Jelena was incredibly unprofessional and there was no response to my email, so I'm leaving a review. Agents throwing tantrums in FiDi seems to be a thing. This is because there exists the weird practice of how once one agent shows you a luxury building, then no other agent is "allowed" to or will get commission if they show you the same building, even if they show different units. The fact that this dumb rule exists isn't on me. One of the buildings I was supposed to see with Jelena was near another I just saw, so the agent decided to take me there. Only realized this after the fact but figured I could still see the other units Jelena had access to. Guess not. She didn't take it too well. read more

I compare chezi to the upscale small boutique style restaurant. He didnt ignore me or push me to buy/sign a lease like I have experienced with agents. Chezi is amazing to work with and Literally couldnt ask for a more professional sweet agent. Went to see an apartment that was represented by George from Spire group and loved it, so my roommate and I decided we were going to apply. He knew we were applying as he had to give us information on the application process, and waited until AFTER we submitted the application to tell us that there was already an application in on the apartment. IF the other application was rejected we would be next in line. So we were just out the $100 app fee each, he didn't offer us any assistance to get it back, didn't offer to help us find a comparable apartment, just completely ghosted us and left us out our money. It was his responsibility to be in communication with the landlord and guide us through the app process and he completely failed. Clearly Spire has lots of lovely agents according to the reviews, but George isn't one of Update: Finally got the money back a month later. Still was a very stressful situation and can't say I'd recommend but at least I got the money back eventually. read more

So last year I went through Dimitar with spite group and got the old bait and switch. First he showed us a unit and when we were ready to sign he had us come in and tell us it's not available and then showed me a unit that was on a lower floor and not as nice. We met up at a dunkin donut and walked me over to an apt. On the walk there I asked if he worked for Spire group he says yes. In my head I was like oh no this is gonna be a waste of time but I gave him a chance and told him my past experience. He was super friendly and never was pushy. He showed me one building and loved it he walked me out and had a nice chat and spoke to me about the process of applying. The next day he took me to another building and I loved that building even more. He's very well connected and knows the area and again he's never pushy or tells you any false info. Just started my search for an apartment and came across a few of their listings on several apartment sites so I reached out about these "too good to be true" places. When I asked questions, which I didn't think were difficult being a real estate company and all...they just wanted me to come meet them to show places. You can't answer a question with a question. Me: "is this a true 2 bedroom or a flex 2? is this apartment oct 1st move in?" Spire: "want to come see the apartment?" Me: "sorry you never answered my questions so i'm not sure if this apartment is for me" They were not listening to my needs or even respecting my move-in date....kind of important, but maybe that's just me.. If I say Oct 1st move-in date, NO an Oct 15th move-in is NOT okay...Will I be staying on your couch for those 15 days, sir? So I took the initiative -- not sure why because they should be working to help me (again. being their job and all)...but I just wanted to put the feelers out there to see if they were legit because at that point they had not impressed me. As every person who has ever searched for an apartment in NYC or anywhere else for that matter, you start with making a list of things that you want and can live without, prioritize you expectations on the places you are hunting for and create a budget and some buffer room in case you find one slightly above your original dollar amount. Yes, I actually know what I'm talking about - don't mess with me when I'm searching for my apartment - your games will not work. I sent my "must haves" and my "would be awesome if it had, but I can live without" list and I got the following message back. "That's a unbelievable un realistic, good luck" ...that's a not a real sentence first of all, thank you for taking the time to respond back to me. and second, Un-realistic? I've physically gone and seen other apartments with other brokers with these exact specs already this week -- thank you for not accepting the challenge of DOING YOUR JOB. I had the displeasure of working with George Ivanov when trying to find an apartment in Queens. When we began working together, he worked for the Manhattan Management Group, but began working with the Spire Group during the end of our transaction. I found him to be extremely unprofessional and he did not look out for my best interests. He was supposed to represent me, but instead led me into an awful situation where I had to wait 7 MONTHS for the apartment to be ready. During this time, he was unresponsive to calls and made me very nervous during the whole process. I wish my experience was an abnormality, but I also have a co-worker who worked with George and was being pressured by him to pay the broker fee before she even signed the lease. All George cares about is whether he gets paid, not the satisfaction of his clients. Finding an apartment in the city is difficult, but there are better people to work with. Ivan is the ideal broker: he was efficient, he respected my stated monthly budget (more than I did, even), and 4 of the 8 apartments he showed me had no broker fee. I highly recommend him, as he took a huge amount of stress off the table for me. I reached out to him via email to tell him what I was looking for and to ask if we could visit buildings on weekend days only, and he responded rapidly to set up a time for that Saturday. When we were waiting for leasing agents or elevators at each building, he made great use of our time by showing me building amenities like gyms and roof decks. When leasing agents asked if I wanted to see units slightly above my budget, Ivan pushed back on my behalf. He also recommended that I take a few hours after our meeting to calculate out which apartments would cost me less in the long run, and he suggested I select units that were offering no fee and a free month of rent. Even when I submitted my application, he followed up with me to confirm at each step that I was collecting all of the proper paperwork and keeping things moving along. For us, we dealt with Marcus twice, once when we moved in and once when we moved out. He makes promises he doesn't keep to get his brokers fee, he will con you however he can to get his brokers fee. Looking for apartments (especially when unplanned) is not so fun. Even with a healthy budget, it's quite daunting. I worked with the same broker for several years, however she recently retired. I decided to DIY and went on StreetEasy. I would see something that I like, and I would contact the broker. In the past two weeks I've had a bait and switch, had NO response to inquiries (don't you want to sell the apartment?), dealt with con artists... the works. There is indeed a silver lining: enter Chezi. He was the contact for one of the apartments that I was interested in. When we spoke on Monday, I told him of my want list and how I was available that day.. I took off work and I was stood up by another broker who was supposed to take me out to see apartments he had lined up for me but was suddenly "too busy." Chezi met up with me 3 hours later and lined up some viewings. The last and final place was what I was the most excited about.. and I was thrilled he was able to get us an appointment that day. It was downtown (where I currently live and wanted to stay), a gorgeous luxury building and right by the subway. And yes, it was love at first sight. This was the one. Chezi got to work on the apartment the next day and was extremely responsive through text.. even to my frantic messages (I am guessing brokers are therapists to a certain degree as well), ensuring me that all would be fine. He even organized the paperwork needed that I submitted over. Fast forward to Thursday (today)... not only did I get the apartment, Chezi also negotiated the price a bit to what I wanted, and we got it locked in for a two year agreement. I can't tell you enough how professional, easygoing and nice Chezi is.. in less than 72 hours, this burden is behind me and I can finally breathe easy.. and get some sleep. I have had two separate interactions with Spire Group. Both of which made me feel like they were snakes and tricking me left and right. First was with the agent Nikolay Antchev. My friend was looking for an apartment in the East Village and she said that there was a nice no-fee apartment with great pictures but no exact address except for the fact that the cursor was on 15th and 1st. She calls up the agents and they agree to meet at that street corner. I decided to go with them. At that street corner, we met Nikolay and he had her sign some forms to ensure that if the deal were to go through then he would get his commission. At this time, he still did not tell us where the apartment is. After the forms were done, he guides us to STUY TOWN, a place where we ourselves can just walk into the leasing office without an agent and get an apartment!!! Second was only a brief interaction with the agent Daniella Leon. I saw one of her listings on apartable.com and decided to call her about the 2 bedroom apartment. I gave her my criteria, number of bed, number of bath, etc, and when we got to the possibility of subletting, it was like she had never heard of just subletting a room before. (The situation was i had three other roommates and if we were to move in immediately then we would have to subletting two of the spots for two months.) She also insisted that all buildings would only allow one guarantor when I have heard of places with several guarantors. Lastly, what annoyed me the most was that when I asked for the exact address of the apartment, she would not give it to me. How am I supposed to be an educated customer if I don't know all of the details of where I might possibly be living. Moral of the story: They are all tricksters. read more

