    Milestone Ribbons
    Lynnea F.

Our daughter has been doing semi private lessons for over 6 months. We have been very happy with the school and her teachers. She has made significant progress at Steve Wallen as compared to other places she took lessons and we feel much more comfortable with her around the pool. She loves the milestone ribbons. A few friends highly recommended the school and we would agree!

    Awards to keep students motivated.

We are incredibly happy with Steve Wallen swim school! Our child was in a much larger group class previously at another school and while it helped them get comfortable with being in the water they plateaued and weren't making meaningful progress after a while. Our friends all recommended Steve Wallen and we can see why. We signed up for semi-private lessons (2 students per instructor) and our child began making rapid progress and is now able to swim on their own confidently and proficiently. Highly recommend Steve Wallen!

Great staff! Clear student expectations! Excellent communication to parents! We just finished our first series of lessons with Steve Wallen Swim School and had a phenomenal experience. Mr. Jack was great with my two young boys both at different ability levels. He was patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. The staff here works like a very cohesive team. We had substitute teachers Mr. London and Miss Ellie who were both equally wonderful. Jaden is great with the parents and in our first lesson, he came by to help me feel at ease. The boys received ribbons after the lessons when they reached swimming milestones. The swimming goals are posted on the wall as well. This made it clear what skills they were working on and how to improve. By the end of our five-week session, my older son built confidence to swim from one side of the pool to the other independently using side breath and streamline skills. At the end of each lesson, the teacher gave me a brief summary of how my children were doing and this helped me know what skills to build on. I appreciated the concise and immediate feedback every week. There is a convenient seating area for parents to watch lessons. Changing rooms and bathrooms were clean and welcoming. There is a little kids' play area for the babies and toddlers and a cool photo booth type feature in the waiting area. It is a wonderful, clean environment. The vending machine took my money once without dropping the Cheetos we paid for, but the woman at the front desk was more than happy to fix that problem. No issue. I love to see the diversity of the staff which makes the environment feel more welcoming. I also very much appreciated seeing a student with special needs receiving caring and effective instruction as well. For all the reasons above, we will absolutely be back for more lessons. Additionally, the co-owner Kaleb Wallen was super kind and welcoming, attentive to students and parents. Thank you for an excellent experience, Wallen School! This school is a gem in our Roseville Community!

Even though the party time window is a bit short, I do appreciate that they have the option to shut the place down for private events. They also provide a private party room for your group to use, which is really convenient. The indoor pool is actually warm (which I truly appreciate, because I've been to plenty of places that claim their pools are "warm" when they definitely are not). There's also a section where kids have to pass a swim test to receive a bracelet, which allows them access to the deeper area and the inflatable play zone. There are plenty of lifeguards on duty, so it always feels safe, and they provide life jackets as well. All kids are required to wear approved life vests while in the water. I also like that there are showers right by the pool, along with doors that lead directly into the men's and women's locker rooms and bathrooms. It makes it easy to enter and exit from both the indoor and outdoor areas, although parents should definitely keep an eye on their kids since there are multiple exit points. One thing to note is that they're pretty strict about party timing. If you go over your allotted time, they may not always remind you, but they will charge you afterward. I really wish they had separate designated party time and swim time, because it can feel rushed trying to fit everything in at once. Overall, it's a nice place to take the kids. They also offer swim lessons and other programs, which is a plus. The only downside is that some of the front desk staff seem young and occasionally don't have clear answers to specific questions. This wasn't our first visit and definitely won't be our last.

