Staff is unskilled or doesn't try. Looks like a bunch of kids running the shop. I brought my bike in for service and assembly that they were going to charge $70 for, but then refused to do anything once they encountered a problem (was also told that seat posts that would fit my bike does not exist, found one on amazon shortly after). When i went to pick up the bike, they had lost one of my pedals and asked me if i was sure i had two pedals followed by telling me he just didn't have the time to find my pedal after i had to take a day off work to come pick up the bike. When i told them i needed the pedal to bring to a different shop they told me to "just return the bike from who i bought it from because no one will service it because it is not a big brand." I had told them i wouldn't mind buying replacement parts or aftermarket parts if necessary, and they wouldn't even bother to look. Finally, I just brought the bike to a shop in Manhattan and they assessed it and offered to Fix and replace all parts i needed for the price of their $60 tune up. I just moved to Forest Hills since i have a lot of friends here and was hoping to support my local shop but instead i will be telling everyone to avoid this place. Wasted a weekend and a vacation day. read more

Walked in and was greeted kindly. I had questions about cranks, bikes, hubs, wheels, gyro spin for the fork, and was able to answer them all to the best of there knowledge. I took my Dad's old bike out of my garage and wasn't really sure if it was ride able. Walked it up to this shop. Caesar put the bike up and within about 2 minutes told me he could fix it for me. There was a few minor adjustments (fixing the gear shifters, putting air in the tires and making sure the brakes worked and the pedals moved on the chain). Ten minutes later the bike was as good as new and they only charged me $5 dollars. They have great prices on repairing bikes, the customer service is great, and the workers are very knowledgeable. HORRIBLE SERVICE!!! HORRIBLE PRICES!!! STAY AWAY!!! Went in today (January 22nd, 2012), on a Sunday morning at 12:00 when they open, figured I would be able to get good service since it should be a quite day. Instead, the shop opened 25 minutes late, and for some reason I waited. Anyway, I looked passed that. The "sales manager" told me that for a simple crank installation that I wanted done I would be charged $50, I quickly insisted that that's just WAY too much. When he realized I wanted to get a new chain as well, he quickly brought the price down from $50 to $25. So I decided that I would do it since this is necessary to even be able to ride the bike. Next, while working on the bike the mechanic changes a cable without even asking me if I would pay for it and charges me for it. I looked passed that as well. Next, the "sales manager" tells me I need my headset adjusted so it would sit lower (I actually agreed with him on this). I asked him how much that would cost, and he tells me $30!!!! I asked him why for something that won't even take 3 minutes to do? He said that is what they charge. Immediately I called up their competitors shop's (Spokesman Cycles in Queens and Roy's Cycle's in Brooklyn), they charge $8 to $10 for the same job. I told the "sales manager" that is what your competitors charge and that is all I am going to pay, he refused and lowered the price to $25. I told him that I will simply take my business elsewhere unless he charges me what everyone else does, and he refused. So, I took my bike out of their store and will have this done either at Spokesman's or at Roy's. This is how angry this whole experience made me that I decided to write a review! I would encourage the owner of this store (was not in at the time of my visit) to step in before this business fails entirely! In case the workers of this store read this: I was the guy with the orange Specialized P1 bike. And regarding all the reviews below how the workers are professional.... "The Sales Manager" obviously got his face smashed in a fight last night. He showed up to work with a bloody face and what looked like a broken nose. If my face looked like that, I wouldn't even show up to work for the next few days. Therefore, there is NOTHING professional about this store besides a few overpriced bikes that they sell. read more

i got my own new urban tires and tubes to replace the racing style on my new bike (all brands spin city resells) and as i was unfamiliar with bike repair asked spin city to do it for $9 per tire. the work seemed fine till three weeks later one tire was flat after not even being ridden. went back to spin city for another $9 they checked the tube for leaks (they don't even own a trough to do this properly) found none and they put it all back together. their "knowledgable" staff insisted that my sort of tubes require weekly air refilling... what a load of crap. once i get home after all this "service" i find the clear plastic faces of all my brand new handlebar accessories are scratched, while the front brake clamp is misaligned rubbing the tire rim. i mourn my ruined plastic and realign it myself as best i can. nine weeks later my tires still remain fully inflated even after several hundred miles of city riding. so i stop in to politely inform the manager of my concern over his employees work, only he shows no interest, or offers an apology or refund over the clearly unneeded leak test. it's clear to me one of their bike techs is a careless bafoon, who then left my presta valve open on the first visit, only to later do a rush job on my bike while working on it set upside down against a concrete floor. if i wanted this kind of sloppy unprofessional service, i would have asked my neighbor's 12yo kid to do it for free. spin city is why such businesses are dying. casual bike riders like me would rather buy their own tools and parts, and learn on youtube how to repair things, then trust their riding investment to these spin city snobs. read more

