My local bike shop. They are really good at taking care of your bike needs. They are reasonably priced for both parts and service. Sunny Weekends can be very crowded so you will need to be patient with your newly discovered flat tire repair. Yes, you can buy a bike cheaper on the internet. But if you ride your cheap bike at all you will spend your savings on assembly and maintenance. A decent bike shop will assemble, maintain, fit and make sure you buy a decent bike for your needs. Spin City will maintain your bike for a couple years as part of the purchase price. read more

Ive been reading the reviews and Im surprised at how positive they are, whenever I go into this store Im reminded why people dont like biking. This store is incredibly snooty for a bike-shop and are pretty unfriendly overall. Im not sure what the experience is like when you come in and buy bikes as I have many bikes already but mines are pretty negative. In my mind this shops atmosphere and workers remind me of the bike shops in on the West Side which cater to their own bikes that they sell and care less about customer service and helping you. Moreover their prices are not great, from memory I cannot remember but there are places with more competitive pricing. I've been coming to this bike store since 2005 when I made my first bike purchase. I have bought 3 more bikes form them since and have not been disappointed. As many have mentioned, the customer service at this shop is great despite the turnovers these past few years. Jimmy does a good job of training his staff and they seem eager to assist and at the same time, know when they should back off and let you make a decision without crowding you or trying to up-sell whatever it is you came to buy. Marcos the mechanic is simply awesome. I tend to buy accessories online without considering whether they are compatible to my bike. Somehow, I always end up taking it to Marcos just because I know he'll McGuyver something up for me to make it work. Being that there are so few LBS in Queens, it would probably help them stand apart and also improve customer loyalty if they would have bike workshops and teach people simple things such as replacing a flat, checking your brakes, etc. read more

TLDR: They tell you one price then add an install fee when you come back (check other reviews as well). Owner extremely disrespectful & escalates the situation into a physical altercation when asked to put the old part back on. My chain had fallen off on the road & I happened to be right outside the shop so I stopped by. A guy, presumably the owner came outside & gave a quick diagnosis. I was told that it was the derailleur & that it was be "$35 for the derailleur" (keep wording in mind)! I told him ok so I'll leave it here & it'll be $35, he said yes. I also asked him to "check out if there were any other issues" (again keep in mind the wording) I come back & the owner informs me that the wheels are slightly misaligned & that he also did an adjustment on the rear brakes. Until now there are no issues until I get the amount I owed. He told me $35 derailleur + $15 install + $5.99 brake adjustment. I stared questioning about the prices then he dropped the 5.99 brakes but that was not where the main contention was. I explain to him that he said "$35 for the derailleur" & he goes "did I install it or you install it." I was told $35 & left my bike there to get the service done. Had he really thought I just wanted the part he wouldn't have let me leave the bike because what was he going to do with the bike if I am just buying a part. At this point he rudely agrees to uninstall it, he rudely throws my old part outside & goes inside to take off the old one. At this point I have no been aggressive but then I followed him inside (still halfway out the door) & told him to install the old part. At this point I had become aggressive but not physically, I was still around the counter from him & only handing him the part. At this point he goes "fine comes in the store" PULLS ME IN WHERE HE IS FRONT OF THE DOOR & gets in my face like "what are you going to do". I push him away & am keeping him off at this point. Then his mechanic camas & "pins" me to the counter (albeit with horrible form), at this point I pulled out my pocket knife & 100% would've been in the right to stab the man but instead I let the situation deescalate unlike the owner. Had it been the owner trying to pin me down rather than the mechanic then maybe I would've stabbed him in the rib cage. He then tell me to leave & tries to make me seem like the bad guy for having pulled out a knife in his store. I try to talk to him & he refuses to talk like a man, reluctantly throws on the old part & that's where this ends. The owner is highly lucky I wasn't carrying my pepper spray today because if I were he would've gotten a nice taste when he got in my face like "what are you going to do" . read more

