Was looking for a new barber around my neighborhood and found this place on Yelp. It's cash only and $25 for a male haircut. This barber has been here for so long. I think he's been in this location for 30+ years. I walked in on a Thursday afternoon and the place was pretty empty and open, which was really nice! Nick was great. He's originally from Greece. He cut my hair meticulously and carefully. He gave me some good tips on how to style my straight hair. The barbershop itself was clean, no-frills, and easy. This is one of the old school barber shops where the man is a master with scissors and clippers and has been doing haircuts longer than most barbers who werent even born yet. Nick is very friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. His shop is very comfortable and has magazines and newspapers to read while you wait, or chat it up with the other customers. Feel safe men and women who enter this holy site that's been here for years. This gentleman and helpers are all Barbers who have the special license to use a straight blade. So, men, go in and treat yourself to a hot towel and Barber style treatment! Women they do it all for as well. Treat yourself to some good conversation and good people while taking care of yourself. You almost go back in time here. I guess this is what I like and is subjective but, I tell you. If you want the old Barber style treatment, then this is the only other spot I'll let cut my hair. Quick & Dirty: If there were ever a business in Long Beach that I would be more than happy to give a 5 Star Yelp to this would be the place. Great haircut and fantastic service. Nick is a very cool guy! Long & Cut: I typically go to the Syndicate but being fed up with the wait time especially on the weekends I thought I would try someplace new, so I went to Spiro's Barber Shop after reading it's ONE and only yelp since '06! First off a big thanks to Eric H. who reviewed this place way back. His review was on par and was the review I read which led me here. I walked in and was the only person there. An older guy came out of the back and pleasantly greeted me with a nice big smile and told me to take the chair. He asked me what I wanted and I told him just a clean up and from that point we BS'd for the next 15 minutes. We talked about Long Beach and he told me how he's owned this shop for years, lived in London, and now lives in Cerritos. I couldn't have enjoyed his company more. Sure Spiro's is nothing like the Syndicate and that's okay! It was nice to get a break from the attitude and crazy artwork and the lines and the feeling of I'm not cool enough to get my haircut there. Nick at Spiro's actually talked to ME unlike at The Syndicate where they only talk to each other. Nick did too have art on the walls but it's a little more greek influenced, and you can buy it too! Overall, I am VERY glad I went here and I would ABSOLUTELY go here again. My haircut is clean and neat and he didn't take nearly as long as the Syndicate either. Nick is a fabulous barber, I used to come here for years when I lived in Long Beach, and even continued to come after I moved to Vegas, he has even cut all 3 of my boys and always does a fantastic job, they just don't make barbers like Nick anymore and he is truly a Long Beach gem. read more

I didn't think it was possible to mess up too much with clippers, but the sides of my head look chewed on by a dog! Nick asked me if the last person to cut my hair was a woman. He could see what was wrong with the shape, the length- wrong style for my head. He should know, he's been cutting hair for over 40 years. Wow, if it wasn't for Yelp, I would've never known about this place. I live just a couple blocks away from Spiros for the last 5 years! I wish I would've known it then. Nick the owner, also the main barber is VERY VERY friendly. I definitely felt very comfortable right when I walked in. Mind you, I'm used to going to Floyd's (a franchise barbershop) where everything is loud, trendy, and hip. This place was a bit different. It felt more homely and cozy. I have a hard time trusting barbers and their knowledge of giving an Asian guy a fade (our course hair and our head shape makes it difficult for most barbers! Lol) Most just don't do it right. Well, Nick had the Mida's touch and hooked me up with one of the best fades ever! Not only he set me up with a clean zero fade, he also did it in less than 20 minutes WHILE having a full-on conversation with me. Needing a break from the long lines at Syndicate, i rolled through here on a lazy weekday looking to get clean for the miss. No line, no wait, just me, Nick and some paintings for sale on the wall. Aside from a good cut, Nick's likes to chop it up and always has something interesting to say. He even remembered me from my last haircut, over 6 months ago. My hair got butchered at another barbershop a few days prior to my last visit - i thought i could get a good cut for $7, but...nope, it doesn't exist. Anyways, Nick noticed how bad it was and fixed things up proper, lined me up and sent me on my way. I gotta say, this my go-to guy now for a great cut in LB. I have been going to Nick for about three years now. And I must say he can give a mean haircut. He needs little direction, with all his experience. Recently, he has gotten pricey. At first it was $12, then $15. When I went to Nick a few weeks ago it was $17! I would avoid the other trendy barbers down 4th street because of the pricing. But for a few bucks more I will give them a try. I first went to Nicks for a good haircut at a great price from a great guy. Nick Nicola is the owner of Spiro's Barber Shop and he has been my barber since I moved to Long Beach in 1990. When I moved to Seattle in 1997, Nick is one of the people that I missed the most. After Nick cut my hair for the first time, all I ever had to do on subsequent visits was sit in the chair and relax -- he knew exactly what to do. And the same was true when I FINALLY changed my hairstyle a couple of years ago! Nick massages my scalp with a special (Greek?) potion, washes my hair and even trims around the edges with a straight razor. Getting my haircut is one of my favorite things in life...and getting my haircut by Nick is one of my favorite things about Long Beach. Should be no stars at all. Older guy from London cut my hair or more butchered it over. He didn't even listen to what I asked for which isn't a difficult cut anyway. Then at the end I pointed out the crappy fade and lack of fade on one side of my head he acts like there nothing wrong with it. While cruising around Yelp I discovered Spiros, and after reading all of the extremely positive reviews I decided to give it a shot. Rarely is Yelp wrong, right? Right! What a positive experience. I walked in, sat down, and was greeted by Nick. All I need to say is that he's a genuinely nice and easy going person, he knows what he's doing, and if you need your haricut, you should see him ASAP. This is my first (and likely last) Yelp review, but I can't say enough thing about Spiro's and Nick in general. I spent a solid two years trying to achieve a certain look at various barbershops around Long Beach, and was really beginning to think it was just impossible. After getting my dome destroyed for what seems like the tenth time at Syndicate, I took the advice of a friend and let Nick take a turn at my head. Figuring I just wasn't speaking the proper barber language, I tried awkwardly to explain to Nick what I wanted, and he responded, "Sure, Sure, I'll take care of you." I received quite simply the best haircut I've ever had, and continue to receive them every few weeks for the last year and a half. I've sent several friends to see him and they are permanent converts. Spiro's doesn't have all the "pizzaz" of the more punk establishments in town, but you will also never walk out with a crappy haircut from a guy too hungover to care. Nick is the best Barber around, and if you ask he'll tell you great stories about how the Beatles put him out of business when he was cutting hair in London in the early 60's read more

I admit I was a little nervous when I first decided to give this place a try. I'm moving to a different area in LB, and this place is within walking distance, and I have had a few misses with my usual shop. I didn't get a cut from the owner Nick, but from his assistant, though I didn't catch her name. Plenty of seating while you wait, lots of magazines. Nice cozy feel. My boyfriend goes here for every haircut and as his girlfriend, I love his cuts. The price is very good for the amount of time the barber puts into cutting. The barber is a perfectionist and my boyfriend has never been disappointed. I walked in about a year ago and met Amin who knew how to fix a bad former haircut and shape it into something perfect, age appropriate and effortless to fix! He's a great conversationalist and the shop has a great vibe. No pretense just quality cuts. I returned recently and thankfully Amin was still there.