I know from my own real experience that Spire is conscientious, patient and supremely helpful. Their listing shows literally thousands of apartments, which is very obvious to anyone who has searched for apartments in New York to be a blanket listings. It's not bait and switch, get it right. We went through Nikolay for our apartment, who was not only one of the nicest people (even offered to help us move), but was also incredibly helpful in finding the best place and location for our price range. As our viewings progressed, he made real-time adjustments to find places based on what he thought we were looking for, and he was absolutely spot on. Seriously, Nikolay made the shit experience of finding an apartment in NYC actually quite enjoyable. I have recommended him to several people and we have all had great experiences with him. We eventually wanted to find office spaces and went through Darius, who looks like a Darius, but was equally nice and friendly, and incredibly responsive. Darius was very professional and thorough in scoping the commercial leases available within the area we were looking for. We managed to check places out that weren't even on the market yet. For all the people who have shitty experiences, get off your high horse or work in the service industry. You pay for the service, and that's what you get - awesome service. I just found an apartment with the help of Justin Tolliver at Spire. Justin was a huge help and made the process of finding an apartment so much easier than it usually is. From the moment I met Justin he was courteous, professional and very attentive. Within a day of meeting he sent me several emails with options in my price range and desired neighborhoods. After reviewing and telling him which ones I liked he set up a day of touring apartments and scheduled them so they were all easy and time effective. Once I found the apartment I wanted he then went into negotiation mode with the listing brokerage to get me the best deal and lowest fee possible. A couple of weeks ago, I came to NYC from Georgia to interview for a job. Having never been to NYC, I started calling brokers once my successful interview had completed. I ended up dropping all of the other ones when I came in contact with Debi Brown. She was the first broker who kept in excellent contact with me from the get go. She knew me better than I new NYC straight off, and was able to match me with one of the best possible areas of NYC when i THOUGHT I already had my area picked out elsewhere. Debi had VERY little time (2 days) to understand what I wanted for my limited budget and my THREE DOGS. She showed me around eight apartments, worked with me and the real estate company, and got me leased to a great apartment with two bedrooms. My apartment is on the bus line that takes me to work (It stops in FRONT OF MY WINDOW!!!!), is on amsterdam a block from Broadway, is a block form the subway, and is a couple of blocks from both Central and Riverside park. After the lease was signed, Debi even came to my apartment at 11:00 PM and helped me move in a 17-foot UHAUL while in rain! She didn't go home until 2:00 AM. I can't begin tell you how amazing Debi has been to my dogs and me. I never write reviews because I simply don't care that much, but in this case, I'm more than happy to write one for her. She has definitely made my move to NYC an extremely pleasant experience, and I highly recommend her. She wont try to over sell and will work hard for you. I don't know how most apartment hunting experiences go, but I'm glad to say that I have made a friendship and not just a business contact (even though she was amazing and I'll use her again in the future)! - Blake. read more
