A great place, well priced, rustic, or one local describe it to me best: "old Florida". We loved it. Coffee and pastries outside in the morning, 10 peacocks, and peahens roaming the property give this place a soul that other nearby properties don't have. Water views from your deck. We are on a two month coast to coast bike trip and this was the best deal for a room on the entire trip. Highly recommended. read more

A "nice find" conveniently located on East Point. Less than a block off Hwy 98. Beautiful views. You can literally walk out of your room and fish in the bay. A Franklin County public park with a boat ramp is next door. The park has plenty of parking and handicap access with an aluminum wheel chair ramp. The lodge is 3 minutes or less to the bridge to St George Island which means you can easily fish from the old bridge, which is now a public pier. A "Twice the Ice" machine for $2.00 per 20 pounds of ice is located 300 yards north of the bridge entrance to St George (on the East Point side). A kitchenette room, which is the largest, with two double beds was $277.95" out the door price" FOR 3 NIGHTS. That's $85 a day plus taxes. The rooms are slightly old fashion but I call it rustic. Well worth the price. Nice glass sliding doors give you great views. Yes, the rooms ARE clean and the beds ARE comfortable. Don't pick at the small things. They are not an issue. Rooms have outside covered seating too so don't worry about the weather. The area is well shaded and the air conditioning works exceptionally well and even had a remote control to control the AC from your bed. The kitchenette rooms have a table with 4 chairs too. You can park right outside your door room. There are grills available as well as picnic tables. The kitchens are properly stocked with what you need. The nice grill even had meat tongues and a wire brush for cleaning the grill. No hotel has nicer hospitality. If I could rate a 6-star, I would. read more

Most pleasant atmosphere was there to see a more quiet Florida, here it is , excellent food choices around and this was the perfect home base , the ultimate is coffee at 6.am as the sun rises with the peacocks cooing under the gazebo by the office surrounded by beautiful flowers read more

Ms Edda is the nicest person! Every time we visit we enjoy our stay!! We always want to spend more time, just for the peace & quiet, away from the craziness of our city. For now I'm going to say 3 star because for the squeamish, they may not like it. The people are nice, the water is great but it is old, it is a manly type place & fishermen love it! But if you like unique & rustic, you will like it. There were ants at the front door it we asked for spray & they have it to us. This IS Florida, and there will always be ants!! So I don't worry about it, it's not infested just needed to be sorted by front door. I always bring my own blankets & pillows so with the sheets that are on the bed, we'll be good. By tomorrow my review may change for better, hopefully not worse! Haha Okay, night went well, slept well & the a/c cranks!!! It was cold!! On the negative side, the refrigerator smells like fish. Ugh but this is used a lot by fishermen and so it's hard to kill that odor. The refrigerator is clean! Just had a lingering odor. Ugh. Fortunately for us, we really didn't need it as we were here for one night. Oh, the place is DOG FRIENDLY! That was one may reason for our stay here. Despite all the dirt outside and dogs being allowed, it really is alright here. But again for the squeamish, probably not so. It's peaceful, quiet and on the water, I'm upping my review to 4*! read more

What a treasure - and how lucky we were to find it. Very laid back and relaxing. Part summer camp part retreat. Right on the bay. Very dog friendly. Rooms were clean, spacious, and fresh. Owners are lovely people and they did a fantastic job of creating the perfect spot to get away to. Close the both bridges and easy to find. The price is fantastic! read more

This place is old Florida. It's cheap, no frills a little worn out but with clean rooms, nice people and an unbeatable location for fishermen. This was a good hotel for our fishing trip since we just needed a clean, cold, dark room to crash at the end of a full day on the water. read more

I have been going to the Sportsman's Lodge for twenty years. Etta and Bob are the best. Great view and you feel like you are a part of the family. This past time I met a great couple and their 2 dogs, and another person and we sat and talked on the balcony up in the treetops, under the stars and observed the peacocks roosting in the trees right in front of us. Very different and never a dull/lonely moment. read more

