I have used Spire for 18 years and paid my bills on time. They have provided good service for the majority of the time with very few issues...until I moved. I did the standard start service at the new house on this date and end service at the old house on this date. I thought every thing was good until a got a letter in the mail saying they noticed gas activity at my new house but no open account. Basically, get it fixed or we are shutting off your gas. I called their customer service and the person told me that letter was sent in error and she had fixed it on their side and no disconnect would happen. Cool, errors happen, there was a control in place on their side that caught it, and its fixed after calling. Then, a week later a Spire truck shows up at my house and I don't think anything of it because I called after I received that letter and they fixed it. They are just checking the meter to get caught up from their last error. Nothing to worry about, right? Wrong. They disconnected our service. No heat, no hot water. We didn't notice until the next day when our house was colder and our thermostat was showing an error. We almost called our hvac people because we had a similar error at the old house. But then we pieced it together that the water wasn't getting cold and the pilot light to the gas fireplace was out. So 2 errors on Spire. We're still waiting for them to reconnect our gas. I've been trying to contact Spire for over a week regarding property damage caused by work done at my home. The only response I've received is an automated email--not a single phone call, no email from a real person, nothing. There's still asphalt scattered in my lawn, the yard repair is poorly done and uneven, and my driveway is cracked--none of which has been addressed. The complete lack of communication is unacceptable and unprofessional. If you damage someone's property, the least you can do is acknowledge it and respond. At this point, I'm preparing to involve legal counsel just to get a basic response. Update: Made contact with Spire, they were kind but they did their job and attempted to save their company as much money as they could. We came to a reasonable conclusion, but it wasn't without more effort than I felt it should have taken. Had I not been persistent, I truly don't think this would have been resolved like it should be. This was much more difficult for people who didn't ask for a pipeline to be ran through their yard, only to receive mediocre repair work in their yards. The biggest victims here are the ones who didn't push to have their property fixed properly. I am still waiting on a yard contractor to contact me. The concrete damage has been addressed and concluded but I've yet to hear the update on my yard work, what's going to be done, and a time frame. read more

When I contacted customer service to explain the situation and request assistance, I was met with little empathy and no real effort to resolve the problem. Every interaction felt like they were more interested in collecting additional fees than helping a long-time customer. What is especially frustrating is the lack of accountability. Because gas service is often a monopoly in many areas, customers don't have the option to switch providers when they're treated unfairly. Spire has a collection practice of transferring bills to last known parties and placing on a bill they have a another address. They place it in very small print on the bill hoping it will just get paid. They do not verify if the transfer is to or from responsible parties. I got stuck out of the country because the U.S. started a war. By the time I could get home, my gas was off. No warning. no notification, no attention to a perfect record of payment, at 45 days from the due date. They choose to cut it off on Friday afternoon after 5 pm so you get to suffer all weekend. Then, they require you to be at home for THIRTEEN hours to wait on someone to reconnect it - 7AM to 8PM. It is totally unreasonable. Prices are so high for people as it is and when I get home from work one of their trucks is sitting in front of a house halfway blocking the driveway. At approximately 3:15 p.m. I arrived at home and the driver was sitting in the truck with the truck running and no one else around no work was being done and it did not leave that site until 4:50 p.m. Who knows how long the truck was sitting there before I got home but it was close to 2 hours after I got home before he pulled away. Awful. They turned off my gas on Thursday because I had not allowed an inspection that I had no idea I needed to allow. Cool. So now I'm expected to be able to wait around for 12 hour windows for someone to come do the inspection like I don't have a job. So on Monday the guy comes out to do the inspection, it's done in two minutes, but then I have to call to get it turned back on. Apparently the inspector can't turn it back on. It can be shut down remotely but can't be turned back on remotely. So now they want to set up another 12 hour window for me to be home. But I still have that job, you know. Does Spire think that people can just stay home entire working days waiting for them? Is that something Spire allows its employees to do? Somehow I imagine not . So now I'm waiting for manager to call me back, but I bet they won't. After all, why would they? It's not like I can not do business with Spire. At least not now. And all I'm trying to do is set up a time, a scheduled time, for someone to come to my house. A mutually agreed on, scheduled time. Like what you can do with an oil change place, a haircut, your doctor visit, any decent restaurant, I bet you set up meetings at your job all the time. But not Spire. Spire can't do that. I'm a senior citizen. I received a program card to pay bills. This start in January were their system will not take my card. I called customer service to ask why their system is not accepting my program card? The rep stated that their aware of the problem, and no time line when it would be fix. In the mean while my balance in steadily increasing. It shouldn't take a company that size too get the right programmer to fix that problem. read more

