I work in the fashion industry and shop at stores all the time. The year before I moved to LA, I came out to visit my sister and she knows I have a love for shoes. So where did she bring me when I came out ....? Sportie. LA. Upon entry, my eyes went from ground level and started moving upward at least 2 feet past my height of nothing...........but...........shoes. It was overwhelming, I was almost in need of CPR. * Nikes * Reeboks * Pumas * Vans * Jordan's * PF Flyers * Adidas * Toms I mean their shoe game runs deeper than 12-foot pool! That's pretty deep player. And the socks!!!!! I nice selection of socks from various companies. I like the variety they showed in their sock game. Someone like me will notice that, acknowledge it & then proceed to appreciate it. So anyway....... My sister brings me in and I find a shoe I'm rockin' with. I ask the rep, "You got these in a 10?". He instantly replies, "No". I'm like, ok damn -- like you not even gonna check bruh? Before I could reply he said, "But let me check my other location down the street. They might have it." Yo, you should've seen my face. ANOTHER STORE DOWN THE STREET?! You mean there's more!!!!! I couldn't believe it. Apparently, there wasn't just one more store down the street, there were SEVERAL!! No, but I'm so serious. On Melrose, between Fairfax & La Brea there were at least 4 locations that I was told about (I believe there are only three currently). They even have one shop solely dedicated to kids shoes. So back to my initial experience........ The homie called down the street and what do you know......?! THEY HAD THEM! But was I told to walk down the street and pick 'em up? Nope. Shoes were hand delivered to me at the location I was currently at. That experience was over five years ago. But l still remember it. Do NOT go just to look. It will be a fate far worse than being stoned at an all you can eat buffet --see: Round Table pizza This place is the devil's playground for anyone who digs sneakers. From original Jordans, to designer Vans, and every Chuck Taylor you could imagine, this place has something for everyone. BUT what sets it aside from any other sneaker store I've seen in LA is their well rounded operation. Not only do they have a wide variety and ever changing merchandise, but you can find good deals if you look hard. Now but what I mean as hard: willing to try on multiple sizes--the selection is so vast they don't always have all sizes. This allows them to get in way more stuff, but it may or may not be available in your size. That being said, they almost always have the model--just in a different color. I've gotten 1990 Air Max for $60, Some original Air Flights 1989's for $75 on a sale just the other day. Their rare shoes hit $150 easy but they constantly have sales. This place has original Reebok Pumps, every Air Jordan ever made, a ton of Nike Dunks, Elastic Chucks via Ed Hardy, and a enough Vans to skate or die 4eva! I haven't tried their other locations but this place is worth checking out. Parking is tough--street metered or side street (beware of permit restrictions). Don't be afraid to be aggressive with help. During rush hour you gotta hustle. And the workers don't wear t-shirts or anything so you gotta ask around at the counter if need be. read more

If they'd worked out how to market themselves back in 97 when I first visited they might have challenged the sneaker boutiques around town. They do not have my size. and Now a stack with a small shoes or $165 credit in there store. I do not need anything else, why I need this credit?????? Very disappointed. I've Been coming here for a long time. Recent pair I bought was a pair of black PF flyers. Shoes were put to the test. Lots of comfort and lots of work was done in them. They lasted me about 9 months. (: cool shoe never got stinky. Really nice interior and store has a dope selection of shoes. Their parking lot is filled with great art. Huge amount of awesome looking shoes that cost slightly less than they do in regular stores. This ain't a regular store. The ony way in is through a tiny clutter section then they have a pit and finally a nice open section with wall to wall shoes . See if you can find Voltron in the open section, which is also the best area of the whole damn store. The shoes they get are really nice and sometims you can find some rare shoes. The prices are usally better than foot locker The staff is helpful so ask them about anything. Paying at the cashier can get annoying because it's in the cramped section. By far, Sportie LA is like a Los Angeles sneaker mecca. While you won't find some Tier zero or quickstrike Nike sneakers here, you can kind some nice general releases for very affordable prices. The thing you will notice about the store is that the front looks a lot like a discount shoe store, filled to the brim of older releases that you might have missed throughout the years, all deadstock. The back of the store is pretty much sneaker boutique style. If you are looking for the hyped and limited shoes, you are out of luck. But if you are a person who loves to wear their kicks and don't mind how limited it is, then this place is absolutely perfect. A great number of Nike retros are available here, as well as some nice modern sneaker brands such as Creative Recreation. The best thing about Sportie LA is the shear variety of sneakers for men and women. Generally, most sneaker boutiques lack a good selection of shoes for women. But this place is somewhere between a boutique and a discount emporium. All the major brands are here. Even some Bapestas are sitting on the shelves. I am a sucker for Alpha Forces, Terminators, and Reebok Pumps. Also, these Jordan Retros make me drool. There are custom sneakers as well as those gigantic Shaq-sized shoes. So if pretty sneakers are your thing, bring a lot of money and get ready to max out your credit card. read more

