I had been to the Vom Fass in SF, but this one was different. On the plus side, it had liqueurs, which was very interesting. And they offer tastings of anything, so you can try before you buy. And almost everything is really yummy. On the minus side, the pricing is a little confusing. They price by ounce, but I believe you have to buy the bottle separately, and that adds up. And you can bring in a bottle, but I think it has to be one of theirs. Not quite sure on this part. Also, the staff tries to give everyone personal service, which means they will spend a lot of time with you. However, if there are more than a few people in the shop, most of them are either waiting for help or feeling ignored. They have some very lovely gift sets, which would be great for hostess gifts. read more

My sister and I were strolling around shopping and wandered into Spirits and Spice because it looked interesting. I thought we would take a quick spin through and be on our way but we were greeted by David and ended up spending an hour and $150! David is awesome, we were so impressed by his knowledge of so many spirits!! We talked about how nice and knowledgeable he was for the rest of the afternoon. He also didn't have the condescending air you often find in sommoliers and other experts. He taught us about absinthe even though we were pretty clear we weren't buying and honestly didn't even want to taste it until after he schooled us. Most impressive though was the whiskey selection, he helped me choose the most adorable and unusual whiskey tower for a Christmas present based on what I told him were my friends preferences! Everyone I have showed it to is in live with it. It is an expensive store but my experience made it worth every penny. David even told us there is one opening in Chicago and I can't wait, but I do wish he would be working there!! read more

INCREDIBLY OVERPRICED!!! We thought we had found a very nice tequila which we paid highly for $249, only to return home and see we can get the EXACT same bottle for $100. We immediately called the store owner to request a refund and she said we could return it. After some trouble getting it shipped back we learned that it "arrived broken" and there was nothing they could do. Such a rip off and POOR customer service. There was supposed to be a whiskey tasting class at 5pm. The unfriendly lady in the store told me that it included 5 different whiskies. I got to the store at 5:15 and asked if it was too late for me to join the class. The lady said the class was at 5. There wasn't a soul in the store and no way that the class was over. I liked the idea of it and they had a large variety of liquors and olive oils that I enjoyed. What I did not enjoy is how rude hank was. I walked in asked to sample the various drinks he gave me glass and walked away helping others which I understand but he never came back to see if I needed help. I then just handed my spouse the glass so she could try a little then he came over and said we couldn't sample on our own. Which ok than why couldn't he help me so I wasn't on my own. He than took my glass ignored me and when I tried to get further help still ignored me, I was unable to sample any further drinks. I only had sampled 3. Potentially a very nice place to shop, but, horrible customer service. I have visited this store on two occasions and have been ignored both times. The first time the store was empty. The second time there was only one other couple in the shop. I would have been satisfied to wait for service if someone had the courtesy to acknowledge me with a smile or "be with you in a moment". This was my very first time at Vom Fass! This place is amazing... Hank walked us through the whole store and explained all the drinks offered, what they were made from, how to mix them for drinks etc. We taste tested and Hank was a great form of entertainment. Interesting but expensive. Sales clerk noticed my military id AFTER purchasing about $140 worth of items and said I could get the discount on next visit on whatever items I would buy. Should have asked her to re-ring items and give me the discount. Loved this place! We got there really early which was good. it seemed to get busier as the day went by (and we passed it strolling around). David was incredibly knowledgeable. he helped us to taste different things (some I never would have tried), gave amazing history on the spirits, their taste, and how best to drink them. I left with nearly $200 worth of stuff because he was such a delight to learn from. Would highly recommend this place to try new tastes - wine, spirits, oils, vinegars. To start, I have to say that the concept of this place is really cool. They have, what appears to be, a very different selection of liquors that you won't find other places. The cool part here is that everything is in a clear bottle or cask that allows them to pour you a small sample. Being a Scotch lover, I was instantly in heaven when I walked in and saw their selection. (They also have olive oils, etc but I will get into that a bit later) So by this point you're probably wondering why I gave the place a single star. Well for starters the place is WAY overpriced. Some things I did recognize where priced about 20-30% higher than a chain liquor store. Now I can forgive this to a point because they have some very hard to find things (if not impossible elsewhere) and you can buy them buy 100ml, 400ml and 750 ml (plus you can sample!!). The major downfall of this place is that the staff (at least the ones I met) were total jerks. They had a complete attitude and were very condescending when ever I would ask a question. I'm sorry but if I am considering spending $180-200 on a bottle if scotch, you'd better be cheerful and willing to spend a minute or two telling me about the product. I only had a single sample (unlike others in the store who were trying just about everything on the shelf) but I was treated as if I had no place in the store and would be better served to leave, so I did. This place is the typical tourist trap. You can go anywhere to try olive oil and balsamic (and find people with better attitudes) but this was the first place that I've seen who does liquor tasting. However if you don't want people trying the product, either charge or don't give samples. read more

