The facility is well-maintained and clean. The pool itself is spotless, the lockers were recently upgraded, and the shower area is always kept in great condition. It's clear that they prioritize upkeep, which I really appreciate. The staff here are always friendly and helpful, creating a welcoming atmosphere. That said, this is very much a swimmer's pool--designed for lap swimming and training rather than recreational use or family playtime. While they do have some equipment available for use, most swimmers bring their own gear. One of my favorite aspects is how uncrowded it is when I go early in the morning. I usually get a lane to myself, which is such a luxury compared to other pools. The membership fees are very reasonable for what you get--especially considering the quality of the facilities and the experience. If you're looking for a pool geared toward training or serious lap swimming, I highly recommend The Swimstitute. I had a not-so-great experience and decided to take my business to the Swimstitute instead. I started out with buy a block of swim passes, just to make sure I liked it. Due to my work schedule at the time, I'd end up going in the afternoons when all the kids had their swim classes. That wasn't ideal for me so when it came time to take the step to a monthly pass, I opted not to. The value just wasn't there and I felt like the pool wasn't maintained as well as 24 hour fitness'.

They have plenty of spaces for you to settle with plenty of lawn chairs to take. The only downside is you have to get one from a pile and drag it to your spot yourself. There are nice shady areas on the grass or even the shady area by the concrete. There are a few tables with umbrellas by the kitty pool which have a few structures that squirt out water making it a fun experience for toddlers. The lifeguards are teens who I will admit are socially awkward. I mentioned "lifeguarding here was my first job, it's nice to come back and enjoy the pool" to which she awkward replied "ok..." I never spoke to another lifeguard after that. I'd also suggest they learn basic social cues. I get when you tell "no running" to kids for safety reasons but if it's a toddler who doesn't understand and the parent is chasing them to prevent them from jumping in... don't proceed to say "WALK SWEETIE! WALK! NO RUNNING!" to the toddler because they obviously don't understand. Also the parent doesn't care what you say, they will run to safe their child from drowning. Overall enjoyable, just minus one star because of the awkward lifeguards.

The facility is nice--a big pool, ample chair & bench seating for observing, 2 restrooms, spacious changing rooms, a play area with some simple items, vending machine, & a hair dryer for use. Music plays in the background. Communication was facilitated through email, phone, text, & in-person availability. We always found staff helpful. They also had a box for comments & praise for staff. Our kiddo did 2 sessions with 2 designated instructors. However, she ended up working with 3 other substitutes several times as well. You are given advance notice, & luckily our kiddo would go with the flow, but some kids might have a harder time if they need more trust & consistency. We generally found the instructors to be encouraging & positive. There's a fine line between pushing too hard or not enough, & they seemed to try to find that sweet spot. Little one would get pep talks when needed. She enjoyed the bit of free play at the end of the session as a reward for her efforts. We appreciated the post-class progress checks from the instructors. A ribbon system created positive incentive & moments of pride when earned. It's notable that other dynamics will impact your experience. It was really nice when we had a time that wasn't too busy compared to another time that was quite crowded. Though signs are in the play area regarding supervision & playing nicely with items, I still observed poor behavior & lack of supervision. Also, waiting for the dressing rooms was disorganized. Though a pseudo-line would form, some people opportunistically jumped in ahead. In hindsight, it would be helpful for staff to remind & emphasize some parent behavior expectations & create a system for lining up for the dressing rooms.

We had two lessons a week for 12 lessons and my son would count the days until he could be back in the water again with Dolores. She was so patient with my son who is on the spectrum and this was a huge concern of mine. Dolores was very kind and encouraging and never made my son feel defeated. Especially Friday-Sunday. You would think all the locations would have the same business hours of operation, but the 7941 Fair Oaks Blvd location closes an hour earlier and opens an hour later Monday-Thursday and Friday-Sunday they close two hours earlier. Seems like longer hours on the weekends would be more logical because most people are not working. Another issue is that the pool or jacuzzi seems to be closed due to whatever reasons quite often. Sometimes they are closed for 5 to 10 days or longer. This is an ongoing issue at both Carmicheal locations. These issues are inconvenient and make my recovery process slow or come to a halt at times. Other than that the facilities are adequate. I do recommend In-Shape. The staff is very professional and personable and the majority of the members are down to earth and good people. I've met quite a few members that I really like and respect. I would give 5 stars if it weren't for the issues stated above.