We had set up an appointment and had to reschedule for the next day due to inclement weather. They said they'd be there to set up gas and turn it on for us between 730am and 530pm. They never show up. Appointment shows on the website. Call after the window and they say that they'll be there before 730. No one shows up. Wait on hold for supervisor, get hung up on and no call back. I really wish they weren't the only company in our area because they're horrible so far. Not a great way to start with a new client. This is my experience for my time dealing with Spire. I gave 1* for exactly the reasons listed in these reviews. The customer service is abysmal . They have cornered the market in our area, their lax response time and utterly unprofessional customer service shows they have no competition in the market, so the company is not afraid to treat their consumer base like they do. We are giving them a go anyway. We finally have an appointment for the meter to be installed. I will come back to review that process. NOTE: GasPro and SECC were an absolute pleasure to deal with. I recommend both of those companies for your install to go smooth and leave your home in top shape. Spire Gas Company: SpireEnergy.com has all your servicing needs on their site. 1. In order to convert Electric to Natural Gas in the town of Vance, Alabama You must call Kristen at Spire 1-800-292-4008 for those with no computer 2. Once the conversion call is put in, Spire will not communicate all the steps necessary to complete the install. We painfully went through this process. So: A) Call Gas Pro (205)-720-9772 This company will install the gas lines inside your home for a fee. Make sure Gas Pro applies for and recieves a permit. (spire as well) B) Text your county inspector Johnny, Get him to come inspect. C) Notify Spire that your lines have been run in your home. They will schedule their 3rd party to come run your lines from the street to the risers where you want your meter placed. D) Spire/3rd Party will have inspectors come inspect again for leaks and such. E) Kristin will call to set up an appointment for the install tech to come place a meter. 3. I call in to customer service and after fighting with their automated voice system for a good 10 minutes I finally got through to a customer service employee. I paid my bill and my account is in good standing. Spoke to a customer service rep to ensure my gas was on today and she said "Yes, it is on right now." I get home from work at 6pm and the gas is not on. I call the customer service line at 620pm on hold for 50 min they never picked up my call. The call center closes at 7. I call back at 7:12 to call the 24hr line because there is some sort of problem. They tell me gas is not on call back tomorrow to deal with customer service and arrange for gas to be turned on. I made a special call to confirm I had gas service and was told "Yes, your payment went through no one has to be home for service to be turned on, it is on right now." I do not have service, they will not send someone over because it's not an emergency, but they sure took my payment. I spent a lot of money to have to get my phone call transferred to nowhere, wait on hold for no answer, and have the emergency night crew tell me too bad call back tomorrow. read more

This company bought out the gas company in our region and immediately closed down the office downtown. Now you can't go in person to the office to pay or make a request. They don't show you what you've paid or a breakdown of your bills. Mississippi customers are not allowed to created accounts online so they can check their balance or see a breakdown of their statements. The paper statements the company does send doesn't show you when you've paid or give you a breakdown of your statement. Only that you owe hundreds of dollars for "usage." You can't speak to anyone in person if you have an issue and they've been raising their prices ever since the acquisition. This past winter I was charge over 1,000 USD in a two month period. The prices just keep going up. Meanwhile, their CEOs rake in anywhere from 1 million to 5 million per year. They're making bank while they bleed out residents who can't afford their excessive price gouging. Spire Inc. is a truly terrible, predatory, and amoral company. read more

I call to have my gas shut off after getting married 2 yrs later I get a notification that my credit score went down 34 points go to see why and they didn't shut if off for 2 months then called me a liar saying I never called to have it shut off. I had a landlord reversion started on a property I had in 2018. I sold the property in 2020 and requested it to be canceled. It did not get canceled and it was reverted back to me. it went to collections and I had to pay it to get it off of my credit report. I emailed their forms again and they again said it would not be reverted back to me. Once again I called for another property and they said I had another bill because it was automatically reverted to my name. They will not take it off of my name even though I can clearly prove I don't own the property and have done so in the past. read more

Some of the lines were needing to be checked prior to activating service. I received a bill today for $110 because they said they have activated the service five months ago. We bought a new home and I called 2 weeks before we moved in to set up our account and turn on service the day we moved in. Moved in and over a month later they came out with no notice and turned our gas off - in 40 degree weather. Said it was due to an unpaid balance but we never received a bill or warning that it would be turned off. It has been 6 days now of calling and back and forth and our gas has still not been reconnected. I have talked to 4 different people from Spire, they don't keep notes on our account so I have to repeat myself every time I call. Apparently our account never got set up and the address was still under the original owners. Terrible service, terrible communication. Just bought a house in Kansas City, when I moved in the house flippewr I bought it from had an outstanding bill of $800 and had a lock placed on my gas meter, now they wont unlock it until the disbute is resolved leaving me in a house that is currently 56f without any hot water. I've paid on my monthly bill & still receive a disconnect literally in barely 14 days (spire tequesting the temaining balance on a bill that I paid on to avoid just that.They should since their billing is ridiculously high but no extentions offered with a $65 reconnect fee & possible deposit .So cost the customer close to the bill amount for extra fees instead if just giving an extention to save the customer costs & no pleasant customer service!!! I wish there were another ,more reasonable/affordable gas company available in my area for me to use for service. We had to reschedule our gas line to be moved 4 different times because Tammy at spire didn't know how to take payment. We had to move our gas line to fix our foundation. I found a note hanging on my door when I got home from work. on the front reads 'sorry we missed you'd . on the opposite side of the note, It said my meter needs to be changed and to call the one 800 number. after finally making it through all the props, I finally get a human. She says I have to schedule a day for them to come out. I gave her the days and times I'm available and she gave me the days and times they could come out. however, I never got an email to schedule. I never got a phone call to schedule. They just popped up today. now I have to rearrange my life between 7 AM and 8 PM just so they could come change a meter. then I get threatened that if I did not schedule an appointment, my spire will be cut off. Where do they do that at?