If this was a bike shop anywhere in Manhattan, I'd be much more harsh with my review, but lets face it...we don't have a heck of a lot of great options here in Queens. They have a decent amount of inventory, with a staff that's always been friendly and helpful the few times I've visited. My first experience at Spin City was back when they were in Forest Hills. I took my bike in for a tune up, and sadly was told that it'd take about a week before I could come pick it up. Seems a bit on the lengthy side for just a tune up, but again, my only local option. My second experience was at their current Rego Park location. I was in the market for a new bike and saw one I liked at a bike shop in Manhattan. I called Spin City to see if they had it in their store. The employee told me they didn't have the bike there, but would be able to order it for me if I'd like. They actually ended up giving me a better price than the original bike shop I saw it at, so I was very pleased. They also offer (at least they did at the time - not sure if this is still true) a free tune up if you purchase your bicycle there. read more

Just picked up my first "serious" bike. I've been biking for many years, using mainly big box store mountain bikes. Walked in looking for a commuter bike and picked up a Specialized 2016 Sirrus Elite Disc. The staff were great . It felt like they were genuinely trying find a bike that suited my needs. Before I settled on the Sirrus, they suggested other bikes that were less expensive. Because of this, I wasn't intimidated to look at something more expensive. They didn't try to up-sell me at all. I ended up-selling myself haha. Because I didn't feel pressured to buy stuff, I picked up extras such as a new helmet, lights, kickstand, lock, and bell. the owner, Jimmy is great, honest, attentive, informative and not pushy to up sell or for a purchase. Great selection of 1 brand and lots of nice toys for your bike. The repair crew, has great manners but try to rack up the repair costs and never get the job done the right way the 1st, 2nd or sometimes the 3rd time. There's a difference between test riding and tweeking and having cables not replaced or tightened, gears not set up or worse than before or the repairs as agreed upon not being completed. No reason why any client should ever have to keep bringing a bike back to complete the original service. I was riding my cruiser on Queens Blvd a few weeks ago when one of the nuts that holds the rear wheel guard on came off (as it had been regularly). Still rideable but it sounded like a nightmare. I had a regular bike guy to do repairs but I decided to stop in to see if they could fix it. Everyone was super helpful. I think the owner even intervened with the person repairing my bike and gave him a tip to make the repair last even longer. It's been great ever since. I came into my local bike shop to compare prices vs bikes online. The owner Jimmy, was very friendly and knowledgeable about needs. I have a variety of questions and we ended up with the Specialized Sirrus Sport Version. He told me about the services they provide and the benefits of a hybrid bike which suits my needs. Jimmy also warned me that hybrid user might feel the urge to return the bike for a road. (he was right) I was able to test the bike around the block and it felt great compared to my 15 year old Mongoose mountain bike. I told him that I would return if I wanted the bike. I came back the next day to purchase the bike, although Jimmy wasn't there. They assembled my bike in ~1hr 1/2 and I drove it home. Needless to say I have been riding the bike regularly since, usually ~30 miles a week all around the city. Great service, knowledgeable and great bikes. Will be back in several years for my next specialized bike, most likely a road bike. read more

I would give this place ZERO stars. On Saturday 7/25, I decided to visit Spin City bike shop to purchase a bike. I followed the directions on their door stating "Wait Outside," so I waited patiently for someone to assist me. The shop workers were looking at me through their window/door but not acknowledging me. Someone eventually came to the door and ask me "What do you want," in such a terrible manner. I then asked him, "Can I come in" and he literally said "No, What do you want." I felt uncomfortable and disrespected by this encounter so I just walked away. I am very disappointed because I try to support the small businesses in my area and was met with such disrespect. There were 2 Caucasian men inside of the shop being assisted. I was uncomfortable because I believe the lack of customer service & disrespect was due to fact of me being a BLACK man. I've been here twice and will not return. I'm sure COVID is putting everyone on edge, but there's been too many issues (misquoted pricing, hard sells, take it or leave it attitude for poor service) that I shouldn't be paying for. The "owner?" (older Asian man with long hair) needs to understand that riders have other bike repair options and should be treated as valued customers, not idiots to be milked for money. Both times when I spoke with him, he kept trying to sell me various solutions, but refused to actually identify the problem. It was like he was gauging how much money I was willing to spend. Another time I went to get my brakes adjusted and they weren't fixed--I swear nothing was fixed & I rode my bike home with the brakes screeching all the way. read more

