Morton's is a gourmet market in South Sarasota that has wonderful meals to go, fruit, wine, flowers, fish, baked goods etc beautifully displayed. It seems to be always hopping and the employees are always helpful if asked. We love the staff ! It warms our hearts to see many of the same staff members from year to year. Frequently stop in to pick up "gourmet to go" dinners, then walk down every aisle and hang around the bakery. The food is terrific, the ambience, upbeat. I wanted to change my review of Morton's to a very positive one. After staying away for one year my wife and I decided to return and see if things have improved! Behold the business has improved! My wife had gone up to the butcher counter and ordered without a hassle one pound of Florida pink shrimp, what a pleasant experience. I loved loved loved Mortons on Osprey until i spotted a big old fly in the hot food case. Granted, it was summer, flies are flying around, but it just put me off all places with unpackaged food for months. I still consider it a cut above area stores. I love this place. I have always found the quality to be exceptional and consistent. It's busy and lots of people have jobs to do there, but I've never not had them stop to help me no matter what they were doing. Several days a week I purchase my meals for the week. The cooks though busy are always delightful and will explain the dishes if need be. When you see the size of the serving, it's really two meals for most of us. I find it a good value. Parking sometimes a little tough, but isn't it almost every place. The pastries are out of this world. For me, it's a five star rating. Just a sidenote, this company is amazingly generous with our local charities and events. Keep up the good work Morton family. read more

Another must-visit place for me when I come back to Venice/Sarosota. This reminds me of the gourmet store Di Brunos in Philadelphia but bigger! I had an absolute field day in their gourmet soda selection. Huckleberry soda, blueberry soda, and a bunch of other cane sugar varieties to make be feel less horrible about drinking compared to their high fructose counterparts. I really liked the yuzu soda! Not sure of its high fructose if not but I could care less... I'm on PTO! Since we are vacationing, we couldn't get too much stuff, which pained me. But since we are looking into buying a vacation home, Morton will definitely be an absolute go to! Regardless, Morton's has been bookmarked as a must-go-to when we return to Venice. I love going to Morton's to mix up my shopping experience. This is not the big retail grocery store, but a small store that offers specialty products. When I go I seem to find interesting products to try. Their bakery has pastries, breads, and desserts to droll over. Their deli section has items you can order by the pound, a wall of salads, prepared dinners, warm foods (rotisserie chicken, pizza, meatloaf, etc.), and a salad bar. Those are my two favorite departments, but they have all the standard section: meat & seafood, wine, cheese, etc.). Expect to pay a premium at Morton's, but also expect quality and care in their prepared foods & grocery. read more

Cakes and pies that are out of this world. You can buy the whole thing or just a slice. The meat counter offers some of the best cuts of meat that look very fresh. They have a prepared food counter where you can get everything from pizzas to chicken and crab cakes. They have a large selection of cheeses and wines. Many unique items and specialty items. They also have a salad bar and olive bar. A few decorative items as well as fresh flowers. A little bit of everything. The staff are very nice and helpful. I purchased several dishes for the Jewish holidays. Very disappointed in 2 out of the 4. The lamb stew was gluey and ineatable. The matzoh ball soup was not much better. Rice pudding and the sweet potato dish were good. Not going back there soon. read more

