My journey with this barbershop started when I moved from SF back to LB around early 2023. Walked in on a busy Wednesday morning and asked for any availability for a standard haircut walk-in appointment with any barber. First off, everyone greeted me as I walked through the door, every station was clean, vibes were right, and music was great. Moments later, Manny introduced himself, got me setup in his chair, asked what I wanted, and got to work. The professionalism, cancer, and warm demeanor of not only Manny, but everyone in that shop, is part of the reason I keep coming back after a little over 3 years of fierce loyalty. Other reason I keep regularly scheduling cuts with Manny is because he's the genuine article and a savant with clippers. Plus, the guy is easy to talk to. The online listing states hours from 9 AM to 5 PM. I arrived for a walk-in at 3:23 PM. Upon entering, the first barber did not acknowledge my greeting; only someone in the back welcomed me. When I asked if walk-ins were accepted, I was told if I could return the following day and was simply turned away with a "sorry." I needed the service that day otherwise, I would have waited and gone to my regular barbershop. I chose this place based on proximity and Yelp ratings, but there was no real flexibility when it came to walk-ins. As a local resident, I decided to try a new shop closer to home. By 3 PM, all three barbers were already booked. While it's great for the business to be fully scheduled suggesting they must provide excellent cuts it was disappointing to be turned away at the time I arrived. Danny burned my neck with the clippers and gave me a horrible haircut I'm not sure about the other guys there, but I had a bad experience with Danny today. He completely messed up my hair and I would NOT ever recommend him. He was not able to complete the haircut and I had to go to another barber. I came in today with relatively longer hair and asked to have it cleaned up a little. I tried to explain how I was really enjoying the fact that I had longer hair. The lady cut almost all my hair off. Complete opposite of what I asked for, but I'm not a prick and I didn't complain to her. From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was welcoming and the staff had a lively, friendly energy. Had a appointment with Igor at 4/13/24 He is a very nice guy, and talented I saw videos of the styles he does, if I was a man I'd definitely get his original style Tho I'm not so I had a pretty unique request Before scheduling I had reached out to him Amazingly he replied, I asked him if it was okay I was a female with long hair he said it's fine I also showed him reference to what I wanted just so he could confirm it was possible of him to do he said yes On my arrival he finally got to see what he has to work with. Told me it out of his ordinary. I knew it was from all the videos Iv seen, tho I chose him because of that. He is very excellent at those styles he professions in. Which is why I had confidence, he could do my hair. I also knew I'd be of a challenge to any salon or barber I went to. Many salons Iv gone to, have never pulled of a style that Iv wanted. Alas, my long-time barber Constancio has left and started his own shop in Santa Ana. Fortunately, I already knew all the guys at the Lodge, after coming here for nearly a decade. Sergio stepped in for my cut. He even tried to contact Connie for advice. Sergio consulted with me, even reviewing the photos on my phone of my past cuts with Constancio. He also listened carefully to my preferences, and I had a great cut. I could tell that he was meticulous in his craft, and he's an easy conversationalist too. The service requested by me to the barber igor was an updated ivy league cut. I wanted it sharp and clean and combed to the side with a slick look, the sides were to be faded at an angle. I showed samples of what I wanted in several photographs of MYSELF (not models or actors or random screenshots). There was to be a clean razor bald fade on the sides while maintaining the volume on top and back of the hair. I don't know what type of cut the barber was trying to do because it looks Horrible. The overall vibe was pretty cool until he started talking about anti Russian government and anti Putin propaganda. Unfortunately, emails to company did not lead to immediate resolution. Finding a barbershop can be an incredible personal journey. After all, most people end up getting their hair cut by the same person for years, maybe even decades. My barber recently moved away to another state, which led me to the great search for the next place to get my cut, and I can say with confidence that The Lodge has single-handedly won me over. First, I'll say that my background with barbershops is really low-tech. My former barber only accepted cash, with no reservations, with no music playing, etc. To me, The Lodge is modernizing my entire barbershop experience. There's a reservation system on their site, where you can book time with any of the barbers weeks in advance, and you can even pay ahead of time. I now book my cuts at 8 a.m. to make better use of my day, and it feels a bit more "private" because there's usually only one other customer in the store. You can really get a convo going with everyone and it just feels like a friendly, chill environment. I had my cut with Evan, and I will continue booking with him. He's the plug for Brosh hair products, which is a cool Japanese brand I'm surprised I'd never heard of. Definitely will be my go-to spray from here on out. They're located right next to Wood Coffee so it's easy to grab a drink if you're waiting. But you won't really wait if you've got a reservation, anyways. Got a haircut from Igor. Haircut- 4/5: I asked for a one inch trim. The haircut I received was good, but wasn't exactly what I asked for. He cut off more than an inch. Service- 1/5: The shop itself is quite nice, great interior. The other barbers in the shop were engaged in consistent conversation, which created a good atmosphere. My barber, Igor, who is labeled as a Senior Specialist on the website, meaning he has over 10 years over experience, was passive aggressive from the moment I sat down. I first gave him a rundown of how I wanted my hair. He was quite responsive and interrupted me while I was speaking says, "If you want an inch off give if an inch off", in an aggressive tone. During the haircut he asked me 2 basic questions, which I answered, and to which he was unreceptive. I also asked him a few cordial questions and he ignored them. At the end of the haircut, I gave him a 25% tip. He took the tip and in said thanks in an unappreciative manner. I got the feeling from the beginning that he just wanted me to leave. Does this location higher bipolar barbers? Ive been to many barber shops with a wide variety of prices and barbers but this specific location is just terrible. First, if I'm going to pay 50 bucks for a hair cut at least meet 90 percent of that my haircut standard. I basically got into a argument because of my back fade which they didn't not fix. Mind you I am in the military so I'm used to getting messed up cuts but for about 10 bucks.
