Though I am a very frequent flyer, today is my first time flying with Spirit, and even out of Terminal 3. It has been a good experience, so far! My flight is on time, the plane staff is funny and the Sri Lankan lady who checked me in was super sweet and helpful. Spirit Airlines is one of many airlines that only charges you for the services you actually need. That's one great thing about them if you travel light, like I do. If you like to check in at the airport instead of at home, check or take -on luggage, choose your seat or board early, understand that you'll be paying extra for it. I'm just glad they give me the option to decline those services instead of writing them into a higher ticket price. That's why I call these airlines "a large carte " carriers. :-) I'd recommend Spirit Airlines to friends and would take them again myself. BTW, terminal 3 only has a Starbucks, Wendy's And Mexican place for food so plan ahead of those don't sound good to you! See ya there! read more

If I could give less than 1 star, I would. It began with Spirit changing my flight time from an early AM to the previous day PM flight and offering only a reservation credit. Then to book and use that credit, their website was malfunctioning which forced me to have to call a representative, to which they were going to charge me additional costs for needing to speak with someone and waste hours of my time. I have spent hours in their "chat" waiting to speak with someone as to avoid representative charges and was never answered. I've sent emails and get automated responses only. This was the most awful airline experience ever. We booked of course for the low fairs and when we got to the airport we had to pay an additional $315 for our bags. This airline does not provide a free carry on, you get one free "personal item" that cannot be bigger than a purse. This was the worst experience ever. read more