My work had boxed sandwich lunches catered by Morron's today and they were great! I had a turkey and swiss cheese on white bread. It came with mayo and mustard packets on the side so the sandwiches didn't get soggy. These were big sandwiches with a lot of meat, so they were filling. AVOID BUYING ANY COMMODITY ITEMS HERE. THEY ARE MARKED UP AS IF THEY ARE THE SAME AS THEIR SPECIALTY ITEMS. I've been shopping here for 17 years. Shame on me. Normally I do my main shopping at Publix which has tremendous variety. I also understood that as a gourmet style shop, the Morton's prices were higher. But they DO have a very good meat dept with prime meat, even though my eyes have sometimes popped open when I purchased a holiday roast. Some of their salads are pretty good. Their bakery is terrific. Great cheeses. I like some of their prepared meals and find them convenient. I know I could make it cheaper, but sometimes you just don't have the time. I'm no drinker, but the space that they give to their wine department shouts out that it's a huge profit maker that people patronize. Their groceries and frozen items aren't your typical off the assembly line mass marketed generic stuff. And I expect to pay extra for their "gourmet" and specialty items - including groceries - given the generally higher quality and their smaller size requiring wider margins. I've always felt that Morton's pushed the envelope with their margins to begin with, especially in the meat and bakery departments. I've always gotten a chuckle at their table with "shrimp and cocktail sauce" which is absolutely ridiculously priced. Most food magazines tell you that shrimp,cocktail is the worst thing to buy at a restaurant or at retail. You can get the stuff for a small fraction of the price from a fishmonger and a bottle of Heinz cocktail sauce. And maybe that chuckle should have resonated more significantly in my view of Mortons. Because yesterday was the very first time in all these years that I went inside for convenience to pick up a single commodity item, available everywhere on a very wide basis. Nothing else. Normally, the price of that item, if I bought it at all (commodities are for Publix) would blend in with the higher priced items I'd buy and wouldn't notice that I was being extremely price gouged. But buying it separately made my eyes pop out and deeply offended me. Let's face it. The markup on most of their stuff is likely known by most customers to be high and in some cases VERY high. It's their obvious business plan. But how many people have made the same mistake I've been making for years? That the few - and I mean FEW - commodity type widely distributed items are ridiculously priced as compared to what just about everyone else who sells the exact same thing charges and the only value added by the store is taking the thing out of a box and putting it on the shelf? I had no time for a refresh shop at Publix this week because of house guests and had underestimated that we would go through all of my packaged cold brewed coffee. I was driving past Mortons on my way home and realized that hey, I've seen it in their cooler, albeit not my preferred Starbucks. So I popped in and bought a different brand. Not my first choice, but hey, convenience sometimes requires compromise. I took it to the register and It was $8.49. Now at Publix that brand and size sells for $5.99. I've seen it elsewhere - on the opposite end of the "ambiance spectrum" - it sells for less than $4.50 at Walmart. But never have I've seen it priced at any price that started higher than with a 6 as the first number. And rarely if ever that. But $8.49???? ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. That's more than 41% more than at Publix, 89% more than Walmart and at all other places and delivery services, somewhere in between. Bottom line? For the grand effort of pulling the bottle out of the case it's shipped in and placing it on their shelf - and doing NOTHING else to it - Mortons charges at least 40% more than any other provider who does the same thing. Now, having been in the grocery business as a young man, I know that smaller non chain stores who buy from wholesalers at lower volumes don't get the best pricing. BUT...they don't pay 40% to nearly 90% more!!!!! This is out and out price gouging and I consider it to be in bad faith. I expect that Morton's figures that most people will not notice the price gouging when they come in to buy other stuff that they expect to pay higher prices for. So it just kind of blends in and sneaks on by. Not with me ever again. I'll eat McDonalds if I need a prepared meal before I subject myself to such gross bad behavior. (BTW, you can order a plain burger from McD's refrigerate it and heat it up just fine). Ok, maybe that's an exaggeration. Call in a pizza if you're hungry And don't have time or don't want to cook. Mortons is already making a bundle off of almost all of their other goods, most of which are specialty items. But come on. There HAS to be some limit other than just pulling prices out of the air for widely available commodity goods. Shame shame shame read more

I wanted to send a Passover meal to my sister and her family. I live in Chicago, she lives in Bradenton. I found Morton's online, and when I called, they couldn't have been nicer. It was clear from the cacophony in the background, that they were crazy-busy, but the woman who helped me with my order didn't make me feel rushed, and carefully helped me choose all the right foods from their substantial menu. This evening was my first, but certainly not my last visit to Morton's Gourmet Market. What a nice hidden gem of a market! I purchased coconut chicken cutlets from the deli, as well as fresh strawberries and fresh bread. It was nice to be able to cook the already prepped chicken into the oven once I arrived home from work. The strawberries are fresh, ripe and - honestly, just perfect. The fresh bread is a little too good, I didn't want to stop eating it... The prices are a little higher than the, "normal" grocery store. That is the price you pay for exceptional service and exceptional food. I for one, am willing to pay extra for better tasting, fresh food. read more
