I had passed by this place a gazillion times and always said that we needed to stop in. We finally did and I'm glad! This is a casual bicycle-themed Bar and grill. It's quite spacious with seating on both sides of the bar in different rooms ( does that make sense? ). There are two indoor dining areas and a stage for live shows. There's also a big patio with retractable doors for when the weather is less hot. There is some pretty cool stuff to see, including an entire full size bike that somebody crocheted a cover for - - and it covers everything - - The tires the seat the handlebars! We had a very sweet server who took our order, although it looks like you can put an order in on your phone as well. My son ordered the carnitas enchiladas. I was a little unsure, since this is not a Mexican restaurant, but they were actually really good. I really like the red sauce! I ordered a build-your-own burger, to which I added avocado and pepper jack cheese. I loved that the burger was cooked well. By well I mean not a well done gray Patty, but just the perfect amount of pink. I also loved that adding the avocado meant adding a lot of avocado! I ordered the half and half fries, which was half waffle fries and half sweet potato fries. They were good! We really like this place. Recently I attended a convention in the area, so my friends and I wanted to try a local spot nearby. Yelp search led me to this location, and I'm so glad we stopped by as our server Melissa was fantastic! When we arrived, it was easy to seat ourselves as there is plenty of seating both indoors and on the patio. I can see the patio being gorgeous during the winter and spring, which just means we will have to visit again. We started with some starters which my friends kept raving about the Brussels sprouts, which intrigued me to inquire if they can make vegetarian next time so I can partake. My queso dip and chips was a great way to start, and we all enjoyed the starters. For our entrees, we all tried something different ranging from grilled cheese (mine) to sandwiches and a burger. We all loved what we chose and loved the waffle fries. I definitely could see us returning and the brunch menu peeked my interest as I think it could be a beautiful patio brunch in the winter. Always looking for a great location with a patio to get fresh air for weekend brunches with friends. Overall, a really great experience and if in the area then I would check this location out! I had such a great time at Spokes on Southern, but the real standout of the occasion was Zac. He was both our bartender and server, and he absolutely crushed it. Friendly, fast, and on top of everything without ever feeling rushed. He knew the menu, had great recommendations, and somehow managed to keep the whole place running smoothly while still giving us personal attention. Drinks were fantastic, food was delicious, and Zac's energy just made the whole experience better. You can tell he genuinely enjoys what he does, and it shows in the way he treats guests. This place has gone down in recent years. This used to be our go to spot for Wednesday night drinks after softball for 7 years. It was cheap, great value, and friendly staff. That's all changed in the last 6-8 months. Completely new staff and their portions have gotten extremely small for the cost of the food and the type of place it is. Their prices increased tremendously and mimic a decent restaurant. I think they forgot they are a bar where it smells like throw up. $12.99 for 10 small nuggets (boneless wings) is outrageous. Third time, but not the last time at Spokes. Met a few friends here last night and by surprise we had the same amazing server as we did last year. She was just as kind, positive, attentive, and helpful as she was the last time. They have a small, but strong menu sporting burgers, salads, appetizers, and southwest favorites. I got their pork carnival bowl with all beans. It was a little smaller this time than I remember previously, but still delicious. The pork is super tender with tons of flavor. I love that it comes with two lightly fried tortillas that pair well with the bowls yummy ingredients! I wasn't able to finish the bowl, but thankfully it makes really great leftovers! I love that they have an inside and outside space. Outside has tons of tables right near a cute pond with ducks, geese, and turtles. Welp... this is a disappointment, they are literally walking distance to my house and they FAILED... When we walked in there was like a 10 -12 year old sitting at the bar. In Illinois it's illegal as much as I hate that state they got that law right, it's inappropriate for a child to sit at a bar...anyways. It's a hot queso dip it is pretty easy to make and yet they FAILED, miserably, the queso was so cold the chips broke, they even took it back and "reheated it" still unable to be eaten.... I treated my son and DIL with a pre-Thanksgiving meal here. We arrived at 5:30pm Tuesday with plenty of parking still available. We sat outside as I had my dog with me. Our server quickly became overwhelmed with a children's indoor party so our service seriously lagged. But we were in no hurry, catching up with with current events. (Who has a children's party at a beer pub?!) I ordered spinach enchiladas. My DIL had a Southwest chicken sandwich and my son settled for a bacon burger. Our food took a while and my dish was luke warm and not hot as it should have been, but I didn't complain as the burger and fries my son ordered were steaming hot. Portions were filling enough. The shells on my enchiladas were cool and hard but I was so hungry I ate everything. My meal would have been so much tastier had it been served fresh and hot. We ordered a topped brownie for dessert. I had one cup of coffee but it was the worst coffee I had had: it was too acidic and was probably sitting in the pot too long. I normally have several cups of coffee but this time I only had one. Both coffee and brownie took very long. I was a little disappointed overall and it wasn't the server's fault, but we did feel ignored on the patio where others were also sitting. Spokes On Southern is the perfect late night local bar that has a great selection of drinks and a real kitchen that has great food. The service is phenomenal for a bar. The seating is vast, with lots of options. The noise level isn't stupidly loud but moderate