. As we arrived at the front, some older woman (may be the owner idk) gave us a NASTY attitude, didn't say hello just snapped: We're closed! We're closed. You need an appointment. She must have realized that she was snappy because she tried to explain we need an appointment to just walk in and could do it online. So god forbid you show up without one or you'll get treated like crap. Also found out that just to see their jewelry you had to make an appointment AND deposit $10. A bit ridiculous to me. Never going back and never recommending this place. They could have the best piercer in NC, I don't care. I wouldn't want to be treated like that again. I didn't get my piercing done here, but I came to buy some jewelry. The inventory is PHENOMENAL omg & was worth the trip. I called right when they opened since I had my nose piercing fall out and needed something ASAP. They took great care of me & will come here for any future piercings. As soon as I arrived she took my temperature and I could tell it's very clean/health conscious... which I get it. Some reviews were mad about that, but all you have to do is follow directions?? Come with a mask, take temp and you're good to go. After that I was able to take my mask off and see which pieces I wanted. I wish I would've taken pictures of the inventory, but I was rushing since I had plans but 10/10 would recommend! I spent almost $300 on different pieces because they were that pretty. I also only do real gold! I also told the guy I was having trouble changing jewelry out and he gave me a little accessory that will help in the future. I really appreciate them being helpful, even if I didn't get my original piercing done here. It's by appointment only, which is only because they want to be able to really help each customer. I was able to look at different cases of jewelry with 2 people helping me/checking prices. As I was finishing up, someone came in for their appointment and I could tell how they were treating her, they care about individual customers and want what's best. i'm sad to write this because she seems to have so many happy clients but i had went to her twice and both times felt uneasy and upset. i got a septum here when i was 15 and it was my first facial piercing. i expressed concern about it being crooked and she called me rude instead of reassuring me about what's now in the center of my face. the 2nd time is what made me want to write this review. i came here for a microdermal. she was nice and i felt more at ease with her this time. i saw she pulled out a biopsy punch and i casually asked about what i saw online (i saw that needles are better than biopsy punch, less scaring) and just kinda expected her to maybe explain how this is better or how it's okay. no, she said sarcastically "does the internet have 25 years of experience?" and then didn't address my concern. i mean, it's going on my face... and yes the internet has been around since 1990s and all sorts of people with all levels of experience use it after piercing was done, it was crooked. i told her, and she responded so weirdly, sarcastic like "yeah yeah okay let me take a look *eyeroll*" and wow to her surprise it WAS crooked. she "adjusted" it and it looked more flush to the skin, but still slightly crooked. good enough for me, didn't really wanna redo it cause it was PAINFUL! but i didn't ask for a redo either nor did she offer one 3 days later after following all her aftercare instructions the micro dermal anchor starts to show again, in the SAME way it was right after she pierced it. facing the same way, crooked, coming out towards my face. it reverted back to how it was right after she pierced it. i saw a piercer who said if it looked like this after piercing, it wasn't initially pierced deep enough and couldn't be "adjusted" into deeper tissue so it rejected. i sent her an email explaining all of this, how i had the dermal for 3 days before it started to revert to how she pierced it. i even sent her photos where the post is very visible. it doesn't make sense for it to reject that much after 10 days. it simply went back to its original state. she responds "sorry you believe you're having an issue with your piercing" and went on about how they're not always successful. she completely ignored that i told her she literally pierced it like this, it looked EXACTLY like this right after she pierced it! and then she asked me to come in for a consult but the attitude i've received and the defensiveness just turned me off and it was the last straw saying i "believe" something is wrong with it when the piercing is halfway out at this point. it was just too painful for me to want to risk it again, and also it was EXPENSIVE and to receive this sort of response is just so bizarre when i'm spending over $100 on a piercing, there was no accountability and i highly doubt she'd offer to redo it since her response to my email was the "microdermals aren't always successful" line. i respond with something like "there IS an issue, I don't "believe" there is one." and she just said "again:" and copy pasted her last email.. just rude yes i know that piercings reject, and i know that microdermals are temporary, but when it reverts to how it was ORIGINALLY pierced then i know it's not rejecting it just went back to how it was pierced. there was just so much defensiveness both times i went here and it's just too much money to not be satisfied and talked to this way. she really needs to learn how to take critiques and work with concerns because she always shoots down questions as if they're some sort of personal attack. i just wanted her to offer to redo my piercing and not just