The food is good. The service Is rancid. We arrived and were seated quickly, but they moved the umbrellas awkwardly so we didn't have good shade for more than 30 minutes. We ordered our food, and it arrived staggered. The food was good I had the aguachile, it is spicy but I like it. The guacamole was bland no flavor but we put lime and salt so it was ok. When It was time to ask for our check there is NOBODY! We had to ask 2 people. Our main guy was almost put out to give us the check. He was busy with a new table that ordered lobster. My friend had already walked up to the car with her dogs because it was too hot at our table. I was standing there for nearly 30 minutes waiting to get my check and pay the check. Our waiter was too busy to even face me and hand me the check. So I just have him my card. Then waited another 10+ minutes waiting to get it back, he never asked how much tip to add, and there was no place to add a tip so I didn't leave him a tip because I only had large bills and wasn't leaving a 50% tip. The experience was lack luster and despite the food being good...I wouldn't return nor recommend anyone going there for the PISS POOR SERVICE! read more

The view here is among the most beautiful I've ever seen. It feels like being on top of a castle on the ocean. There is even a deck for people to enjoy the view and take pictures. In a group of 20 or so, everyone chose from a small curated menu. The portions were big and satisfying. Service was quick and friendly. After the view, the next best thing about this place is the live music and dance floor. The band started off with 80s hits and then switched to Spanish hits when the restaurant got livelier. Some songs sounded like the actual artists they were covering. I could only hope they frequently play at Splash. I hope to come again one day. My advice is to get the Splash Margarita. If you're looking to eat some really great food Splash has the best tasting food. I've been to Encanto and Los portales de Garcia that are right next to Splash and although the food is good it doesn't compare to Splash. Not only is the food good but the service is amazing everyone one there is so friendly and welcoming they have great customer service. If you're around I definitely recommend this place they have good food, good service, good drinks, good vibes and, great prices. read more

I came here with my mother and my lovely girlfriends for breakfast, but leaving right at lunch time around noon I bestowed upon a server bringing out their lobster and shrimps to a table and I've never wanted to come back so soon to eat at the same restaurant. That lobster looked so good! The nice server even stopped to let me gaze at the food for a couple seconds as if he was even going to let me take a picture, but I refrained from doing so since the food wasn't mine and was headed to its table already. The ambiance and the food was great especially for the prices. Drinks were also good, the strawberry margarita, the Michi and the piña colada! Are all fire! Seems like they got rid of the Tacos al gobernador(my favorite from here) I don't have a reason to come by no more and my dish of the Chile relleno felt to thick to cut even with a knife. The service standard has declined tremendously since our favorite server quit. When my wife ordered the beverages for our children the server must of heard something different, and brought back what she assumed she asked for. Then, the audacity to say this is what you asked for In Response. I don't know if Baja in general doesn't care for the service one expects back home but standards should be elevated another notch. This is not the only place it's happened. Remember you are in another country and some establishments will have that service etiquette and some won't. a few friends have told me about Splash...my impression before coming here is that it is a more upscale spot in Baja... we come down and explore at least once a month...so we are somewhat experienced with baja road trips... i'm down for a hold in the wall...but my curiosity was peaked. So we stopped for lunch on our way to Ensenada... this spot is about halfway between Rosarito and Ensenada... they have the choice of valet or self park...we opted to self park you enter through a sliding glass door onto the ground level, which is indoors with a dining room and large windows with views of the ocean. we opted for upstairs/outdoor patio...it is partially covered. it was a warm day so we sat under the patio covering rather than against the rail (which had a better view but no shade) adults had a house margarita each..perfectly delish kids had a pina colada sin alcohol (virgin)...yum!!! chips were yummy...salsa was just ok... i had a couple of different tostada's..1 fish ceviche and 1 shrimp yum!!! the kids both had a shrimp burrito...it was served open so they could wrap it himself..he loved it he had 2 traditional fried fish tacos...they were really good! yup...it was a very nice meal with a fabulous view! definitely will return ... good for baja newbie's too...(i.e. those who may be "afraid" to eat at most places down here). read more