Google has terrible reviews for this place, but Yelp seems a bit more fair. I can only speak to my experience here, which was positive. My wife got a flat tire and they took care of it quickly and noted another problem with the tire (which I knew was legit). I had another issue with the rear tire and they fixed it for the lower end of the quote they gave me. The owner and his assistant were friendly, knowledgable (answered a couple of other questions I had and had some insights), and not at all pushy or angling to sell me more than what I asked for. read more

I was looking for a hybrid bike --I told him my budget and he recommended a sirrus sport carbon ---so I took the plunge!---he set it all up, recommended a comfortable saddle and all I can say this new bike is like having a Ferrari! Spin City Cycle is a dying breed, hopefully we all can help keep this place alive and breathing for the long run. I can't recall the last time I had such amazing customer service as I had a few weeks ago at Spin City (maybe Bloomingdale's Men's Department a few years ago). I brought in a bike that was given to me, but needed a bunch of work and they took their time explaining the different options and price points for me. My bike was ready in a matter of a day or so, and when I went to pick it up, they once again took the time to explain the work that was done and gave me a 15-20 minute lesson on the trainer on how to use clip-ins (as they were new to me). The prices seem reasonable enough for me (and I seem to recall they even threw in a 10% discount... just because), to the extent that if I would even rather pay a little more than online or somewhere else just to make sure to bring my business back here. The store has a nice selection of new bikes and do all repairs on site. As long as I am local, this is going to be my bike shop! read more

Do not go here. Bikes are overpriced. They also overcharge for bike assembly and maintenance. But the worst part of this place is the staff. These guys are not friendly at all, they have major attitude. Do not listen to other reviewers. My husband and I went to them a few times because we live near by and we have received an attitude every time, never a smile. The last time I was in there, I was asking about a price and was told that if I didn't like the price I could take my business somewhere else. So that's what I will be doing. There is another great Bicycle shop on Queens Blvd. in Rego Park a few blocks away. Plus there is another adorable Bicycle shop with a very friendly staff & owner in Kew Gardens on Lefferts Blvd. Check those out if you want a friendly & competent staff. Spin City is full of a bunch of spoiled brats with nasty attitudes. read more

Went in to rent a bike due to small apartment and no storage to keep one of my own and left with a collapsable bike and all needed accessories that are awesome! I was guided through all my questions and how to take care of the bike. This shop really does care. I had gone to this bike shop for a flat tire. They had mention that my handle bars were turned around the wrong way and that it would be a dangerous to ride the bike like that and insisted that I have them change them back to their original position. I have a neck problem so another bike store said I could turn the handle bars around so i would be more comfortable and it would not be dangerous to ride like that. But when Spin City insisted it was dangerous, I told them to go ahead and change them back. First off, I go to pick the bike up and I leave riding the bike- only to get another flat on the same tire. So I bring it back again- they did not check the tire for any glass the first time-that's what caused both flats. Not only that, but I forget to mention that they charged me 15 dollars to turn the handle bars. I thought they were doing it as a favor because they said it was dangerous to ride like that. I made them change the handle bars back they way I had them. Clearly, they were out to make some extra money- as they said turning the handle bars was a service. I agree with some of the others- the staff is very unfriendly and down right rude, including the owner! I heard that this place changed owners but I have yet to try them again. When Spin City Cycle moved into Forest Hills I thought I was in heaven. Several years later when they moved down the Boulevard. a spell. But no matter where these guys still do a steller job. Their hands-on smarts, friendly and professional manner have kept my antique 10-speed alive. And they're prices are the reasonable. When explaining the' needs' and 'hows' of what it would take to keep my Le Jeune alive, Chris, Cambriidge and Jim, the owner, kept it simple using terms I could understand.