ignore the fact she pierced my microdermal too shallow. i feel belittled and nervous to be around her as she is always on edge about what anyone says. you can't have this attitude when you're piercing peoples bodies, they have a right to ask questions and be concerned especially when they pay so much. UPDATE: she contacted my parent, not me, who had driven me to get my piercing done, saying i'm a repeat customer and that she "attempted" to reach a resolution. no, saying i "believe" i'm having an issue after being explained that it's your fault and then being petty and copy pasting things when i stand up for myself is absolutely not a resolution. i am an adult. contacting my mommy isn't going to help, sorry. a resolution is working with me to help fix the issue which should have been done as soon as i said i was unhappy and provided images and background info. nope, got defensiveness and pettiness after spending $100. i would have continued to come here had she actually attempted. came twice cause i didn't mind the rudeness because i just want the piercing not the relationship. anyway now ive discovered she has a bad attitude AND gave me a bad piercing, and didn't make an effort to fix it. any effort given was done with rudeness as if i'm making everything up. i know she remembers that it was crooked. ugh read more

I was aware of the cancelation policy but did reach out to request an exception and stated I was aware of the policy . I could also understand if the answer was no but I received quite a snippy response that was really not necessary from the owner. It was a turn off. I can't say enough about Alexia! I had to have an unplanned surgical procedure and had to have all of my jewelry removed. Of course the greatest piercer of all times was booked up and I couldn't book online. I gave her a call and left a message letting her know what I needed and she directly replied in a text telling me to come in the next day. Alexia removed my jewelry, put in spacers to keep my piercings from closing, kept my jewelry to clean and sterilize so that it would be ready to put back in when I came back. Alexia even took the time to make my appointment to ensure that I would be able to get back in a timely manner to put my jewelry back in. Every experience that I've had with her has been top notch. She is the ONLY one that I would trust and allow to pierce me because she takes the time to listen to what you want and tell you what will or won't work and why. Her place of business is always clean and I can appreciate the fact that she is appointment only so that your experience with her is yours only. If you want any kind of piercing, Alexia is your girl. Nowhere on the site nor in the texts exchanged did they state identification for my almost 16 y.o. daughter would be needed. Apparently an email was sent to me 4.5 hours before the appointment and according to Alexia it's my fault for not fixating on my email with anticipation I may hear from them prior to the appointment. While speaking to Alexia, she dismissed herself to assist walk-in customers, even though I had paid the deposit for 30 minutes of her precious time. When asked if it would be possible to reschedule and use the deposit to secure that time and date, she curtly replied "No." and walked away. So - if you are looking to receive no necessary legal information prior to your appointment, be treated less than as soon as you walk in, and enjoy people being snippy and rude, this is the place to go. read more

I have had 6 piercings done by Alexia and come in a few times to purchase jewelry and I have never ever been short of amazed by the compassion & professionalism at Spica! The staff at the front desk are so kind and helpful. The overall environment at the studio is very zen & inviting. I have never ever met a piercer as knowledgeable and incredible as Alexia. I have also never had an issue with a piercing healing after having it done here. I went to my appointment alone without any prior experience to facial piercings which made it a little scary, but Alexia's approach relaxed me and I felt SO comfortable allowing her to come at my face with a large needle. I live on the west coast and was in town for a few weeks.I came here to change my dermal piercing out as I do once a year. I made an appointment( appointments are highly recommended as there is always a wait.) The receptionist welcomed me and signed me in. She was very friendly and begin to help me pick out my jewelry for my dermal. My dermal is in my chest and I wanted something that was cute but didn't snag on clothes. She picked out a beautiful peace and assured me that the jewelry wouldn't get caught or snagged. Two weeks after getting it, the dermal got snagged on my sweater and when I came out of my clothes I noticed my dermal was missing. I located it and put it in a bag and drove straight to this place to have it put back in. I was told that they were too busy and that I would have to be placed on a standby list to see if I could be taken before they closed at 8pm. I told the receptionist what happened and that I was not a resident and was only in town for a few more hours. I received a call from them @ 7:30pm and was not able to go due to my departing flight time. I wanted to love this place but I am disappointed by the service I received. read more