Me and some friends were checking out the shops at Tlaquepaque and found this place interesting. We walked in and when we asked for some help the lady was lecturing us on how we can only taste if we have the intention to buy and then asks what can we afford and what is our price range (with a bit of attitude). I immediately walked out. We walked in with every intension to buy wine I was interested in and a Tequila my husband was interested in, but I will not be treated like a teenager with no money. If I am asking for a sample it is because I am interested and most importantly CAN afford what I am interested in. Poor business judgement, dont like businesses that profile people. Lady the most expensive tequila we were looking at was $100, I buy more expensive whiskey so do yourself a favor and let someone else handle the customer service who will not come across as a rude condescending person. I for one will not come back. I decided not to give them my money. Oh yeah I guess its best to mention that guys were in normal jeans, sweaters and hat attire and my friend and I were kind of dressed up, which made it even more offensive because its not like we were dressed poorly (not that this place is fancy at all). read more

Judgmental staff like the reviews say. I wanted to pick up something nice after my hike to enjoy at my room. So I admit I wasn't dressed to impress but Sedona is a nature town. I was very specific on what I wanted to try. I wanted Islay whiskey. They had a few selections but I know my favorite two distilleries. None of them were worth the price they wanted to charge. Then I noticed they had Armagnac. So I asked to try those two. The man giving me the tasters said it was 25$ to taste the one. (Which is surprising because I tasted the 400$ scotch for free but the 100$ Armagnac is 25$ to taste? And this was going to be my 4th sipper)anyways I told him pour the taster and while pouring it he kept reiterating "a 25$ taster, here is your 25$ taster, I'll remove the cost if you buy the bottle" I did decide to buy the other Armagnac which was more expensive and he must have been shocked and said "well I guess I'll only charge you half". But if bought the more expensive one why did you still charge? Besides that dude, They had a great selection. The creme de roses and absinthe caught my eye but I was worried I would have walked out with a 200$ tasting tab when I can get a full size pour for 25$ or less. read more

This place is terrible. My husband and I walked in on Friday night, there was only one other couple in the store. We weren't even greeted. When I saw they also had specialty liquors, I was very intrigued. My husband and dad love whiskey and I mentioned it would be great for my husband to pick one for my dad as a Christmas present. The lady that was helping the other couple didn't even budge. The other man that was working in the store squeezed right in front of us to put new tasting glasses in the basket. Not a word to us at all. I said! "Oh look, Hun, I've been looking for a good spicy vodka, I bet this is good" nothing. I still walked around for another 5-10 min and completely ignored. I don't know if they assumed we wouldn't buy anything because we were young, if they didn't want to help us because we spoke some Spanish in the store... Whatever it was, they convinced me to never go back. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I did give them 1 star because they had a very organized store with very nice displays. read more

100% disappointment. We were so excited to get to our favorite store in Sedona to gather some of the wonderful products Vom Fass offers. We were shocked to see it was no more. As the four of us stepped inside, we realized they had the same products. However the friendly, welcoming and fun atmosphere is gone. Two of the three staff members made the experience rather uncomfortable. Rude and borderline pushy. Management may want to also discuss a better approach to explaining the transition to the new owners to customers. We were all offended by the young man's explanation that "we-the customers" did not like the fact that vom fass was a foriegn company and WWII is what happened to Vom Fass. Any assumption of the business being more successful under a new American name is absolutely WRONG! They lost business from our entire family!!! Michael, the manager, took the time to show my family around and even gave us a bunch of cool information about all the different scotchs that they carried.