I feel like I'm swimming in a greenhouse when the roof is closed. I love not having to wear sunscreen, a hat, or sunglasses, but some people still might. So many water fitness classes offered here! There are multiple classes Monday to Friday. Only 1 class on Saturday and Sunday, but that's still pretty good. You need to get a wristband for each water fitness class. The most popular and biggest class is the Hydro Fusion class held MWF 10:30 am and TR 9:05 am. You can start getting a wristband for this class 1 hour ahead of time. I've also enjoyed the Shallow H20 Fit classes and the Monday night Aqua Yoga class. I don't think you can reserve a swim lane. You just hope for an empty lane, stay in your half lane if you have to share with 1 other swimmer, or circle swim if there are 3+ swimmers in a lane. If you need to move between lanes, staff wants you to swim under the lane dividers. They are afraid the lane dividers can't hold the weight of a person. There are so many lifeguards! Sometimes during class or if you're in the middle pool lanes, it feels awkward seeing them loom over you. They're ready to rescue you! There are swim programs for kids. For Easter, there is a floating egg hunt! For Halloween, there is a floating pumpkin patch. https://www.roseville.ca.us/government/departments/parks/programs_classes/fitness/ Look under Mike Shellito Indoor Pool, Fitness Schedules, and Memberships for details. Very affordable, especially if you are a resident of Roseville. You can pay for a monthly membership, buy a 10 or 20 visit punch card, or just drop in. Every January, there is a punch card promo to get you exercising: Buy 10, Get 5 free visits. The cool thing about the punch card or daily drop-in is that you can attend as many classes at any of the 3 Roseville exercise facilities (Mike Shellito, Mahany Fitness Center, Maids Community Center) that day! This is the daily class schedule: https://groupexpro.com/schedule/788/?view=new I had some bad luck when I initially tried out evening classes with last-minute cancelations or no shows. I waited over a year to try my first evening class. Bring your own towel and lock for the locker room. Only 4 shower stalls inside the locker room. Many people just rinse off and head home in their swim parkas. I also bring my own bag for the wet clothing and swimsuit. There's only 1 type of shampoo/body wash foam, so you might want to bring conditioner. No paper towels in the restrooms, just hand dryers. Leave time to park, check in, use locker room, and grab your weights and noodle before class. Pool closes between 1:15 pm and 3:45 pm Mon to Thu. On Fri, it's closed between 1:15 pm and 6:35 pm. Sat and Sun stays open until 4 pm with no midday closure. If you enjoy swimming or aqua fit classes or water therapy, I highly recommend Mike Shellito.

There are always plenty of staff in the childcare for both big kids and babies. I immediately took advantage of the free personal training session on my first visit. I worked with Liz. I clicked with her right away because she specifically cared about MY goals for my fitness. I wanted to turn my health around so that I could increase my healthy lifespan with my two kids. I just had a baby at 40 and was very overweight and incapable of many physical functions that I consider important. In my first month working out with Liz, I gained 6 pounds of muscle and lost 8 pounds of fat. I felt physically strong and capable, but also mentally strong because I was confronting something embarrassing for myself but pushing through. After some months I switched to other trainers because Liz is actually the training boss lol. I had been spoiled... but I was very happy with Eric and Alex who taught me new exercises and were just as knowledgeable and caring as Liz. I stuck with Alex for the rest of my time at In-Shape Roseville. He always estimated my ability just right. He would never give me more than I could do, but also not less. I pushed it every single session and got stronger and stronger. Every session was packed with activity and I felt like my time (and money) was being fully valued. From the moment I would walk into the gym until I left, I was making a huge impact on my health and future. Over six or seven months, I spent between two and six hours at the gym every week. I know for certain that putting in that time gained me years with my kids down the road. Unfortunately I moved out of county and have switched to a new local gym, but I now have a knowledge and skill set to continue on my own. It's no overstatement to say In Shape Roseville changed or even saved my life. Every staff member helped me. Also, every member is nice. There's no awkwardness or feeling fat there. Everyone is super nice and down to earth, all ages and all body types. Special thanks to Carmen, James, Nayel, Eric, the beautiful lady trainer that moved to Nevada and Raymund. Especially for Liz and Alex, I know that I will achieve my fitness goals and live a long healthy life with my family from what you taught me and what you enabled me to prove to myself.

That is what she said her name was, she did not have a name tag on. She informed me she was the General Manager quite haughtily. I have never seen her there before, while I have interacted with others at the gym and bought training sessions with two Training Instructors, who were very nice. Gabby spoke rudely and in an aggressive manner in responding to my requests/inquiries and when I told her so, she was even more rude and aggressive. She has no Customer Service skills whatsoever. I did not raise my voice, assault her, or damage any property. She was annoyed with me for pointing out that she was being rude, and threatened to call the police, and gloated that it would be on my record forever if she did so!! What a petty, ultra aggressive, uncouth way for a Service Person to behave. And especially in a community like Roseville. I believe that Inshape Fitness and Gabby need to make an apology to me. @Kerri J, Business Manager Did you check with Gabby if I had given her due cause to call the police? She did say it is company policy to tell me that I can use my phone to do what I was asking her to do. Is it company policy to call the police, because an employee is irritable, without due cause? I didn't even have a handbag and I am a small made woman. Calling the police means, guns, and innocent bystanders being at risk. There are minors who frequent the gym. I had a minor on my membership. Does she enjoy putting a blemish on their record. Are your employees so careless to cause such situations without due cause? This is why I left, without telling her to go ahead and call the police, because I had done nothing wrong for a police charge. Your General Manager showed lack of reasoning and absurdity. I don't wish to get drawn into more of the same. So if you and Gabby wish to apologize for such a brazenly absurd threat without due cause, you can do so here.