Just finished a Christmas trip and I rarely write reviews but I think that this airlines should be called out. I will NEVER fly with this airlines ever again. Your carry on bag is more expensive than to check a bag in. First off, I did not know I had to pay an extra $50 for my 2nd small bag until I got to the airport so that was a surprise but it is not the end of the world so I paid and went on. The seats do not recline. Most uncomfortable sitting arrangements I have ever had during a flight. There is no complimentary drinks of any kind and water is $3.00. The plane itself was old and was not very clean. The reason I am giving this review 2 stars because the staff was upbeat and friendly and I laughed a few times during their announcements so that is my plus. This company is horrible. The worst customer service on the planet. They send multiple emails to get you to buy seats. So I bought exit row seats but when we got to the gate found the plane must have changed because they were no longer the exit rows (and it's clear they were supposed to be because the price was $36 each when the regular seats that are usually $15-17). I got some run around that seats are randomly assigned at boarding so this did not apply so they will not make this right. What??? This was after three different employees at the airport said I should be refunded this cost. In texting to inquire as directed it took 60 (60!) hours for someone to respond. Very bad experience . I went to document my luggage and i was 4lbs over the limit they charge me 110 dls for only 4pounds. The lady behind the counter's name was Briana. I told her i can get some things out and put it in another bag which was the carry on for free that spirit offers. And she said it wasnt possible . Whn i have read in the spirit luggage policy that a free carry on is included . So i had to pay 110 dls . whn she finish documenting my luggage she did not give me the ticket that is given to the passangers so they can find it if lost .then i had to asked her to give me the ticket of my luggage. Very rude .whn in the airplane. I ask for water to take a pill and they charge me 3.00 dls for water. Honestly i had a very bad experience. My first and last time flying with spirit. The ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE!!! First, this has nothing to do with a "location". I booked through AAA, which by the way is always the best and most smooth process ever. The morning on my flight, I log into spirit airlines, I couldn't log in because it kept saying they couldn't locate my reservation. I didn't have an hour to wait on hold and try to figure it out. I go to the airport and have to pay $50 per bag!!!!! When their own system didn't allow me to log on!!!! The reservation guy at the counter said, oh you should've taken a screen shot and we would've honored $40, and to call spirit airlines when I had the chance and try to discuss it with them and explain what happened... After over one entire hour they wouldn't even give me a $10 per bag credit! Yet on my flight, even if you put phony information in and filled out the credit card application, they were going to give me a free one way flight and if I qualified! I would've received a 3 FREE round-trip tickets!!! 15000 miles, even if I never used the credit card! But a $30 bag credit that wasn't even my fault to begin with was asking tooooo much. I overheard SEVERAL customers in line COMPLAINING about how one person couldn't get the reservation to pull up, others had problems printing their boarding pass, one girl and her 4 friends the girl was crying hysterically because THEY never received any email about the "canceled flight" that she couldn't afford and they wouldn't refund her money!! She was a young girl and her young 20s and nobody would help her at the airport, basically they screwed over her and 4 friends!! I booked a three leg trip, have you ever in your life heard of an airline charging you twice for baggage because your flight from Denver to Minneapolis stops in Chicago and you have to switch the flight so I was charged TWO baggage fees for my final destination!!!! Over whelming amount of negative experiences I've had with Spirit airlines needs to be known to the public! Everyone needs to know that Spirit Airlines charges $3.50 for a glass of water! Which includes basically the rest of the small bottle. This is the sickest most disgusting experience I have ever had in my life, and none of the seats even reclined!!!! For me to go from Los Angeles to Denver (3bags $150), Denver to Minneapolis (2 bags $160, because they charge for the plane switch!!!) Minneapolis back to Los Angeles($80), cost me $390 in baggage fees! This is what you call a "legal" rip off!!! It does not cost us airline anymore money whether I pay $30 at reservation time on line or if I pay at the airport. Spirit Airlines is the worst airlines out there. Do not fly them. On Friday night my son had a flight from Phoenix to Chicago and when he got to the airport he checked in and got his bag checked. He then got his bag and waited in line at the ticket counter to drop his bag off. The agent at the counter was working with some one in front of him after the agent finished with them he left and never came back. Since there was no other Spirit Agent around he missed his flight. I then spent an hour on the phone Friday night with 6 different Spirit Agents and getting disconnected twice. All of the told them they could put him on another flight but that it would cost us $99.00 to make the change. They wanted to charge us for an issue they created. Finally some one we spoke to was able rebook him on another flight on Sunday morning and waive the fee and just charge us the difference in the fare which was $56.41. At least I think that was how it worked everyone we spoke to had thick accents and bad phone connections so it made it difficult to understand. However we still had to pay for an issue created by Spirit Airlines. On Sunday morning we drove to the airport checked him in made sure his bag was picked up and I went with him to security. I then drive home only to get a call from him an hour later saying that Spirit does not have a seat for him. They can rebook him on a flight on Tuesday, but since his return flight was Wednesday this was unacceptable. They said they could give him a full refund and that they would send his luggage back to Phoenix on the next flight. Now when we call the airline they say he was a no show and there is no record of his conversation with the agents. We have no idea where his bag is or the refund or when we will get any of this back. This airline wants to blame their customers and not take any responsibility for their actions. read more