Wow, it has already been 5 years since I bought my Schwinn and two folding bikes from Spin City! Time has really gone by and Spin City has moved out of Forest Hills and into Rego Park. They're still on Queens Blvd, just on the opposite side. A lot has changed since. The new store looks great. The displays, floor room is a lot spacier than the old store. The owner Jimmy is just as I remembered. He's a really nice guy and great with customers. It was good seeing him today. Update on the bikes I purchased from Spin City 5 years ago. Schwinn Cutter - Still in good shape! I came in today to have my front tire fix. Rode through a puddle yesterday in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. The puddle was right by the ramp by one of the bridges over GCP. I just arrived at the park and this happened. It took almost an hour for me to walk home! The frame of the bike is a bit heavy and the original saddle had to go pronto. It's still a fun commuter and joy ride bike. Dahon Folding Bike #1 "Boardwalk" (Single Speed) - Still in excellent condition. The handlebar grips needs to be replaced. They can get a bit uncomfortable. The saddle has been replaced recently. I originally purchased this bike for my grandmother but she passed away from cancer shortly after I got it for her. Hopefully she's up there riding her bike joyfully through the clouds. Dahon Folding Bike #2 (With gears) - Completely busted and rusted. I originally bought this for my mother's birthday but she never rode it. So I took it to college briefly, didn't ride it much myself and decided to loan it to my roommate after I left. My roommate kept it outside, it sat through rain and snow. By the time my roommate returned my bike, it looked completely brown and disgusting. He tried brushing off some of the rust but it'll never look the same again. When I loaned this bike to my roommate, it was in pristine condition. It's now sitting in another friend's garage rotting away. Money well spent..... As for Spin City, they carry a variety of bikes. Mostly Specialized, Cannondale, Schwinn, GT, and a few bmx and children bikes. They sell a variety of bike accessories, clothing, helmets, and shoes. They also have some pretty great specials on their bike repairs/maintenance services. You could also rent bikes from Spin City. Verdict - If you're living in this region of Queens, Forest Hills, Rego Park, and Elmhurst. This is could be your go-to bike shop. The guys at Spin City are very knowledgeable, helpful, and guys like Jimmy are genuinely friendly and not trying to scam or hustle any customers into buying something they don't need. I'd be more than happy to come back to Spin City to purchase another bike in the near future. And another big reason I prefer coming to Spin City over other bike shops in this Queens region is because Spin City is really neighborhood friendly. Customer service is vital and whenever I go into Spokesman Cycles or other bike shops, I always feel neglected. I'm not a cycling fanatic like some of my relatives and friends but come on, a little customer service would be nice. Overall, I agree with Kandisse, and I wonder if the Rego Park location is now under new management. I've bought three bikes from Spin City Cycle: one for me, one for my wife, and one for my daughter. I've always had tune-ups here and gotten ancillary equipment here. It used to be the staff seemed like enthusiastic cyclists who were glad that people in town could share their appreciation, if not enthusiasm, for cycling on a nice day. The first sign that things were different was when I walked in with my bicycle and the only staff member in the showroom said hello to me and walked to the backroom, leaving me to my own devices for about a minute, wondering what the heck was going on. (A minute is a long time to stand in a store alone--especially when you know the staff is aware of your presence!) Eventually, a different person came out and, like Kandisse said, there was no smile, no friendliness. The tune-up was a bit overpriced, in my opinion, and I will surely shop around for a better deal. The second sign was when I came back to get my bicycle and was waiting for the one staff member to finish with his customer. The other staff member (the one who previously said hello and walked away) came out and stood there like an idiot. When other customers walked into the store, he walked up and began helping them. They still do good work and were able to turn around my bicycle quickly. Plus, I don't mind paying a bit more to a local guy out of loyalty. But, that feeling of loyalty is supposed to be a two-way street. These particular staff members had never met or seen me before; the only thing they could have known about me was that I was a long-time and loyal customer (after looking up my phone number on their computer). But, hey, if my business is run-of-the-mill, or in anyway an interruption to the staff, I'm more than happy to shop around for another bicycle shop. read more