This place is a hidden gem and has real character-it's definitely not a cookie-cutter Best Western or Motel 6. Price is really reasonable compared to other lodging at St. George Island/Apalachicola. Owners are really friendly and nice to talk to. If you're looking for a semi-rustic but clean place that's really relaxed, check it out. There are peacocks, squirrels, and other birds roaming around property that don't bother people and mind their own business-it's really cool and unique. In additon, there is waterfront access where fisherman can catch dinner and fillet/clean their catch nearby. The rooms are simple but clean, and the kitchenette rooms have a small oven and stove so you don't have to eat out 3 times/day. AC/heater units are older window-mounted portables (i.e no central air), and adequately cool the room. That being said, bring bug spray since property is in the woods and there are biting critters that come out at night, at least during the summer months. read more

The reason I gave it a 4 star is because of the hospitality and the view. It may not be the cleanest ( by this i mean not modern and not spotless)but very comfortable(new mattresses) spacious and such a view. I would describe this as rustic with a very good atmosphere. read more

I am retracting the 4 stars and giving 5! We were trying to make it to st. George island when Tropical Storm Debby hit and we couldn't cross the bridge. We found this place and the owners were so accommodating. The rooms were spacious and clean and also per friendly. The next day, one of the owners, Edda, assured us we would have our rooms for the night. When they opened the bridge later that day she wouldn't even let us pay. How awesome! Thank you! read more

Great owner, she is wonderful and will take care of all needs at all times. Quick access to st.george island as well as appalachicola. Super low price for a wonderful spacious room. We like this place better than the beach houses on st.george... Very clean and you can't beat the view of the bay especially at sunset! read more

Kind of a quirky place. Apparently it used to actually be a fishing lodge and had a nice restaurant on the water but it is really only a motel now. You can keep a boat there and launch from a public ramp next door but there is no marina, bait shop or any other service for anglers. The restaurant was closed and deserted when I was there in 2014. You can walk out on the old deck but it doesn't look maintained or safe. Someone might be living in what remains of the old restaurant as you can see a bed if you look in the window... Walking out past the restaurant you encounter what appears to be a rather broke down rv park and a little walkway out to a nice scenic point through some curious yard ornaments and cheap broken sculptures. I actually liked this odd little viewing area. It would be nicer if it was maintained even just a little. The motel part is nice. It is a mix of "newer" 2 story motel rooms and singe occupancy units scattered haphazardly throughout the complex. The rooms I stayed in were clean and spacious. The owners were super friendly and as quirky as their business. I would have given the place 5 stars if it actually was a "Sportsman's Lodge" but without even a small tackle shop I couldn't do it. It is a clean and inexpensive place to stay though and I would go back again. I couldn't help thinking how much potential this place has as an actual establishment for anglers. It is ok the way it is though for people that want quirky instead of the run of the mill gentrified accommodations. read more

Very nice owners and a quiet, safe stay. We left 3 kayaks, a lot of fishing rods, and equipment in an open trailer for the entire week and lost nothing. We enjoyed fishing in the bay less than 100 feet from our door. Fishing on the point at night was the highlight for our grandsons( 11 and 14). They got several large sailcats and another fisherman took a large shark there. Very close to St. George Island where they fished off the beaches. We enjoyed Apalachicola also. The only complaints about this stay was that several bugs and a couple of spiders made it into our rooms but it wasn't infested just ground floor of paradise. And upkeep may need attention as the water to the fish cleaning station worked but leaked all the time only taped up with duct tape at the ground level. read more

If you stay here----bring a large bottle of febreeze (for the room and bed) and get ready to travel back to the seventy's. But not like it was when it was brand new in the seventies, like it has never been updated since the seventies. Wait, maybe you will get lucky and get one of the few slightly updated rooms. But keep in mind that if you do get a room that has not been remodeled, you still pay the same price as the ones that are updated (slightly). I do realize that this is not the Hilton, but GEEZ! I definitely do not get all the hype peolple are saying about this place, so I'm just trying to keep it real. Yes, the peacocks are pretty, but I will not be returning there ever! Ummm, the peacocks were pretty. I am still trying to write something positive about this place. Did I mention the peacocks? I had faith in all the great reviews I kept reading, but I was extemely disappointed after actually going there. read more
