I been coming to see the Spoken Funk show for a few years now and it has always been treat! The host Poetri is funny and always has the crowd in the palm of his hands. Definitely a master in his craft. The talent is hand picked and never disappoints. The comedians keep you rolling and the poets get you thinking and wanting to do finger snaps. Lol I absolutely love this show. It's a clean show (no profanity and little to no sexuality) which is great. The atmosphere is mature and crazy fun without all the nonsense. I LOVE Spoken Funk! The Dopest Poets from around the country perform here and the Best Comedians too. I especially like that the Comedy is CLEAN..... meaning its not so vulgar I feel dirty when I leave. The Comedians that perform at Spoken Funk impress me greatly..... Additionally, the DJ is CLASSIC. He spins good music. The host and his wife are welcoming. Most people end up feeling like family. I always have a great time at Spoken Funk. I loved this place. I went two weekends in a row and it was worth it both times! The hosts are awesome, the atmosphere is awesome, and of course the dj was awesome! Spoken Funk is fun! Good Clean comedy and poetry and you never know what will happen. The Ha Ha Café has pretty good food, just know that in addition to the ticket there is a two item minimum that the Ha Ha has instituted to make sure they make their money. so bring extra money to spend! You can bring kids if they are old enough to sit down, I would say 12 and up. Spoken Funk has all kinds of games and spontaneous action that keeps the ball rolling all night, never a dull moment. Very Unorganized. I purchased the V.I.P package which included reserved couch seating. I was moved several times and the placement of the seating did not make any sense. The food was not great at all (even if it was free there could have been more effort put forward) . It was very buffet style expect you only got two items. There wasn't enough room for my friends and I to sit down and eat so we had to stand. We were then told constantly that we couldn't eat anywhere even though there weren't any seats available. The beverages consisted of small cups of Snapple (Like.....really??). I had high hopes for this place based on the past reviews but I was very disappointed. It was my first time going to a poetry lounge and sad to say I will not be back. I dont recommend this place to anyone. read more

I was invited to SPOKEN FUNK. I said YES I will be there but I said to myself what the heck is spoken funk? Well it's in NoHo @the HaHa Cafe and there was a line out the door waiting to get in this cool intimate venue. Form the start of waiting at the door I was already impressed the couple that run the show were front&center welcoming everyone at the door ...once inside the show started with the DJ was one of the best...he does a Michael Jackson imitation that's perfect! The show was a mixture of acts...poets.mixed w/comedy. I was impressed with the "messages" in the acts...clean thought provoking&powerful....and then just plain funny stuff..like a poem about a love affair with Bacon.I was really impressed with the creative talent of each artist.Im telling you that I have found a place to keep going back that is a sure bet of a good time.Well worth my time&money. read more

Best Poetri and Comedy Spot In The Valley! Went to the Spoken Funk Comedy Poetry this past Sunday and I had such a wonderful time. The poets were amazingly talented, witty, and insanely funny. The comedians were absolutely HILARIOUS! It was a perfect way to end the weekend, great for a date, or to enjoy a good laugh with a group of friends, or in my case my friends flaked, so I went by myself and got to sit next to a cute guy who also came by himself . The atmosphere is chill and laid back, the food was reasonably priced I got the Chicken Tenders & Onion Rings which turned out to be pretty good. Drinks are super cheap also. Overall not too late for something to do on a Sunday night especially for those of us who have to work the next day, we were literally walking out the door by 10:15. Will definitely be going to Spoken Funk again! read more

I came here once with my girlfriends. I enjoy listening to poetry and first heard about this place through Da Poetry Lounge. What I like is that it's also a comedy show. Comic come up and perform there acts. You do have to order a drink or food of a certain minimum but overall I had a great time. read more

I've been there 3 times, including participating as a poet and I definitely recommend going. It's a positive environment and has food and prizes. I remember my first time coming to Spoken Funk maybe one year ago, and I didn't necessarily know what the show was about but I left feeling inspired because the poets were incredible. The show actually had organic poetry and not just gimmicky poets putting on a show and I appreciated that. With that being said Spoken Funk is definitely a good show to come see if you want some genuine poetry and some feel good comedy in the Hollywood area. My favorite part of the show was when the host Poetri called a person from the audience to sing the national anthem, it was hilarious but we showed her love and it was a awsome show opener. read more

We were invited here and we had no idea what to expect. Ended up enjoying it a lot. The host Poetri mans the front door before the show and he makes an effort to learn everyone's name and actually uses them during the show. If you buy the VIP tickets, you'll end up sitting on the couches right up front. Prime audience participation seats if you're into that. The comedy and poetry were clean and funny (or thought provoking in case of the poets). All of the performers were African American as was most of the audience but don't let that deter you if aren't because it is a friendly vibe. DJ Gimel likes to play the 90s jamz so that it an added bonus. They have a decent amount of audience interaction which was pretty fun too. Pretty wide age range in the audience.