I had my bike brought in yesterday for a tune up at Spin City Cycle, it took them most of the afternoon to get the thing working the way it should be, after replacing the back wheel, the chain, and the crack bracket, the bike kept skipping gears when I would put any real effort into it, and the chain would come off while switching. They guy tells me I need a new rear derailleur (7 or 8 speed long chain), of which he has none in stock. So I call Cigi bike shop and they claim they had one, I pop down there to get it, and the only ones they have in stock are the 9 speed. So Back to Spin I go, and they said they were going to order it. After tinkering with it for like an hour (back and forth testing) Jimmy (owner) finally got it working properly until the new derailleur came in (he said it would be in today), I took the bike out this morning for an early morning ride (7 miles) and put it through its paces. I noticed that the low gear (1st) would cause the chain to slip when I would put effort into it, going up a steep incline. I brought it back when they opened asking for Jimmy (since he is the one that fixed it), unfortunately he wasn't in, and I had to deal with the lackeys of the company, who didn't seem to understand basic physics. I told the guy the bike was slipping in that gear and his response was, "You shouldn't be in that gear, the bike wasn't made for it." To which I replied, if the bike wasn't made for it then why is that gear on there? After going back and forth several times, (he still didn't grasp the concept) he told me that I should be using a different gear which will get me the same results. He refused to listen, (he was busy stuffing his face with a hot dog). I tried to explain to him that if he had a car that it was like saying Oh you shouldn't use drive, the car was never meant for it. The gears exist for a reason, each sprocket is a different size to get you the different combinations of the gears (3 on one side 7 on the other) no two gears are the same and thus will not give you the same power and speed. Bottom line is this kid didn't know what he was talking about, and the bike was not fixed properly. It didn't slip in that gear before the "adjustments" and it shouldn't be doing so now. read more

They are awesome! I went to get a bike a while ago and just tried out several different ones. I wanted to think about the investment and asked if I could come back. They were more than accommodating and patient; they listened to me carefully and made sound recommendations about which bike I should choose. I came back months later and tried out the items again--I went through 5 or 6 test runs, which took over an hour. I purchased a beginner bike with 3 years of maintenance already included. This place is incredible. I will never go to another bicycle store in Queens after my latest experience at Spin. I came in for routine maintenance following a bad bicycle accident and a blown inner tube. One of the people working at Spin (it may have been the owner and if it was, I apologize for not knowing his name or recognizing him as such), noticed my abnormal height (6'5"). I purchase a Trek some time ago and had to special order the bike because of my height and weight. The Spin employee/boss noticed that my handle bars were too low for my height. I have suffered neck and back problems for quite some time, especially following the previous accident. I was told that the handle bars were too low and the person recommended higher handle bars. He didn't push a product on me. He merely suggested it and told me if I was interested, he would gladly help me by putting the new handle bars on and raise them to the correct level. Metro in the UES never made the suggestion in the four years that I was taking my bicycle to them for service. I took his advice and asked him to put the handle bars on while doing the routine maintenance. In addition, when I returned for the maintenance check up, he told me that there were a few issues with my frame, likely stemming from the accident. Again, he didn't pressure me to get the additional work done. Throughout my entire experience he was courteous and super chill. I received the bike back and have been on several 20+ mile commuter rides and have immediately felt the difference in my neck, shoulders, and back. The price was fair and the work was done well. I will, for as long as I remain in Queens, spend every bicycle related dollar at Spin. Thank you for the outstanding service and for dramatically helping me have a more productive and less painful ride. I HIGHLY recommend Spin to any bikers out there. read more