Do NOT order from this place online. I heard about Sportie LA from a friend of mine and decided to check out their website to see what they had. I found a pair of Vans that I really wanted and placed my order. I got a confirmation email as usual and it told me that my order was currently being processed and the staff was "making sure my shoes are in stock". Okay, fine. I figured that their website inventory would be accurate but I guess I was wrong because the confirmation email also said that I would receive a follow up email to either tell me that my shoes had been shipped or that I would be notified of what other sizes were available. Well, a week went by and I received neither email. Neither a shipping confirmation nor a follow up email. So naturally, I assume the shoes were never available to begin with. I would recommend calling this place and asking about a certain style instead of going through their beyond crappy website. It'll save you a giant headache. My breathing quickens, I start to perspire slightly, I can see raised the veins in my forearms a little too well, my eyes widen and my pupils dilate. I am not having an orgasm, unfortunately, but close. This is the overwhelming excitement of stepping into Sportie LA. The soundtrack is essentially my iPod (an East Coast hip-hop extravaganza) and I am surrounded by Onitsuka after Puma after Asics after Adidas shoe upon shoe. I think to myself, if I had some pumpkin pie to snack on right now I might just be able to call this heaven. There is something for everyone here, not just the unique, eccentric flat soles I'm painstakingly trying to narrow down. It's between the patent black and silver snowflake Thai Asics and the gold and tan Puma sprinters that I'm agonizing, when it occurs to me, as it does every time, as though it never had before: put a pair on hold and come back! Good selection of shoes but the store is a mess, prices are higher than retail and customer service is nonexistent. They don't stand behind their sales and sent me off to Nike to return defective shoes I had purchased from Sportie. Nike issued me a store credit for MSRP, but of course Sportie had charged me more than MSRP. One of the older ladies that works there (manager? owner?) was totally rude and was basically yelling at me in the middle of their store. Called me a liar when I told her I spoke to her on the phone, described my situation and she told me to come in and she'd help me. Fun! It was very difficult to only leave with two pair of shoes, but I managed. I got a cute pair of Gola ballet flats for work, and a designer-y pair of Vans I've yet to see anyone else wearing, for just over $100 total. You want dunks? They've got 'em. Puma's? Check. Saucony? Stumbled upon Sportie LA completely by accident, but I must say this is hands down the best shoe store I have ever been to. This place is a trip down memory lane, I must have found 5 or 6 of my original kicks from the 80's that I would beg/borrow/steal to wear when I was a kid. Puma, Roos, old school Jordan III and IV, Reebok Pumps, Nike Penny Hardaways, I could go on forever. Prices were quite reasonable too. I now officially understand how women feel when Nordstrom has their annual sale and they are clawing/elbowing each other for those Vera Wang/Kate Spade/Jimmy Choo/blahblah pumps gleaming on the display rack. BEWARE!!! This store gives ZERO refunds!!! Even if you come back one hour later with shoes u purchased but never wore... they will NOT give you your money back. Only a store credit. Whereas... Nike in Beverly Hills WILL give u your money back within 30 days of purchasing your shoes - no questions asked - even if they have been worn. Reebok gives back refunds... Every shoe store in America gives back a refund but Sportie LA. And for laughs... If u do try to get your money back, the employees will point to your receipt as evidence of their "store policy." Um... The problem with that is... By the time u learn of their unfair policy regarding no refunds... YOU'VE ALREADY PAID FOR YOUR SHOES!!! And if u try to talk to the owner, he'll tell u about how he has never once given a refund since his store opened. Wonderful. What faaaaaaantastic customer service to brag about. I haven't been to Sportie La in years and now I remember why! The place is a mess, with sneakers thrown everywhere. Completely unorganized. The staff could care less about helping, and when you are finally seated to try things on, you wait over 20 minutes for them to attempt to bring ur selections! When they do come back with the ugliest versions of your choice, they claim they are out of stock. They did not have one pair of running shoes that I chose! "So Many Choices...So Little Time." Looking for some rare, hard-to-find sneakers and track suits? Check out Sportie LA. They've got TONS of cool kicks in every brand, style and color you can imagine. It can be quite overwhelming the fist time you step foot inside Sportie LA, wall to wall, floor to ceiling, racks and stacks of shoes and tracks! I came in to find a pair of PUMA Cabana Racers in a particular color (royal blue/white) and they had them in seven or eight other different colors that neither the stores or online carried. I fell in love with these chocolate brown/mint green ones that I saw, so I ended up buying those instead. YES!...I was VERY happy with my purchase! New funky fresh kicks! I've also bought a few of my ADIDAS Originals track suits and my green/yellow PONY track jacket, all in colors and styles that are rare and not easy to find. They also carry the cutest track suits for kids!!! The downside, service is ok, parking is a bitch and the store is small and when it's a bit crowed, it makes it quite difficult to find something good. read more

