Instead, I, foolishly, thought that that paying ahead online would speed up the process. I ordered at 11:00am. It is now 45 minutes to closing. The website said that the firearm was in stock and the estimated pick up was for today. Didn't happen. I even went in and was told that since I ordered and paid online that there was nothing that they could do. I called the 1-800 number and they were useless. I tried to call the store directly and nobody picked up the phone. This may be the last time that I ever buy a firearm from this place. What a joke. read more

I purchased a brand-new shotgun from this location, only to find the barrel coating chipped and the rib bent as soon as I got home. I drove 40 miles back to the store--this was the only location that had it in stock--expecting a refund or exchange. Instead, the gun manager told me they couldn't do either and that it had to be sent to the manufacturer for repair. Three months later, I was called to pick it up, only to discover nothing had been fixed because the store listed the wrong issue ("double feeding") on the repair slip. Back it went for another four months. When I finally received it again, the new barrel hadn't even been protected during shipping--another chip and visible rub marks due to careless packaging. What made this worse was the lack of support from the store. The gun manager and store manager were unhelpful throughout. When I asked them to contact the manufacturer for a status update, I was told they couldn't--and I had to do all the follow-up myself. I expected better customer care and communication--especially after the second shipment was only necessary because of their own mistake on the repair slip. read more

I've been coming to this Sportsman's forever. If you live in SLC it's one of the closer places to buy hunting and fishing supplies. If you order a gun online be prepared to wait to have your background check done. They have a online or text check in system that you use to reserve your spot for service. Depending on how busy it is the wait could be over an hour. SW also has a great fishing and camping section. I've purchased lures, flies, reel etc. Lots of car camping gear as well. Oh and don't forget the grills and smokers. Lots of cast iron as well. Really just a great store to wonder around. read more

I just reread my original review of Sportsman's from 2010 and realized I definitely need to update it, as they have quite clearly made some conscientious changes over the last decade and the things that were true then are not true now. While it does remain true that I spend a lot of time outdoors, I have found myself coming here less and less. Originally I wrote that the fishing section was great, and while you certainly will find more here than at your regular big box store, there are new players in the game that have a lot of what you're looking for. The selection of rods and reels has shrunk, the variety of lures has diminished, and the whole section, while once bulging with temptations, is now a utilitarian endeavor. And while I get that everything goes up in price over time, it's getting harder and harder to fill a cup with flies or grab an extra lure for funsies. Once a full $1.50 cheaper than the closest competition for my favorite lure, now they're one of the more expensive by comparison. Still, this is where you're going to go if you want specific fishing gear, and you're still going to geek out--it's still a very useful shop. They have a lot of fly tying materials, but it's all kind of middle of the road. I'm not sure you can really get your high end capes or specialty flash, and certainly your vises are all on the lower end (though they carry that nice entry level Peak) and if you're serious about tying, you're probably going to your local fly shop anyways. But if you need to pick up some UTC or dubbing or marabou, you're probably going to be just fine here. And they do have some Dr. Slick's stuff which is a good thing, though not fancy. Sadly, the backpacking/camping/hiking section has been the greatest casualty over the last several years. Once a competitor to REI, they've taken a very intentional turn from any kind of gear that's even remotely specialized. I suppose they've leaned in a bit more to the heavy duty extra special coolers, but when it comes to backpacking stoves, pads, sleeping bags, packs, and tents... they've really stopped carrying anything but the most entry level, and a very scant selection. Oh, every so often you'll be surprised and find a really nice piece of gear hanging out there, and that's a treasure when you do... but the camping section has shrunk, and once it moved over to the other side, it seemed that they just picked a few easy brands and gave it a couple of aisles. I was in recently and a customer asked one of the team members in disbelief if those few sections of shelving were all the packs they had. Indeed, friend... I feel your pain. What's become clear is that they've gone headlong into the soft goods game. If you're after clothes, then you've got a lot more options here. I'm told that the recent acquisition by Bass Pro has nothing to do with their already planned remodel, so we'll see what the future really holds. But they've just wiped out a lot of floor space and converted it into a big shoe section. The bargain loft is all clothing. Shoes, shoes, and more shoes, clothes for days. Ammo and hunting and all of that has been wacky over the last decade, but I've been able to find ammo here in the non-crazy times. It's never the cheapest, but it's a convenient stop. Optics, storage, and all the accessories--check, check, check. They've also dedicated more space to smokers/pellets/cooking stuff, and it's hit or miss, but you can find a selection of things like cast iron or camp cooking supplies, camp stoves, and others that you might not find elsewhere. The other kitchen items, like processing (grinders, stuffers) have been the casualty there. Here's the bottom line: if you're looking for mostly inexpensive, get-the-job-done-for-a-while gear, but with some exceptions of nice gear, then each section has you covered. If you're looking for clothes, do stop in. Gone is the specialty shop with long seasoned employees and folks who will nerd out. Discount gear and shoes seem to be a new focus. I'm hopeful--truly and really--that the Bass Pro acquisition will be positive. But with Cabela's and Bass Pro already in the portfolio, it remains to be seen what direction Sporstman's will go. I'm keeping my fingers crossed--I've spent hours and hours (and embarrassing amounts of money) here and I'd love to see it shine. read more