Splash is a Mexican American restaurant located one hour south of San Diego in Rosarito. They offer a nice selection of seafood, steaks, Mexican dishes, and American favorites such as hamburgers, fries, and grill cheese. The service was very good when we arrived. Most customers choose to dine upstairs on the patio which offers a great view of the coastline. The prices are reasonable and the menus are in English and priced in dollars for the non Spanish speaking customers. The dishes we ordered were very good and I wouldn't mind going here again. I had the Costa Azul Shrimp which were excellent. Next time I want to try the fried oysters. read more

If you are cruising through Baja California and want a meal that is unforgettable, go to Splash. It's a bit hard to find, but well worth the hunt. Once you've passed Rosarito, take the exit with no name just before the Half Way House. I know, not very clear instructions, but if you see the Half Way House on the Free Road, turn around and go back. That's the only way to tell you where the exit is. Next, you'll go straight across the Free Road and down what appears to be a driveway, but it is actually a small dirt road that leads directly to a little slice of heaven - Splash. They have a parking guard there who will dutifully watch your vehicle while you eat - make sure to give him a little something for his efforts. The restaurant is called Splash because it's situated on the edge of the ocean where the water crests onto the rocks and splashes up through a blowhole. It is a beautiful place to watch the ocean at its best and for an amazing Happy Hour sunset. There's an outdoor patio with lots of tables or inside tables and a bar where a wall of windows also offers you a terrific view. The drinks are reasonable and the wine list is outstanding, but the specialty of the house is the seafood. They have all kinds of local fresh seafood and Mexican dishes. We ordered the Puerto Nuevo style lobster which came perfectly prepared. It was accompanied by beans and rice, fresh tortillas and salsa, and some of the most delicious wine I tasted on the trip. There was live music and people dancing. Street vendors came through hocking there wares, and locals laughed and ate all night long. It was spectacular! Our evening at Splash was the highlight of our trip. I highly recommend it to anyone passing through Baja Norte! Stop at Splash!! read more

Our first time at Splash was amazing! A group of 5 of us traveled down from San Diego. We stopped at splash around brunch time for a bite to eat before hitting the wineries in Valle, and what a great stop it was! The service was amazing! And the best part was the lobster! All 5 of us ordered a plate, it came with fresh tortillas, rice and beans and plenty of butter for dipping. Huge portions and really good. This is one of those spots I know I can go to have a good meal and a great time, EVERY time! I love sitting up in the bar area because they usually have live performers and the bartenders up there are SO much fun! We have such a good time every time we stop by. The food here is really good as well. I've had the chicken cordon blue and the cheeseburger - both amazing! My husband usually gets one of the combos and adds a lobster. Hey, why not?! The key is, it's consistent and it comes out fast. I love that. If you can, try and get there for sunset. It's an absolutely amazing view and the building is positioned as such that you feel like you're literally floating above the water. It's breathtaking. I do not know how to describe the beauty of the ocean. I saw a lot of dolphins swimming. This is better than George's in La Jolla. I ordered lobsters. There are two lobsters with rice and beans, and. either salad or soup. All of these for less than $40. They have a lot of cocktails as well. Apparently, they have live music at night. Great find recommended to us by an expat who lives nearby. We had another couple with us and started with fried oysters and margaritas. Pretty tasty! Three of us had the black sea bass and the third had salmon. All of us enjoyed our meals. Each meal included a salad, potatoes, and veggies. The fish was cooked perfectly! I had a couple glasses of Chardonnay which complimented the fish well. We shared the cheesecake and strawberry ice cream for dessert. They were both excellent! One of my favorite Baja restaurants. I liked it even better in its old location, right on the cliffs, where you could literally be splashed by the crashing waves. But, the new location is gray, too. Still stunning ocean views, great food, and live music and dancing on the weekends. Came here last night w/ group of about 15 of us, had some really good seafood, ribeye, fish tacos, and Valle de Guadalupe wine - the Don Luis Terra blend - really nice.
