Since moving back to California, I have been on the search for my go-to place for haircuts. As my hair was getting pretty long again, I did a quick Yelp search and decided to check out Timothy Trimothy (the name stood out to me). Making the appointment online (linked both via Yelp app or his website) was super easy, and I got several text reminders leading up to the visit. I parked at a metered spot on the street, but as some other reviews have pointed out, the parking structure nearby seems to offer two hours free parking. If you happen to go on Fridays between 10AM-2PM, there is also a farmers market in this area. Timothy's studio is suite #21 in Salon Row. It was a small but well kept space with fun stickers on the wall. Timothy was a fantastic barber, very patient and worked with me to figure out what to do with my hair. I always appreciate a straight razor finish and the warm towel is truly a nice touch at the end as well. Timothy is careful, precise, and detail oriented. We also had an interesting conversation, bonding over our shared Taiwanese heritage, plus I enjoyed hearing his unique backstory. $40 for standard haircut, and he accepts cash, card, Venmo, and perhaps a few other payment methods I forget. His personal studio tucked in downtown Long beach provides a clean and comfortable feel while bringing a touch of the DMV to LBC. Its really cool to see his wall decor! Being that he is in downtown it was no trouble to find parking either, parking garage B next door is free for the first 2 hours! Tim has given me great advice on blow drying technique on how to handle my hair and what type of products would work best for what i was looking for! I had written, beforehand, to Tim about the experiences I did and didn't enjoy about my previous barbers, and that was first thing we went over when he sat me down. Tim is extremely professional as he waited at the front to come get me, and when it came to the haircut, he tried to fully understand what I was looking for before he went on. I was very pleased with that. There were some things I wasn't very certain on with my hair and he made fantastic suggestions that made the experience seamless without me having to explain too much or know enough technical terms (which by the way I'm still learning the lingo). He took his time and made no shortcuts, since I can tell by his attention to details especially when doing my side tapers. I've been to barbers all over (LA, OC, DC, Baltimore, Brooklyn, Boston, Vermont, Durham) and Tim stands out as the best, hands down. Friendly and respectful, Tim really listens to what I want and touches base throughout the appointment to make sure I like how the cut is going. The shop is in a great location, and you can get free parking in a parking garage nearby. Tim's space is cool, clean, and comfortable, and the appointment never feels rushed. Always great conversations too. Also: I'm a queer Asian woman, so barbers don't always follow through on my style, whether they're not as skilled with Asian hair or queer femme cuts. Tim is just different. I always walk away from the haircut feeling good, so much so that I time my trips back to Cali so that I can get a fresh cut from him.