and allows you to hear everyone at your table. The prices are reasonable. Last night, after playing hockey in Chandler, we needed to grab dinner around 10:45pm. On the drive home to Mesa, we scoured the online choices for what might be open. A friend texted me a recommendation for Spokes on Southern, so we stopped in. The place was open late, and the kitchen ran until midnight. We arrived about 1050pm, and it was a small crowd of just a few people at the bar and a table. The barkeep quickly came to our table and took our drink order, after which he returned quickly with the drinks and took our app and beer orders. He was helpful and on top of things very quickly. I ordered some wings and the crispy chicken sandwich. My son ordered the Carver Burger. The wings were nicely fried and large, and tasty. The crispy chicken was absolutely awesome, with a gigantic moist chicken filet, perfect crispy breading, and delicious toppings and sauces. Seriously, it may be the best chicken sandwich I've ever had. The carver burger cooked perfectly, and the full of flavor. I also had the cup of tomato bisque soup as a side, and it was likewise surprisingly excellent. The crunchy waffle fries were perfect, too. The price tag on the food and drinks was reasonable, and the one-man barkeep server was running the whole show like a champ. Having trouble finding good late night food that doesn't taste crappy? My fiancé and I have gone to Spokes a number of times. Generally speaking, we have good service while sitting in the bar area. In 6/6, we had a party of 5 and sat in the dining area. The service was awful. 1. The waitress spoke so low we had to ask her to repeat herself often. 2. She forgot to put our appetizer order in. (We were comped the price at the end of the night) 3. 4 of us got our order in a reasonable time but the 5th person got theirs after we were all finished and had been there for quite some time. 4. We rarely saw the waitress. 5. The food was sub par I will say the restaurant was busier than I've seen it but that does not excuse the lack of attention. We often had to go look for someone to get water refills, drink orders, check on the food. I was shocked at how bad it was. In my experience, the restaurant should be prepared for a change in the forecasted customers. I'll mark this experience as a 3 but only because I know it's reasonable most of the time but hope Spokes recognizes their service failed on 6/6. read more

Seriously, at first I wasn't too sure how I felt about the place. However, it's next to the school and a few classmates and myself will head over for a quick one every now and again. I was surprised last night, they will sub portobello for any burger patty and even for their steak options which is stellar for veganish/vegetarianish folks such as myself. The servers have always been cool. Last night, our server was the icing on the cake! Very accommodating to anything we asked. My gf asked if they had mashed potatoes and immediately, our server thought "well, we do have a sweet potato mash we use in the stuffed publano pepper, we can do that for you". It wasn't what we wanted but the thought alone was awesome. I dig this place! There is a pond next to the patio with the cute little ducks giving nice scenery. My family came to Spokes on Southern for the 1st time. It was delicious! I ordered the medium bone in wings and they were yummy! The spice was just right for being medium Buffalo sauce, and the wings weren't swimming in it like some places. The mushroom and Swiss burger was cooked to perfection, no red to be seen, and was still hot temperature-wise went it came from the kitchen. Props to the cook on this one! The only downside was they didn't carry Clamato so I couldn't have a clam beer, or a Caesar, but the Bloody Mary was still pretty good. My 5 year old loved the waffle fries! On a Saturday afternoon there weren't too many customers inside, only about 2 or 3 tables occupied, but the parking lot was full... curious... Apparently there was a fundraiser commencing on the patio. I was starving so I was glad the place was empty, hoping to get served faster. Order 1. Cheese Curds- like fried mozzarella sticks but waaay better. Chewy bites of cheese and battered in a light coating. Dip it in some ranch and I could easily snack on these at any time of the day! A nice helping in a cup that is enough for sharing. 2. Bourbon Pork Sandwich- This sounded delicious; A brioche bun with pulled pork and and BBQ sauce with a slaw topping- it was a recipe for success. Unfortunately it fell flat to me. The pork had bits of crispiness because I think they threw it on the grill to either heat it up or purposely give it crispiness. Either way I didn't mind. Crispy is my favorite texture. However, where the sandwich took dump was with the sauce and slaw. The pork was drowned in sauce and the sauce was really sweet and kind of generic tasting. The sauce overwhelmed the bread and all I could taste was the sauce. The slaw topping was also too 'wet' and added to the drippy, saucy, soaked sandwich. I'm sad that the balance of the sandwich was off and the sauce ruined the flavor. 3. Salmon BLT- was recommended and seems to be the popular item amongst the restaurant-goers. For me, not impressed. The sandwich was on buttery Texas toast with melty cheese and bacon, normally can't go wrong with that combo. And the salmon was moist, so i'll give them that. But I was a little disappointed. Even though I was starving, it just didn't wow me. I don't know if it was because it was hyped up, but I think it was missing that OOMPH on my taste buds. I think this place can be a good hang out. The patio gives it a pleasant ambiance with shaded seating next to the fountain. This place seems like the night life would be a fun atmosphere with the live music sets and other sections of the restaurant with the bar games. We chose a table that had line of sight into the kitchen where we saw the waitress playing with her hair and plating food. We had line of sight to the bar where the bartender was blowing his nose, messing with his hair, rubbing his face, eating food and still serving customers. My husband's burger was way undercooked (he requested well) and his root beer float was forgotten until we asked for it. The waitress left it in the back waiting for the foam to reduce and then forgot it until it was warm.