What do you get someone that has everything they need in their sporting field? Oh man oh man where do I start? There is walls and walls of product to choose from. Today is Christmas Eve, and the store is busy, but not crowded. While I was walking around trying to find the fishing area, I was impressed how well stocked the store is. If they don't have what you are looking for I would be surprised. With that said, no one offered to help me while I was there. Sure I could have asked someone for help I suppose, but I didn't. Since I have no idea what I was looking for I just picked up a few fishing items, and walked to the checkout line. Check out lines moved fast, and the check out clerk was nice, and friendly. I can't speak to how knowledgeable they are, since I didn't talk to any sales associate before heading to the check out line. The boy scouts were there offering to wrap your gifts. I would have taken them up on their offer, however, what I bought didn't come in a box, and would have made wrapping a nightmare for these young men so I politely declined their offer. read more

Placed an order online. First they tried to give me an open and damaged box optic. Then told me they didn't have any more. I ended up getting one at their other locations. I decided to go a different route and returned the optic a few days later. They never refunded me the money and kept giving me excuses why. I've called the store and customer service multiple times and they gave me the runaround as well. They also never gave me proof that I returned it and kept saying, I would get an email receipt. Good luck if you buy online and try to go pick up your order. They have a standard snotty response of "It's not ready. We have 400 guns that need to be checked in." Thats after I received 2 emails saying its ready for pick up and made an appointment for a reserved time slot. I was told this same thing twice after using up my valuable time and travel. I went to Sportsman's Warehouse in Cedar City today and was going to purchase an outdoor shower system that was listed for 10.99, but when I got to the register the cashier told me it was 34.99. I said no the tag said it was 10.99 and she said "can you show me where it was? " I took her back and showed her tha the tag clearly said 10.99 and there were several more of the same product on the rack. She removed the tag and went went back to the register and she went to another area and left us standing there. When she came back to the register she said, "these are 34.99 and I said well it was clearly a store error and they should honor the 10.99 price. She called the manager and he said, " no, we can't honor the price because we don't know if it was a customer who did it or an employee error. I said the rack above was full and the rack it was on had several more of the same item on it, so it was definitely a store error, and I felt they should honor the price. Tom spent about 15 minutes helping me out, he knew so much and was so helpful. Aside from the good selection, Sportsman's hires employees who know what they're talking about because they are passionate about their hobbies and can do their jobs really well. Ordered a shotgun last night online to pick up today. Got the email pick up was ready so i checked in on their website and wait time said 15 minutes. I waited and walked around for almost an hour waiting for the text that i was next. I saw people walking up to the counter and getting helped so i gave up and just walked up to an employee who helped me right away. Why have a line system if its not gonna be used?!? This is why im giving 1 star. HOWEVER the employee who helped me was nice and very helpful and answered all my questions without an attitude. Another terrible Sportsman's shopping experience! Ordered a rifle on their website. Item showed available at their store for immediate pickup. Went to the store to pickup my rifle and no rifle to be found. So, I gave it until Thursday, the following week as I was told that it should arrive in their Tuesday Shipment. Show up on Thursday to pickup the rifle and no rifle. Not only that, my order now showed that the rifle portion of my order was canceled (not by me mind you). Furthermore, they couldn't locate my order. Don't get me wrong, I love Sportsman's but I'll willingly spend more money at a company that has their shit together. PS. Your website needs a major overhaul! On a good note, the gentleman that helped me at the gun counter was a consummate professional! Thank You for that at least. read more

I purchased a canopy from Sportsman's Warehouse prior to my July 4th (tent) Camping trip. Within 24 hours the canopy broke and we were without shade for the rest of the trip. After my trip, I went back to the store. All I was hoping to do was to exchange the product and pay the difference for a higher quality canopy. They refused to do a return, exchange, or other. Unfortunately they do not stand behind their mission statement: "We provide outstanding gear and exceptional service to inspire outdoor memories.". The gear they sold was of terrible quality. The service was unwilling to help. The outdoor memories are 100 degree heat with no shade. Very disappointing. I will be taking my business elsewhere in the future. read more