This airlines now flies out of Sky Harbor, but I would generally concur with the 2-star overall rating of this airlines. Yes, the prices are rock-bottom (even for last-minute booked flights), which is the ONLY reason anyone would ever want to consider flying with this business. Because you can expect every single flight to be delayed at least one hour. (That's been my experience after about a half-dozen flights.) And even though their website is up-to-date on flight times, if an incoming plane lands, they will quickly shuttle you onto that plane (calling "All zones") like scurrying rats, and you may actually leave BEFORE the time posted on their website. So beware if you think you have a boatload of time before takeoff only to find out the flight has already left the terminal when you arrive at your departure gate! My most-recent flight experience was like eating fresh fish from the latest oil-spill incident. The flight was (as usual) initially posted as delayed more than an hour, but that wasn't the big problem. Which occurred after the flight we were waiting on finally arrived, and we passengers were herded onto that plane like a fast-rushing river (presumably so we wouldn't arrive as late getting to our destination); where most of us then proceeded to sit on the plane - packed like 12 oz. of sardines jammed into 8 oz. cans - in just 5 airplane rows (while the rest of the seats on the entire plane were nearly empty) for two solid two hours before taking off! That, given very limited legroom on this airline, was not much fun. (Especially since we still had a 3-hour flight still ahead of us.) I'm not sure if this is a common practice with this airlines or not to have people sit on a plane for hours prior to takeoff, but to rush passengers onto the plane like a mad dash to get out of a burning building, and then have us sit packed together like roll of coins for two hours seemed (to me) to indicate a serious lack of good judgment on the part of the employees of this airlines; to even have the passengers board in the first place (for a flight that wouldn't be taking off for another two hours) was (in my opinion) a mistake. For it was only the AFTER the plane was leaving that we were told the plane (flying out of Minneapolis) suddenly needed to be "de-iced," but (I ask you) wasn't this fact known to this airlines BEFORE the mad dash of passengers onto the plane? And this is what took 2 solid hours for us to finally take off? Also, we were specifically instructed not to move to other seats until after takeoff (but that turned out to be two hours later) to "balance" out the plane. I can tell you this, it's not the passengers who need to be more "balanced." But this sort of thing is typical with this airlines. It reminds me of public transportation, whereby standard operating procedure is run by-the-seat-of-their-pants. You get what you pay for with Spirit Airlines. So, to say the least, this latest experience of typical delays and lack of good judgment by this airlines left me with a sour taste in my mouth, the sound of the snap of the rubber glove, and the smell of a big box of week-old mackerel; and will likely be the last straw with me and this airlines, low prices or not, until they clean up their act. By far the worst airline operating in america. I booked a trip with these jokers to attend a wedding in Cancun. I chose them because others in the party were already flying with them. Their customer service is the worst part of the entire experience. I can't stress enough how insanely incompetent this airline is. If you have the choice between using Spirit Airlines or paying $1,000 to have your balls kicked by a horse, choose the horse; it will hurt less. My original cost was $563.38. Thought this was a decent price, considering rivals were $200-$300 higher. They only had limited times and routes available. Was on their red eye (12:55am) flight, arriving at 05:04a. The layover in Dallas was until 12:37p. After waiting the excruciatingly long layover (7.5 hours), was informed of a delay. Kept delaying the flight until 7pm, at which point they simply canceled the flight and told us we all had to go to the ticket counter to "re book". A full 13 hours of layover, just to be canceled. I tried calling the help number, but was told that since I was already half way through my trip (remember, I started in Phx), they couldn't help me at all. Only the local dallas staff could. I waited in line with all of the other irate customers for an hour before being told that they couldn't get me to Cancun for 2 more days. This would have meant missing the wedding, which was the entire point of the trip. At this point I was forced to make a decision, which was to chose another airline to get me to cancun. Got on the next flight out with American Airlines - cost to me $1369, one way. Made it on time to Cancun for the wedding, but had to go shopping as soon as I got there, as my bags would not arrive in cancun on time for the wedding. Another $450 cost to me. Then on the way back, they delayed our flight from Cancun to Dallas by an hour. Then they diverted our flight from Dallas to Houston. Once in houston, they had no idea when they would be able to get me back to Phoenix. Since I had very important business meetings the next day, I again was forced to buy a one way ticket with another airline (United), $750 more out of pocket. Got home on time, made my meetings, but now I'm licking my wounds from this trip from hell. All in all, $2569, on top of the $563.38. When I asked for a refund, I was told "You can not have a refund for the PHX-DAL, and CUN-HOU legs, as those were used.". My response was, "Why the hell would I pay you to get me stranded in cities half way between my starting and destination points?". Never, ever fly with this airline. read more

If I could give this airline zero stars I would do that in a heartbeat. They upcharge you to bring a carry on item (a free service provided by nearly every airline provider) as well as charge you to check-in at the airport. They nickel and dime you at every potential turn which makes the stressful process of planning a trip even more grueling. In an attempt to save $20 on check-in fees, I used their online check-in service which then brought me to a webpage where I could print off my tickets. As I am on vacation, and not near a printer, I saved the document hoping to print it later. However, when I later tried to print my boarding passes they would not come up (off the saved document or the original email). I was then thrown into a wormhole of awful customer service and waiting. I finally got my boarding passes. It is absurd to me that an online check-in service that is meant to be easy and convenient could be so difficult to use. I flew American Airlines recently and the online check-in took no more than three minutes and digital boarding passes were sent straight to my phone. Long story short, this airline is the worst I've ever flown and I haven't even stepped foot on the plane yet. read more

