Came on a Tuesday morning just as they were opening and I was in and out in less than 10 minutes. To put it into perspective, I was at another retailer the day prior that I've used in the past for the same service and that retailer already had 5 customers in line at opening and could only have my skates sharpened and ready by 2:30pm the earliest. Both are great local shops, but Newson's edges the competition due to convenience and affordability.

They carry top of the line brands and will have an option for any size, price point or specialty request. The customer service their is marvellous. Everyone is super personable, understanding and willing to help you the second you walk in. They gave me a really good price on a new mountain bike (close to $500 off), gave me a great discount on clipped peddles and threw in almost $100 dollars worth of other accessories. All bikes come with a long warranty backed by a few of the best bike mechanics in the GTA (in my experience). Repair times depend on the mechanic you get but 95% of the time the repairs are super fast. I've never had a problem remerge or not be fully fixed after taking it there. They have everything a veteran rider, beginner cyclist or anyone in-between could ever want and more. They sell bikes (of course), biking attire (both loose MTB gear and aerodynamic lycra), any kind of bike part, bike maintenance things, turbo trainers and so much more. There's intangibles that this boutique shop brings that let you know the work and care that Martin and David put into running this shop. From the handwritten price tags to the displays of bells, handlebars, pedals, saddles, racks and panniers, cogs, cranks, hubs and lights, and even a panel of bar ends the attention to detail and displays show that it is a collective effort of people who care about the customer and making a shop that is as well dressed as the things they sell. Another item of note, the care they take with the work they do. While I get that much bike repair involves tools in tight spaces and using a lot of torque, but as someone who takes very careful care of their bike, I appreciate when I get my bike back from repair free of dings, scratches and gouges. Although I don't think any damage is ever deliberate, I think the extra care being taken is. This has now become my favorite bike store. Parts, service, getting what you need either in stock or by special order, there isn't much I feel is out of reach here. Worth the trip!

Hoopdriver Bicycles is my neighbourhood bike shop. I've gotten a couple of things done there…read more First, I had new chains put on my bike. Recently, I had my front quick-release wheel stolen and gotten it replaced at the Hoopdriver. The owner of the shop is great. He isn't overly-friendly, which I like. He is soft-spoken and gets down to business. I think he pays close attention to the bikes he works on, which I, as a customer, expect and appreciate. The Hoopdriver's prices are a bit steeper, but I'm willing to pay a bit extra for my neighbourhood bike shop to stay open. They also seem to be queer-friendly at the shop, which is important to me. The Hoopdriver is also next door to The Common. So you can grab a coffee while you wait for your bike to be fixed/checked up!

I purchased my Giant carbon fibre bike after doing my research and being offered a pretty good price for it. Everything was handled very well. I was properly measured before choosing the size, and my bike was fitted to me after the order came in. They also offer full geometric fitting services independent of bike services for a fee. They're quite thorough. They have repair services as well. Overall it's a good specialty store. They have a very wide range of bikes, and can order just about anything you want. They have their own parking in the plaza. Their hours are very limited, though.

I have been a customer for some years for my bike servicing - I…read moreeven purchased a spinning bike during Covid and referred others because I have been happy with them. Last week I had a tune up and two tire replacements. On my second day out the front tire started to go down. I stopped at a bike shop on the way back from Port Credit to Toronto. Tires get punctures - I know that. The technician showed me the puncture mark but also showed me something he said he had never seen before - a fastening nut he said was in the tire itself - the assumption then that this happened by accident when the two tires were replaced. I went to Poppawheelie because they needed to know - David flat out refused this story - I asked why would the shop tell me that - I wasn't looking for anything after all and they had nothing to gain. Poppawheelie told me I should have come to their shop but this was 10 miles at least - it had to be fixed where I was. We never got around to what I wanted and I was just made to feel as if I was trying something on. And that really is the point when things go awry - how does the customer feel about the way they are handled. Poppawheelie a hint - you lost a loyal customer over this and you could have managed it so much better - I hadn't expected a full refund but was reporting what as a business you needed to hear-I certainly wasn't expecting to be made to feel the villain. If the other guy was lying that is inexpicable to me. So, I am left assuming this was negligence on someones part.