I made an order with Sportsman's online. They were running a promotion that said $20 off when you spend $100. So I put a couple extra items in my cart to get the $20 off my total. My receipt was emailed to me and showed the individual price for each item and then a $20 discount off my total. They said they had all the items in stock, but I guess that wasn't true because I received an email a couple days later saying one of the items was being cancelled. My receipt shows I paid $29.98 for (plus tax) for that item. I had paid with a gift card so when I called them, they said they were only refunding me $26 because that was the price of the item after the promotional credit. Now I know it is only $4-$5, but after speaking with numerous "Customer Service" representatives (I use the word "Service" as a word not an action) they informed me that part of my "free" $20 off was being voided out because they applied it to each individual item. I have seen this done before with Dick's and other retailers, but on your receipt it itemizes each item with the discount applied. Not Sportsman's, yet they still took back their promotion money after THEY cancelled my items that THEY said was in stock when I ordered. Again it is only $4-$5, but that is what disturbs me most.....I asked them if they would choose to lose a customer forever, risk bad reviews like this one and have me bad mouth them for as long as I am here on the planet all for $4-$5 and they said sorry, there is nothing we can do. Purchased a gun on the 4th of July, was posted on their add, not in stock?? OK waited until the 24th for the gun, no too bad. Gun was difective took it back on the 26th, wow still waiting. Over a month, Ok understand, but when I call to check they won't check or offer to look into it. All I get is "you will be notified". I have been a service manager for 40 years and I have never answered a customer in such a way. Do I feel like a valued customer? No! So I check with the manufacturer, gave them the S/N and they have no record of the gun coming to them. Asked if they where backed logged and they informed me that new gun warranties are handled usually with a replacement, said the longest turn around is no more than 5 business days. I should have just dealt with them on the warranty, now I don't even know if Sportman's has even shipped the gun and I can not get any answers. They may be OK for other stuff but I do not recommend a firearm purchase. read more

A lesson in what not to do... I saw a pair of shoes online that appeared to be in stock in the store and decided to drive across town to buy them. I found them in the store and took them up to the register to purchase. They were not ringing up on sale like they showed on the website so the cashier called over a manager. The manager refused to discount the shoes for me and insisted that the sale was online only despite nothing being indicated on their website. I pointed out that if I ordered them online right then, I could literally pick them up tomorrow in the store for the discounted price. She agreed that this was true but still refused to sell them at the discounted price, instead insisting that I had to purchase them online and then drive back across town tomorrow to get them. I ordered online for pick - up same day the item was in stock, I went to pick it up they said if you didn't get an email it's not ready, this was 20 minutes before they closed I needed the item for an event the next morning, I told them I needed the item I can see you have one on the shelf I just wanted to get it and go but the clerk did not how to make that happen and was nice but just said they could not do that, I started asking questions like why not? can you just return it and sell me this one and a manager came over started talking down to me saying they can't do nothing without the email saying it's ready he wouldn't let me talk treated me like trash so I left pissed off. The next day I called Sportsman's they said oh sorry about that we will need to send one from our warehouse the transfer is on Sunday it will be there Monday it was Saturday the day of my event so I just bought another one at Al's Sporting goods who had a bunch in stock for $10 cheaper. Tuesday I have still received no email so I called they said it will ship from the warehouse on Sunday I said that is another week I could get it on Amazon in 2 days $20.00 cheaper the girl did not care she said that's the best they could do. So I was treated like crap everyone including them had it in stock they had my $270.00 and did not want to help me at all. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS DEAD! Having not used my three hunting rifles in several decades, and facing a cross-country retirement move (national movers don't like to handle firearms...), I decided to sell the rifles and was looking for a place to arrange a convenient sale at a fair price. I am very happy to have found Evan and his team in the Hunting Department at Sportsman's Warehouse in Midvale (Salt Lake City), Utah. They were courteous and competent throughout the process and, after conducting a thorough online search for comparable prices, offered me what I considered a fair cash price for the three rifles, all of which were manufactured pre-1980. Sportsman's Warehouse being a reputable reseeller with an impeccable FFL record also gave me peace of mind for the transaction, as compared with doing a private sale. And the icing on the cake was that I got a voice message from Evan the day after the sale, saying that he had some good news for me. As it turned out, in reviewing the sale, Evan's corporate supervisors found that they had underpriced two of the rifles and I returned to Midvale the same day to pick up several hundred dollars more. I always end up walking over to check out the clearance section and find some good deals. Same for when they markdown their shoes. The customer service here is great. Everyone is so helpful and knowledgeable. I was lucky enough to come in when buying my first hand gun, and having a woman at the counter to help me and give me another of tips and information about being a woman and having a concealed weapon. She suggested alot of places to buy pants and items for a concealed weapon also. She said not to use the purses. If someone is robbing you and they grab your ourseand run, then they have your gun. Totally made sense. And that it was harder to get out then if it was on your body. read more

