Same price as the Days Inn, and offers more than those two restaurants - indoor heated pool (I didn't even bother using the pool after all that, but it's still nice to know it's here) and hot breakfast (I don't even eat much breakfast, but, again, it's nice to know it's here). The room is very quiet, the Internet is fast and plentiful, everything is immaculately clean and my room has beautiful hardwood flooring. Hardwood floors in a budget rate motel? Pinch me. Still waiting for something to go wrong, but I really can't think of what, unless scalding brimstone comes out of the shower at random intervals. Side note: Whitney was very affable and patient when I arrived. She was happy to show me rooms and definitely helped make the sale. So if the bosses are reading this - praise to Whitney.

We decided to do a day trip to Orange to visit the Shangri-La Botanical Gardens (see my other…read morereview) and thought we'd stop at this old home for our elderly guest. You cannot go straight to the house for a tour, you must meet at the Stark museum across the street, purchase a ticket, and then be accompanied by a tour guide to the house. The museum is free if you'd like to visit that while you are there. Once you walk over to the house you cannot bring a camera in with you. A knowledgeable and very long winded tour guide will bring you around the average sized home for about an hour describing every room in detail. It's a pretty home from the outside and I wish that was all I had seen. The long tour of the inside was boring. Our tour guide was obviously very proud of the home and the history of the house in relation to Orange, Texas, but it wasn't as interesting to out of town people. I don't think that I am being overly harsh. My 70 year old mother-in-law accompanied us; she is a huge fan of old homes and antiques. She found the tour to be too long and to focus on mundane items in the house. My suggestion... go to Orange for the day. Visit Shangri-La and stop in front of this home to see how pretty it is from the outside.

You have to drive between these two to find the hotel. The hotel is very clean, fenced around, beautifully landscaped, and well maintained. The staff are great. The hallways have a wild casino themed carpet and there is the casino a few feet away from the lobby through a breezeway, but you don't have to go there if you don't want to. My room smelled a bit strong of "air freshener" when I arrived, but other than that was spotless, very comfortable, and pleasantly decorated. It was equipped with a mini-fridge, microwave, big screen TV, a very comfortable bed, big bathroom with rain shower, nice towels. There was a pool that looked nice. Ice machine was at the end of the second floor, and there was a washing machine and dryer available. Like I said, there are various eateries right outside with a variety of food: Subway, Hunt Brothers Pizza, fried chicken, and more, a sports bar, and the casino. The hotel lobby is nice and the morning personnel are friendly. The check in clerk was more businesslike, but he was efficient. They require a refundable deposit for any damages. No smoking. I did not eat breakfast there but it looked very good, more than the usual. They had a hot breakfast with eggs, sausage, and a lot more. I'd definitely stay there again, and would be comfortable taking my family.

Was looking for a quality hotel that was clean and affordable, and the Hampton Inn Lake Charles was right up my alley. Upon checking in I was greeted with great customer service and given my diamond rewards and free Waters without having to ask this is always a plus. Getting to my room, I found that it was very clean well-stocked with supplies and had a greeting on my television welcoming me to the hotel, even though I had just booked the hotel within the last hour. If you're in the area and looking for a good place to stay stop on in, there's plenty to do in the surrounding area, including the golden nugget casino, and other dining options as well.

The rooms were very nice. We stayed in the king suite, very well laid out. Only complaint is they had a steamer and not an iron. Doesn't work the same, but oh well. The decor was nice, the bed was comfortable, the AC was rocking. Really enjoyed the room. Whomever stayed there previously not only changed the time on the clock, but set an alarm at an ungodly hour. Well played. The casino is a bit smaller than Golden Nugget across the street. The lower ceilings give it a smaller, cozier feel. No luck on the slots here, but we did get into some blackjack. Under the tutelage of Justin T. I now have a new favorite card game. I had previously stayed away from the tables. By the time we checked in all the restaurants had closed, so we didn't get to try any of the food here. The wait staff in the casino were not very attentive and did not return with our drinks. When we found the guy later in the same spot that we ordered in, he said he had been back and that we had left even though we hadn't moved since we had been there. Always fun catching the BS. So well I can rate the lack of service, I can't rate the quality of the drinks because I didn't have one. Maybe next time. Parking here is easy, there's a huge lot outside. I just got back to Houston after spending three wonderful nights here. I got the Suite Française…read morefor $100 a night. Room was immaculate and well and tastefully furnished. The water pressure in the shower was prefect and there was plenty of very hot water. Towels and sheets were fluffy and soft and I slept great on the comfy mattress. Another huge plus, especially if you visit Orange in the summer, is the upstairs was nicely cooled; I never felt warm inside for a second. There is wifi, but I only really used it to download a new book to my Kindle. There's also a TV in the room with Direct TV, but I never turned it on, instead preferring the serenity of this quiet, historical neighborhood to cast the perfect reading environment. I'm a light eater, so Gina, the innkeeper, provided me with fresh fruit salad each morning with toast or bagels. Parking is off-street and around back, so you never have to worry about your car. The is an expansive backyard with huge old trees. I preferred the front porch to watch for the occasional passing freight train which runs down the block. (There is a quiet zone in Orange now, so there is virtually no noise from the passing freights.)

The bedroom was actually in an entirely separate room (with a door) from the sitting/desk/front room. There was a TV in each room. It was almost too much spaciousness for just little ol' me! The sheets and towels were clean and fresh. The A/C was noisy but it worked very well. They only replace the towels every third day, or if you ask specifically for some. The whole hotel was clean and fresh. The lobby and hallways were well kept. The staff were friendly and cheerful. The breakfast area was spotless. When I ate in there, the staff were obviously taking great pride in the service and the food. The breakfast fare was the usual stuff you find in every hotel. The coffee was decent. Thumbs up to the ladies on the breakfast staff! I haven't stayed at a BW hotel in years, but after this trip I will consider them more often. There was desk space, a chair, and nightstands on both sides of the bed. The bathroom, while refurbished with nice flooring and granite countertop, had seen better days. The tub shower was rather slippery. I loved that all of the toiletries were in pumps or squeeze bottle dispensers. On the night of our arrival, we were surprised to be offered a free carry-out dinner of Salisbury steak, potatoes, and a roll. Breakfast was far better than most of the hotels on our 18-day road trip. We appreciated the good selection and clean (but small) breakfast room. The only thing that was bothersome during this stay was the freezing cold hallway outside our 3rd floor room.
