Light + Bark Candle Co. - All the fixins for candle making.

We were in town for my brother's ASU graduation, which happened to fall on Mother's Day weekend. I was searching for Mother's Day activities that didn't involve food (so much of the graduation festivities were ALL about food), and I came across Light + Bark. I decided to book a candle pouring reservation for our group of seven, and was grateful they still had availability on such a busy weekend. I've done candle pouring before, and it's been more of a private experience, where we had the space to ourselves. Light + Bark has a bit different of a layout ... the candle pouring takes place right in the middle of the shop, and felt a bit crowded at times for a larger group like ours. Even still, the instructors made us feel welcome, and encouraged us as we selected our scents! They even had free mimosas for Mother's Day, which was such a thoughtful touch to make moms feel special. The scent selection is expansive, and we especially loved the desert-themed collection. We felt the pricing was fair for the experience as well ... it's $38 for a small vessel, $48 for a medium vessel, and $58 for a large vessel. We ended up getting really into the scent mixing process, and had a great time smelling everyone's final products! The candles take two hours to set, and then you can pick them up at your convenience during regular shop hours. I'd definitely recommend this experience to anyone looking for a unique way to celebrate, and you could absolutely pair your experience with brunch reservations elsewhere in Old Town.

I've been on the lookout for some reasonably priced votive candles and accessories for awhile now…read more The problem is I didn't want to buy the cheap low-end junk at a place like Walmart but on the other hand, I wasn't to interested in paying the premiums that stores like Yankee Candle Company charge. Armadilla finally caught my eye on my last trip to Prescott (how I'd missed this store before, I don't know since it is very prominently located on the town square). I poked my head in, not expecting very much, and got a whole lot. To begin, Armadilla is known for their sculpted candles (something I found out later on of course, ha!) and they certainly had some really cool candles. Among the highlights for me were a breast cancer awareness ribbon (proceeds from the sale donated of course) and their cactus candle. I settled on buying a box of 18 votive candles since they offered a free holder with the purchase of a box. This was a great deal as I could mix and match the fragrances I wanted instead of being stuck having to buy all of one scent. Service was great. I was probably being a nuisance, asking a bunch of questions to the girl but she took me around the shop anyway and pointed out some of her favorite fragrances and even talked me out of buying a couple things that I thought I'd need but didn't really. She gave me great service and helped me find just what fit for where I was planning to burn the candles. Prices were modest, though since it was a candle shop there certainly wasn't anything "cheap" in the store. Good candles simply cost more than what you can get at the Walmarts and Targets of the world. Still, my box of eighteen candles cost about the same as only twelve candles at Yankee and that is pretty solid in my book, especially for a smaller privately-owned business. Great service, some cool pieces, and some very nice/unique fragrances: all in all Armadilla caught my attention and its now another store on my list of places to hit whenever I make the trip up to Prescott.

Such an amazing experience, and I can't wait to go back after my products run out!…read more I called ahead to see if this place required reservations, but they are walk‑in ONLY. I got there first thing in the morning with my mom and aunt to get started. We arrived on a Friday and parking was PACKED. We ended up finding a spot in a nearby lot, so if you have a certain time you want to arrive, make sure you factor in parking. Anyway, we made our way into the building, and a nice lady told us we could sit anywhere we wanted and gave us the rundown. You're able to make an array of items. We ended up making car fresheners, perfumes, lotions, and candles. You start off by picking your favorite scents and combinations. If you're anything like me and my mom, we are very indecisive, luckily they help you pick out scents and combinations they think you'll like. Seriously amazing staff! They were so patient with us to make sure we got the scent we loved. Overall, the process took about an hour, and depending on what you make, you'll have to come back after 3 -4 hours to pick up your items. When we came back around late noon, it was packed, so I definitely don't recommend coming at that time. Definitely go early in the morning or maybe a couple hours before they close. The prices weren't overly expensive at all. I can't remember the exact total, but I think I got around three items and only paid about $70. Either way, if I have more family coming in from out of town or just want a fun place to go with friends, I can definitely see myself coming back

**July 2026: Thursday Afternoon Visit**…read more My friend and I were visiting Phoenix during a 110-degree heat wave and desperately needed something to cool us down, so I went searching and came across Sphinx Date Co Palm & Pantry. The date milkshake sounded too good to pass up, so my friend and I made the drive out to Scottsdale for a little afternoon treat--and it was absolutely worth it. As soon as we walked in, the shop owner was incredibly warm and welcoming. She offered us a sample of a Medjool date, and wow--it was plump, rich, and had this deep caramel-like sweetness that instantly sold me. You can really taste the quality. We each ordered a large date milkshake, and it was everything I hoped for. It tasted clean and simple in the best way--like it's made with just dates, milk, and ice cream (which is typically what a classic date shake includes). It was creamy, naturally sweet, and super refreshing in the Arizona heat. I also loved that the store carries a variety of Arizona-made local products, which made souvenir shopping so easy. They had everything from BBQ sauce and hot sauce to wines and cactus candy. I ended up picking up a few sauces and some jumbo Medjool dates to bring home as gifts. The owner also shared that they carry different types of dates depending on the season. I'm already looking forward to coming back to try their Sphinx dates, which she described as having a thinner skin and a more honey-like flavor--apparently available in late summer. Overall, I really loved this shop, its mission, and the quality of its products. This is definitely a spot you'll want to bookmark for your next Phoenix trip.
