This bookstore has a wonderful vibe and its shelves are stocked. Some signs will steer you to categories but also look for small taped notes on the shelves, which breaks down the topic more granular. While some are organized alphabetically, other shelves will contain specific authors or series. My best friend was wowed by the drama and plays available. He also noted that several books he'd not been able to find anywhere were all here! I loved the vintage sections, especially children's books. Prices are written in pencil on the back cover and in some people have written inscriptions on the front cover. A book chosen for a specific someone. If you're a book lover make time to visit and slowly walk each shelf. Duttenhofer's is specific about their book genres, cutting out some you may be looking for, but overall it's a great experience to find something you didn't know you needed.

There were so many treasures found at Duttenhofers from a Jamaican Cookbook, to an old Indianapolis travel guide from 1956 describing all the old buildings and its history in downtown Indianapolis....how cool is that!!! There also is a second floor which may be dedicated to a children's area; not positive as I didn't go up there. I am always on the lookout for old books as in 70-plus years, but not a whole lot in that department here as far as sorted items. There was a big stack of aged books but not catalogued. Believe me, I would have gladly pulled up a stool and reviewed the entire stack but as is often the case, the impatient husband was waiting in the car so I couldn't prolong my visit. I did grab a great sci-fi classic by Isaac Asimov; the book is pretty beat up but one dollar! Also spotted a tote bag featuring cats and books so that went home with me for sure. This two-story shop has a well curated array of new and used books, as well as some books printed by an in-house publisher. It also had such interesting nooks and crannies to explore, like it's kids area with a fake fireplace and "room under the stairs" a la Harry Potter, Mark Twain room and closet-sized reading area dedicated to the late LGBTQ trailblazer Harvey Milk. The prices also seemed reasonable, and it had a large enough selection that you can find something good to read no matter your reading preferences.
