My first appointment (over TEN years ago) was with Dr. Spinelli directly when he knew I was nervous. His calming words were enough to make me come back for my first cleaning. My Dental hygienist is Crystal. Although I've seen several other Hygenist there, I prefer her as she keeps me focused so I don't get nervous. Everyone else did as well, I just felt a great connection with her. To see any bad reviews here makes me laugh! It's impossible. The staff is awesome, all of the hygienists are great, and Dr. Spinelli is by far the best dentist I've ever had. I wish I had gone to his practice years before!!!! I have referred several people to Spinelli dental (Three of which didn't "like" the dentist either) and all love the practice. My children go there as well, I decided one year (due to insurance) to send my girls to a "children's dentist" instead. Needless to say, I returned them back to Spinelli as we immediately didn't feel the trust or compassion as we did at Spinelli. My fiancé also used to hate going to the dentist. Years ago when he was in the Navy and was told he needed his wisdom teeth pulled. He was so nervous he decided volunteering to go to Afghanistan would be easier. Needless to say, I came into his life and when he told me this story I immediately talked to him about Dr. Spinelli and yup... he got his wisdom teeth out and did great! I trust them! At my most recent dental cleaning appointment, I was disappointed to learn that Lottie, the dental hygienist I've been seeing for quite some time, was no longer with the practice. Lottie was always welcoming and consistently made a point to check in on how I was doing while performing her work. She was thorough, gentle, and thoughtful--someone who made you feel seen, valued, and genuinely cared for. Her presence always added a sense of ease to the appointment. Unfortunately, my experience with the new hygienist was quite different. Although she was technically thorough, she was not very welcoming or personable. I sensed it immediately--from the first moment she looked at me as I turned the corner. It was clear this would be a very different kind of experience. Dental cleanings can be uncomfortable to begin with, and when the person working inches from your face seems disconnected or indifferent, it only magnifies the discomfort. I didn't feel like a patient--I felt like a task. An object. Just a mouth being cleaned. It was a deeply unsettling feeling. Thankfully, when the dentist came in, she was as warm and professional as always. Her kindness offered a moment of relief, and for a second, I thought she may have sensed something was off. My own demeanor had shifted--I couldn't wait to leave. Despite the positive interaction with the dentist, it wasn't enough to offset the earlier experience. When it came time to schedule my next appointment, I requested a different hygienist. I won't put myself in that situation again. Recommendation: I sincerely hope the practice sees this review as an opportunity for reflection and provides constructive feedback to the hygienist involved. Interpersonal connection and emotional intelligence are just as important in patient care as clinical skills. Lastly, a broader piece of feedback for the practice: I'd love to see, over time, an increase in African American, Hispanic American and neurodiverse staff members, reflective of the growing diversity in the patient population. Apparently choosing to not have my teeth cleaned for 15 months means I am a new patient and I have to get x-rays and have my teeth counted without a cleaning. Tammy proceeded to patronize me for asking to go directly for a cleaning asking what I did for a living (medical)... equating that to a patient asking a doctor for antibiotics for a cold (which does in fact happen every single day). Also, antibiotics have seriously hurt people while a tooth cleaning has only helped. She said her license could be compromised by not xraying me first.... Okay....
