I'd give the zero stars if that were an option. I ordered a Craftsman toolset online that specified next day delivery. Three days later I still had not received the order so I called to cancel. If they cannot meet their online order commitments then they should not accept them. BTW, I found a similar set elsewhere for a better price with quick delivery. These guys are living in the past. I will never shop at ACE due to there return policy. I bought a Flexzilla hose 2 weeks ago and it broke, tried to return. I don't keep receipts nor give out my phone number. I have been coming here for years, I live only a few blocks away. Steve the assistant manager is always friendly and helpful. Justin is another story. He rarely comes out of his office, when he does it's to stand at the front door with his coffee cup before leaving. This ACE is the very definition of nepotism ... at its finest. Justin employees his two sons and most recently hired his nephew. Stace (owner) apparently oblivious to this practice OR encourages it. I have to preface this by saying that I don't like to write negative reviews. My history on Yelp should bear this out. OK, self-justification is out of the way, so on to the review. I live less than a mile from the Ace Hardware on Monroe and 10th Ave., and since I own an old house, I have been there dozens of times and spent hundreds of dollars. Today I was purchasing parts to replace a toilet and accidentally bought the wrong connector hose for the water supply. I found this out a couple of hours in, so I grabbed my receipt and the part and went back to the store. The cashier, a disinterested young girl, told me that I couldn't return the part because it had no packaging. I had the part and the receipt, plus one of the employees had seen me in there twice earlier and helped me find the part originally. I get that this is probably a policy for a reason, but I will also say that the only advantage a store like this has over Home Depot is service. For the sake of not allowing me to return a $7.61 part, they have lost my business. I will drive the extra miles to Home Depot from now on. read more

This is one of my favorite stops when I have the need to go to Spokane. Always friendly staff and well stocked shelves. The best thing is that I don't have to buy a package of 50 if all I need is one. They sell the small, hard to find items like drawer parts and tiny screws too. If you live on South Hill and don't feel like driving east the the big box stores in Spokane Valley, this is the place to pick up all your hard wares. They have a great selection for a small store and their monthly specials are great. Why the 3 star rating? The staff. Completely inconsistent. Seems to be split between helpful and knowledgeable to those who are just annoyed you are taking up their time. So it can kinda be a crapshoot...maybe worth asking a different person if you get bad service? I'll keep going there because it's not a dreaded drive to the box stores (why are Home Depot and Lowes nearly across the street from each other?). Wow! I'm so impressed with these guys. My husband came in to get a snow blower and they didn't have it in the box, only the floor model which wouldn't fit in our car. We offered to push it to our home since we live really close and the owner offered to deliver it for us and brought his guys to unloaded since my husband had surgery and couldn't. Ace put some white paint on sale, I purchased some, and when I asked the employee stated " It cannot be tinted". I called the manufacturer, and they said it's very common to tint this paint. They employee straight up lied ! When I returned they specified at that point they won't tint sale paint, said with a very bad attitude. What a worthless store. I am professional Maintenance/Handyman, When I show up at a job site I have to equipped with enough material so I can pass on savings to my Clients without expensive back tracking to get additional parts. I believe I'm supporting the fellow small home town guy but it breaks my heart to declare and forever promise I will never patron this place again. The service when you are purchasing is decent. Staff was younger and lack proper knowledge of 1 1/2" abs and I purchased the wrong size. When I went back to return for an exchange. It appeared to be another game now. The lady clerk gave off the vibe as if I was a shoplifter. ( this is not up for debate. It is my feel from this clerk) She had to page a Manager meanwhile she dismissed me with nothing other then to look away. To make I long story short. After job was over I brought the remaining non used parts back. Before I even made it through the door, I hear "You're Back." This store for years serves pop to minors who throw their trash all over the neghborhood. I complain and Ace says they can't be responsible. How about not serving minors unless accompanied by an adult?How about not letting the kids leave with your trash to be strewn through out the neighborhood? How about patrolling the neighborhood to pick up the trash you cause to be there? To claim you are powerless to impact this problem is being a bad neighbor. Ace is a nuisance in our neighborhood. They don't care how they contribute to unsightly trash. If you don't care about this impact on your neighborhood customers, what else don't you care about? read more

Besides the fact that anything Ace brand is cheap and falls apart quickly, this store's owner really does a poor job hiring and training his workers. They rarely know what you are asking for or where to find it. They need to take a leaf out of the Pullman Ace's book and learn how to really teach their workers.