Scam charge on my credit card and their accounts payable department initially could not provide any information or transaction receipt. Disputed with my credit card company and it was handled promptly. Later in the day, I actually heard back from the appropriate billing service agent returning my voicemail message. She said what, when and approximately where it shipped, same post code and phone number, email with my first name, but different ship to name and not my address. Item was a $278 fishing rod delivered 2 days later. I let her know I have only ever bought kids bb8 / Spiderman clearance rods at Walmart for $5. As this suspicious activity occurred 10/9/17 by someone nearby with an online retailer, remember to check all of your transactions often. It was good that we called and disputed. Unfortunately, all I have is the person's Korean name and 32819 postcode, which I will pass along to the Credit Card fraud team who can probably confirm more details to catch the suspect. read more

Bought a life proof case for my IPhone, I had it on my phone for two days and didn't like it, took it back only to be refused a refund. I used to be a huge fan of Sportsman's Warehouse, so much so that I would ask for gift cards for birthday and Christmas. Not any more. Recently went here for a jacket and some new boots. I was armed with about $175 in gift cards and ready to buy. I started looking for jackets and found a few pretty nice ones that were in my price range but only found sizes in small and medium...seriously? I looked around more and found another sharp looking jacket in my size. I was ready to go ahead with my selection until I saw the price tag and about loaded my pants. This jacket was nearly $300 !! No jacket today I guess. Next I went to get a new pair of hiking boots. Same story as above. Anything that was in my price range was sold out in my size. Anything else that looked good was well over 150 bucks. No boots today either. I left with my gift cards. I wasn't going to give them money on something I didn't want to buy or a higher priced item because they were out of stock. This isn't the first time I have come here to find unavailable or out of stock items. Also, what has happened to the prices and customer service here? This place used to be all about the customer and had reasonable prices. Now it seems like asking for help from an employee is a hassle and prices are on par with some of the high dollar yuppie places. read more

First time here as I'm new to the area from another state. I am looking to do more fishing than I have in the past, and different kinds of fishing. Also looking to get into hunting, which I haven't done before. So, I'm going to need a lot of gear! First problem, they blocked off half of the handicap parking (which is illegal) for some special promotion about some outdoor movie. This made the parking lot near the doors more crowded and I was forced to park further away and trudge into the store on my bad knees. Strike 1 and I haven't even entered the store yet. Then I walked around to the fishing department. I had some trouble finding what I was looking for so I went looking for an employee to help. Saw a couple walking around, but they went right past me. I wandered the fishing area for 15 minutes, even standing in the main aisle "looking lost" for 5 minutes. I could see three employees in the back room talking, but I wasn't about to walk back there where I didn't think I was supposed to be. Strike 2! I'm beginning to wonder if anybody actually works here to help customers or if they just walk a lap around the store then hide in the back. Finally, I spotted two employees standing and talking to EACH OTHER and after being ignored, i finally walked up to them and asked for help. I got the "It's not my section" answer. So I asked, "Well, do you think you can go get someone who works in this section to help me?" A few minutes later someone came over, and the end result is that they didn't have what I was looking for. Finally, I'm leaving and the only person who was actually helpful and polite was the cashier. As I'm leaving I see an employee in a polo shirt talking on the phone at the customer service desk. He looked like he was the manager on duty, so I stood there for a minute waiting for him to get off of the phone. He looked at me and we even MADE EYE CONTACT. I would assume that he would realize that I am waiting to talk to him. Nope. As soon as he hung up that phone he lit off into the back so fast I could swear he outran his shadow. Never once was I acknowledged. Strike 3!!!! This was my first time in this store, and will probably be my last. I would rather spend my money at WalMart, Big 5, Scheels, or a host of other places if this is the way they treat their customers. read more

By stuff I mean everything a weekender adventurer, backwoods hunter, or fisherman could want. If you like to hunt you'll find everything you need here from the orange vests to the Remington rifle. For fisherman they have poles and lures, waders and boats. For the casual weekender adventurer Sportsman's has your pack and boots, good pocket knives and flashlights.
