I would give them ZERO stars if I could. Our street is clearly marked for more than 1.2 miles, NO TRUCKS, DEAD END, NO TURN AROUND, and ONE LANE ROAD. The only way I am waiting in a 20 person deep line at check out with only one person checking is if I need life saving medicine. Over priced plastic is not life saving medicine. It's supposed to be fun. It's fun to look around, try on a few masks, and have a few laughs. Trick or treat right? The trick is the amount of time required to pay them. I love Spirit Halloween. . . OK, so I love Halloween in general. But, Spirit puts me in the. . . well you know. . . The staff is always really friendly and helpful when I am in the store. They do some cool displays. I just wish that ALL of the 'show' decor (ie; animatronics on display) would work correctly. I realize that the stupid customer will try to move, or touch the creatures, and then they fall down, or stop working. . . But, the staff should stay up on getting them back in working order quickly. read more

This is a great Halloween Store. It has a huge variety of costumes for any age. It was clean and organized. The staff was friendly, helpful and professional. The prices for the most part were reasonable. The store also had decorations and party supplies. It's a one-stop-shop. I was able to complete my Halloween shopping in less than an hour, for a family of four. Warning: You could possibly get carried away in this store looking at all of the wonderful costumes they have available. Some areas are definitely not for children, so closely monitor your little ones - especially i they are curious creatures. read more

CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS HERE!! ARGHHHH!!! But before I go further let me start by saying the location of this Spirit is amazing! Located right next to the plaza and Ice Cream shop this Spirit is HUGE! I previously went to the located in Hayward at the mall and the size doesn't even compare to the one here in Castro Valley. I walked in on 10/21/15 and was in awe at the many different variety of costumes they have not only for young children but for adults and plus sizes as well. The store has a section for the children near the cash register but for adults it's kind of all over the place. I was able to find 2 costumes that I actually liked and didn't look like a 90 year old costume but please note that it took me 1 hour to find those 2 costumes. The store doesn't have bathrooms so before I tried on my two costumes I wanted to be able to use the restroom. The only located was the ice cream shop. I asked a young worker by the name of Tiffany if I wanted to use the restroom would they be able to use the restroom and come back. Tiffany the worker assured me that they can hold costumes until they close and even told me they close at 9P.M. So instead of going there I drove home and returned back to the store at 8PM. I wanted back in the store and approached Tiffany. She looked dumbfounded and stated that one of the costumes she was holding was missing! WTF? How is that possible and I literally was gone for 20 minutes. She blamed another worker and stated the worker must have picked up the costume and placed it back on the shelf. OMG! ARE YOU SERIOUS....Mind you it took me 1 hour to find the 2 costumes AND THEY HAD NO MORE IN MY SIZE!! I was TOTALLY frustrated and upset but what really put the fire on the candle was Tiffany didn't even help look for it she just looked at me and said, "Yup, I don't see it here someone must have took it". I looked at her in disbelief as she then ignored me and turned her attention to another person and continued doing her work! I stood there for at least 3 minutes until she finished her conversation and asked her, "So that's it? Your just like oh well nothing you can do?" Tiffany then responded, "You can go back on the shelves and look for it but it's not here with me and to be honest I am not supposed to hold items for anyone". OHHHHHHH....so NOW you trynna cover your bullshit up!! OH NA NA NA!! I asked her for her manager's name as I realized we weren't getting anywhere! I then walked to the cash register and asked for the manager. I asked the manager for her name, "Is your name Mia or Mya?" The Manager responds, "Whatever sounds nicer too you...now how can I help you". WTF!! Did you just get at me like that!! I tell her the situation and after I'm done explaining she tells me, "You can go talk to Tiffany and tell her to help you find the costume". WTFFFFF!! " I'm coming to you as the MANAGER! That's your job to help the situation now tell me to go do your job!!" She then (with an attitude) walks to the back and as she is walking...I'm pissed and complaining about taking it to hire management as the customer service SUCKSS.... I walk to the back and all the sudden Tiffany finds my costume and says, "I just found it right here next to me". BULLSHITT!! This place is a joke!! I wanted to get my costume and get the hell out of there! What is going on with the customer service in this peace yo!! Out of all the spirit stores Ive ever been to, I have to admit that this is by far the cleanest & most organized of them all. The staff was more than willing to help me find what I was looking for & point me in the right direction of what accessories would go with my costume & my kids. I was a bit frustrated that I stood in the non-existent line & stared at the guy for a good 5 mins before he helped me... but he made up for it when I asked about the online coupon what I left (20%) off 1 item, but instead, he gave me 10% off my entire purchase! I purchased a costume worth $300 from the Oshawa location. When I got home the receipt wasn't in the bag which didn't matter at the time as I had planned on keeping the costume. My friends decided to change our theme to fortnite characters. I went to the store to see if I could exchange the costume and I was told NO because I didn't have the receipt. Everything was unworn in packaging and all I wanted to was exchange. I then proceeded to call the franchise and was told the same thing that there was nothing they could do for me. This is very upsetting as every Halloween I buy my costume here along with decorations and usually spend close to $1000 a year at this store. I loved this store but this has put a sour taste in my mouth and I won't be back unfortunately. $300 lost for a costume I will never wear. WARNING make sure you have your receipt when you leave the store. Lesson learned. read more

Large selection. Very unorganized. A bunch of broken merchandise on the floor. Plus terrible customer service. All the employees were acting like they didn't want to be there or help anyone. But there was one that especially stuck out. I wish I had gotten her name. I was picking up a costume that had fallen out of the package onto the floor and as I was folding it a young girl walked by and said "trying on costumes is not allowed out here. There is a dressing room right there." and as I began to tell her I wasnt trying it on, I was trying to replace it nicely in its package for them because it was on the floor under the display, she rolls her eyes and continues walking past me without listening to me. If you feel the need to correct someone, especially your customer, at least respect them enough to look them in face when you talk to them and not walk away without even giving basic courtesy. read more

I used to go here every year to get my kids halloween costumes but it has gone downhill and for the amount of money that everything from spirit costs its just not worth it to pay 50 dollars for a halloween costume or anything that has been opened and rummaged through with missing pieces or has been on the dirty floor. This place its pretty grungy. There is a place right down the road on castro valley blvd called collectors row i think? anyway they have a wayyyyyy better mask selection and have some really hard to find ones with a clean store and friendly service. I was able to find a high quality jason mask for my 13 year old there. I wont be going back to this spirit location. read more
