    Basketball Courts
    Owen C.

We were here for the under Armour youth girls's basketball tournament. This place is insane and appears to be a large money pit. First, the facilities are really interesting. With so many teams here to play basketball there was definitely a variety of quality between courts. Sponsor teams had premium space like in my photos, but other teams just had modified all purpose sports space. Not a really good set up proceeding for anybody who is there with their youth. Unfortunately, everything cost something here. It starts with an exorbitant amount for parking. Since this is not an NFL stadium, it seems very ridiculous to have a parking fee that you could not avoid by parking further away. Otherwise, the amount of commercial cash grabs here from food to merch was rather blasé. If this is what funding their business model, I guess I can understand, but it does not feel right. This place does not really teach the rigor of sporting to me, and rather just shows how commercialization has made sports problems.

While attending the basketball tournament at Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Lancaster, PA, a young man (the scorekeeper) became agitated when we, as parents, questioned his abilities in keeping the teams' scores. He was giving the wrong team the points. When questioned, he used expletives that my adult son would never use towards any adult. This young man has no respect for adults or himself. The words he used, "n-g_er," "this n_gg_er," were unbelievable. He was always on his phone.

I had the opportunity to visit Spooky Nook Sports arena for a two day basketball tournament. in my two days I was able to see the pros and cons of this complex. there's not a lot of signage directing you where to go so you just have to figure it out between the multiple buildings. There were a lot of tournaments that go on at the same time, so parking was very tight. If you coming to this facility, you may have to walk quite a ways to get to your vehicle. Seating is limited so be sure to bring your own chair, and the concessions are kind of limited so if you have special dietary needs, you may want to have something close by in your car. For this to be such a large facility the bathrooms were fairly well-maintained. All in all, Spooky Nook is suitable for its purpose.

Hardwood courts are amazing but the temporary blue courts aren't. There are only 10 hardwood courts and only the best teams get to play on them, the rest of the teams play on the blue courts where the rims aren't right and the courts make the ball bounce weird. The food court is average, but don't get the pretzels! They may look good but the taste like they've been soaking in pickle juice and are sour for some reason? Weird taste. The sports store is superb with Overtime gear, basketball shoes, spooky nook merchandise and so much more. T-shirts are $10 and Hoodies are $25, best deal ever! I got them December 2024 and they still haven't changed condition after countless wears. If you are on a team that's playing here don't miss out on coming! Also if you get there the night before games start you can shoot around for free!

We came for a national basketball tournament and it was an awesome experience for the kids. They have 31 courts, a cafeteria, Arcade, sports apparel store, hotel, which are just some of the amenities. The place can get crowded, but the staff is nice and great with facilities events. Their is ample parking, but it is $10 per day if you are not staying at their hotel and a $20 entrance fee per day for spectators unless you get the 2 day pass for $35.

I'm truly impressed. I was visiting from Florida for an Xcel gymnastics meet and I've never seen a sports complex like this before. It was packed so you know it's a popular spot for sports. Huge basketball court area, soccer field, walking/running track, weight area, baseball/softball field, a large covered dome, etc. They have lots of good options for food - pizza, burgers, sushi, hot dogs and so much more. The only thing I'll say about the food is that my pizza was a little sliver of a slice in a standard slice box (that could definitely be better) and it was cold. We had lemonade from a vendor that was good and some dipping dots. The açaí looked good and fresh too but I didn't try that. I noticed a couple of medical office (ortho and ophthalmology) too when I visited which would be convenient for a person visiting. Really nice. I enjoyed my visit.

Great courts, the volleyball director is exceptional, and the coaches included. Nicely run tournaments!

The up ref stand is practically on the left sideline.

I was there again last year during club volleyball season. This is how they set up the referee stand on each court. The parents subsequently move them off the court. The set up spectator seating on the baseline. The parents again had to move the seats at least 6 feet from the baseline. If you host volleyball tournaments, you need to have the right equipment and hire the right people to set up the court. You are putting athletes at risk. This happened because they set up more courts to accommodate a larger tournament while their venue was truly not big enough. The tournament sponsor should have shut down registration rather than taking more teams to make more money. This is an absolute embarrassment. The facility needs to do better.