I tried to make an appointment to replace my body jewelry for the next couple of weeks. They charge a NON-REFUNDABLE $10 service fee if your piercing wasn't from them. I accidently made an appointment for the wrong date. Within 5 minutes! I realized it and canceled. At first they refused to refund my $10, then when they capitulated, they charged me $2 and only returned $8! Bad customer relations! Cheap! I will not ever go there. I wanted to love Spica. I had my first experience here in September of 2022, and it was a great one. Alexia was very professional and she had my septum pierced before I could blink. Because I had such a good experience, when I decided I wanted to get my nipples pierced, I obviously chose Spica. Upon arriving, I was greeted again with professional kindness. I brought a friend with me to get her septum pierced. My right nipple was pierced with no issues. My friend later told me that it looked like the piercing had gone slightly through my areola, but that wasn't a concern at the time (it was later). While piercing my left nipple, Alexia's aim was a bit off. The piercing was clearly crooked. She was kind and apologetic and instantly corrected her mistake, so I didn't think much of it (I hope that she has no issues piercing anyone else's body, as the pain of having to have a fresh piercing removed from my nipple and redone immediately was akin to torture). While I was upset and in shock that my nipple had to be repierced, human error is a real thing and Alexia acknowledged that, so I remained calm and respectful. After my nipples were done, Alexia pierced my friend's septum off center. While it isn't too noticeable, I hope you consider that while making your next appointment. While in the shop, I also had Alexia help me put in a new septum ring. She assisted me, and I had no issues. The next morning after leaving the shop though, the new piercing jewelry popped (yes, popped) out of my nose and fell down the sink while I was washing my face. I hadn't even touched it. Still, Lexi gave me new jewelry at no cost, which was very considerate. Even through all of this, I still was prepared to leave a solid 3-4 star review of the shop, until I began to have issues with my piercings. After a week with my new nipple piercings, the pin on my left piercing came loose. I tried to fix it at home, but due to my own human error, I didn't do it right. The pin fell out 3 or so times in the days after before eventually, as I was reinserting it again, the jewelry broke inside of the bar, meaning that if it was shifted, it could fall out. I made an appointment to go in and get replacement jewelry, but Alexia was sick (she was still in the studio), so she had one of her fellow employees help me. They didn't insert it for me, but I was just glad to have new jewelry. When I returned home, though, the end of the previous pin was still inside of the bar and I couldn't put in the new one. I called the store, but I got no response. I emailed and yet again got no response. The next day, I waited until around 1:30pm to see if Alexia would email me back. She didn't. So, I called the studio and she quickly picked up the phone. I told her my name and began to tell her the issue I had, and she cut me off immediately before I could explain. She sharply told me she'd read my email and seen what the issue was, and told me to come in and it would be fixed. When I went in, she had her coworker, Jamie, help me. He did, but he began questioning what I was doing to make the pin fall out, which is extremely unprofessional. Still, I thanked them and left. When I got home, I realized that they had given me jewelry of two different lengths. I emailed back, and Lexi responded sharply and told me to call a week later so I could been seen by Jamie, not her. Fed up with their shop and beginning to develop a bump on my right nipple, I went to another piercing place in Chapel Hill. They explained to me that the cause of that bump was the bit of the piercing that went through the areola. As a result, my choices were either leave it and permanently have a small bump on the side of my nipple, or remove my piercings. Sadly, I chose to remove them. I wasted around $180 on my nipple piercings, all as a result of Spica's mistakes. If you want a piercer who will own up to their own mistakes, Spica is not the place for you. Came for a third lobe on October 30, 2020. Ashley pierced me. $50 for the service, jewelry sold separately. Perfect piercing experience. From a professional and personal standpoint, this is the best piercing experience I've had. Lexi is extremely conscientious about health and safety during this time. Not only is everyone in the studio masked, it's appointments-only and your appointment slot includes studio disinfecting/wipe-down time. They also take your temperature before moving forward with the appointment. I really appreciate these measures, as I live with an immunocompromised person and truly can't be too safe. The piercing went without a hitch. Ashley is obviously an experienced and confident piercer, she knows exactly what she's doing. She took the time to explain aftercare in detail, the posts are sterilized before being put in, it's a relaxing and beautiful space with natural lighting, and other reviews mention this but it bears repeating -- a first-rate, almost exhaustive jewelry selection...Lexi selects & orders all the jewelry herself and her taste is superb. In addition to traditional opals/domes/spikes/etc. she offers tops/ends in near every shape and metal you could possibly want. I had no trouble finding something I didn't just like but loved. In the past, I've usually settled for something simple since the piercing won't be switched out for 6 months. No need to settle here. Pricing is fair & competitive, the (threadless, titanium) labrets are $15 each. Last but not least, I'm very gratified to be able to support a small, female-owned-and-operated local business, especially in these difficult times.