I swore I would never fly on Spirit again . . . but in my short-sighted frustration, I forgot to read the small legal print on a page that was hard to find . . . so, one year later I was charged another $69.95 . . . which, of course, (now that I have read the fine print) is NON-REFUNDABLE! This is an airlines based on false advertising. They market themselves as a bargain, cheap flight carrier but far from their reality. Ticket prices are discounted yes, but all of the add-ons are far more expensive than any other carrier, for example a checked bag is $40. The more surprising part of the experience is that there is no complimentary beverage service - they even charge for water! At the gate I had a purse and a brief case but was made to pay $65 to bring my briefcase on although both items could easily have fit under the seat in front of me. There are no video monitors, no plug ins for devices, in short absolutely no services or features and lots of small print up charges. Terrible airlines, will never consider them again. read more

Horrible customer service! I have flown with Spirit before and had good experiences. However, this last experience was extremely disappointing. I bought a plane ticket a couple of months ago for a flight in August. I also bought the insurance (which was advertised with the purchase) in the event I needed to cancel. The flight was for a training conference and sure enough my job title changed and the training was no longer applicable. I canceled the trip and applied for a full refund and was turned down. I filed a factual on-line complaint/review with Spirit Airlines and they refused to post it. It's sad how much they milk every penny out of what was once a returning customer. Tips: 1) Don't bother buying the insurance unless you think you will encounter some kind of catastrophic event. 2)Don't pay for baggage ahead of time because they won't even reimburse for that. 3) If you have to cancel, wait until the last minute so the airline will have a harder time getting paid again for the same seat. read more

Well so far off to a bad start... I've been trying to correct an error on a ticket I purchased for my kid, however Spirit Customer service and corporate office both referred me to the Spirit counter at Sky Harbor. I was told by Spirit, the counter only opens at 10:30pm... AND their recording says the exact same thing. Yet, after waiting 24hrs to address this, I arrived at 10:15pm ...and the rep says, "Read the sign ma'am, we open at 11pm." REALLY??! At 11pm I walk up to the counter and explained the issue. The rep says there is nothing she can do. She says that Spirit does not book or check flights at the counter. She even said there was no supervisor until the morning, and I need to come back. Well long and behold, the supervisor was actually there, in the back. She came out, apologied for the rep's bad customer service and lies, she then fixed the issue, re-booked the flight and even gave me a discount! Yey for that supervisor!! She definitely turned that situation around for me. So I'm giving Spirit 3 stars only because the supervisor stepped up and helped me. read more