The ATM inside of Spookynook gives only $60 at a time and has a $4 surcharge

The parking lot is huge and there is no problem. The courts are well maintained. The space between courts is manageable. There is a stadium court with bleachers. We didn't play there. More recently I've paid a per person daily fee to use the pool, although it does also allow you to use the entire facility. One thing I will say is it is aways crowded, no matter what time or where you are in the building. Classes fill up quick. Swimming classes are booked several months in advance, and the lot is always full. One thing that is disappointing, hence the 4 stars instead of 5 is the before/after school program. While when my daugher was in school it was available to any parent that needed it. Now, they have limited spots and no opening. My grandson has been on a wait list now since August and it's now Feb. That sucks for working parents! And it could very well be a sign of the times post covid, with employee shortages. The indoor pool is wonderful. I have yet, even after all these years been to the one outside in season but I'm sure it's equally as impressive. The indoor pool is large, and while you do need to check the schedule for free swim times, they do have it roped off for laps. I believe it goes to 13' and has a diving board. There's tables/chairs around the pool to put your stuff and a changing area in that area. There is also locker rooms down the hallway. The ladies has a dry sauna, showers, and a machine that rings out your suits. I especially like that pool toys, floats, and swim aids are allowed, as I take my three young grandchildren, none of which can swim. You do need to bring your own towels, etc. I do think the pricing is high for membership as well as a $10/per person daily rate if like me you just stop in to use the pool. The $10/pp was firm, even for my one grandson who is an infant. Still a great place to patronize. Check their website because they are very community minded and some of their special events do not require membership although they might have a small fee.

My son has high functioning autism.I have never expected him to receive special treatment or to avoid consequences when he makes mistakes. My concern has always been that he be treated fairly, consistently, and with the understanding required of any child with a documented disability. Instead, I experienced poor communication, inconsistent expectations, and a lack of meaningful collaboration despite my repeated efforts to work with staff. I documented my concerns through email and made every effort to partner with the program to help my son succeed, but I was ultimately left feeling that he was viewed as a problem rather than a child who needed support. I want to be clear that this review is not directed at the few teachers, that showed him kindness and support. My concerns are specifically with how the recreation program handled the situation. Every family's experience may be different, but ours was disappointing enough that I cannot recommend this program to families of children who may need patience, consistency, and a willingness to work together After exhausting my attempts to resolve the situation directly with the program, I filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice because I believed the issues warranted further review

It was held inside (which was a relief on a cold, blistery day) in the small community building located at the park. Inside featured a visit (and online picture) with Santa, a stunning train and dollhouse display, a craft, as well as hot coca and cookies. There was street parking as well as a parking lot. The park itself consists of small playground and open green space. The community building is small, but clean, and contained a small kitchen. I bet it's available for rent through the borough for baby showers, etc. The inside was decorated nicely with several tables complete with seasonal tablecloths and centerpieces. The craft; reindeer food, was easy enough to make for all age groups and a cute idea consisting of bread crumbs, oatmeal flakes, and gold glitter for "speed power". The college age volunteers that manned this table were friendly and engaging with the children. The train/dollhouse display was spectacular - I loved it! It depicted a typical Lancaster Co farm scene, complete with operational train that cruised thru the mock farmland - complete with a faux pond (containing a miniature frog!), a barnyard complete with animals, and was very detailed with roads, bridges, etc. The dollhouse was equally impressive with a Xmas tree, ornately detailed furniture and room features, and working lights. My granddaughters were in awe. Santa was nice and his display was the perfect backdrop for the free (online - pull the picture from their Facebook page) photo op + you were welcomed and encouraged to take your own also. Cocoa and coffee were available free of charge, as well a free cookie for kids. Adults could purchase a cookie as well. While I thought the idea and execution of the event was great there was room for improvement in terms of space planning. Perhaps this review will get their attention for next year's event. The building is on the smallish side and although tables were provided they were very close together and it was hard to maneuver around the features. There was a huge family of 6 that congregated and were constantly in the way everywhere we went, with adults talking and catching up. I wanted to tell them to sit the hell down because they were oblivious to "excuse me's" or the fact that they were blocking everyone's way. It was really a problem, not just for us but others as well. I wish one of the volunteers would have recognized this and encouraged them to have a seat. Too much space was designated to the Santa display as well and the line to Santa directed around the train/dollhouse table instead of being on its own. Had that display been moved and the Santa line been straight forward you wouldn't need to take up space in the Santa line just to view the display. All very petty items I know but they really did impact our experience. Had there been more space to move around we would have loved to stay longer. Also had I seen a donation jar we would have generously donated to the cause. NOTE: This review is based solely on my experience at Santa in the Park - held Saturdays in December.