I was staring for a good 15 min before asking if they carried Gola's and realized they were directly in front of my face the entire time but couldn't see them. Ahhh, the elusive sneaker... I can nearly guarantee, if you can't find the shoe you're looking for here, it doesn't exist. I've found missing links in this place for years, consistently, and I don't even want to know how these guys are finding them. People are probably getting shot for these shoes somewhere in Eastern Europe. It's that crazy. I've found THREE separate pairs of discontinued trainers in this place on three separate occasions, in the size and color I was looking for, and not even at a marked-up price. Deadstock Sneaker Heaven This place has been holding it down on Melrose for years and continues to be one of the only shops to worth going to on the street. Sportie LA has a immense shoe display that just about covers every inch of wall and floor space, unfortunately they are rarely stock more then one size unless it is in the back show room. This is not the place for Nike Tier 0 or SB (skateboarding) releases but they more then make up for it with their Adidas, Puma, and Reebok accounts. Their DS (deadstock) reminds me of Harputs in SF. If you are looking for some GR (general release) kicks that came out over a year ago, this is the place to try. Stay away from the cute asian chick that works there she can be annoying and will forget that you asked about a shoe. I have a long standing love affair with shoes dating back to my tomboy days, playing in the dirt, and being my brother's bat girl in little league, so this is where I'm coming from. Sportie LA is my heaven, sneaker head heaven. There is no sneaker store I have ever come across that compares to the extensive selection, exclusivity, special edition or limited collection of shoes than this spot in Los Angeles. It is the home of the rarest sneaks around, ask Siri says their Instagram. I initially went in to find high top women's Royal Elastics, as this is the only spot other than the factory in LA that normally carries the brand. Unfortunately, if you can't find them here, you can't find them anywhere else. Why? Because they have everything. Current and new edition kicks, limited edition, and ones I had never, ever seen before.The shoes at Sportie LA will make you win Best Dressed Superlative all over again. It has a great selection for the California customer (rows of Vans, Chucks, PF Flyers) as well as the shoe fanatic. I'm obsessed with their old school adidas collection, retro shoes, vintage Jordans, and womens dunks. There store is larger on the inside than meets the eye on the outside, and yes shoes are piled high and across. I don't like that they don't have prices accessible, as most are retail or slightly higher if customized, but its not a deal breaker. The customer service was excellent. I came in for one specific thing, with no women's shoe available, they still scowered the store to find the smallest men's size, ultimately it not working out but great attention and care, as well as other possible options. read more

I hate the setup of this store. They pack so much in there on the walls and aisles and racks, that there is hardly any place to walk/stand/sit. Add in all the shoppers and staff running around like chickens with their heads cut-off, and it spells a migraine headache. I'd have to be in the mood to come here, as well as have a bankroll, because I know I'll be sure to find at least a couple pairs I want. Sportie LA has quite a few sneaks that are priced higher than msrp, being discontinued, limited, etc... Where they really shine is the selection of everything else, from Nikes to Pumas to Chucks and Vans. They have some colorways you'd see at a mall shoe store or department store, but also many you probably wouldn't. The selection can be a bit overwhelming. If you're ever in Seattle, check out a place called Sneaker City. Its concept is very similar to that of Sportie LA, but larger with more space and not as likely to induce a headache. read more

Leather vans, square perforated, color: windsor wine, size: 13mens= the most impossible shoe in america to locate. This shoe is a part of the vans vault collection, which is not even available at the Vans store or at vans.com! And most shoe stores don't carry too many 13s in most styles. I saw them in the window at a store called villains up here in the haight and had, had, had to get them for a very important dreamboat with an upcoming birthday. I called at least twelve stores up and down the coast of california before the amazing Jenny at Sportie LA told me she had them. She walked me thru the steps of purchasing over the phone and even included a little customized birthday note I asked her to write. It's difficult to not find a pair of sneakers you like, here. And if you have kids, all the better, as there is a kids shop two doors down. You won't find Sesame Street New Balances at your local Nordstrom! The owners/workers here are super friendly, and are pretty quick to run your shoes.