I have taken Spirit Airlines a few times and recently had a flight that got delayed 4 hours without much explanation. A lot of their flights seem to get delayed so choosing this low cost airline isn't always the best option. The staff was friendly but they all seemed very new to the industry. Had flights round trip from Phoenix to Dallas. I was traveling with my husband and 4 kids, one being a month old infant. Other than cheap prices horrible everything else. Delayed flight 4 times. Finally cancelled and flew southwest because they delayed until the next day, return flight delayed 4 times, then people at counter were arguing with us. Our flight said delayed and they changed it and then told us we weren't going to make it. Employee argued with my husband then I asked what time did the flight actually leave and he was rude to me and said it didn't matter I should've been there 45 minutes before. We had a flat tire on the way to the airport but he said it doesn't matter. Even though we were there 45 minutes before the time given in the delay notice. They said they go off of original time. Inconsistent flight crew who lie about their policies. On all Spirit flights I've ever taken before, the crew have been happy to let someone move to open seats when everyone is on board. On flight 342 PHX-MSP today, this was refused and I was initially told I had to be in my assigned seat for takeoff. Again, never refused like this before on Spirit. I asked if I could move after takeoff, then told by same attendant that the seats were "reserved", so no. Sad that one flight attendant feels the need to show her power in such a petty way with lying to boot. Had good experiences on Spirit on previous flights, but I think I'll be taking Delta again in the future to get better service even if I have to pay $20-40 more. Spirit Airlines is NOT low cost! I expect a low cost airline to actually be lower in cost than other airlines. However, NOT by feeing everything to death! Fees for carry-on, fees for checked bags, fees for even non-upgraded seating, fees for boarding passes if not printed at home, fees for water, soda, and snacks......by the time you're through, you'll have spent far more than other airlines. She stated that my flight has be delayed to 11:53am. I went back home to rest to a close friend house by the airport. I woke up at 6am checking emails saw that my flight flew out at 2am. Worst customer service ever. I'll never book with them again. I called over a month before my flight to cancel because my mom was diagnosed with aggressive breast cancer and would be starting chemo right away, so we decided to drive and stay for over a month to help with her appointments. They first tried to get me to book a different flight, so I reiterated that we drove and wouldn't need a flight at all. They then cancelled my flight, charging me $120 per person to cancel. They then told me they were "refunding" $130 in the form of Spirit Airlines credit... that has to be used in the next 60 days. Obviously, I won't need the credit, but an actual refund would have been appreciated to help with other expenses. It's a budget airline, period. What most people fail to understand is the difference between a budget airline like spirit vs a legacy airline like delta. Having flown spirit, I had a great experience. Airplane was brand new, service was good and on time. Bring your own water from the water fountain at the airport and you'll be fine. If you pay attention to the online booking information that spirit makes extremely easy to access, you'll have no baggage fee surprises at the airport. Be responsible and don't blame the airline for your lack of effort to read what you are buying. read more

Spirit airlines is the worst! I took a flight from Phoenix to Chicago. Extremely uncomfortable, so much that You can forget about relaxing. The seats seriously one long bench per row, with no ability to recline them. Lots of airlines serve pretzels, this airline serves mixed nuts. I am severely allergic as many others are. I was stuck in this cabin with the smell of the nuts. While welts were appearing on me. I called their corporate office and was told it's standard to serve nuts. Why should they care of they kill someone. They have already made their money off of you. The baggage fees are ridiculous. Add all of their fees and you could have booked on a better airline. They remind me of that movie Soul Plane, with Kevin Hart!! Never will I fly with them again, I advise anyone on here or who I encounter face to face to never fly with spirit!! Especially if you have nut allergies, unless you want to become a spirit!! When I called their uncaring attitude, further put a seal on the coffin!! I was extremely disappointed flying this airline. Let me start to say... this airline will do everything in their power to penny and dime you until you get off the plane. I have heard bad reviews on this airline but had tried it for myself and it will be the last time. The staff is extremely rude and obviously did not care about my satisfaction. I couldn't even get water on the plane without getting charged... you'll have to ask for ice cubes and wait until they melt to get some water... I had spent over $350 just checking in bags and carry ons and an emergency flight switch they obviously did not care about. It's understandable when a flight may be almost full but the check in attendant said there was plenty and of seating available... so just charge a first time flyer 2 days before Christmas $200 to fly out the next day. I would rather fly united than this airline. This was a bad experience from the get go. Wish I would've spent the time and money elsewhere... /: read more

I don't recommend this airline company to anyone. My luggage was torn and I reported it but because I was out of the reporting window by a few minutes all I got was a $50 voucher. The flight was delayed because of a caution warning because they didn't fully inspect the aircraft. Never again will I fly Spirit and I will let others know the same. Save your money and time and go to a more reputable Airline. read more

I tried to give zero stars but Yelp won't let me. So a couple of years ago I thought that I would grab some cheap tickets for a quick trip to Colorado to see family. Not only was this airline the worst flight experience that I have ever had they somehow signed me up for their club. Ya, its on me that I missed their $69.95 charge for this last year but today they hit me again. This time I noticed it and got them to reverse the charge and cancel the membership.
