First of all, I appreciate how the staff encourage children and help bring out their potential. Payton is one of my child's favorite instructors, and she understands my child's abilities and teaches accordingly, which has made a positive difference. I am giving 4 stars because some trainers seem to handle children a bit roughly, particularly when encouraging them to put their heads underwater. There should be greater consideration for younger children, especially given differences in age, comfort level, and physical build. My child felt very uncomfortable with one of the coaches and said he did not want to have future lessons with him. Additionally, the number of showers is limited. However, the changing rooms are spacious, and there is a large play area that helps keep infants and young children engaged. I would definitely recommend despite a few coaches. This is one of the better swim schools in Roseville. read more

This business is located in the Roseville Commerce Center. We took our little one here for private lessons for 4 months. The facility is nice--a big pool, ample chair & bench seating for observing, 2 restrooms, spacious changing rooms, a play area with some simple items, vending machine, & a hair dryer for use. Music plays in the background. Communication was facilitated through email, phone, text, & in-person availability. We always found staff helpful. They also had a box for comments & praise for staff. Our kiddo did 2 sessions with 2 designated instructors. However, she ended up working with 3 other substitutes several times as well. You are given advance notice, & luckily our kiddo would go with the flow, but some kids might have a harder time if they need more trust & consistency. We generally found the instructors to be encouraging & positive. There's a fine line between pushing too hard or not enough, & they seemed to try to find that sweet spot. Little one would get pep talks when needed. She enjoyed the bit of free play at the end of the session as a reward for her efforts. We appreciated the post-class progress checks from the instructors. A ribbon system created positive incentive & moments of pride when earned. It's notable that other dynamics will impact your experience. It was really nice when we had a time that wasn't too busy compared to another time that was quite crowded. Though signs are in the play area regarding supervision & playing nicely with items, I still observed poor behavior & lack of supervision. Also, waiting for the dressing rooms was disorganized. Though a pseudo-line would form, some people opportunistically jumped in ahead. In hindsight, it would be helpful for staff to remind & emphasize some parent behavior expectations & create a system for lining up for the dressing rooms. read more

Our little one has been enrolled since June and we have been loving our experience thus far! Our little has been enrolled in private lessons and they are 30 minutes long. The coaches are patient and great instructors. They are good at explaining and what areas to work on. We've seen so much progress in such little time. Staff is also very organized and helpful. We get reminders weekly and are able to schedule any make up classes without issues. The facilities is clean and there's enough seating to sit and watch her lessons. We are incredibly happy with Steve Wallen swim school! Our child was in a much larger group class previously at another school and while it helped them get comfortable with being in the water they plateaued and weren't making meaningful progress after a while. Our friends all recommended Steve Wallen and we can see why. We signed up for semi-private lessons (2 students per instructor) and our child began making rapid progress and is now able to swim on their own confidently and proficiently. Great staff! Clear student expectations! Excellent communication to parents! We just finished our first series of lessons with Steve Wallen Swim School and had a phenomenal experience. Mr. Jack was great with my two young boys both at different ability levels. He was patient, friendly, and knowledgeable. The staff here works like a very cohesive team. We had substitute teachers Mr. London and Miss Ellie who were both equally wonderful. Jaden is great with the parents and in our first lesson, he came by to help me feel at ease. The boys received ribbons after the lessons when they reached swimming milestones. The swimming goals are posted on the wall as well. This made it clear what skills they were working on and how to improve. By the end of our five-week session, my older son built confidence to swim from one side of the pool to the other independently using side breath and streamline skills. At the end of each lesson, the teacher gave me a brief summary of how my children were doing and this helped me know what skills to build on. I appreciated the concise and immediate feedback every week. There is a convenient seating area for parents to watch lessons. Changing rooms and bathrooms were clean and welcoming. There is a little kids' play area for the babies and toddlers and a cool photo booth type feature in the waiting area. It is a wonderful, clean environment. The vending machine took my money once without dropping the Cheetos we paid for, but the woman at the front desk was more than happy to fix that problem. No issue. I love to see the diversity of the staff which makes the environment feel more welcoming. I also very much appreciated seeing a student with special needs receiving caring and effective instruction as well. For all the reasons above, we will absolutely be back for more lessons. Additionally, the co-owner Kaleb Wallen was super kind and welcoming, attentive to students and parents. Thank you for an excellent experience, Wallen School! My husband and I took our 8 month old son to Steve Wallen for a trial class and I cannot say enough about how much my son LOVED swimming. The school was very welcoming, they gave us a tour of the facility and the instructors were so friendly and informative. The benches for parents and change rooms were very clean and there were clear signs and posters about safety and important information. One aspect we will have to get used to is the strict schedule times but I appreciate their timely practice and desire to give each class their full time in the pool. You guys are very rude and left a completely bad taste in my mouth last year with the rude customer service I received. I still do not want to do any business with you guys, especially after 1. Being signed up for something without my permission And 2. I called back 3 times with no answer. Lol why would I want to have my kids in activities where I can't even get ahold of the place. Both of my kids have come to SW to learn how to swim and all of the instructors have been great! My son's favorite is Ethan but he's hard to get a spot with (popular guy). Ethan was able to get my son to have fun in the pool instead of looking at swim lessons like a chore. He was so patient and cool guy too :) my son has been coming since Feb and has made so much progress! Prior to the lessons my son only felt comfortable getting in the water with a floaty and now he's floating on his back and swimming. Currently we are working on different swim strokes. I had my 6 month old daughter attend the group lessons last year for a couple months or so. While we really enjoyed the lessons and felt that our baby was getting helpful tools and pool exposure, we felt that the water could be a bit cleaner. We haven't had other indoor pool experiences though so maybe that's just how indoor pools are. Wasn't particularly dirty, just not as clean as an outdoor pool. Our child is now 2 years old and I do think she has benefited from an early start on swim lessons. I did oversee some of the other classes being held for older kids and it seemed very engaging.
